Greetings, Welcome inside final hour tonight the Jason Smith Show with my bes.
Friend Mike Harmon.
Now, before we get into the latest with the Knicks head coaching search, I.
Know, yay, I got an idea, right, like.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, who were at Game four the Stanley Cup Finals.
Yeah, they word all right. You saw Taylor Swift do the heart pounding thing.
This game was an incredible game, best Stanley Cup final in the decade, probably go down as one of the top top five Stanley Cup finals of all time.
Yeah. Some said that was her best dancing that she's ever done. Was jet little movement. I'm just thinking about this right. So there at the gain that's going to bring more attention to it.
I'm sure there's people on social media that are don't know how to Should I be happy that she's here or do I have to hate her because she's here?
I don't know.
Let me see what people are tweeting. I don't know what tweet to come down of this. But I thought about this, right like I always think about easy ways to make money, right, Like at this point, if you're Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey, couldn't you make all kinds of money just by showing up at people's events? Like, Hey, I have this event. I'd like there to be a lot of coverage of it to make it and I want to pay you. You don't have to do anything, don't have to do anything that's aholl point. Just show up and let cameras see you video of you go out there and okay, and we'll pay you X amount of dollars just to come and enjoy the event. Right, We'll give you food, you get to watch. It's exciting whatever it is. It could be Game four, the Stanley Cup Final, it could be a big kid's birthday party like Jeff Bezos is having, you.
Know, I don't know something like that.
You could do all right, right, I'll pay you all kinds of money just to come and watch, because clearly you going to the.
Game that flips the script for everybody.
Oh suddenly, now Tailorswift and Travis Kelce here, Okay, this is a big deal. Travis Kelson, I have to play football anymore. Taylorshrift doesn't have to have a content. You have to keep buying her songs and buying the buying the reissued versions of her songs, and buying from herself the versions that you bought last year. Because I'm sure there's some kind of text thing going on. It would be a big thing. Show up anyway. We'll pay you in the millions of dollars both of you show up to come up. Maybe that's the thing. A million dollars to both of you to come and watch this event.
Yeah. See, this goes back to the philosophy I've had for years when people complain about what it costs to get an autograph of a current player at one of these card shows, like the National Collector's Convention is coming up in Chicago at the end of the month, and you got a bunch of retired guys from the seventies and eighties. Yea, you know, they're fifty sixty bucks a pop, and then you'll have the flavor of the month all star to fifty And like, why is that? Like, cause he's making twenty five million dollars this year. It ain't worth his time to walk across the street unless there's a giant check. A million dollars. She's selling that albums every day. You gotta you gotta up, but you have to do anything all Yeah, it's all all expense is paid. You I get just watch the sporting event. Yeah, but it's a million dollars. But you have to decide you really want to be there because you're gonna have to deal with a lot of people.
Well, she's also helping Travis Kelcey was not making a million dollars a day.
He's making a lot of money.
Hey, you're making okay, so fifteen million for the NFL, thirty million for his podcast, right probably okay, so making maybe fifty million dollars.
But either way, like he's doing fine. Don't have to take a hit. Don't hit him, she's got it. Well, he's the only a year removed. He's got one boy here before. He's not doing that anyway, But that doesn't matter. That take your time because once you become an x NFL star, eh are you that interesting? A lot of rumors that they got married along the process too.
Yeah, IM saying, show up at the Gold Cup, Gold Cup and pay a couple of million dollars.
You get these guys, the two of them at the Gold Cup to see it. No, I like, I like the cut of your jib. Here the opportunity you get some branding mix in. Yeah, you'd wear the official jacket of you know, some Yahoo and they make some money and everybody pays in and it's a feeder system.
Go to the US Open, right, people, I want to see the US Open, you get see an albatross. No, but I want to see Travis Travis Kelcey and and and Taylors the albatross. I want to go go to a Rockies game. Whoa the million dollars. Come to a Rockies game.
What section are they in, doesn't matter. You can walk to right where they are.
They will paint those those seats when they leave, no one will ever sit in those again. People will take picture just like the Grimace seat in City Field.
I was pretty good.
Come take picture off by Happy Birthday, Grimace Yeah, they'll take pictures of that'll be it'll be outstanding.
No.
I kind of like this. I mean it's certainly marketing and in a whole other way. I don't know that Taylor Swift necessarily gets in on it, but I think I think we could find the right influencers or celebrities to do this. I mean a lot of them show up at Knicks games with their hands out trying to get tickets. Yeah, but Travis Kelcey and Taylor swifters. No, if it moves to me, we'll see what the ratings boost is and and the social media engagement. I showed you the Tony soprano the round. They'll also do it.
Because I can get paid and I can drive people back. Banantta is crazy for some reason, get really upset just because they show me at a game.
Now they did, I would say if I took the over for this game versus the last Chiefs game she attended. Okay, way over here, Okay, all right. We got a lot of and long shots. Normally those are in between plays. Next play up, you're you're back onto the field of player. You're watching something on the sideline. Here it was we got a lot going on because that was after a goal as they do the reset. Let's just just leave it there. Let's have some fun. Uh so it works. I like it. Monetization capitalization is good. Yeah, the big.
UFC event day, Travis, Travis Kelsey and Taelo Swifter here, all right, great, all right, I'd like to see this pitch to that.
Yeah, why not? All you gotta do all you got to because you got to deal with the script raft. You're gonna have to do a lot of glad. And do you think I'm gonna see her in Brazil? Yeah, there's no question about it.
Yeah, you'll probably do a concert and they get a concert and then the game. You'll see you there when you go for it?
What do I do? No? No, I think you try to get a picture. I mean it was a picture and you took a little girl who was wearing one of the cardigans. Enemy. I can't take a picture.
I I I think I think I think your family would forgive you for that if you took a picture.
I wouldn't forget myself. I got it with my little salty at you. If you had that opportunity and didn't I pay the expenses.
For you to come, I pay the expenses for you to stay at whatever hotel. I pay you a million dollars apiece, and then you leave after it. So all you don't need to do any press, don't need to do any interviews, just need to be in your seats and enjoying what's happening, just paying attention. And so I can just show you on TV million dollars apiece. Yeah, I think that's a good starting point. I would be open in negotiation if I were hurt people.
But that's all you have. It's easy, that's passion. Easy.
If instead of going on tour and actually, you know, boy, I'm really tired of dancing all night, I'm singing all these songs, you.
Could still make a million dollars. You go on the road for three hundred das. Yeah, that's three hundred million dollars just by going to games. Yeah. But she also injects more three hundred million dollars into the economy with what she gives her drivers and her dancers and and all the ticket sales and merch and I mean there's there's a lot. I know that that's a machine she's raising.
Man, don't give me a flaw on my plan where suddenly, Now, oh, I'm taking jobs away from people.
Give me that. I'm trying to help the group. Stole your jobs. Hey, I'm trying to tough the greater. Good bye.
Hey, more people will watch these great sport events. You and I do sports for a living. Let's keep it going.
No, hey, I'm all for it. You know, go to go to the NBA Finals, you know, go there? Well, yeah, go to Indiana.
Sitting next to John mellan shit between John mellencamp and Pat mcafond.
He's with Caitlyn Clark. Yes, heyst to her? Yeah right, she can do the choking motion, Joe, or do the Jalen Brunston's. Yeah, Kaylinn Clark. Maybe that that's I say. Look, I'm helping, man, I'm helping things. It's how works. I mean, she's she's an Eagles fan or what? Go to the Oscars.
More people will watch the Oscars, the Emmy's, the Tony's Tonys are just last week people, Hey, Taylor Swift and Travis Colt million.
Dollars all of us got put online immediately. It's like a late night doesn't matter, like the late night comedies. Man, they're showing them they put them up on and I'm I'm talking about the immediacy of actually watching the telecast, don't post it to social five minutes after it happens.
That's that's that's the world, man, that's the world. It's how it goes. Can't stop people making money. Now, speaking of stopping people for making money, the Knicks really robbed me of making an easy fifty grand fifty because I would have been nice, right if I was.
You're telling her to self.
Sure, well, because I'm only working for three minutes, so I think fifty grand is okay for three minutes.
I pro rate that out now, Yeah, it's a million dollars for an hour.
The Knicks have been an absolute train wreck with this search for a head coach, getting told no, they're they're an embarrassment, right. They went from We're a destination to it really don't know what we're doing. The night they fired Tibbs, who did I tell you were the two guys they should go after number one Rivers?
No, no, no, no, you can't make that happen. I think I can.
I can have you put in in in sports talk radio jail because no permission was given by the Bucks to have Doc Rivers name be said on the show, do we need it? I don't know, but I'm gonna say that just in case, make it sound of when trading something.
Yeah. But uh, the two names I gave you was number one, I said, listen, no, no, no, So we have to call him by his Christian name, Glenn, I said, with two ends.
The first name I told you was Mike Brown. Right, Mike Brown, terrific head coach. He's been through every situation in big markets and smaller markets. He has succeeded. He's taken teams to the finals. He's coached big players, He's coached big egos. And his offensive system would fit with what the Knicks to. His defensive system would get them back to where they were. He is a terrific head coach. Or two years ago, was the head coach, was a Coach of the Year in the NBA. He's the guy to go get no. But then the Knicks decide we're going to go on these crazy ass quests. Just get denied permission? And where are they now? Where the reports are today? The big coaching news today was that potentially Mike Brown is at the top of the Knicks list to be their next head coach right now. They haven't talked to me at there's been no official talk. But at least they weren't told no by anybody today, so at least that's a win for the Knicks. But I told you this, James Dolan, I should have concept. Dude, give me three minutes. I'll say an hour. Just make it look like I'm doing a lot of work. I say, I'll have your guy you should go after in an hour. Well, really, yes, just give me fifty grand. I'll give you the guy. Okay, great. I would have given him Mike Brown and we'd be here, except the Knicks wouldn't have had their really embarrassing last week where well Jason Kidd.
Said no, and the Mavericks said no, and.
The the Rocket said no, and the Bulls said no, and the he Wolf said no, and the Hawks said no, and oh my goodness, and Jay Wright said no, this is embarrassing. I would have had the Knicks at Mike Brown without all this crazy ass stuff that embarrassed them. I would have had and I would have said fifty grand. Because I I have a conscience. I could have said, I could say a million dollars nothing to a guy like James. But you know what, but if I'm working for three minutes to give you a guy's name, pay me three minutes worth fifty thousand dollars. I'd given you Mike Brown, and the Knicks would go get this guy and they'd be all said, I'd be excited about Michell.
I mean that would mean your hourly rate. Unlike doctor Sharon who takes fifty minutes but charges you for the hour, You're you're giving him the discount of only charging for the three minutes, but pro rated out multiply about twenty What do you got million dollars an hour? So Dolan gets off on the cheap because you have a little bit of sentimentality. You want to look out for your guy, your team, whatever, the next person to come through. If Mike Brown would pan out as the head coach, now you're getting your million dollars. Now you're getting your quote and then some because you're now the fixer. You are the wolf, all right. Mike Brown, according to DraftKings is the favorite at plus one oh five, followed by my pick from back in the day, Taylor Jenkins. Because really it was a job morant problem there, and you know philosophical things between the team John Brant and him getting But that's a thing.
Hey, you got to be able to get along with your stars, at least to the point where I know, I know.
But still those are extenuating circumstances. Come on, Brown, that makes Mike Brown and lebron and and Kobe looked like Popovich and Tim Duncan. No. But that's the thing. It's one thing for the guy to be loud and challenge you. It's another to be like, is he coming to work? Is he getting suspended? But still's he doing? There's only so much coaching I can do that, But but it's still your coach. You know, Hey, if he made that happen, it would have been great. Didn't help him out that, but still, I mean, look, then you got Johnny Bryant, Michael Malone, Yeah, not happening. And then you get to Barrego, Boot and Old like those are the four favorites by far. Like Malone is plus five hundred, so five to one, and then you jump to twenty two to one for Barrego. It's no, he's not on the list or No. One at this point, Rick Brunts and Steve Nash, etc. It's dock Doc is just checking his voicemail every five minutes. Anybody I know, it's anybody called. How do you know it's not science? It's Darvin Hands one hundred and one. No, it's not. It's not gonna be Darvin Ham. It's not hurling. It's not gonna be Jackham either, just so you know. Yeah, it's not gonna be John Ham. It's not gonna be uh hands, not gonna be Ham Jones. Remember Ham Lamb and jam Jones. Now you're talking dark rivers are a piece of ham? That's a piece of ham?
Good?
Like, wait a minute, now, is this suit? Is this like a like a like I love you big ass? Hangm like is it hang on?
Like?
Is this like a piece of ham that's kind of dry been left out for? Is this like the really the greatest piece of pershuoto you could ever have.
I'll get back to your next segment on all right, very good, give us persudo.
I'd rather have that took me while I was thirty to really discover purshooto, I'm like, boy, that's a real that's something boy in my life.
I wish I had that back. I would love to discover pashooto like in my you like walking around swollen fingers and dreaming. I love it. You know, proshuoto is another food.
If you said, you know eat professional eating contest, bacon pershuoto, Like there's a theme here, ice cream bacon, purshuoto.
But pursooto Like wow, I could just put you. But you saw the headline this week, right, Joey Chestnut, He's only come back two weeks.
But again, James Dolan fifty grand I'd have got you where you're at right now. With Mike Brown, I could have done it. Exit out about a Fresco exit swollen dome. Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, a lot from the Fox Sports Radio Studios. Coming up next, Great news for every NFL fan everyone, I have great for every NFL, every NFL fan. How can I do this? Is this about the power structure? No, no, I can. I'll tell you how I'll do it. Coming up next, Jason, Am I all right?
Fox?
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon extra cockfight. Maybe Mike, I ever can't tell Thames get a little while you never never know. Before we get to big News from for every NFL fan, which I have in a humanists at big News every NFL. Great news, great news, great way for you to understand, great news for everybody. Uh falling into that category, great news for everybody. We're getting Spaceballs too. Yeah, we are mel Brooks who ninety eight.
I want to be like mel Brooks at ninety eight, where I can wear Spaceballs the sweatshirt and put out a big fun trailer for Spaceballs too. That was hilarious all over the internet today. Like what he says.
He says, uh, you know, the fans wanted something, but instead we're gonna do this like he still has it, man, and I am oddly excited about it, because clearly you look at stuff like this and when you see sequels to classic movies, you say, oh, well it's been a long time and people need money, so we're doing this again. Right, No matter where you go, you see that again. But obviously, look, mel Brooks has made his money's done things. But Spaceballs is such an iconic movie and I'm not as worried about Spaceballs too as I was, say Coming to America to or anything else they tried to put another season on for I don't know. I'm oddly excited about it, mainly because.
Look, Rick moranis is gonna be in it. Bill Pullman's gonna be in it.
And and because what's been lost in movies right in coming back and the way the the movie business has evolved in the last few years is that the big screen comedy has disappeared, right, Like all the comedy you get now in the streaming series. You get movies that go straight to straight to streaming that that are manufactured. Like when's the last great comedy you could say? You would say, Okay, well, Barbie was really fun and I'm going wow, okay, But was Barbie absolutely hilarious or was it a combination of It was fun, There was a lot of fun stuff. There was a lot of there was there was a lot of comedy, right, but but there was some funny stuff in it, lots of funny, but it was also fun to watch. It was an experience, right, That's why the whole Barbenheimer thing went the way it was. But like what a great movie Oppenheimer, Great Greg and Oppenheimer and at the bottom of and I'm just doing that for you because I know how much so overrated.
Come on, man, uh did you say third hour or fifth hour of Oppenheimer? Oh, I captain didn't read it for you because I figured you turned it off before it flipped the four.
I was trying to find the spot what not Appheimer go? Is this the spot where Robert Downey Junior decided I'm going back to the mc U? Is this weird decisor? But like the big the big budget comedy, the big the big comedic events, tenth pole events are gone, right like try when's the last big comedy you went?
Go?
Oh my goodness, So you're running the lines. You're going to see it a couple of times like Mine the Desert. I'll get back to you. Minecraft was a horrible movie. But it's it's a it's a yell. It's a gen Z rocky horror. Make sure show experience, right, Like the comedies have become more Hey, here's an experience and and a fun time at the movies. But the but the absolute great comedies, like they're gone. So I know we're two years away from Spaceballs because it's coming out in twenty twenty seven, like okay, but like that's why I'm excited about it, Like, Okay, we're gonna get a great comedy out in the theaters. That that holding across my fingers and go, I want it to be funny. I want there to be repeated viewings of comedies because that's just been gone right, like the you know, the Will Ferrell's, all the big comedic actors, like they're not doing the stuff that just comes and goes like here it is, you know, Larry Beale's home run call. Here it comes and there it goes. Here's a comedy and there it goes, Like tell them, I mean the last great theater comedy. Like there's been fun stuff on TV and streaming and hey, okay, but the last great fun comedy. It's a big tent pole, Like I'm really going to schools.
Are you going back Hangover series? Whatever?
To you go back to the teens for this, Like that's disappear weird from big screen events. And I still love going to the movies more than anything. I'd rather go to a movie than watch a movie in my house. I mean, I'd still like doing that. But I love going about to replace anything. But I can't tell you the last time for a pure comedy. I'm like, this was great, it was a huge hit. It's become a legendary. We used to get legendary comedies three four a year. Now it's like, when's the last I mean, you're going back to the early teens when you're trying to find those movies that Frostburg just brought up.
Oh and a lot of them, or even earlier, right you talk about two thousand and seven to twenty ten for a bunch of those things that you talk about comedy changing and maybe swinging back a little bit based on some of these specials and videos and stuff that are out there that you know, perhaps in terms of a willingness to joke about things that for a while sent you to the sin bin. To use our hockey analogies since we're talking Stanley Cup Final a lot tonight, in terms of what people will go and sit through big bets for budgets of comedies when you try to get star power attached versus we can make another horror movie or psychological thriller. Yeah that guy. Hey, I haven't gotten to do one of those, I'll do one for scale plus, right, and they do. And horror movies do really well right now if you look at the theaters, yeah you got the I think the Dragon movie opened today that didn't really have the same juice. The Dragon movie, well, how to Train Your Dragon? Right, the live action whatever of that. But I just saw commercial during the hockey game. That's the first I recognized it was out now as opposed to a month from now or whatever. Like the timing of this stuff, it doesn't work the same way it used to, right, that that push. Only certain movies get that breakthrough. But from the comedy side, no, I mean it comes to a theater and it's gone and it's streaming thirty days later. Let me let me, let me just give you this. Okay, here's Rotten Tomatoes Top five comedy since twenty ten, since twenty Tenkay.
If you've heard of three, not seen them. If you've heard of three of these movies, I'll be impressed. Okay, Okay, Top five, Top five, number five, The Big Sick, which I actually heard of and I actually saw it, and.
That guy from what's his name? Yeah, it's coming on, no Johnny, yeah, yea yeah, right right, I've watched the big Say, okay, I saw it.
I'm all right right. This is the number five comedy since twenty ten. Okay, Number four, can you ever forgive me.
Who's in it?
At twenty eighteen, Melissa McCarthy was in it. That's it, okay. Number three eighth Grade, never heard of it. Number two The Farewell, never heard of it. Number one Book Smart, Yeah, okay, which I kind of heard of, Like I remember Lilivia Wilde directed it, right that Caitlin Deaver was in it. Never saw it.
These are the top five comedies. The other ones that I might since twenty ten, the other ones I might have seen, but like remembering the title, I need the SERI. Yeah. So even if you saw it, it's there and gone. Right.
The comed the comic, the big, the big screen comedies are gone. Man, They're absolutely gone. And I don't know what it is. I don't know if people can't write funny movies, but they're just gone.
They're gone. Man. That's what I'm excited about. It excited about song as mel Brooks gets to be mel Brooks, the fact that he's getting Pullman and whatever the hell he wants. Oh, but that's what I mean because because we look at the history of mel Brooks not exactly got it played by rules even when he was a much younger man. So I'm excited. This announcement was was funny, it was well done. The Star Wars list of things that have come out make you shake your head when you think about that expanded universe. But yeah, it's this. This is good news. And Rick moranis back in front of a camera.
Great news, great news. I mean, let's see this is I gota be two years for it, but okay, you'll wait, that's right, yeah, and then we'll review it on the show.
Yeah.
Uh, time not to find out what's trending in the wide world of sports. From someone who's been called the mel Brooks of Fox Sports Radio. She's told all the Clipper fans, wait two years, maybe something good'll happen.
Yeah.
I've been saying that for a long time. I've been saying that for a long time. I wonder if anything's going to change, guys.
Yeah, that should be my slogan. It'll be in two years, guys, we've got it. We've got it. Maybe we will get Paul George back and then you know, we can try it all again. Just kidding, No, don't want him. Uh, We'll start in the Stanley Cup Final because Game.
Four was a thriller. It delivered in every possible way.
Oilers tied the series against the Panthers after erasing a three to zero deficit. I mean, the Panthers scored three goals in the first period. Matthew could Chuck had two of them. Edmonton responded with three goals in the second period, then they took the lead in the third period. Be Florida tied the game on a goal from sam Ryan Hart with nineteen seconds left to force overtime. The Oilers win the game in overtime, five to four, thanks to Leon Drysidel, who has set the record for the most overtime goals in a single postseason in NHL history with four.
Game five will be on Saturday.
Game four of the NBA Playoffs will be tomorrow Friday. In baseball, while the Tigers top the Oriols four to one, Trek Scooble pitched seven shoutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out six. The Yankees edge l Royals won zero. Cubs top to the Pirates three to two. The Brewers shut out the Cardinals six to zero, and the Astros held on to defeat the White Sox at home four to three.
And in NFL news per.
Se, law enforcement in Miami Dade County is looking to a rest former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown on a charge of attempted murder, according to a warrant reviewed by The Washington Post. The charges based on a shooting Brown was allegedly involved in during a celebrity boxing event in Miami last month, and at the first run of the US Open JJ spawn is in the lead at four under par Defending champ Bryce into Shambo is three over along with world number one Scottie Scheffler and Rory McElroy is four over.
Back to you guys, thank you very much.
I don't forget the albatross today. Yeah, there wasn't albatross patross. I had never heard of them until today. Do you know what an albatross is?
You explained it and I already forgot.
I'm really glad it was two hours ago.
I'm just keeping it. I'm just keiving it one hundred.
Just give it a real stuff, he says.
I know you explained it, and I already forgot it. So I just if you want to explain it again, that'd be nice. Maybe I'll retain it this time.
All right, I promised I had to make every NFL fan happy. Then I'll explain the albatra.
Okay, sounds good.
I did a deep dive. I brought in poetry and written words.
I know you guys talked about it.
It just did.
No. By the way, the best best since twenty ten is the Muppets.
O man, I'll tell you now, I'm getting it of a also of you into Monsey's home life, like growing up when her mom or dad would say to you, did you did you take the garbage out?
Oh?
Yeah, you told me? And I just forgot. I just forgot. Yeah, I just forgot.
That's what I do now, That's what I do now. Literally, who was it?
What did you ask me this today?
It was eight minutes ago? Yeah, I was at I was.
Watching Friends, all right, I was watching Friends. I don't know.
What we'll do. I but I got to make NFL fans happy. Yeah, let's go. So here's how I do.
It's it's look you think, don't make things more difficult than they need to be. Right across the NFL, Right, now NFL teams are in the middle ending.
Mandatory mini camp.
Right, you get your last look at the team beforeybody goes on vacation for the next month plus, and then we come back in the summer and all right, we get going. Don't don't put too much stock in what you see in mini camp. Right, this should be a time where, no matter what is going on with your team, be happy, be excited that football is back, because now and the next month is when hope springs eternal.
It used to be all throughout the summer.
Hey, everything is possible, But now there's not enough games to see. You can tell right away because there's more coverage of the teams than there's ever been. You know, hey, we're gonna we can have a good season, or man, we're gonna be absolutely terrible. So the pressure is on more in the summer. You want to see more. Hey, why is our quarterback struggling? Why is this happening? Right, the summer is a little bit more pressure oriented because it used to be the summer is great, and then everybody starts gripping and and getting upset and being real nervous the beginning of the season. Now is that final time quarterbacks are throwing to air. And again you can't put too much stock and quarterbacks throwing to of course they're supposed to play well. Here's the one thing. If your quarterback stink's throwing to air, you're gonna have problems. But generally, even though even though quarterback I see some quarterbacks have a little bit of trouble, they still have great moments as well, like justin fields.
So but overall, this is your.
Time where hey, everybody should look good, your your draft picks should look good. It's helmets and shorts. And if you don't, okay, it's not that big a deal. You can stress now. You can stress when you come back in the in the in the summer. Right, it's kind of like now at the end of school, where like say you're between semesters, where it's like, hey, all right, enjoy what you did this year and enjoy your summer vacation because like next year in high school, you know as you get older, things are going to get a little more difficult. You can do a junior year or high school. You take all your AP classes, the SATs come up. You know, you're starting to think about where you want to go to college, starting to think about what you know, what you need to be doing. All your extra curriculars come up. Okay, it start to get serious, but but that's in the fall. Enjoy now, Enjoy the end of your sophomore year or the end of your eighth grade year before things get more serious in high school. Enjoy the time now because there's plenty of time to get serious. You could be serious in a month and a half. For a little bit of five weeks. When when when teams come back after the mandatory mini cams. Right now, just be excited that you're that you're you're there and you're doing something together. Right so it's like, no, I'm happy, Look I have a book club. Just be happy that your team is together. Even be happy and excited in Pittsburgh because in a month you'll realize, oh man, we're stuck because Aaron Rodgers absolutely stinks. But I want to be about positive, a positive positive, positivity, positivity. Okay, okay, okay, uh okay, be excited Aaron Rodgers. Maybe things can happen. Maybe he's not gonna be skittish and throw off his back foot all the time and throw the ball before his receivers turn around cause he's gonna get sacked and doesn't want to get hit anymore. Like maybe that can happen again, but I'm gonna be positive. Positive positivity now. Positivity is what works. You can be happy, love what's happening right now. I'm sure all your draft picks look good, you know, and and and undrafted guys look good. There's the stories of camp people you're not expecting. Maybe these guys will absolutely stink in the month, but for now they're okay. Arondez Gadston uh with the with the Chargers, He's the star of camp right now. Jim Marble can't say enough about U Show, U Show, and I remember, you know a month he can't get open.
There's no separations otherwise, but.
Enjoying him now, he's a break everybody everything, breakout guys. Everybody's got breakout guys, everybody's got stars. Start enjoying it. Now should be the time where everybody is just excited, all right, As we always talk about, hope is not a strategy.
Two.
I mean, you were basically just telling everybody to start singing, dancing through life like you're hanging around the Wicked soundtrack a little bit. It's all good, everything's positive, and it is not for the front offices because now when guys leave camp, this is the nervous time, the oh yeah before training camp begin. So we got that going. But I think for the most part we got through unscathed. That other than a couple of guys that need to get scoped and looked at Anthony Richardson being one of them. Otherwise, I think we're going through the mandatory camps in okay shape. We do have questions of coupling contracts. We talked with Jason Cole a little bit earlier. You can find that in the podcast when it goes up about the Bengals and what they've got because not only have they screwed things up with their their top pass rusher, you also have their top draft choice that they tried to sneak in or sneak out some language in his contract. You know, the guy that would be the guy to replace the high price defensive end if you were to do yeah, got it crazy, But that story, you kick that downe. That's a Cincinnati problem, that's not an NFL problem, and your replace Dak Prescott's in the best shape of his life. Justin fields is the new quarterback for the Jets, Jason can unnecessarily hate on Aaron Rodgers for unfulfilled promises. Remember everybody else made the promises and picked them to go far, not Aaron Rodgers. I don't remember him saying super Bowl.
And I can love Justin Fields because while he had some great moments, he's had some horrible moments. But it doesn't matter because he's gonna run for twelve hundreds.
Switching to see some of these stats guys are sighting and against their second teamers. Look at this, he's perfect, like Behay, He's not being chased by a two hundred ninety pounds defensive live and of course he stands tall and brown and throws at seventy yards down field.
This is now that to enjoy this week, enjoy the next month, because there's plenty of time to get pissed off and be upset and realize my team sticks.
Go and enjoy your summer. Absolutely, make sure you've got a couple of fans that work. Maybe a swamp cooler, I mean, whatever you're working with, make it happen, and go have some fun. Coming up next, we got the highlight of the day, and it's very rare that we can inform, entertain and educate.
Oh, let's go and we can do something with We'll do all three of those things with what we're gonna talk about.
That's a hat trick. That's like going, you know, three hundred part that's an Xbox. That was my goal siren. Oh okay, okay. May that Schwartz be with you.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio.
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon, where we've had a lot of highlights we've talked about today clearly Game four of the Stanley Cup Final. This is gonna go down as one of the best Stanley Cup Finals last fifty years. Big stuff in Major League Baseball tonight, but maybe nothing bigger or more rare, which would be rarer than what we saw today. Day one of the US Open at Oakmont, Patrick Reid pulls off the rarest feet in golf.
Well, hold on now, holding One's happened all the time, the double eagle or albatross. This just happened.
At the fourth Patrick Reid at his second from two hundred and eighty six yards away, Unla. He doesn't even know that he dumped it out.
Yeah, well too, Patrick.
USA earlier today didn't know he had the the albatross. He had to ask the crowd did it go? And they said, yes, it went in. The albatross the rarest shot in golf. Only four times in the last forty years of the US Open have we seen that? The double eagle?
Impressive stuff, Patrick Reed, Master Champion going back to twenty eighteen. Uh for the day. You wish he'd had a couple more of these or they're that special, they would accounted for more. Yeah. Yeah, we shoot seventy three time for forty ninth without that double eagle out and you hear it, trouble might be. Yeah, I'm even worse off, right, Yeah, kind of a big deal. So we started doing the research on an albatross and what it all means.
Now loose because there's something that doesn't make sense. Okay, I always felt that doesn't make sense growing up. I always you hear the word albatross and it sounds like something negative, something dragging you down, and something that's an albatross, that's an albatross.
It's awful.
It's holding you back, it's topping you from doing things.
But in golf, it's good right now.
In albatross is a bird, Okay, it's a large seabird, highly efficient.
In the air. Nice that that was a great SNL.
Call that using dynamic soaring, slope soaring to cover great distances with little exertion. I know, that's off the top of my head. They feed on squid, fish and krill. They either scavenge, they surface seas or dive.
Right. They're colonial.
They nest for the most part and remote oceanic islands. Often several species nets together. Again, I didn't read this. I know this off you know my head.
Well, I mean you certainly know krill watching.
Yeah, the bonds between males and females form over several years, have a long courtship. But like, okay, this is albatross is sound magnificent, right, But I can't think of anything else in the world that that has a really negative meaning but also an incredibly positive meaning. Like there's words that have double meanings, you know, when you know then there's there, there and there. Okay, three different meanings.
Yeah, but like but something wearing albatross Okay, albacause you look up an albatross the dictionary, it's it's a bird, majestic bird blah blah blah. Also and it's something bad, right like. So this psychological burden often guilt or shame, that feels like a heavy weight. And it comes from a poem the rhyme of the Ancient Mariner.
Yes, off of The Iron Maiden nineteen eighty four album Power Slave. Yes, there you go, Samuel Taylor is to Midnight Aces high rhyme of the Ancient Mirrors High in the pub. So a sailor shoots an albatross and he has to wear the carcass around his neck is a punishment, and then they say that it brings bad luck to the ship's crew and the ship's efforts.
That sounds like a DC villain. Hey, hey, he wears the albatross here.
No, no, well you know the ancient mariner, ancient where's the dead bird around his neck?
Like that's the thing. Well, hey, the ancient mariner is going to come get you. All the ancient matters maris coming. Look at it's coming to get coming to get you. Well, you can get a comic version of the Ancient I don't want to read the whole poem. I just want to just want to get the comic version of the comic version. Uh, I mean, it doesn't make any sense.
It's this majestic bird and it's something great in golf, yet in.
The real way, in the literary world, in every other sense, oh it's bad. It's the worst thing in the world.
Would tell me another word that has those Now I feel like I'm on NPR.
Hey fun with words on NPR this Saturday morning.
But tell me another world do that as a space it has a great positive connotation and a really bad negative connotation.
I can't know couple with a word like that. I had a couple, but they're not safe for it.
No, no, but again, not made up words like real word like this is a real word. I wasn't going to make something curse words are made up, just so you know, was it a curse curse words to make? Because I could think of a couple of curse words going oh yeah, oh yeah, okay, all right, I guess.
It depends on your inflections. Think Roy Kent.
Sure, I hate what you've blanket done to me, But this, this is a real word, not made up. Yeah, that goes one hundred and eighty degrees one another.
No, it's sure, but it didn't save him here No, So now it's a giant weight around his neck for the rest of the turtles. So, Patrick, you were able to be ancient marriage, so you were able to do that great once, but the rest of your round sucked. So now you're cursed because they're gonna say, remember that shot. That was the shot of the turbable. What did you not a damn thing? Now it's an albatross. It helped me back. It was terrible. It was great and terrible all at once. Thank you. That's Patrick's did ye exit out? About a Fresco exit? Swollen dough? My buddy Ben Malley coming up next. This is Fox
