Luke Combs joined the show and mid-chat Chris Sandilands (Kyle's brother) ambushed the interview for his radio show debut! Have a listen to hear how it went down.
Landing Rains many Land Forever.
After my brother Chris Jackie. You know, Chris the truck driver loves his country music. He listens to this show because it's the biggest show in Australia. But then he gives us the ars and he goes over to the country music stations and he's been talking my year off about Luke Comb's. That's the name I know. I don't know many country types, but Luke Combs I know next because I've read it also about it Luke in the newspaper. He puts some concert tickets on sale and boom, within minutes, instantly sold out, and there's all these cowboy hats thrown in the air. People were pissed that they couldn't get in. This guy's so popular, we thought we got to get him and show him everyone. He's got a new album al called Getting Old, drops March twenty four on Zoom from North Carolina, Ladies and gentlemen, Luke Comb. Yes, it's all hello. Maybe, first of all, welcome to this show. Thanks for coming on. The thing I've fell in love with you about is that you're not one of these Beyonce types that dresses up in the feathers on your concert. What you see here on zoom is what is walking out on It's like you've driven your RV to the concert and just got out and got on stage, and what you see is what you get.
You legit, Yeah, try to be you know, legit as I can.
It's much easier that way, no doubt. You don't have to worry about big cosmic changes and what are you going to wear?
You just do your thing.
I literally wear the same clothes every night at the concert, so I don't even have to think about what I'm gonna wear.
You know, the same thing every day.
It's good continuity, I feel for videos, so you can't tell, oh, I did this yesterday. And this is another great story. It's a great success story at Luke's. He started off just as a bouncer and a pub, then started performing at the pub and now one of the biggest, if not what i'd say, in the top five of the big country artists worldwide. Is this a pinch me moment or did you just think, yeah, well, I've always known I'm good. It's about time everyone caught up. Or were you was surprised? No, I was pretty surprised.
Man.
I mean, I never would have imagined anything like this, to be honest with you, but I always just had I always had a lot of confidence in my voice, you know. And and then man, it just really took off from there.
You know.
I told my son, So, I just turned thirty three. I taught myself guitar when I was twenty one, wrote my first song at twenty two, and here we are.
Man, it's crazy stuff.
Did you ever have moments where you told people, Oh, one day I'm going to be you know, I'm gonna have my own record out, I'm going to play shows or did you just keep it to yourself?
I mean I probably told people that, like once I started playing shows and stuff, like, you know, i'd love to I didn't really, I didn't really think it was like possible though, right, like it seems like such a crazy thing to try to accomplish. But then as then as I started, it was just really step by step, Like it was really small steps of Like I didn't pick up a guitar and go, okay, I want to be you know, Garth Brooks. I picked up the car and said, okay, I want to play a g chord, and then I want to play a C chord and then I want to play a song, and then.
You start early. You were, so you just picked this up when most people have already decided their faith. Oh I'm going to be a postman and then your postman for like fifty goddamn years. But you just thought you changed track and you thought, hey, I'm all right at this. Everyone started to resonate, and and the rest is history. Yeah.
I mean I had been singing my whole life, you know, I always enjoyed just you know, it was just a hobby that I enjoyed.
Right.
So I was in chorus like in high school, and you know, people people always liked when I sang and stuff, and I enjoy doing it. And I just never thought of like music as something you could really do for a living. That just never really dawned on me.
You know.
It's like I come from a very you know, lower middle class, you know upbringing. My dad was a maintenance man, my mom worked at the bank, and it was like, you know, I mean it was like my parents always told me you can be, you know, anything you want to be, but it was just like my upbringing was also it was just like, well, let's be realistic.
Yeah, exactly, that's true. You know you're gonna go you know, you're gonna be a whatever.
You know, you're gonna do whatever, just regular old job anybody else has, you know, And that just always felt like what I was going to do, right, And then I guess I kind of realized it, like twenty one. I was like as a you know, I'm kind of after my third year of college at that point, and I'm like, well, I stink at school, and it's like, I don't you know, I'm not really hyped on like going and continuing to like pursue this thing that I'm not like super excited about.
And what jobs right? Right?
I mean, really that's crazy as that sounds.
What were you doing? What were you doing? Were you were you were smoking weed, drinking beers? What?
What?
What? What was your what was your area? Where were you sitting there?
Definitely I was doing all that.
Well, we get on well.
Doing that, and I was I was playing rugby.
That's what I was doing rugby.
Wow, that's awesome. And are you aware? I'm sure, Luke, they've told you that when you come here for shows, we do kind of pressure you into doing what's called a showy sure.
This here's the thing. This is my third time coming astray. I've been doing shoeies since I played rugby in college.
Okay, okay, okay.
I'm a shoey Ben.
That's where the voice comes from.
Poor old Harry Styles was he did his first shoey and he's not a shoey kind of guy, but.
A Converse too, and we all know that's no good. You can't do a converse sweaty chicks with a Converse and those socks you'd still but jesus, you knew their feet stunk.
Like I don't say roots, Kyle, I don't know what that means.
Oh, I make love to sorry, make love to you. Now, look before you go anywhere. I wanted to get my brother on that. He's the one to put me on the radar. He was like, have you not heard of Luke Cames like he was really having to guard me. Anyway, I've got to get my brother Chris on the air next to do the biggest interview of his radio career, which has not even started yet. Now I've got my brother Chris Sandlands on the line as well. He's a truck driver. He also does a country radio show which is about to launch on our big country radio network. Chris Sandlands, Meet Luke Calmes. Luke comes, meet my brother Christoph.
Hey, what up, Luke?
How are you?
Man?
First off, I'd just like to apologize. I don't know if you were aware of what sort of show you were about to be thrust into this morning with my brother and Jack.
Oh no, it was awesome, man, I had a great time.
Ah, that's great, mate. Hey listen, we're all super pumped for you to come down here now. Is there any chance you're going to do any more shows because men and your tickets sold out so fast, so many people are going to miss out.
Yeah.
Well, you know, it's crazy, Like I hadn't really told anybody this up to this point, but we we wanted to do stadiums, but the Women's World Cup is there while we're there, and so we go. So yeah, we figured why not just come and do the shows anyways and then we'll just come back later. And that's enough.
Christy not hijacking the whole thing for you.
Give him something else. One I just want to I just want to ask one question now, since I pushed and pushed and pushed to get you on this show. And finally rammed your music down my brother's throat.
Now, I know you don't do a lot of meat.
And greet, but you do it through your bootleg at fan page. Now you've joined all this sort of stuff. But any chance we can sort of jump the cue, me and the missus and when you're here, Yeah.
Of course we can make that happen, No.
Doubt, man, that'd be great because we're at your first show here, and see, I don't know, that'd be fantastic.
I had to pull I didn't realize you. But it's a second question. He's never interviewed me, and in his life he's gone in using the white privileged power that he now thinks. He wheels.
I can't win anything on your show because we were you know, we're related, and that's prize enough. But hey, here's my opportunity to win something that no one else can get.
Make that happen.
What a gentleman. You'll have to hang up on Christ by Chris, Chris Jesus Christ, there's no time left. Well this will be on another network too, but no doubt, Jack and I'll be all cut out of it. Luke Man, Just well done. I really do love your stuff. There's not a lot of country artists on my radar. I'm a baber guy. You know. Do you like beaver hear that? Oh yeah? Would you do a song with the Beabes? That would be great? It was the right song, you know.
Yeah, yeah, exactly because.
If you get lucky enough to get one of them concert tickets, they are sold out. Fans are stinging to see him. We can't wait to have you in the country again, Luke Holmbs. Thanks so that the new album Getting Old drops March twenty four. You can add it to your collection. Mate. Hopefully we've chat to you again.
Yeah, do some bigger shows, Luke, come back and do bigger shows.
They all want to see you before you go. Can I just hit plane record here? Can you do the old?
Yeah?
It's Luke Colmbs and you're listening to Christoph on Kicks Country. Okay?
Go Hey, I'm Luke Colmbs and you're listening to Christoph on Kicks Country.
Okay. Yeah, one more time? Can you put some effort into it this time? Maybe? Joker, Honey, Joker, Luke Colmbs. This Morning around Australia here at Kiss FM,
