And here we are, Mike Carman, the first big must see series World Series rematch. It two of the greatest teams in the history of Major League Baseball, and I got something big on both of these teams. But just for a second, let's just appreciate here's a great, huge series at the end of May that coast to coast everybody's gonna tune.

It is it is they are relentless with you.
It's like I don't want to turn my phone on, going, what am I gonna get today? Some crazy ass story about a fan, going, Oh, here's why Jan Soto isn't as good as Ben Rice? Right, all of this crazy ass stuff, right, But I do have to say this, I am. I am really scared of the Yankees. The Yankees, it feels like they haven't even areted playing yet. They've had so many injuries. It only feels like Aaron Judge is the one guy playing well, even though look, they have other guys hitting well.
Goldschmit's been pretty good, but it.
Doesn't feel like they have lots of other players who have really stepped up, right, Like, you got Judge and Goldsman. Okay, that's great, but you know Bellinger kind of me. Andrew he's got thirty two RBIs but he's kind of meandering. And Ben Rice has hit home runs, but he's hitting two forty. Yeah, he doesn't feel like it. But all of a sudden, here they are with all of their injuries, all of their pitching injuries, and here they are at thirty five and twenty, a top three record overall in Major League baseball, Like you got Rodin and Freedom been carrying this rotation right Their whips are both under one, their wars are near three already as pitchers the yanke I don't feel like the Yankees have really gotten started yet, and they're not playing their best baseball and they're not healthy yet. But here they are right now, and they're at the top of the a least now. Granted, their division is terrible. Okay, this is the worst baseball right It is the worst division in baseball.
And this is something because's like.
Wait a minute, yeah, no, I know, I know. We have other divisions that are usually really bad. They're usually the centrals, but not this year. This is a really bad division. The Orioles have completely fallen apart so of the Red Sox. The Blue Jays are a five hundred team, so is Tampa. Like, this is a bad division, but I can't fault you for winning the vast majority of your games and having the third best record in baseball, having a top three record depending.
On the day.
The Yankees scare me a bit because they again, they feel like they haven't even played, like they're playing at seventy five percent, and here they are, you know, already in the position where they could be running away with the al East.
Well, you know me, I'm I'm the biggest fan of Carlos Shorgan, going back to his time with the White Sox everything else. But what's a historical inevitability. He's gonna spend some time on the il before it's all said and done. That's just the way it goes. He's got twelve starts, seven and three record. You know, you got all the advanced metrics on war and everything else that he's put up. But beyond he and Reid, what is there in that pitching run that that scares you. You got a bunch of guys, and that doesn't mean they won't go and make some additions. As we get closer and closer to the trade deadline, right, all the more protests about we're not trading Paul Skins. I just think it's funny because we get to keep saying his name. He'll end up with someone who is it. Photo shopping went into a hat and the best, the best likeness, most seamless transition into a new uniform wins a prize. But that being said, they will be in the marketplace for another arm or two as we get going the batting order, still waiting for more consistency from Volpe and Domingus, guys that have come up through the organization, a lot of fanfare, a lot of expectations, and they show up now and again, but the consistency hasn't been there. Rice a nice story is certainly he's a guy that if you were following all the lines today, is he the guy that connects with Gonsolin? Is he the guy that's gonna have the big game going in today? But yeah, I think they're a work in progress, which needs to be noted when you're fifteen games above five hundred and nine and one in their last ten and nobody in that division looks like they're gonna be able to right the ship. I mean, the Ordels beat the White Sox today to to one, yay, But there are there are a squad there.
What do you always say the long road begins with a single step.

Hundred games to figure it out. I'm thinking you're still gonna have a giant riddler suit question mark for most of those squads as we go forward. Because there were big expectations that the Red Sox, we would turn things around. The Blue Jays, we laugh at the Rays and the fact that they don't spend any money, but what do they do? They win ninety games a year. Well, this doesn't look like that that team's going to do that this year. So for the Yankees, I can't wait to see what the additions are. But in the interim we get to watch Goes. I can completely wait, and I hope there's none because I don't I don't want to hear it. I don't want to share the backpage that. I don't want to do that none. But I get what you're saying. But I can absolutely wait. I can hope there's nothing. I can open the deadline they decide, you.

Right, So a little bit more in this game before you get to a big story out of the NFL. We know he's We had the one big thing for the Yankees we talked about a few minutes ago, how scary they are. It doesn't feel like they're playing their best baseball yet and they're injured, and here they are with the top three record in the game for the Dodgers, and this plays into what the biggest issue they seem to have right now is right. I've said for a while, when Shoeo Tani comes back and he's ready to pitch, he's got a close and the fact that he is still throwing and doesn't have a timeline when he's going to return to pitching, it's still out there, Like Dave Roberts says.
Yeah, you know, yeah, we still don't know when.
But you know, he's building up like he was building up his arm in the playoffs last year, and he was not throwing before games just to hey, I'm getting throwing in like you felt like he was throwing. If I need to pitch in the playoffs, I'm gonna do it. So I don't know what's happened, but this is well over a year for Otani to not be able to come back and pitch. So the first thing I would say is this is that if he can't come back to pitch now, why would you ever put him out There is a starting pitcher again. Clearly his arm can't handle the stress of pitching, playing whatever it is. Two UCL injuries with that's knocked him out of pitching for a long time, why you have him come back and start. I get that he wants to start. He's been a starter, he was terrific, but you really have to protect him for his career. He can still pitch, and we've seen pictures with arm trouble with guys that can throw innings anymore. Make the great transition to closer and be great closers, right. We saw what John Smoltz, we saw with Dennis Seckersley. You can make Otani a closer, and not only do you add a great because you can worry about the at bats late in the game. If you're bringing Otani in too close, you're not worried about where you're batting in the bottom of the ninth inning, right, which is the whole thing, because you would have to move. If a guy goes from DH, you lose the DH position. If he's coming in to close. You're not worried about it, right, Okay, we're fine here, and if they tie the game, go ahead, you'll figure it out. But you bring if becomes a closer. Not only is that well suited, not only would he bring a huge jolt of energy every time he comes in to pitch, it's a role that can potentially he can handle pitching sixty some odd innings a year. Sixty or sixty five innings a year. Yeah, that'll work. When he's pitching once every couple of days. You're not gonna pitch him back to back, but once every couple of days. Oh, Donnie can do it.
That works.
And oh, by the way, it.
Also solves the biggest problem the Yankees have right now, which is who do you trust back end of that bullpen? Tanner Scott's blown twelve consecutive, says or it's five, But it seems like it's that, like you don't know if you're gonna be able to trust him. And he's still an elite late inning reliever, and you know, maybe Tanner Scott bounces back. I mean, look the Dodgers, but it doesn't matter whoever the Dodgers bring in to pitch start a reliever. There's always problems, there's injuries, there's ineffectiveness. So not only does that happen, but you could potentially solve one of the biggest problems you have, and that is the back end of the bullpen for the Dodgers.
Making Otani a closer works on all levels.
Yeah, there's just a question that I have.
Now, what's the math in the risk reward of getting him out there at this point? I heard a clip with your nemesis, Oral Herscheiser talking about some of that work that he was doing in the bullpen in those sessions going back to the playoffs, saying he was convinced he was ready, if necessary, right the break glass in case of emergency back then. It's all these months later, So where in the math have they decided that the likelihood probability of a re injury would not only keep him from ever really touching the mound again, but would force him out of the lineup. Because last year, the amazing year that he had, the stolen bases and the monstrous home run after home run. There was a medical marvel that he was out there playing.
After that surgery.
Right, you had no idea how that it's going to affect his swing it's gonna be a problem.
Well, clearly it was not.
But do you run that risk do you add more variables to that algorithm of what he brings to the table by putting him back on the mound. To this point, they're playing cautiously now.
They have the ability to.
Do so, given the strength of the organization, the resources at their disposal at one third of the way through the season, to not hit that panic button at this point. But you know, Frostburg has been spending all sorts of money trying to put Hex's on the knicks and all that other stuff. He needs to go and clean things up over in the wonderful world of Dodger Dodger Health.

Just what does it look like when you get to the end of September and into October. How many of those are ready to go? Because I think we'd all love to see Clayton Kershaw have a shot to not have Scott blow one of his games in the postseason, right Hall of Fame career, and let's you know, finish it off with a giant effort and playing and pitching meaningful games in October. But are we guaranteed that go on down the line, all the different injuries that plague them, who's going to be healthy and who's closing things out? Can they go and get Kenley Jansen back from the Angels if necessary?
Oh well, it's a quick trip back up the five.
