Galway-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gráinne Cotter popped into Gavin Glass in the Nova.ie 'Locals Only' studio last week. She chats to Gavin about her life and music and plays us a few tunes!

Described as sounding like somewhere between The Jesus And Mary Chain and Ride  - it's no wonder Sun Mahshene are creating a stir. The band started as a bedroom band in 2014 and are a fantastic guitar-driven indie music band. They dropped into Gavin Glass in the Locals Only Studio to talk about themselves and their music. 

Daniel John Paxton is no stranger to success. As a key member of some of Ireland's most successful bands (Sweet Jane / Buffalo Sunn / The Brothers Movement), he has opened for The Jesus and Mary Chain at The Roundhouse, supported The Lemonheads and Michael Nau and toured the UK with The Besnard Lakes - which led to Jace Lacek of The Besnard Lakes mixing Railway Line. He joins Gavin Glass this week on the Locals Only Podcast, where he plays us some music from his first solo album. 

David Anthony McGeown of the excellent Bodies pops into the Locals Only Studio. David has his arm in a sling and has a fractured elbow. He's releasing a double A Side this week, featuring his new song 'Slave'. 

Bass player, educator, record producer, session player Robbie Malone pops into Gavin Glass in the Locals Only Studio and talks about the revival of Irish rock back LiR with the live streaming of their very first album. Rob is best-known as the bass player for David Gray. His bass playing career began with the formation LiR in the late 80's. He's also co-produced the last three David Gray albums; two of which have been in the Billboard Top 10 album charts in the US. Over the course of his career, Robbie has played on many world tours with David Gray, and has performed in well-known venues including Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. 

Guitarist Bill Shanley dropped in to chat with Gavin Glass in the Locals Only studio this week. Bill is one of Ireland's top session and touring guitar players and producers. He has also established himself internationally through touring and contributing to albums with Ray Davies, Paul Brady, Mary Black, Roy Harper, Gilbert O Sullivan, Alexandra Burke, Sinead O’Connor, Judy Collins to name a few.

Matthew Devereux of Irish bank, The Pale, popped in to see Gavin Glass in the Locals Only studio at Radio Nova. The Pale formed in 1990 and have made more than 12 albums. We hear about a year in the life of the Pale, they have a new record due out on April 12th, "Merciful Hour" and hear lots more about the band. 

Johnny, Neil, Aoife & Maggie from Peachface call into the Locals Only studio to tell Gavin Glass about their latest music and news and making their Nova debut. . 

Neil and Doug Little Ghetto Boys dropped by the Locals Only studio and filled Gavin Glass in on all their news. They're reformed to raise funds for CMRF - Crumlin Medical Research Facility. Gaving takes a trip down memory lane with them and we hear a of their few tunes. 

Cry Monster Cry visit the Locals Only Studio to chat with Gavin Glass about their music and their latest news. Cry Monster Cry are Irish brothers Richie and Jamie Martin and they've have always had an interest in music. They attribute this to early exposure to the eclectic tastes of their parents. Summer holidays and long car journeys through the Irish wilds of their Mother’s home in Donegal were always accompanied by mixed tapes.

Legendary Irish artist Stano joins Gavin Glass in the Locals Only studio this week. Stano has been a recording artist and composer since the early ‘80’s. With 14 albums (released on Berlin label ‘Dossier’, Independent labels ‘Scoff’, ‘Food Records’ London, ‘Egg Records’ Greece, ‘Hue’ and ‘Loscann’ and the debut album for U2’s Mother Records), numerous singles and film soundtracks to his credit. He is regarded as a true innovator, with an intense understanding of sonic structure and always ahead of his time.

A bumper podcast this week, Gavin Glass speaks with Crazycrow and Paul Cleary from The Blades. Crazycrow are are Denis Doran, Gerry Hendrick, Paul Byrne, Geoff Kirk. They've just recorded a new album and tell Gavin all about it and play some tunes from the new album. Meanwhile, Paul Cleary gives us an update on all the latest news from The Blades.  

This week, Gavin Glass has KL and Aileen of The Remedy Club live in the Locals Only studio. The Remedy Club are a husband and wife Americana/Roots duo comprising Kj McEvoy & Aileen Mythen. The duo have been described as ''a classic, rich and wholly authentic country-roots sound with vocals to die for''. It's been a year since they've come and they play some tracks from their new album and have a chat. 

This week, Gavin speaks with Harvest, a superb 8-piece band that perform the songs and music of the legendary Neil Young. Harvest was formed by Neil Young mega fan Sean O Leary in 2009. Initially a 4 piece, the band is now an 8 piece including pedal steel, electric piano and harmony backing vocals. Harvest have successfully delivered brilliant live sold out shows throughout Ireland and the UK. Harvest mix the energy and dynamics of Neil’s electric numbers with Crazy Horse with the delicacy and beauty of songs from his acoustic periods. Gavin Glass chats with the band and gets them to play some stunning Neil Young tracks. 

This week, Gavin speaks to Dublin band, The Receipts. The band are Karl, Ronan Clinton, James and Paul. The Receipts go back 30 years and have recently reformed in the last 4 years and have got back jamming together. They're about to launch their new album. They've just come from a festival and they're in good spirits. Brona plays the debut single from her new album, tells Gavin how the album came about and talks about her former band, Gypsy Rebel Rabble.

A dear friend of Shane Maloney’s and Dan Brady’s – Jonathan Kelly committed suicide on the 31st of March 2013. In honour of his memory several artists (including the lads) have got together to preform on a collective album featuring 30 acts including Mundy, Phil Coulter and The Frames. Shane and Dan came into studio to talk to John Bowe on Radio Nova’s Locals Only about their memories of Jonathan -who was a chef who loved fishing and festivals. The album launch – Songs for Jay Kay – on March the 28th is on in the Grand Social, Dublin. Shane and Dan preform a cover of an old R&B song by Mario ‘let me love you’

The band The Conns got together in 2011 and originate from Offaly. They are currently working on material for an up and coming début album. Gigging regularly around Ireland your sure to find these guys rocking fibbers in true ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll’ style. They got lots of music up on soundcloud but The Conns have saved their some really good tracks for live performances. They play ‘Us Against the World’ live in studio, we play their song ‘Perfect’ and they also squeeze in a cover of ‘message in a bottle’ by The Police.

Hvmmingbyrd are a unique new sound to hit the airwaves, a five piece all female group with – Deborah Byrne: vocals, guitar – Becca Carroll: vocals, keys – Dolores Fogarty: flute, melodica, vocals – Helen Lane: drums, percussion – Catriona Mitchel: bass, double bass, vocals. They have a beautifully crafted sound that is haunting, with intense and wonderfully harmonised melodic vocals. These ladies don’t mess around and they play the song ‘You’ (not yet released) live on Radio Nova’s Locals Only and off their self titled début Album we play ‘The Sad’ … for more listen back here.

The Great Simones who have supported the Riptide Movement, the Lost Brothers and Alabama 3 are an up and coming alternative blues rock group from Naas county Kildare. There is a good taste of folk in their new LP that they have been working on for the past two years and we play their new single ‘In Between Days’ off the LP. From Country Kildare the Dynamics are a great act who recently played a great gig a UL Ireland. Rob, Alan and Fionn came into Studio to talk to Brian Walsh about their latest release – the single – ‘User Loser Blues’ which because of the reaction to their EP ‘User Loser Blues’ has become the single they released. Chris Haze is a singer/songwriter from Galway who works across the board with many different styles and genres of music. John Bowe talks to Chris on Radio Nova’s Locals Only where Chris preforms the song ‘I don’t’ (off his up and coming EP) live. With influences like Whipping boy the North Sea are a Dublin based alternative rock group with Eoin Kenny (Vocals) Shane Monaghan (Guitar) Gary Mackey (Guitar) Lee Carr (Bass) Daragh Murphy (Drums). These guys have been crafting a unique sound since the release of their début EP in 2012 and have toured Ireland extensively – where they have sold out gigs. They sing their song ‘December’ live in studio here at #Nova – (off their forthcoming album due for release this Spring) and their critically acclaimed single ‘Drinking Alone’ also gets some airplay on Locals Only too! Versive are an alternative rock group from Dublin consisting of Kelan – Lead Vocals – Conor – Guitar/Vocals – Dan – Drums and Oscar – Bass/Vocals. Their Début EP – Planet Mosh is well worth checking out as is this interview with the lads who play their song ‘haunted’ live and ‘Blackout the title track off the EP.

Road Worn Frets and Corner Stone get together on this weeks edition of Radio Nova’s Locals Only. Both bands hail from Kilmacud Ireland and will be preforming a two band gig in the local GAA centre on Saturday the 7th of Febuary 2015. FangClub are a garage-punk-rock band from North county Dublin with Stevin King on vocals and guitar, Kevin Keane on Bass and Dara Coleman on Drums. In support of their début EP they’ll be rocking the country top to toe in 2015, already with a taste of international audiences as they have played in Germany and the UK. Watch the sky are an alternative rock 4 piece formed in Bray in early 2013 – with no sign of slowing down these guys are rocking the scene. Elevation Falls aim is to echo the great Rock/Pop bands of the past, with a modern edge. They were originally put together on behalf of the singer/songwriter Hazel Jade, who had already garnered industry attention since the age of 13. Whilst she grew as an artist, her want was for a new rock band which members formally became Elevation Falls. The band formed in September 2012. Now over two years on, their sound has matured greatly, with the support of members. In January 2013 they performed as part of ‘The Vibe’ at the Button Factory in Dublin (capacity 750) to great acclaim. Since then, they’ve achieved rotational radio airplay on many Dublin radio stations and had a song published in the US.

The Statics are a four piece Dublin outfit were formed in the late 2010 with Liam Gardner (Lead Vocal/Guitar), Daragh O’Connell (Guitar/Vocals), Jacqueline Campion (Drums) and Thomas Nugent (Bass). Toy Solider are an electro-rock band from Ireland. They have toured in Europe and the US and played Ireland’s very own electric picnic. They must be one of Ireland’s brightest acts, attracting a massive following everywhere they go. Listen back here to hear them preform ‘animal’ on Radio Nova’s Locals Only. (you’d never guess they’re originally from Cork)

Madra are a rock and roll three piece from Kildare/Dublin Ireland who sound a bit like Zeppelin with a melodic Beatles edge, a touch of the Ramones a la Bowie. Their new EP “Humanerisms” is ready for upload from iTunes, you can also listen to it on MySpace or www.Madramusic.com. They have plans for a new album in the new year. Vagabonds and Thieves are a unique outfit from Kildare, expect footstomping blues with a folksy feel. They talk to Johnny Bowe on Locals Only and play their song ‘Uncle Sam’ Live in studio. You can listen back here to find out who Uncle Sam is!

David Geraghty (BELLX1) is the mastermind behind ‘Join me in the pines’ ensemble, but where does the name for the band come from, it might be a bit more romantic than joining the lads down in the pub for a pint. Stephen Young & the union are the cream of the crop in Ireland when it comes to Americana/Folk-rock, following the release of their début album ‘Wilderness Machine’ in March 2011 the band have gone from strength to strength. Winning the MRU award for best Alternative-Country act in December 2012, while they continued to draw media and blog attention from the UK and US. Buffalo Sunn are one of The Irish Times top 3 acts to of seen at the Electric Picnic 2014, they are up there alongside Sinead O’Connor and the Blades. This 6 piece rock and roll duo were know as Sweet Jane until October 2013. They are signed to the Reekus Records and are enjoying radio success in US as well as at home. Paul Byrne on his début album ‘Cruel & Tender Ways’ has “a powerful country-soul voice with his warm velvety tones takes us on a journey through life, love and relationships.” – breaking tunes. A founding member of the band ‘In Tua Nua’ working on early demo’s with Sinead O’Connor for the band their first single was released on U2’s Mother label. AudioKiss released their new début album ‘really kind of moving’ and is available in Tower records and HMV. The album which contains previously released single “A little realisation” will also be released in Italy. Comprising of some of ‘In Tua Nua’s finest members, bassist Jack Dublin, front woman Christina Calls and Siobhan Mahon. Thick as Thieves are one of Ireland’s most refreshing new acts – formed in May 2013, these guys are a force to be reckoned with. Originally the band were called “one of the boys” and following their success as OTB – 2 charted singles, an appearance at the Youth Music Awards and the Monaghan Fortstock Festival – they have re-created themselves. This four piece Irish band Acrobat are from Dublin, formed in 2013 by Mark Healy (singer/guitarist) and bass player Naoise Morzadec, they went looking for a drummer to join them and found Dutch-Indonesian Jacob Koopman busking on Grafton Street before completing the line up with Heritage centre front man Conal McIntyre. Their EP was recorded in Westland studios and Exchequer Studios and released on their own record label Stoneship records. Tiny Magnetic Pets are made up of Paula Gilmer on Vocals, Seán Quinn: Synths/Vocals, Eugene Somers on Drums and Seamus Quinn on Bass & Electric Guitars.
