Welcome into the lounge presented by DraftKings. I'm Ryan Ink here with Garrett Downing, and we are in full swing free agency mode. The moves are coming fast and furious, and for the Ravens, they're big fish that they landed wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. It's now official that the Ravens have agreed to terms with the veteran proval wide receiver. Eric DaCosta put out a statement about that earlier today, saying, we are happy to bring DeAndre Hopkins to the Ravens. D hop is a player whom we have competed against and admired for a long time. He fits our style of play and is another weapon for our offense. We're excited to watch him play and congratulate DeAndre and his family.
So officially official.
Yeah, it's great to have that. We surely talked through the benefits and what we think of adding DeAndre Hopkins, and just to reiterate that, as I thought about it a little bit more over the past twenty four hours, I think that this is a move that it makes sense for what the Ravens are looking for to add to the team. And when I look around the league and see some of the deals that have been given out to other wide receivers, none of whom have DeAndre Hopkins resume. I think that it may I feel even better about it. You just look at some of these deals, like DeMarcus Robinson, for example, got a two year, ten million dollar contract he was here, of course a few years ago. Mike Williams goes to the Chargers. He goes back to the Chargers on basically the same reported deal what DeAndre Hopkins got, And so like, I just when I look at the deals that other receivers are getting and the quality of the player that DeAndre Hopkins is, both in terms of what he's done in his career and what I still think he has left in the tank, I think the Ravens are getting a proven player who still can be an impact difference maker for this offense, and at a really good price. And so like, I just feel really good about this, this contract and what the Ravens are able to add to this team.
Yeah, he compared it to the Derreck Henry move of last year to a degree, yes, And I know that was the comparison you made. What do you think of this comparison? And again there's differences right, like where they were at in their career and whatnot. What about an Kwon Bolton, Okay.
You just want to get that Super Bowl. You're just trying to You're trying to talk to you stuff into the Super.
Well, what I'm saying is like what he brings to the offense, Like an Quon was not a burner when he came here, you know, was never a burn He was never a burner, right, but he was a guy who gave Joe Flacco that reliable, trusted weapon, contested catches like auld go up and make a play for you when you needed it.
And he was to a degree what put them over the hump.
And uh, like I think in terms of what DeAndre Hopkins offers. And then you know the Ravens. Obviously that Super Bowl team had Tory Smith, they had the Burner, right, and like they had other weapons that complimented and Kwan. And I think this time it's DeAndre compliments the raven his weapons that they already had kind of reverse it. But like you know, in terms of what he can be for this offense, I see some similarities there.
I think it's when I brought up the Derrick Henry comparison. You made the point, like the big difference is that Derek Henry was brought here to be the workhorse and.
He their role in their.
Role in the offense is different. I kind of feel the same way in comparing Hopkins and Bolden. Bolden was brought here as the number one wide receiver and that's what he was during his time here. The Ravens added Tory Smith in the second round of twenty eleven, and he was a really important player in eleven and twelve when they were together. So Tory had a huge role obviously in the offense during that Super Bowl run. But yeah, you're right, An Kwan was like he was the go to guy and so.
That's what Shane Moover he contested catch, tough catch, clutch play.
I think like from a from a type of receiver standpoint, like they what they are, body type, track play.
The game, the physicality they play with, like the alpha mentality, all that kind of stuff.
Yeah, I think all that is says yes, like there's a lot of similarities there between them as players. I think role was going to be much different, and like what I he's brought in here, just I think that there can be games. There probably will be games this year where DeAndre Hopkins leads a team at receiving like that. I think that will probably happen for some games this year. Even though the Ravens have to say flowers for sab Baitman and really good tight ends, like it would not shock me if there's a game we're also in DeAndre Hopkins. This is a guy that has six FO one hundred and a touch would not surprise me at all. But he's not coming here with the expectation that he needs to do that week after week because you have these other weapons, and so I think that will help him. I think that will help him as a player who's in the latter stations, is up his career, stay fresh, be really impactful when he's on the field. I just think it will. Like this fit is good for him in terms of where he is, and it's also really a good fit for the Ravens in terms of what they need as a guy, Like when it's third and eight and you need somebody to move the chains. Hopkins is a player who can work those boundaries and has proven over the course of his career he can do that.
So in the middle of the field, it's not just the boundaries. He's so good, he can work so good on that. Yeah, the back shoulder, like watching the film from last year, he definitely the physicality that he plays with and the obviously the feel he has for the game. I think it could unlock more back shoulder throws to him. But I think he's just going to work the shorts of intermediate part of the field and he'll hit some he'll hit some big plays too, but where he's going to really make his hay is short and intermediate and making tough catches over the middle, contested catches, all that stuff.
Yeah, So I think that's it's big. It's big. We are we are on board certainly that one.
How about this one last question on this topic for you. So you know, we talked in the last episode when we were reacting to his signing about the tweet that he put out five years ago with he Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry at NFL Honors after the twenty nineteen season, in which he asked the question, how many touchdowns with this trio score? Right? What do you got? Well?
Prediction time, big boy?
Are we are we counting my touchdowns?
Is this?
He said?
Score, right, and if Lamar throws one to DeAndre Hopkins, is that two? I think that counts for one, right, That's what I'm that's all right. So how many touchdowns Dereck Henry had what fifteen last year.
Or something like sixteen touchdowns? Sixteen last year? Lamar? I think probably in the rain that's.
Really good, right, So well, let's just say, right, it's Lamar rushing, Derrick Henry rushing and receiving total touchdowns, and then Hopkins receiving. Okay, so I'm gonna go I'm gonna go four rushing, three rushing touchdowns for Lamar. I'm gonna go thirteen rushing touchdowns for Derrick Henry. So we're up to sixteen and I'm gonna go seven for d hop Yeah.
I think it's I think it's in that twenty to twenty five range. I probably would go I'll go twenty four just to one. You would one, more more confident, more optimistic. So yeah, I think it's gonna be in that twenty to twenty five range. The numbers that Derek put up last year were amazing, amazing, So it's like hard to just be like, all right, go ahead and get sixteen touchdowns in nineteen hundred yards again, but I still think he's going to be super productive. So yeah, I think it's in that range. Like the Ravens are going to have. They've got a lot of people to get the ball to on offense, with Hopkins, with Bateman, with Flowers, with Henry Lamar Mark Andrews, Isaiah likely even Charlie Kohler you came on last year, like Wallace, who we're gonna get to here in the conversation around this offense. They brought him back. So like, there's a lot of mouths of feet on the offense, and like we talked about with Todd Monkin recently, that's a good problem to have as an offensive coordinator and he's gonna find ways to get all those guys involved.
Yep. So the other big news from yesterday was Michael Pierce announcing his retirement after nine seasons, seven of which here in Baltimore where he got to start, started and ended in Baltimore. And you know, obviously a player that is has been very highly respected here for a long time. Great guy, great player, I mean, going from an undrafted player out of Samford and becoming one of the top nose tackles in the game.
That's quite a story.
Yeah, and then on top of it, the cherry on top is the way that he ended his career.
His last regular season snap was an interception.
So just an amazing, lifelong memory that he'll go out with and pretty cool. Also, is his first play that really put him on the scene and potentially is what sealed his roster spot as an on draft rookie, was a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Yeah, it's big, big play, Mike, you know, from the nose tackle. So just a great, a great, great career, and now on the flip side, leaves the Ravens with kind of a hole to fill on their defensive line.
Yeah. Just in terms of Michael Pierce, He's a playout that I've really liked for a long time. We've had him on the podcast on a number of occasions, well respected in the locker room, and just I think a good guy. I think somebody that you can cheer for. His story as a player who was not a big time recruit coming out of high school and was not somebody that we were talking about going into the twenty sixteen draft of the raven was going to get Michael Pierce out of Stanford like that was not he just was not somebody with the position that he played, his backstory was not somebody who had all these accolades. But he just worked and worked and worked and proved himself overcame some stuff and I really liked him, and he ended up having a really nice career, and I think that's he bookends it in Baltimore, went to the Vikings there for a little bit, but always felt like a guy who was just meant to be a raven felt at home here. And I even go back to when he signed that contract to come back here, and we talked to him on the day that he signed, and this was so unique, but he made the point like, yeah, this is gonna be my last contract on the day that he was that he signed.
He's he's a man who has a lot of other interests, you know, just life interests, like wants to go out and travel and live life. And you know, I feel like he felt like, hey, I had a good career, like I'm still playing, well, I'm healthy. It's time to go out, you know, it's time to end it. And Brent Urban is also a free agent, like the fun bunch. You know, maybe it was just time, you know what I mean, Brent Rban I hope, hey, I hope he comes back, you know, but uh, I think Michael Pierce felt like, all right, it's time to move on to some of my other interests.
Yeah.
Yeah, I just always remember that conversation with him on the day he signed that. He was just so open about it. He was like, yeah, it's probably going to play these two years and that's probably gonna be it. You're like, wow, okay, that's interesting. Well he ended up playing three.
I think he played a little bit longer than maybe he anticipated at that time.
Yeah, I know, it just it just was He's just an interesting guy from from a perspective standpoint. Yeah, we're gonna need to find it's the what Ravens wired is gonna be different next year that Michael seears and Brander was sitting on the bench providing commentary throughout the game. So I'm gonna miss that in a big way.
It's very true.
And now for the Ravens, you know, they have a hole to fill on the defensive line. Now Travis Jones had taken the Lion's share of those reps. Michael MP's snaps decreased from the year prior, and Travis Jones increased his slice the pie, And so I anticipate Travis Jones to continue to play a very large role, if not bigger, on this defensive line. But it does underscore the work that the Ravens have to do on this defensive line. And later on is this episode, we're going to talk about some of those holes they still need to fill in, the work still ahead for Eric to Costa in the scouting department. So Tylan Wallace also brought back for the Ravens and a reported one year deal for Tiland And this one is not a surprise, you know. I think when we were trying to project what would happen in free agency, he was somebody that we circled and said, just makes a lot of sense. You know, had a very good year, caught eleven to twelve passes that came his way, continued to play a key role on special teams, not only as a returner. You know, he was a punt returner there, and he didn't end up being their final punt returner. They kind of it was a revolving door at the end of the season, but certainly has that experience and offers more on special teams other than just being a returner, and also a dependable depth wide receiver somebody that like hey, like I said, guy only didn't catch one ball that came his way. And so that's really what you want from your you know, depth wide receivers three through four whatever, number three, number four, number five wide receiver, whatever it is. Yeah, that's what you want. And like I think he'll he steps into as it stands now, the number four spot really behind DeAndre Hopkins.
Like Colin Wall has had plenty of big catches over his career.
Here, big play Thailand, man, he had the punt return for the punt returns are iconic, Like that's well the one, the one they ultimate run.
Just put him. I've said it before, but if you could play all every game in the all purple uniforms, Thailand would just go off. I mean, this guy would be a Hall of Fame receiver, hall of Fame player.
But just let him run down that left sideline, down every sideline. I want every play going to him on the sideline.
When we're in the Purple Rising uniforms, Like Monkin's just got to be like Okay, I just got to get him a screen along that sidelines and good things are freedom gonna happen, feed them. So I really liked Thailand. He's a guy. I like his perspective too, like we're talking about Michael Pierson his perspective. I go back a couple of years ago and Thailand talked about just waiting in his car on roster cut down day to be like, all right, let's see if they call me, and I got to go in there and get cut Like he didn't know. He was just waiting in the parking lot to see what the word was. And then his phone didn't rang at four o'clock and he was like, I guess I made the team.
All right, cool, go home.
Now go home and order some Chinese food.
Yeah it's yeah. So like he he's a pretty, like I guess, honest guy and in terms of looking at him himself, and I just thought that was always an interesting story. And so but he's had like big plays and like the Ravens when you look at some of the games from the past year, like he was making catches late in these games, like even the Buffalo game. He's like, make him plays. And so I think that Thailand is a is a good player to bring back. It's not a break the bank signing and you hit it. He can he can give you production from a special team standpoint and in spot duty on offense. So you need important players like that. I think that it's a good move to bring him back.
The Ravens wide receiver room is pretty filled out now at this point. I mean with Devontes Walker there, you have really your top five wide receivers are.
Penciled in, and then really for.
A sixth spot, I expect that to be probably a returner. Yeah, and you have other players that are going to compete with that, you know, players that sign future reserve cont and whatnot.
You know, Anthony Miller is part of that group.
So I think that Dayton Wade, you know, an undrafted rookie from a year ago. And so it'll it'll be interesting when you look at the draft needs wide receiver now is you know, I mean Hops on a reported one year deal. Thailand's on a reported one year deal, so you still have kind of long term potential there. But it's interesting they don't have a very big need at wide receiver going forward.
Now it will be interesting from a draft standpoint, if the Ravens try to add a receiver who could also help on the return game, or if they're exact added as Thailand as a returner, yeah, I.
Would think that they would still want to add somebody with that could be able to punt.
Return compete and Tyler could end up winning the job.
Yeah, I think that he'll be in that mix. Yeah he'll compete for that.
But I don't think that the Thailand re signing is like, oh, yeah, he's going to be our punt.
Return Yeah, he'll being Yeah. And it goes back to what we've said big picture wise, you want to fill as many holes as possible before you get into the draft. So if the Ravens are looking at the draft board and they're saying like, we don't really see anybody with return experience a receiver who we want to take, Okay, well you still have Thailand and so like that's a good place to start. You don't have to force it. But if there's somebody like I still think that they're going to draft a receiver with the eleven picks, and if you can get somebody who plays receiver who has that return experience, I think that that would definitely be something the Ravens are interested in, just has to, but they're not going to force It's my point.
Well, we're talking about special teams and another move that the Ravens made was to add a special teams ace and linebacker and Jake Hummel. So he's one of their this is still reported, but one of their two outside free agent signings. And so you know this edition again going to special teams. The Ravens lost Chris Board, they lost Malie Harrison to score special teams players, and as we said on our podcast, you want you want to get better on special teams and losing two of your better players there doesn't help, right, And so I think that that did kind of underscore the importance of keeping Tyler Wallace and of adding j Hummel, who was really a great special teams player for the Rams. Had a block punt that got returned for a touchdown. And this was a guy who when he was coming out of the draft was like an athletic tested off the charts, I mean, one of the top inside linebacker testers in recent years, and so very athletic player, good depth player defensively, you know, did not play very many defensive snaps fewer than Malie Harrison and Chris Board. You know, did not have as big a role as those guys did on defenses, you know, when he was with the Rams. But who knows. We'll see here in Baltimore, because there's certainly an opening because the Ravens didney more depth a in some linebackers. So I think another good move that shores up the special teams.
Units played at Iowa State teammates and buddies with Charlie Kolar.
Yep, he gave it the thumbs up.
Charlie about that. Found some old pictures of them together in college, so he'll be excited about that. And I think the Ravens, I don't know if how aggressively they tried to keep Malie Harrison and Chris Board unclear, but I do think that the Ravens special teams unit last year did not play as well as we've seen as we've been accustomed to, like special teams units here have been have been great. That's just the standard of special teams play here, and last year struggled a little bit. And so I don't know if the Ravens went into this offseason thinking about ways to remake their special team's room and add quality pieces, and Jay Humble falls into that category. Now maybe they also tried to keep both Board and Harrison. I'm not sure, but I think that when those guys left, you have an opportunity to try to remake your special teams group a little bit and you want to improve and Humbles a guy who I think will help in that area.
Yeah, you know we're into comparing signings to previous signings.
Is this the Brendan I am Badajo?
Oh, you're going back away there. The Ravens have had a number of guys that like are in that that special teams a some of that thats Brendan and Ijo they I mean, Chris Board was that last year, Like that was the signing last year. Now he had been here previously. But there's been a number of players, some of them most of them have been home grown. But like the Ravens always, you go back through the years, like there's almost always somebody who's in that special team's ace category. It was Anthony the Levigne for a long time, was Albert McClellan, Brendan I am Medesia. Going back, Chris Moore was a really good special teamer, Tylon Wallace, as we talked.
About, he's kind of the Chris Moore. Tyland Wallace is kind of the Chris Moore. Yeah, they're all the same position, wide receiver. Yeah, yep.
So like they've got a good track record of having one or two really good special teams players, and I think Humble will be another guy who's in that mix.
Yeah. Yeah, So I think a very solid signing for the Ravens. And then uh, news on the safety front. So the Ravens offered our dairy Washington a tender, and certainly no surprise there. We all knew that he was going to get tendered. It was just at what level. He's a restricted free agent exactly, and so's what level of tender are they were they going to put on him. The Ravens gave him a right of first refusal tender, which means he'd be offered a one year, three point two six three million dollar contract according to over the Cap. The other option would have been a second round tender, which would have come at basically two million dollars more a little over two two point one. So you know, the Ravens basically what this boils down to, and and just to explain these tenders to fans. So, once signed, then the player is locked into that one year deal. But until they sign that they have there's a period of time I can't remember how long. It is a month or so in which the player can and their agent can negotiate with other teams to basically as as if they were unrestricted and they can negotiate any deal. And so if another team offers Art Areas Washington a contract, then the Ravens have the opportunity to match that contract or not. If they choose not to match that offer, then art Areas would leave and the Ravens would get nothing in return. If the Ravens would put a second round tender on them and Ard Areas worked out a contract for more money with another team and left, then the Ravens would have gotten a second round pick in return. So basically, the Ravens are saying, we don't think that that Art Areas would get a contract on the open market, a contract offer of more than whatever five point three four to six, which would have been the second round tender. Like they think that his they estimate his value. This is all about trying to assess the market, right, That's what the Ravens are doing here and they feel like the market is somewhere between that three point two and five point.
Three right basically, and they still have again the ability to match the offer, so if he gets a contract offer from another team, exactly to match it. It's similar to a couple of years ago. This was a big conversation related to Lamar Jackson and the Ravens put the non exclusive franchise tag on him, which gave him the ability to match an offer from another team.
Same thing, and basically teams like see that and they're like, they're just gonna match it.
Yeah, They're just gonna match it.
Like I am very very confident that Ardarius Washington's gonna be playing in Baltimore this year.
Yeah, And the Ravens have done this with other restricted free agents in the past, and so I think that our Darius, I'm with you. I think he's gonna be playing here next year and going to be really important, a really important piece of this defense. The other news on the safety front is the Ravens did release Marcus Williams. This was a move that we all kind of knew was coming, and the Ravens talked after the season about that. This was the direction that they were likely they were going. So Marcus gets another chance. We'll get another chance to catch on with another team. Obviously, last year did not go the way that he of the Ravens wanted. You know, his career Baltimore started off red hot after he got that contract and he was on fire. He dealt with some injury game.
He had two picks in his first game day.
I think four picks in his first three games. I guess guy fine crazy coming out of the gates. And then then injuries happened and they struggled to stay on the field, and then last year just just struggled. So hopefully he get catches on somewhere else and plays good football. But that's the end of his time. Spent three years here with the Ravens.
Yep, we'll take a break. When we come back, we're going to talk about the work still left to be done for Eric ta Cosa in this front office, as well as.
The Steelers are.
They've been active, they've been spending some money, so we'll talk about the Ravens, AFC and North rival as well.
You're listening to the last podcast. We're coming to you from the Sea Geek Studio. We also want to mention our partners with Draft King Sportsbook. They are an official sports betting partner of the Baltimore Ravens Draft King Sportsbook. The Crown is yours. So as always, there's a lot of stuff happening around the NFL and the Steelers have been a busy team in free agency and as of this recording Thursday at eleven am, they have not brought in a quarterback yet, but there's reports that they could bring in Air Rodgers. Russell Wilson is still out there. Russell Wilson has probably taken a visit to the Cleveland Browns, so not sure where Wilson's gonna end up. But they're still looking Giants and the Giants, so there's there's uncertainty about what the Steelers are going to do at quarterback. But they have brought in DK Metcalf, They have brought in Darius Slay, so they've added some big name veteran players to their team and that their roster has kind of been shaken up a little bit.
Yeah, they also signed running back Kenneth Gainwell, who was a backup last year in Philadelphia.
They've lost a bunch of players also, brought in, of course, Milike Harrison to a two year contract to put next to Patrick Queens.
So it's that's a sizable move for them. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So lost They've lost Dan Moore, one of their offense tackles, quarterback Justin Fields, guard James Daniels, corner cornerback Dante Jackson. Now he's replaced by Darius Slay. They lost defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, wide receiver Mike Williams who played half the year for them, Nogie Harris who was their lead running back, Landon Roberts the linebacker. Basically he got replaced by Malie Harrison and Van Jefferson a backup wide receiver, so very active for the Steelers. And you know, I think the big obviously the big ticket item here is did they land Aaron Rodgers quarterback, because if they don't land Aaron Rodgers, it is an interesting quarterback field for them, like and and Russell Wilson. I mean, really, what would be quite entertaining would be if Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson both go somewhere. Russell Wilson signs with the Browns or something like that, and Aaron Rodgers goes in the New York Giants and the Steelers are left in this game of musical chairs with nowhere left to sit, no chair, so that that would be quite interesting. But they could we're all on Aaron Rodgers watch basically, yeah.
They could look to the drafts certainly, yep, and they.
I mean, could they take a shot to Shanor Sanders like a lot of you know, he draft stock where he's gonna get draft that seems to be all over the place. Could he fall far enough for the Steelers to get in the first round? That'd be interesting.
That's the tricky part. I mean, should Or Sanders you have seen him. There's there's stuff of him going to and then and then there's stuff of him going at the end of the first round exactly. Not that I'm the draft board expert here, but it was surprised me if he last at the end of the first round, as we're sitting here, that would surprise me.
So Steelers aren't drafting all the way at the end of the first round, but.
They're not all the way at the end. But but there.
You're saying it would surprise you if he got to the Steelers.
Surprised me if he got to the Steelers, Yes, that would surprise me. Now they could go up, of course I agree with that, But like they they look, they drafted a first round quarterback a few years ago and Kenny Pickett didn't work out, but he was somebody that was there in that spot like the Steelers are.
It's kind of the same a similar quarterback class. People are saying. I mean, there's cam Ward who probably will go pretty high, but people are like that Kenny Pickett class was not a very good quarterback class and they were able to get the air quotes top quarterback, you know that class at the time, or what people consider to be the top quarterback. Could this be a similar kind of thing for them. Potentially they could.
Take a shot. It would not surprise me, I think honestly either way if they end up with bringing back Russell Wilson or bringing in Aaron Rodgers.
Like, they can still take a shot exactly.
Did not think that precludes them from taking a first round quarterback. So that'll be their situation is certainly interesting, and then just kind of rounding out the rest of the division. As we talked about, Russell Wilson is still in the mix for of the Browns, So we'll see if he ends up going to Cleveland, he could end up in one of those two teams and the and the Bengals are very much kind of in a holding pattern here on like their big time free agents, There's been no movement on that front. Te Higgins is still they put the franchise tag on him, no movement on a new contract for Jamar Chase, Trey Hendrickson asked for the trade, and no movement on a trade or a new contract for him. So we're all just kind of like and wait and see mode on those those big three for the Bengals, who are all in some sort of contract limbo.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, and Trey Hendrickson was, you know, granted permission to seek a trade, but apparently the reports are that the Bengals are asking for way too much. Yeah, and so yeah, I mean, it's an interesting offseason for them. They basically have to just shell out a bunch of big time deals or or not, and those players are not going to be very happy about it if they don't. Yeah, So it's interesting. Now moving on to the Ravens and the rest of the work that they have to do, you know, we did. This isn't at the top of the list, but we just got done talking about quarterback situation. The Ravens do need a backup quarterback. I mean they have Devin Leary, who served as their number three last year. I would certainly expect that the Ravens are going to bring in more competition than I would expect a veteran and so who could that be?
Well about Josh Johnson, He's so available.
Certainly, Yeah, I mean they could bring back Josh Johnson, and you and I both talked about that. Seems like a good option, a fairly likely option for them. Uh. Some other backup quarterbacks on the market right now would be Gardner, Minshew, Jamis Winston, have this name, Joe Flacco, Trail that name, Trey Lance, Snoop, Drew Locke, Taylor Heineke. Those are some of the other names that are out there right now. Snoop would be that'd be interesting.
Yeah, obviously a history there.
And so I still feel like my gut tells me the most likely route is a reunion with Josh Johnson. But it remains me seen that as an item on the to do list.
It is interesting we look at some of these quarter backup quarterbacks get paid, like Marcus marriot To just signed an eight million dollar contract.
Going to spend that amount of money on a backup.
Quarterback, they're not, But it's just some of these guys get paid. And so I think it's assuming Josh Johnson wants to keep playing, I could still see a reunion there to Huntley is another interesting one, just considering the history. So both those guys, they've got history here, so like they seem like they could it could be a logical fit if they wanted to come here, and that's the direction the Ravens wanted to go. But yeah, the Ravens need to add there the other spots too, Like I think inside linebacker has become a need with the departure of Malie Harris.
And I think with adding Humble it's I wouldn't probably not expect another veteran inside linebacker signing. I mean, they're certainly going to draft one at some point, but I don't know that I see another veteran signing maybe later in this off season, potentially for depth and competition.
Yep, cornerback I think is always in the mix, and.
Just going back to inside linebacker, they could also bring back.
Christian Welch Huh, Yep, totally. And as we've talked about previously, both of us still think that Trent Simpson could end up being a good player for this team, and probably when that starting job next to Roque and then cornerback, I could I could see an addition at cornerback, whether that's a veteran from another team or bringing back someone like Tredavious White who is currently still out there on the market.
Yeah, I agree.
I think that cornerback is definitely a a big need. And yeah, I think that it's going to be a veteran and it's going to be a highest draft pick there.
You need, you need a lot of cornerbacks.
You can never have too many, So that's probably cornerback and safety are at the top of the list, I would say for the Ravens right now. I mean safety you really have well, I mean you do have. You have SNUSI and bow braids, so you have four under contract, assuming as we said, that Ourt areas Washington stays, which we very much anticipate will be the case.
So I'd probably.
Say corner is the top need in terms of filling holes. And we've spent a lot of time talking about outside linebackers, and you know, the desire to get some more juice at that position, but you have all of your outside linebackers turning and so there's not a hole to fill there. There's just like you want to upgrade, you want to add some more.
But I feel like that's a draft approach.
I feel like that's a draft approach.
I feel like, you know, could there be a veteran that's like still hanging out there on the market. I mean, how they got Jadeveon Clowney in August a couple of years ago, they got Kyle van Noy midway through the season. You know, like sometimes there just seems to be these veteran pass rushers that hang around. But I don't think that there's a move anytime soon on that front. You know, like maybe somebody shakes loose after the draft that could be of interest something like that. But with such a rich pass rusher draft class, I think that that's the more likely route address addressing it there. Like, if there's one position where you see the Ravens still spending let's say decent money, what would that.
Problem corner corner?
That would be the one as it stands right now, corner would be the spot that I can see, but like over safety, Yeah, I think that I could see it. Yes, I could see corner over safety as we sit here right now, and I think they will still out of safety. Draft could be a way to get that done. They try to go the free agent route at safety. Last year they could go that route again.
They said, signed Eddie Jackson. That was a little bit later later in the free.
And he wasn't like a big time break the bank guy, but was They did go the veteran route last year, so I could see that happening in the draft. And they've had some success at plucking some really good corners at good value and who are on the market for one reason or another, like tradevious White well he was a trade or Ronald Darby a couple of years ago. So like, could there be a guy in that category that they could find and bring in? I think that they still could.
Yeah, I agree with that.
So still more.
