Nour Mouakke, founder of meetings and events booking platform Wizme, moved from Syria to the UK in 2009 to study marketing in Durham. But when war broke out in Syria in 2011, it changed everything. Mouakke, who has not seen his family in Syria in more than 12 years, applied for refugee status in 2014 so he could set up his own business.
"I see Wizme as a platform for my personal philanthropy goals," he says. "Coming from a warzone and not having seen my family for 12 years I just want to be able to support communities and work with people."
