It's the Prime Minister's coma. Everyone stand up here he is. Good morning, Prime Minister, Good morning, are you sir?
Well? Good morning. It happened a year and congratulations to you and Peagan.
Oh, it's.
Congratulations from the Prime Minister.
Are you in Canberra promise or here in Sydney.
I'll be back in Cambus soon. But the what I was going to say, they made as a Virginia and I had our anniversary just the other day, thirty two years, so I can I can highly recommend congrats well as I know you have as I did. Well, mate, you'll be.
Good, Thank you sir. Now, well, can I ask you a bit of a manly advice When you get married and you get into it and it starts to slump sexually, do you have any Do you have any tricks there to spice things apple? Or do I just do I just try harder.
I'm sure you'll be able to cope.
Are you've heard? He knows, he knows. Thank you. Now let's get onto real urgent visions. That to me is my urgent business. Your urgent business is no vax. Djokovic objected from the country. What what's the go there are you happy with that? Was there no other choice? Are you worried about the Serbian president because those serbs we all know they can they can smack down those serbs. We're worried about that.
Well, look, at the end of the day, this just came back to something very straightforward, and that was we have clear rules for when people can come to this country, particularly in the course of a pandemic. You got to be vaccinated, or you've got to have a medical exemption, have either of those. So this is about the rules applying equally to everybody, and we make sure we stood up to that. And it looked regrettable that all of these things have you know that this has occurred, but that's they're the rules.
Couldn't you just could you have just gone? And it's sad, isn't it.
Do you think there will come a time where the vaccination won't be an issue going down the track because we've obviously spent the last two years what feels like in lockdown and now ow you know a lot of those rules have been lifted and pretty much everyone's getting it, and I think we're all kind of accepting the fact that we are going to get it. Are we going to some stage just go well, it doesn't matter if you're vaxed or not coming into our country. Or do you think this would be a forever thing.
I don't think it's for everything, but it's certainly a now thing. And that's and that we certainly need those rules in place now, and that's why we were so adamant that they had to be upheld. I mean, the government has to be able to put in place rules that protect people's health in this country. And we have one of the lowest death rates, strongest economies and highest vaccination rates in the world. And that's done pretty much.
Let me tell you. That's on you. You've done that.
Sorry, you've done well with that all that. Yeah, Australians have made a lot of sacrifices to do that too, And so that's why there can't be one rule for one group of people another rule for another group of people who are looking to come into the country.
You reckon it was he reckons his people filled out the forms wrong. Do you reckon it was deep? I know, we probably can't get involved in too much because it's a minister in court and all that. But and at the top when you saw it, did you see the Channel seven people been thinking about him behind and that got leak. That's funny. Did you think, oh God, I'm gonna have to chat with the Serbian president about this.
Well, I did speak to the Serbian Prime Minister about it, and we had a very very professional conversation about it, and a very respectful one. I mean, we both have rules in our countries and I would expect Australians to respect the rules in Serbia, just like I would expect Australians to respect the rules in any country around the world, and equally when people come to our country, they have to respect our rules. And that's at the end of the day. That's what this was all about. And the fact that we closed our borders early in the pandemic. It saved over forty thousand lives along with everything else we've done, so it's important we stood up for that. We did stand up for that. Sometimes when you stand up for things that can get tough. Plenty of people were telling us we should back off and all the rest of it, and I said, no way, Yeah, I.
Agree, because I saw in the news a lady in Serbia was like, I can't believe they did this to the number one tennis player, and I thought, well, it shouldn't matter whether you're the number one tennis player, or whether you own a servo or whether you're a garbage man. The same thing applies to everyone.
Well, that's Australia. That's what Australia is all about. It's a fair go for everyone and that's what it's supposed to mean. And the rules apply equally to everybody and doesn't matter. And it wasn't about tennis. It wasn't about a tennis player. It was about Australia having these rules and that they had to be upheld and people had to respect them. And that's where the result has come. And Alex talked did a great job as minister to I'm sure that that was was enforced and so we get on with the tennis and go ash.
Party, Go Ash barty. Did I bet you the Minister was sweating though, because he had the whole world it's all all on me, like he'd.
Be sweating, right, you say, It's like, I know what it feels like. I was in that job a number of years ago when we're dealing with other challenges on our borders and that there is a lot of pressure on those things, but you've just got to make the right calls and be consistent, and that's what he did, and that's what we've been trying to do all the way through this pandemic. I mean, we've got a quarter of the population over eight age to eighteen now has had their booster shot, so that's on top of their second doses, and that that is over ninety percent now. So Stray has done a great job there and you guys have helped them tremendously with that because we've got to keep going to those boosters. So I've got an important message. If you're between twelve and fifteen, then you're listening this morning. Then if you haven't had your second dose, we're at seventy five percent, so go and get that second dose. And all the mums and dads thank you for getting your five to eleven year olds out there and getting that first backs. We've had a good, strong first week on there. We've got a lot more to do. There's plenty of jabs in the country to do that now, there's millions of doses to get those children's vaccines done. So this week we're going to be talking. I'll be talking with the premiers and chief ministers about getting kids back to school. It's so important we get kids back to school day one, term one, and that they stay open and kids get back to face to face learning.
I'm boosted today, by the way. I'm straight after you, so I'm off to get that third shot. I saw my friend Rose, she's a homeless woman in the cross and I thought she was giving herself the injection, but apparently it was heroin. I told her, hey, you shouldn't do heroin, and she anyway, she dozed off. I thought I'd get back to you later. But everyone, even homeless people, are old people, young people, we all need the injection. Right.
Well, that's silly important to omicron this new variant that the booster actually gives you much greater protection when you have that booster shot. So if you're eligible to have that booster shot, and more people will become eligible from the end of January, but right now there's millions who are and well out half of those, well over fifty percent. Now I've had who are eligible to have it. I've had it until we need people to keep doing that because that's how we push through.
Now.
I know there are a lot of people working, you know, and tolls and woolies and distribution centers and hospitals and h care centers. They are under a lot of pressure at the moment because one of the big challenges of this virus, the omicron virus, is it takes people out of work, and so hospitals get under pressure. Not so much because of the number of patients, but because we've got people coming out of the workforce, which makes it very hard to continue to support that that we are and we're getting through it. It's very tough though, So all of those who are working in those hospitals and are the healthcare settings at the moment, but or stacking shells or making sure stuff get on trucks so they can get out to the supermarkets. Thank you. You're doing a great job.
For here, and with the rules, you know, always changing. I just wanted to check. So I was a close contact over the holiday, so I spent seven days isolating. But that's not the case now. If you're a close contact, you don't have to isolate.
Only if you're working in one of those essential industries. Okay, so if you you know, you and I we don't fall into that definition.
You don't fall under essential But I do.
I'm sure I do.
You've got to work for that ring mate, that's right by the way, I'm looking for an engagement party venue's Kiribi. Well, I said that we're looking at that ring and then what would have costume? Mat I don't think that the Caribilly fees would be pretty steep.
Charged me after getting campaign everything quick pro crowl whatever they call that, I thought, Okay, that doesn't work.
I'm sure it'll have you. Have you said a date or no?
No, no date yet, no date set yet. I just got caught up in the engagement of it, all the fabulousness.
Yeah, tremendous. I remember it was a long time ago for group. But anyway, did you do?
Where did you and where did you propose?
Did you get I told this embarrassing story much to my own detriment before, But Geny and I were in Martin Place and I did it the middle of Martin Place and was place.
In front of everyone.
Did you did you get down on one knee?
Were just there? Used to be there's some bench seats up the top of the near where the hospital was, and and we've been going out for five because I've been I've been extinct, so we've been in for our whole lives, and so it was you know, I wouldn't call it the most romantic of settings, but we've bedn't be going together for five years up until that point, and so you know, I'm sure both understood. You know, that's where we were going.
I think, is there any did you think, like, oh, there's a chance she might knock me back? Or was always a yes?
No I didn't, but you know, she always had that option. She may have reconsidered that on the occasion, you know, the demands that have been placed on her. But she's amazing and I love it dearly and and it was so nice to catch up with her again after our anniversary. On the anniversary day we had National Cabinet a few other things to.
Details, and what happened on the anniversary day, we can pretty much we can imagine the love of a man and the woman. Hey, let you go off it. You've got a very busy job. We're just mucking around here.
Yeah, the Prime Minister, thanks for chatting to us this morning.
Good luck everyone, be safe, Thank you Prime.
Thanks Kyle and Jackie O.
