Dr Liana Roodt is a specialist breast and endocrine surgeon working in both the public and private sectors in Cape Town. She is the founder and executive director of Project Flamingo, a cancer NGO focused on improving timely and compassionate breast cancer care in South Africa, and serves as executive director of the Cancer Alliance of South Africa. She is also a lecturer in surgery at the University of Cape Town. She joins us to discuss why she is choosing to wear black rather than pink this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and her concerns about the state of cancer care in South Africa.
Presenter John Maytham is an actor and author-turned-talk radio veteran and seasoned journalist. His show serves a round-up of local and international news coupled with the latest in business, sport, traffic and weather. The host’s eclectic interests mean the program often surprises the audience with intriguing book reviews and inspiring interviews profiling artists.
A daily highlight is Rapid Fire, just after 5:30pm. CapeTalk fans call in, to stump the presenter with their general knowledge questions. Another firm favourite is the humorous Thursday crossing with award-winning journalist Rebecca Davis, called “Plan B”.
