Well, as we like to say here on the show, doesn't matter if the game is good. It just matters that it's close. However, However, however, it also doesn't matter if it's snowing, so at.
Least be holidays it is, it is snowing, the flakes are big. This is not one of those times.
This is like big fat Hollywood snowflakes coming down and more and more snow.
Yeah we're here. Today's really the kickoff of the holiday season. Yeah, I know, I had relatives and friends in Chicago that we let Andy Williams sing, no Killandy williamsing. For one second, you step all over, let Andy Williams sing I'm sorry, you want to reaque?
Andy Williams right up to the right, up to the post, and then you just stepped right over it where it was my turn.
Yeah, the letter was a build up of music to my voice.
Andy Williams gets to sing, Andy Wones gets to singy Holidays. Uh, yes, ten three right now, Brown's with the lead over the Steelers, and a weird thing has just happened.
Uh.
The Steelers looked like they were gonna go for or they were gonna kick a field goal on fourth and one, uh down around the twenty yard line of the Browns. However, Uh it was right around that time where the snow flurries really intensified, and so Chris Boswell stays on the sideline. The Steelers run a rollout for Russell Wilson, who completes it to Pad Fryarmouth, who gets a first out. Now the Steelers have first and ten at the Browns fourteen yard line, down a touchdown. I really, I don't know the last time I've seen snow in that short amount of time. Effect A coaching says, all right, go kick it. Wait, wait, come back, come back, come back. We're gonna throw it instead. Wait what, Yes, We're gonna throw.
They can't roll out, they can't. I mean, this is the game is close, it's not great, and it's snowing. And so Russell got buried on that roll.
You have three things you got. You got a not great game, you got close, and you have snowing. So those two two out of like.
TJ like Meatloaf would say, two out of three, ain't bad. It's got a meat Loaf weather too. It is well, it's a nice hot summer night on the and the beach was burnt. Two different things rolling over the sand. There's none of that. I was actually talking about meat Loaf the dish as opposed to oh you a late great we need it, as opposed to the late great singer songwriter meat Loaf, an actor, of course, master Thespian. He was Eddie.
He was ed riding the motorcycle up and down. The stairs about that it was. That was a big house they pulled up to and Rocky horror picture shows.
He learned how to how to roll up and down those steps. But I mean this is fantastic theater in a way. And I mean, like I said, it's big flaky snow. This is like fun snow and it's gone from it. Halftime there were some swirling flour I would say, do my best weather, some swirling flurries, not a lot of accumulation. And now it's like whoa, Now it's you can see the flakes. It looked like big flies flying in front of the screen and camera like it's like it's I don't want to say Lord of the Flies. It's not the right thing. Bugs show up and stuff.
Yeah, like if there was a horror movie where June bugs came and killed everybody, I mean it's got to be not we should.
Yeah, like it like one just gotta be a horror Cicada film.
Oh well, I think it's probably called Cicada, but I mean the June bugs are so scary and they're so dope.
I mean it's called just called Cicada.
No, I mean the June bugs coming and there's a radio active june bug and it comes out and it mates with the other june bugs. They become radioactive and then they attack.
And then they fight Godzilla.
Uh no, we need like a Godzilla to come in and like and like, that's that's what we get to come and get rid of the june bugs.
Right, yeah, no, but that's what it escalated. But he would fight. No, Godzilla would fight for us. So they're either on Skull Island or whatever that's King Kong. And then we worked well, but they eventually battled.
But Godzilla never lived on king on Skull Island. That would be rebe reports. Where did they meet in the middle of the ocean? There you go, big fight, middle of the ocean. They're both tall enough to stand in the middle of the ocean.
Is it too deep?
Oh?
Can I get a full thrust on my punch?
It's ten to three right now. Steelers have the ball inside the Browns fifteen yard line. Time out on the field, and it's moments like this when certainly everything that happens on national television gets a lot more of attention. But we kind of talked about this last night. Is that as great a coach as Mike Tomlin is and has been in the NFL for a while. The team has been competitive every single year. What they don't finish under five hundred, they make the playoffs. But the fact that the Steelers have been bent on this is the offense we want to run like any other coach who wants to run an offense where we're just gonna give the ball to a couple of average running backs at best. The entire game rely on a quarterback who is average at best and have a great defense win like Mike Tomlin needs an intervention, like, dude, you can't win like this in twenty twenty four. You can win some games in the regular season, maybe you can squeak out one playoff with made, but you're going home because other teams know. The formula is, we need to make sure our offense is good. We can throw the ball downfield. We have to be able to win any kind of game. Steelers can't do that. And the reliance and and the and the loyalty that Mike Tomlin has had for Russell Wilson throughout this entire time since they got him. Oh now, Russell Wilson, Now, Russell Wilson is showing you he's washed. He's just a guy. He got lucky that it was the Jets and the Giants when he first came into play, and both those teams stink. So, all right, what do we have go out? Russell Wilson's great. Russell Wilson is watched, you see him tonight. You can't really move the team downfield. They can't run the football. Tomlin's reliance on Naujie Harris for the last four years baffles me because how how you are so reliant on a guy who is a jag who does he hasn't even averaged four yards to carry for his career. I mean that that that the Steelers think they can win with this kind of offense. Still, it makes me think, has the game? Has the game passed Mike Tomlin by? Because I know that the Steelers want to win one way, But you can want to win one way all you want.
You're trying to win the Super Bowl.
I mean, if you I'd rather Mike tom and just look, our goal is to make the playoffs and keep our fans happy. And we're good every year, and in the conversation and we lose opening wildcard weekend, and maybe we don't get in and I get really mad, and we talk about winning again next year. But I'm watching the Steelers play here. If this is any other team playing like this, it's what is your offensive plan? How did it come to this? How is the coach still the coach when this is the plan he wants to put out there? I mean, this is an offense from nineteen seventy seven. It's like it's like Nausei Harris is Franco Harris and Jalen Warren is Rocky Blyer. They don't have Swan and Stalworth and Bradshaw, but they have that great defense. Okay, so not a great comprayer, but it's still offense from nineteen seventy seven.
Yeah, it's a difficult watch, There's no question about it. And certainly you can point to you, hey, Russell Wilson's near perfect on the night. We all short intermediate passes, not taking shots downfield and dinking and duncan from the rushing side of it. To your point, Najee Harris is a three time thousand yard rusher averaging three point nine yards of carry. Again, move the chains, keep it on, but it's all low scoring. Right. Last week was your perfect example Boswell goes six, gives you six field goals, there's your entire offense. How many games you're gonna win against good teams when that is the case. And it goes to the argument we in discussion we were having last night as the Hall of Fame, you know, top twenty five come out with Eli Manning, like, if we're gonna keep talking about super Bowls, it's a long time ago since he won one. And it doesn't take away from the you know, winning streak. It's all cool, right that he's got this. He's never had a losing season. That's all funny, good, But where's the standard?
Right?
The standards has always been what do you do in the playoffs? And do you win in the playoffs? And then we just decide we're gonna move those goalposts depending on how much we like a guy in the sound bites. And Tom Win's a hell of a coach, there's no question about it. Can't win on Thursday night. Here's another opportunity as we close out the third quarter. Here the field looks great, it's still down ten to six as Cleveland gets the ball back, but it's it's just to that point, like there's no dynamism here. Even with a guy like Pickets, you go out and acquire Mike Williams, and yeah, I'll take the swirling wins and snow to a degree, but it doesn't take away from the first eleven weeks of the season. And what we've seen go back to win justin fields was quarterbacking and through and for the last several years, it's the we're gonna still run the football, we're still gonna play great defense, and then we're gonna wish in hope that we scored just enough points. And that's not a strategy.
No.
Again, in nineteen seventy seven through nineteen eighty five, it kind of was you could kind of win that way, and then the West Coast offense shows up in the late eighties with the forty nine ers, and suddenly, oh, you really need an electrifying offense. You'd be able to throw the football down the field and win. I mean, I get this as a throwback to when we were all that eight We were all growing up and seeing unning backs were always your first couple of picks in fantasy. I'm drafting three running backs in the first three rounds. Then I'm gonna come back and draft another running back and then I'm gonna go five running backs. It's gonna be five running back strategy before I even take your quarter.
Wow.
That was And then they added the PPR and it all went to hell from there.
Yeah, we have thought I've thought about PPR, but you and me both but that But that's the whole what people fail to understand about the Steelers because you can point to, oh, if they're winning, yeah.
But this is the Steelers every year. Steelers, every year.
They this is a regular season offense where you can win when you have a great defense and you can give just enough offense. But when is it okay to be happy winning with just enough offense? I mean, it shouldn't be. It shouldn't be a oh, this is how we want to win games, all right. Well, I get that. If something happens to your team and you have to win this way, right your your starting quarterback is out for the year, and you find out your backup is not up for it, you have to adjust your strategy. Okay, we need to win this way because that's the only way we can because of the personnel that we have. But this is a choice we're choosing every year to put this offense out the we're choosing to go bargain basement hunting for a quarterback where we could have Hey, we didn't work with Kenny Pickett. Now we're gonna try to get a bargain and Justin Fields and a bargain and Russell Wilson. We're not gonna get any wide receivers to coming. No, no, no, we're gonna we're gonna fact get rid of one of the guys whoso is a big start. Now we're gonna do all of these things. And like they still think that this is the way they can win. They can And I don't understand how this passes for a successful strategy.
Now, as a guy who is the do as I say, not as I do kind of guy, in this respect, the work smarter, not harder. Why make it harder to navigate a seventeen game schedule and eventually the playoffs by hamstringing yourself, tying one hand behind your back. Yeah, put them up, put them up. I mean that's basically what you're doing. You're going cowardly lion hand behind the back, challenging people to fight. I mean, that's what you're doing each and every time. And here with your defense you've been rolling through. You don't have high Smith playing today. Fortunately you went and made the trade for Preston Smith. They've done a pretty good job, right. It limited the Browns to ten points, So it's not like you're getting getting beat up and all of those things chubbed with the touchdown for you fantasy owners. But you're also banking on the fact that TJ. Watt's gonna stay healthy the rest of the way. You got seventeen games from him last year. Guess what else he ever played seventeen games in a season.
Never.
It's just so you're already in bonus territory there, and we know historically the wins and lost percentages there, so why wouldn't you build the other side of the ball to build in for those kind of circumstances. It just it's confusing again appreciation of what Mike Tomlin is and what he's done and all of those things, but we can still raise our hand and ask questions about why you take this path, because who any other coach puts out an offense like this and sticks to the strategy and says, yes, this is what I believe in. It's this guy's gotta go this. This guy absolutely has to go because you can we can't win this way. But because it's Mike Tomlin. Oh yeah, he really knows.
And he was ready to love, patting himself on the back, and he went to Russell Wilson, Look, look out, good our team. Okay, you've played a couple of the worst teams in the NFL. Now look where you are, Russell Wilson, you're I know it's snowing, but this is Steelers weather. And he looks awful. He's got he's can't hold onto the football. He's throwing bad past. I mean, he's he's done, he is done. But yet Mike Tomlin's gonna prop him up. And he's the greatest thing we've ever seen, I mean, any other coach, it's this guy's gotta go.
Let me ask one other question of this. Miles Garrett's kind of kind of good, right, kind of good. How do you not scheme up your offensive line and chipping at least.
Just what he'll be expecting them to do when you don't block him. They're expecting him to slip and fall on the snow. That's what that's the strategy. Interior really slippery on just let him fall do don't block him, maybe he'll fall down.
That'll work. He's gonna move too fast and be confused.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. That's eleven twenty five tonight. What do you want to see? Purple Rane?
Maybe? Ohka? Is it playing somewhere at night? You made it seem like there's a midnight showing a purpose. I thought I'd go do karaoke and just start singing that no matter what anybody else was doing. Command attention in the back of the room, A right, okay by leading an impromptu sing along Nick Cage style.
How often, okay, serious crash? How often do you get over served at karaoke? I haven't been to karaoke in almost two years. Actually over sirved?
I mean okay, all right, I mean from a technical standpoint versus actually altered. Okay, Like from a technical standpoint, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you could probably you know, find the meter and find me as to whether I'm altered and really acting out of sorts.
That's a very rare occurrence, very rare. So hey, hey, say hi to Harmony. He am out doing purple rain.
I'll lead everybody in the seventh inning stretch.
Let me hear you, Mike, and I going to give you our upset special picks in the NFL coming up in a couple minutes. But since it is an E Cup night in the NBA Cup, it's called a cup. Since it is an E Cup night. The biggest story coming into tonight once again Zion Williamson. Not only is he to continue to be out for the Pelicans, but according to ESPN, he is quote not close to a return to action. Sham's having this story earlier in the day today. He's been out since he strained his hamstring on November sixth, and it's going to be an extended period of time longer. He has now missed of a possible four hundred and one regular season games of his NBA career four hundred and one. He has now missed two hundred and eleven of a possible four hundred and one regular season You.
Got to stay over fififty percent, fel now, let me do that, man, It's easy math.
I could have done that crap, you know, mich in Northwestern I got stuff at bench.
I can do that.
I'd let me do the easy math thing so I can seem smart for a second. Quiet numb skulls, I'm broadcasting he has missed over fifty percent of his games. Yeah, the Pelicans crazy right away. The Pelicans like that. Yeah, now exactly what's what's the percentage?
Good? What I didn't I thought you a smart math guy? What is marts?
Math guy? That's you gotta say? That is fifty three point two four seven one percent of the game. Un Let someone else decide to it if you were lying or not. You must be true.
Now there's gonna be that one nerd out there who's got his phone out and he's wrong. I was able to figure out that. I am able to ascertain that he was talking trying to do the math. It's bad. Fact is old math classes at Northwestern. But look, it's it's an absolute shame. Because zion Will came in, it's missed opportunities for him, it's missed opportunities for the NBA. He came in and he was going to be Shaquille O'Neal. He was gonna be it.
He was gonna be the next great big man in the NBA with a different skill set that was going to take us by storm. But how many how many years do we have to see this to understand his body just isn't cut out for the rigors of basketball. He's been hurt every going back to his senior year of high school when he was playing AAU schedules. He was hurting high school. He's hurt at Duke every year in the NBA, this throughout his career.
He just can't do it well. Year, just can't do it. We thought we finally had gotten there, and then they're going to the play. Oh yeah, and I've played seventy plus games all those things. Look everything's he's like a pogo stick because it was the big man without being a big man, right like you know definition of big as you're going through. But the body breaking down once again. I do like and really do enjoy the the thought pieces of you know what, he'd looked good as a Laker, like that'd be fun for when he was available. You can't you get kissed if you can't.
Even with a lot of players now in the NBA, it's we are across our fingers and hope when they do miss time, it's early in the season and they're back their injury that we know they're going to get, whether it's Lebron or ad it just got.
To okay, is it early enough? And then hey, it's kind of a break for them, and they come back and they're a little bit fresher at the end of the year. You gotta hope that the injury bug, when it hits you, hits you fortuitously, right, because you know what's gonna hit you. Gotta don't.
You don't want to hit to you two weeks before the playoffs start or anything else, right, you want hit fortuitously.
But with Zion, it's you just never. He's at this point, he's just never going to be healthy, all right. I mean, the guy's been in the league. This is his fifth year in the league, and yes, last year regular season was great and then boom, playoffs came in. Now Here, he starts the season and he can't stay on the court. And it's not anybody's fault. It's not his fault.
It's just he's big. And and when he came into the league, I remember Imber saying, boy, the only thing that really question marks that scares me is his weight. Not that he's gonna suddenly balloon and get you know, oh, now the guy's four hundred and seventy five pounds. No, but it's said someone that big that moves like him, Generally it's harder to stay healthy because the soft tissue injuries really pile up. And for Zion, there's nothing they've tried with lower minutes, they've tried differently, And this is just what it is. And this is just what Zion's career is going to be. He's gonna be in and out of the lineup until the team decides to not pay him until his maximum extension runs out in New Orleans and they go, okay, we got to move on to something else. And he tries to go someplace else and restart his career. But it's going to be like this. I mean, you can't ever at any point think, okay, now he's gonna get healthy. Look the old Jimmy Johnson line. Guy gets hurt once you look forward to his return. Guy gets hurt a second time. You hope he can help you. Guy gets hurt a third time, and that's done.
You move on, all right? This is this is the sixth time. This is the sixth and this.
Is in the NBA, you know, going back to college, and this is the seventh or eighth time, Like this is just what's going and it's awful and it's a shame. But really that's what his career is gonna be. He's gonna be in and out of the lineup until the Pelicans the contract runs out. He'll try to go someplace else. Maybe he'll bounce around to a couple of teams. It's going to be my body just didn't cooperate. But the rigors of the NBA were just too difficult.
I mean something. It comes down to choices made right and discipline and all of those kind of things that we all are plagued with on some level or another. Whatever it might ear. Vice may be. For Zion, he's a guy that puts on weight and trying to play this game doesn't work. By way of contrast, you know, contrast here as John morant is twenty nineteen draft classmate who's always been very narrow and slight. Forget about his off field or off court stuff for a moment. He's a guy that physically the style of basketball he plays, he not staying on a court either. So for both of them, they're running in parallel, and it's too bad because there were two guys that were destined to become the next Let's talk about these guys at every turn, every game, every bit of heroism on the court, and we watch Jaw make a big athletic play. Earlier this year he has been back on the court, and for Zion, now they're saying it's indefinite once again, not not even a hey, we get a reevaluated in a week or any of those nonsense things we talk about. It's gonna get a reevaluation in seven to ten days, which means, all right, we'll see him in three weeks at a minimum night and in this case may In this case, who the hell knows. It's rough because when you're watching the New Orleans Pelicans, you want to talk about, Hey, I can't tell the lineup without a scorecard. I can't tell the one there's Brandon Ingram I know him. And then let's guess.
Exit out by a Fresca exit swollen dome. Jason Smith Mike Harmon Live from the tyrec dot Com Studios. More NBA on the way so far on an ecup night, because thumping the Nuggets sixty three forty six. Steve de Saga will have more on this than a few and what's trending? But time for Mike and I. We do it every single week, we give you our upset special picks of the week in the NFL.
I'm putting my fifteen and five right on the line.
Come on now, and I'm gonna do something one of my picks. I'm doing something I shouldn't do, but I feel it. No, it's not Cleveland.
Stop. Uh they played last night, Tysher. I already got that one. Remember I took the plus three and a half. Good man, this guy?
Uh, I am going to take your Chicago Bears getting four crazy over Minnesota. Chicago's defense is pretty good, no matter what you want to say about the team and how they've been blowing games. And yes, the hail Mary play was bad and last week the blockfield goal, but Chicago's defense overall is pretty bleeping good. And Sam Darnold is kind of slowly coming back to earth. He had an okay game last week. The week before was really bad. He's not the same guy he was the first four weeks, right, He's the guy I kind of expected him to be the last seven or eight weeks, Chicago will continue to bring him back to earth. The rush will get to Donald, and this is Donald, but you don't want to see it when he has to make quick decisions in the pocket and throw the football. This is when Donald struggles when he can't go to his first read and his options just to say, where's justin? Where's doping to throw it to you? That's not a formula for great. That's how Doug.
Peterson sounded like when they were talking about that game. I don't think the Vikings can run it well enough to make up for that. And I'll tell you what. Caleb Williams is kind of in a stop and go getting it like he looks really great, then he'll regress, then it'll look really good and regress. But he's still moving forward enough for me that I like it. I'm gonna as long as he keeps running the ball a little bit more. And they seem like they are bent on having him get outside the pocket with some design runs seventy yards rushing last week. Gimme Chicago to bring Minnesota and Sam Donald back to Earth. Getting four points get you Sam Donald multiple touchdowns three of his last four and you look at the Bears can't run the football against this squad. That's gonna be the big thing. How do they solve that number two rush defense? Matt Suey from your lips to God's Ears, one of the greatest of all time, Old number twenty six, Atlanta, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Cincinnati and your Jets all on a bye, the Bikoppolis as they call it. I am going to take the New England Patriots plus seven and a half. Miami's not seven and a half points better than anybody. New England playing wow lately, dra and say, well, they stink Jalen Wattle have you seen him lately? Ask his fantasy owners no, because they haven't either one game above fifty yards since Week one. This is where if Miami's run game can get going, Sure, maybe some good things happen. Forty six and a half is your total, but plus seven and a half, I'll take the New England Patriots and what Drake may has been putting down more Kendrick Bourne, all of that fun stuff, and the defense is good enough to slow down that Miami offense.
I shouldn't do this because for a long while this team was my only loss of the season, my upset special? Are you going back to the world. Remember I started thirteen and two. My only loss was this team.
But I think Timmy's down the well on the set said Sting was singing.
But give me the Rams getting three and a half against the Eagles, just like the Yankees, the lazy Eagles stigma lives. You can only start so many games by playing so bad in the first half and then save it in the second half. The Rams are starting to come on. Matthew Stafford's starting to get on a heater. If they play like this in the first half against the Rams are gonna be hind by a couple of touchdowns and it's going to be really hard to get out from under that. Sean McVay is going to find a way o Look, first of all, he's always going to find a way to out coach Nick Sirianni. I'm always going to take Sean McVay over Nick Sirianni in this. But this is a bigger game for the Rams. The the Eagles have kind of been existing on playing half a football. It's not going to continue. Matthew Stafford on beginning his second half heater, just like he started last year. Give me the Rams. I'm not gonna need the points because the Rams are gonna win on the field, but give me the Rams getting.
Three in it had no DeVonta Smith in this one.
They'll slow Barkley down enough. That'll be the big game plan is that, Hey, we're gonna make Jalen Hurts beat us because obviously that everything flows through Saquon Barkley. They will slow him down enough to make Hurtz beat them. It won't be enough.
There you go, Hey, Sunday Night Football Live from so Far, followed by Monday Night Football Live from so Far. I am gonna take the Indianapolis Colts plus seven at home with Detroit coming to town. This is the one non conference get a.
Little crazy here that they just keep going in on Anthony Richardson because he beat the Jets.
That it's that weird again. That's what I'm looking for because because you come back in short order, you got to play the Bears, and you look at the back end of their schedule, a lot of conference, a lot of division, all of that stuff still ahead. That Anthony Richardson just dangerous enough to do uh do some damage Taylor uh and the wide receiving cord that it's big play or bust and against the Detroit secondary. You can find that now and again and Richardson lastly, look it's the Jets. Obviously you take everything with a colossal uh grain of pink Himalayan salt.
Uh.
But I'm gonna look at him just to mess around enough. Look I'm getting seven at all, that's a lot of points. I'll take the home dog getting seven.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific.

Who's the documentary?
Like? So, but the thing was Brett Michael Kitty because he you know, I don't know if I told you guys the story. So Mike tomlin Son Mason is uh, he lives out here now and I have known Mason's he was, you know, three or four years old, and he's gotten new music. He wraps his R and B. He says said Brett, it needs to do be fair man. And he used to come, We're gonna go so Malibu. Me, you and Mike tomlin Son, Mason, you're a diehard Stealer fan. Well, Mike tomlin Son, Mason opened for Brett Michaels and Pittsburgh July fifteenth. But that's like, listen, royalty is a dying art. You the art of loyalty is doing things for people. He just you one thing to return. You're like, hey, how can I help others? How could I be of service to my friends and my brothers? And what can I do? And you know, you ha No. My relationship Mike Tomlinson twenty some years ago and Mace I loved me. She had such a solid kid, and like this is I just want to learn how trying to get him the cut corners. I just wanted to learn from the best. And knowledge did he learn? He meant? He he made such an impression, so he actually opened for Brett. I'd think in five four or five shows.
Now, wow, is he still gonna open for it now even after they lost a night?
Or is Brett Michael that as results?
Then I took Brett to Steelers training camp this year and he was like, like, mind you last time he's been a Steels training camp. His dad took him and they sat on the other side of the fence when he was a little kid. So he was like, oh my god. But the funniest thing was me and Mike Tomlin and Brett went to his bar in what Trope called Dino's. And you got the head coach of the Steelers there and the whole staff Danny Smith, Arthur Smith roll there, and then Brett Michael's there. Nobody can give two craps about Mike tom on j was Bret Michael taken care? Let this dude out of line out the door? So yeah, it's pretty cool though, man, just having these guys. He had taken bread or massive, but we ought to. Yeah, we had a we had to have a uh a little uh. We we had to have a group hugged for bread after his Steelers lost.
Hey, so what'd you take away from that. Tonight in the snow, the Browns come back from win after it looked like.
Well, here's a couple of things. Number One, people were asking and saying, oh, like Kivi Stefanski to lose his job? Are you guys out of your mind? Like are you kidding me? What the owner has handcuffed him with over there? This guy is a he has done it the right way and like he's learned step by step by step by step. I met Kivi's Stefanski. Originally he was Brad Childrens, who's assistant, like his executive assistant when his head coach of the Vikings. But he he he was like word every step. But he's a great offensive mind. He's a I think it's like for you to even talk about firing an offensive mind like that when he's not the issue clearly, you know, two time coach of the Year, and you hamsterring him with this contract, you hamstring with him and and the rest of the moves he makes. I think it's absolutely absurd. And Jamis cracks me up. I trained Jamis like three years ago and unbreakable, and so I'm not a lot of guys he like I look at him, and you know he comes in with all this this crazy stuff and his crazy talks and this and that. He brings the own coach and I said, no, no, you coach got to sit over here. Man, I'll get to this stuff with you. I said, Jamis, we're gonna our whole point of the way we train it unbreakable. We're gonna make it the hardest thing you've ever done to make too poll easy. I got you. So I'm like, we're gonna break this guy in two seconds. And I love I love it, Like guys you can break. Yeah. Yeah, he's cracking up. But that's my goal of like I'm gonna try and break you, hoping that I can't break you and then build you up. I dude, we put Jamis through more than we put most people through because of all crazy other hands. No matter what we did, we could not break him. That dude can work. And we man, we shared the hell out of Jamis too. And he just kept taking it, kept taking it, kept taking it, kept taking it. And I'm like, oh, okay, I understand why this guy was no drafted worry. But you know there's so much other stuff. I think that certain guys like James want to be a brand too, and they want to like you know, they want all the other stuff that comes in with it. But at the core of it, I'm telling you we cannot break him. And he worked his tail off. So in the end, when you just go back to who you are, when it's work ethic, when there times are tough, that guy should rise up. And it happened.
Well, that's the thing we were talking about a little bit, Jay. I mean, look, I agree with me to the talk of Stepansky losing his job as absurdity, but it is Jimmy Haslam, which means a lot of teams would clamor in a second, but.
Absolutely yes, right, the thing like, look, we talked about like I've talked to you guys about culture, Woody Johnson, but we'll never win. He's the issue they'll never win. Jimmy has them probably never gonna win. He's the issue Dan Snyder never would have won. He's the issue you know where missus Ford was great, but she's like, you know what, I realized the cultures me, right, I don't know what it is. Let me bring in Chris Spielman to be that the aison from the president of the team to have a different culture, and that's when things started changing, and he helped hire Dan Campbell and their general manager is just like man. But when the owner doesn't realize the owner is the issue, you're never going to win. It starts with culture. Jimmy Haslam is a huge part of that problem. Woody Johnson is the main problem. And it's just how it ends. Like again, guys, you know, like I think I've told you, like was Sean Payton. I was with him when he got the safe job and there was no worse culture and they just and credit like the owner just didn't know any better. If Sean went in wiped out about eighty percent of the building and taught him how to be an owner, and now they regardless of their record, there are top night, not top play organizations. But you got to teach owners how to be owners. And a lot of these owners and I've got really, really, really start conversations with them just because you've made buildings and somewhere else I said, you know, I'm same conversation with all these owners. Will you have Mike Tomlin or Andy Reider, Bill Belichick run your business? Oh no, totally different? Okay, then why do you think you could make a second round pick to let your football people do it? But that's the problem with the Woody Johnsons and the Jimmy Haseles. We're going to jump in and play fantasy football and try and find people and ask you to draft people, and it just will never work.
Jay Glazer, our guest, the Jason Smithson with Mike Carmen Lifrom Thetirec dot Com Studios. All right, Jay, So, since this seems to be the theme of the last day or so when it comes to NFL insiders, you wait in on this on Twitter.
You know, I'm sure you've broken some You never asked.
Me about this, You're really asked me about this kind of.
Have to how's Rosie looking at you?
Okay?
Because you know what I want?
What's the question?
Well, I was what I was gonna say was gonna.
I was gonna I was gonna warm you up to it because when this story broke yesterday, I said, I always flashed back to when I was watching you open Unbreakable and you did the You're doing an interview with local Fox TV, a Fox eleven, and they asked you a question and you had your phone in your hand and and you you you you couldn't listen. You said, oh sorry, guys, I just had to. And I forget what news you broke?
You said here here, I was breaking that the Browns who were in for the playoffs were benching your cornerback and going with Johnny Manziel. That's what it was. But they couldn't find Johnny to let him know.
What. Oh yeah, that sounds right.
Yeah, and then they saw him front row the uh the Cleveland basketball game.
Oh my god, that's broken. I mean, why you're doing this interview? Hey on breaking will tell us about the gym all this? Oh no, he I got news.
For you right here.
And I got around like, wow, Jay's really he does break news everywhere, Jay Glazer, that's insane.
We were actually we're showing you a cryo chamber, which now everybody has. We were the first team I think in America have a cryo chamber. So we were showing people that, and then yeah, I got breaking news that we're going Johnny Manziel. He's gonna be our starter. But I don't even think he knows. We can't find him. So that's that broke. Yeah.
I can imagine the people on Fox. I don't know what any of this is. Just say thank you to Jay and say goodbye.
All right, thank you?
What where is this question leading?
I was just gonna say, if you had an alternate, weirdest place you've ever broken news before?
Because I know you know where, where are you trying to? Where where you lead news?
I'm leaving to a really weird alternate place that was thrown out yesterday that you may have broken yesterday.
I don't know what that means.
He's gonna make you say it, so, Adam Schefter, I.
Doesn't know what you're talking about, Adam, all right, all right, all right?
Instead, how about this, how about you.
Telling me say it but your audience doesn't know what you're talking about?
O Ken Adam Schefter, ESPN insider said yesterday he once broke big news after having sex with a woman.
He went on a podcast and said that you quote kid.
You Coote tweeted that and said, well who hasn't And I was like, okay, well, and Jay comes on tomorrow night, maybe Rosie is around. Maybe, but I'm gonna ask him say any kind of weird place that sticks out to you where you broke news?
Well, so I've actually told the story on Boston radio and it's it's exactly what Adam's talking about. I broke the store. I was in Arizona for the Russell will some Marshawn Lynch, Patriots camps okay, and oh Man, how am I'm not get in trouble here. So Tony and Donalds's driver like basically the Limo companies that week, I like all these models and Cody's like, man, you got to meet my driver. She's just like models, unbelievable, like your uper drivering is like the Limo company. Oh Man, time to eat her and weeklick and the next day at my hotel, I get in the afternoon, I get the final the third you know, I need the three sources when I'm going to break a story. And we are about to have our greatest time ever, and like we're a second away, and all of a sudden, my third source comes in, Hey, we found we have video of the Patriots of their equipment guys in the flate gate taking the balls into a bathroom for ninety seconds or whatever. And we got there. We're going. So it's a you know, like this is who the league is heard on. So I'm like, oh my god. I said, hey, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta step away here for a second. And you know, I hold this late date story. She's like, no, I don't, and she's like, we want to talk about the flating. I stepped away and broke this story at the most inopera time inopportunity time in the history of life, and the Patriots were flying in when I broke it, and the Patriots thought I intentionally held it for when they're flying in to get the biggest bangs of the bucks. And I'm like, not only did I not hold it, there couldn't have been a worse time in the history of life to break this story. I mean, that couldn't have come at a worse time ever in the history of life. So yeah, breaking scope, man, it's it's uh it uh you say love conquers all, well, no it doesn't.
He is the one and only.
Did I did I get canceled telling this to I don't know how to tell it Rightford, like, didn't tell it just because I'm killed from the Patriots mediat the super Bowl and they're like you intention I said, let me tell you something, and I say, the girl was like sending pictures of like next like in the bed over there, like, hey, that's where you're missing out on Mom Patris Radio, Michael Polly and Michael Feld whatever I forget. And I'm like, you guys think I intentionally held it. This is what I was fun to do. And I was showing them the picture on their radio show like you the guy intentially held it instead of this. They like, ooh our best yeah, oh yeah, we should have back. I'm like, yeah, thank you. Guys are killing me, Like, man, it's what I'd like. That's the worst time I can ever break a story in my life.
Nouestions. That is a story, that is a that is an absolute story.
Hey, speaking of stories, do not repost this story.
No, we're not. Don't worry, we won't. We will.
Ros is gonna be like you're a jack off.
Yeah all right, hey tell us unbreakable pope.
Right wait wait wait wait real real quick. I used to though, like back in the day, I would take when those when the uh when the like back in the day, you don't have like like we don't have bluetooth or anything like that. Remember remember the old speaker there attached to your old like Nikia phone or whatever you're called. Yeah, like like draped around your right you're down and and your mouth. So I would actually go to like restaurants I date this up and I would wrap it around my chin and act like I am like whispering sweet nothing to whoever I'm with when I'm really on the phone with like gms and head stoches and all this stuff, because you couldn't be on the phone in these restaurants. So yeah, it's it knows no vowves man's And I'll tell you another really really quick twenty one is I was refereeing my son's doccer game. He was like five and Beverly Hills, and I had this big scoop ande call. So I'm on the phone in the middle of like refereeing my kid's game, and my son's like, Dad, can you please make scoop and calls and call this game? And Mike Perreira happen to be there just to come watch my son. I was like, hey, Mike, can you come out here and do this Please's like, I got scoop and calls, that's to bake, can you referee it? And Mike Prayer jumps in and referee my my son's soccer game and he was five. Wow, so I can go make these stupid stalls.
That's the guy to fell In. You had one of the best history of the game, referee you.
But it doesn't. It doesn't. It doesn't. The best part is when I went training with like Chuck Withell and Randy Getur. I would tell my god, stam be training with Chuck or Rady like one of three. If you have any scoops, this is the time to call me because I could use any break I can get. And you have like these Armenian guys. But like Jay, Mike Dumblin's calling you. Oh thank god.
He is the one and only Jay Lazer. That is absolute truth. Hey, I don't want to let you go before tell me a little bit. You had Tony Stewart on your Unbreakable podcast this week and it looks amazing.
