Up went back to his old bat for his final bat of the night in the eighth inning, and that's the bat he used when he hit the two run double to tie the game at five apiece, and Frostberg says, I'm watching the highlight. It still looks like a torpedo bat.

No, it is that the world changes every every twenty four hours, that is for sure. Uh but look when it comes to this record, right, that that Ovechkin is going to have. And you know, look, I've been a huge hockey fan my whole life. Right, this is a story that.
You used to go to games all the time with your ass friends and ESPN.
Oh man, we used to go to Whaler's game. Oh my god, Whalers games was so much fun.
You've lost in the process.
I gotta, I gotta, I gotta. I got a couple of great Whalers hockey stories for it. But the greatest game was ever that was a Whaler was a Whaler Bruins game. Oh my god, it was fantastic. But you know, I went a lot of Syracuse s Crunch games too, Islanders, Like I mean, like a big hockey fan, and this is a goal, this is a record I remember watching being set when Gretzky broke the all time goal record. I mean I remember seeing it and here's Ovechkin, who's gonna break this record, And I just kind of feel me about it. I don't have any feeling one way or another. And it's it's I don't feel political about it. That's not like, it's not that's not the case. It's not that I feel he doesn't deserve to break the record, like, oh, I want Wayne Gretzkin have all my hockey records.
Yeah, okay, that's great.
That's not how the world works, right, we see records getting broken all the time. It's not that I don't feel that that Ovechkin's deserving. The guy's gonna be the greatest goalscorer we've ever seen. You can't just back your way into nine hundred career goals. It doesn't happen that way. But he's had the decorated career, right He's he's got the heart trophies, you know, the MVP's got the first Team All NHL. He's gonna have the goal record, he's got the Stanley Cup Championship, and oh, by the way, in which he was the which he won the Consumith Trophy for Playoff MVP. Like, he's got the resume of anybody who's gonna break the record. Ovechkin clearly is a guy that you shouldn't have a lot of problems with, right. This is a guy from the sports perspective of it, hey deserves to break it. But I mean, am I gonna be excited to see history?
Yeah?
But I just can't get over the I just kind of feel about it. And again, I'm not either way, not one way or the other. And I don't know if it's because here we are now with records that records being less than they used to a little bit less than used to when you and I were growing up, and records were about everything. You know, when you see different things come into play. Maybe it's the Mitchell Report and steroids ruined it a lot for everybody because baseball records were clearly the biggest ones that we had seen. And who knows, what's you know, the damage Barry Bonds did to everybody Psyche's by breaking the home run record, and here he is, you know, and and shrouded in in ped stories. So I don't know if that's the case, but I just feel like, yeah, it's it's a it's a big story, and it's gonna be cool to see it. But I don't have a great, unbelievable feeling one way or another where I can say, oh, I can't stand this because I want Gretzky to have it. I don't feel that way. Oh I can't wait to see Ovechkin break it. I don't feel that way either. It's weird because I should feel some sort of incredible passion one way or another about this, and I just don't. And I've been asking myself this the last few days, like it's gonna happen, and it's it's gonna happen this year, like initially thought, well, maybe it happens this year. But he needs a little bit too much. He's scoring about a goal every other game, and but he's starting to heat up now because and he's smelling that record. You know, now, you're three goals away from it. He has seven games left to bring it, right, other than a lot of ice time, right, he's gonna it's gonna happen soon, right, So I've gone from hey, maybe it happens now, but now I've been like I've been dealing with it and thinking about it, and I just I can't find a way to get more than just more of a lukewarm kind of response to it. And I don't know why to be, you know, try to think about it the last few days, and I just can't really come up with anything.
Some of it for me is I think about the longevity marks like this, that they're cool, right, then you celebrate that the guy has been able to play and stay healthy and whatever the long time, because I remember being kind of mad even with the cal Ripken streak, like because there were always those questions in Septembers if if he struggled for a two week period down the stretch and the Orioles were in contentions like would it help to have.
A day or off or two?
Would that not be a good thing?

Instead of the narrative all like, damn it, he still goes to work every day, even with whatever injuries he may have been fallen him along the way, so you know, trying to weigh that and then all the way through of you know, you can the stat compilers, and maybe it's how we look at at the game a little bit that way. Maybe it's the analytics of things to where you're trying to find real meaningful stats versus you know, a goal tonight in a five to one shillacking, Right, So we look at the compilation of such maybe a little bit differently to where like yesterday, like Jokic's achievement was incredible in that double overtime game, what was the final analysis of it? Russell Westbrook screwed up and they lost. So it's a great footnote. Hey, Yokich had another great game. Guess what you lost and why Let's talk about Westbrook missing a lamp. Let's talk about the file, let's talk So like the jokicch thing is great, but it gets pushed off, right, so you know, the larger context, I think we're a little more maybe hyper aware and critical of.
It as to it.
I'm not going to dismiss it of a Haus and NHL record because that's not fair because it's still, you know, a sport that we celebrate and watch all these achievements and ovechkins, and that is now two decades We've been watching this guy go to work, and the fact that he's still achieving at a high level should be something to be celebrated. But you know, it's the the balance with the compilation of it and meaningful goals along the way, because even as you set it up earlier, it's like, wow, five to one loss, right, So it's like, hey.
It's the one bright spot that you keep working to.
I'm not going to go to the xenophobic side of it, but I'm sure there's still plenty of folks that will go that way. Even though you know, Gratzky's a Canadian, I guess we still embrace him that way. That he's saying, why Kiki Hockey on Saturday Night Live? So ve's you get to be on Saturday Night Live after breaking this record? And would he do a fifties beach themed skit?
Probably not.
You'd have to have putin on the show too. Yeah it is the shirtless with a horse. Yeah, you can just have that.
And then it would be you know that this comes out on stage. He doesn't have to do a damn thing.

But yeah, I don't know. I don't know what it is. But I kind of feel with you. I understand where you're at. It's not a an over excitement's being cool to see. However, he does it right? Is it in spectacular fashion? Is it a breakaway? I don't know what do we get? Do we get a penalty shot? Is it crazy? I mean, I just don't know. And now we got all sorts of doctors chiming in. Be curious to see when they're fully healthy, what the Mavericks can do.
