Now, wait a minute, did you say big meat Pete? Is that really where we're.

Going with their They're trying to make it happen for Pete a Lonzo. They're trying to make big meat Pete happen on social media.

Does he own a sandwich shop?

Well, they want to be able to chant big meat Pete, like let's go Mets and you know, polar Bear and big Meat Pete, Big Meat Pete. They want to try to make that work.

Yeah, but nick Foles already trademarked any variation and derivation of anything you having to do with meat.

Nick Foles doesn't play anymore. It doesn't matter. He's he's done, he's done. Trademarks doesn't matter. Be living on his own with penguins in Antarctic, it doesn't matter. Sent doesn't matter. Good luck at you, good luck at you. The Emperor penguins will be bringing you the seven dollars. They'll tie it to like.

The guys that had the rockets on their backs, and Batman returns.

Yeah, exactly, and all of a sudden, hey, look at the Penguins show up all with your money. Here's your seven dollars. Good luck spending it on ice. That's good. Congratulations. But yes, it is a big day in Major League Baseball because I mean, let's really, I've been waiting for three days to talk about the plague that has been loose, that is going to ruin the country, gonna split the world open. We're gonna have half the world breakoff and go in some sort of Darth Vader tie fighters spin. The other half is gonna stay open a little bit and stay up right. Then it's gonna tip over and fall all because of the torpedo bats.

Oh, you're gonna sentence because you had a lot of folks going, my man, stay off that third rail.

All because of the torpedo bats. They're gonna ruin the world. By cark, haven't you say, look at this, they're ruining everything, the torpedo bats, the torpie you can blame that everything on the torpedo bats.

Well, I mean, look, we all have to find some common enemy. And if torpedo bats be come in, I think we're doing.

Okay, Morgan Wallen walking off SNL torpedo bets, That's what it was. Hayley Van Lift get knocked out of the tournament. Torpedo bets. That's what it is.

Well, the seven as soon as the seventh year center fouled out early, I mean it was they were in trouble.

They had no more size down low. It was over. Jason. Is that why Sidney Sweeney single again?

Uh? Yes, that's exactly what I see. Seven year torpedo bats, Glenn Powell torpedo bet ed.

So has that been confirmed?

That's well, they've been hanging out together. This is kind of like the uh like every generation, a story like that repeats itself. This is like when Julia Roberts got unengaged from Keifer Sutherland and the next day she was on a date with Jason Patrick. They were best friends. Like this is kind of that just you know, thirty years later, every generation has its new thing.

Well, I mean, she was in that movie with Jason Patrick that was terrible.

Yeah. Yeah, no, I'm just saying it's you know, it works out.

You know the guy's name was Jaysons.

Yeah, I mean, come on, man, guy a game if your name was Jay in the nineties, it was it for you, man. Jason was a hip name in the nineties. Now remember her ever wearing any hats. Now it's just a name and that Now when you hear Jason, people go, is that your dad's name? Like, that's what my name has become.

Now.

I was an it name, man, I was an it name, and now just oh you must be your dad. How is he fifty? Is he fifty? Yeah? His name is Jason.

Okay, Yeah, that's o good.

Yeah, that's how it is.

Mike never goes out of style, do why I go buy Harman everywhere I go.

But before we get to the torpedo bag. Yeah, big night in college basketball. Obviously, heading towards halftime, I want to think USC can come back in this game, but boy, Yukon has not let USC breathe. It's a ten point lead for Yukon right now, and it's not even Paige Becker's who's been doing all the damage. Sarah Strong, who of course hit it big first as the voice of the departed Desperate Housewife, and now here she is having a huge first quarter with ten points and Yukon just seems to be doing what they want to do, and USC just seems to slowly being put out of this game. Again, what are you gonna do? You know, the best player in the game. It's been an incredible run for USC so far, but boy, it's hard for me to see in the second half. Suddenly USC starts putting this together and puts a run and stops UKM from getting the final four.

I dig the way you tried to tie that together. I mean you can also take her as a chocolate You know, airis going back to Seinfeld, right, so sure, yeah, you can go all all the way back. But yeah, having a huge night tonight and this is really starting to open up and USC getting blown out as we go to half.

Yeah, tough one and pour one out because we think it's the end of Hayley Van Litz's college basketball career. Now, I say we think because while she has exhausted her eligibility, I mean, the rules could change tomorrow. Like, I mean, she could be another school, right, three different schools, three elite eights, like she could be a she could be the world's first professional collegiate basketball player. They could pass a law that says, hey, she gets a transfer to a new team every year, play one year, get them to the elite eight. But she's got to go and go someplace else.

Now, there is something to be said for staying as long as you can. I mean, on the women's side, got a lot of notoriety and opportunity for l and endorsements and all of this, And certainly there's no shortage of commercials featuring some of the elite. But even if you know, nil payments and everything aren't at the elite level, you're stuck in. Seventy six grand is the salary for the WNBA. I think you can out earn that at a lot of these bigger schools. Oh so you know, the fact that you have to stay for those four years actually works to your advantage as opposed to you know, folks saying Cooper Flagg should say, I don't want your sixty million dollar guaranteed right now.

Beat it. But big props to her for last year. I mean, she was I can't. It was just an awful end of the season for her because being posterized by Caitlin Clark in the tournament her big revenge and the big video of the meme that of her just shrugging her shoulders walking off the floor going well, I can't guard her, what do you want me to do? Which really is not really on her more than's just hey, Kim Molky, you got to figure something out.

Kim mulk did her favors.

This isn't working right, but still it was Hayle Vanlyft got all the blame and she transferred and it didn't end with a final four, but an incredible run into the Elite Eight and that that's a great You talk about a redemption arc of a story in the course of a year, that's something for Haley van Lith.

It really is what Elite eight appearances three different schools.

She had a couple of videos the last week that I would encourage folks to watch, right, kind of talking about her journey, the mental health part of it and overcoming the stigma of being, you know, the girl that Caitlin Clark posterized, and whatever the relationship.

Was with Kim Mulki to move on.

She's certainly drawn the ire of so many people over the last couple of years. I don't pretend to know her, but certainly not warm, fuzzy and cudley would not be the way to describe her, at least in her outward dealings with people. So I'm wondering if you become the scapegoat of a team that doesn't reach the pinnacle, as we saw last year, that gets even more prickly along the way. Thus having the Hayley van lift every time she checked out of a game or finished a game. Uh, the first thing was a lot of hugs with the staff, with the trainers, with the coaches, whatever. Certainly a much better environment, it seems for her.

Uh.

And just a reminder to uh find those places where you can.

Fox Sports Radio Jason Smith Mike Harmon Live from the TIREC dot Com Studios. Now, the torpedo bat. The torpedo bat again, that is going to ruin that I've already seen. The stock market is down. Torpedo bat, right, torpedo bit, everything going torpedo bat?

Well, who can use one? Uhh on?

So, dude, one SODA's ops is like one one and a half what the rest of them? Lindor could use one, and he's been using one which doesn't Maybe it's not working. Maybe any that tells you the power the torpedo bat is only so much because Lindor's been using one this season and it's and he's oero for eleven and had the day off today.

Yea, it means he's a half assed magician, is what it means.

Look, I love this story. I love this story for two reasons. One because no matter what, I get to just say to all my dad and Fabiano and all the you just need to cheat, you know, the bat and they just go crazy, right, they just go absolutely crazy. What I won't tell them, but I'll tell you, but I won't tell that. It's like what what? What doctors don't want you to know about waiting in the waiting room? You know, coming out? Oh here's a hack? What flight attendants don't want you to know when you fly?

Uh?

Is it?

What I want to them is that it's fine. These beat the bats are legal. I'm honestly surprised no one's figured out a hack with these bats before now. But everything is legal. There's there's nothing against it. Now. Could you say maybe the bat laws need to be a little bit more police, Yeah, sure, but the bat laws really aren't that that big a deal. Other players have used them before. Many players are going to start using them now because of success the Yankees had against Nester Cortez and everybody else. Nester Cortez, well, by the last time we saw him on the Mount was giving up a grand slam of Freddie Freeman, who used a regular bat. But this is going to be Look, I love this because this is a huge story right now. It's gonna be a big story for a little while and then it'll taper off. More players are gonna use the torpedo bats. They're all ordering them. You're seeing stories from from basically every team. Your your team. They've quoted someone saying, I have a shipment of bats coming. I'm gonna try him out. Everybody wants to try him, right, and there's no sign that Major League Baseball is saying, Okay, this is something that we can't have done right. This is It's fine, It's absolutely fine. Yes, it sucks because the Yankees were using them. They were the first team to look at boy, look at all the benefits they're getting. But everybody can use the torpedo bats. Wait, don't Tani starts using a torpedo bat, and he's gonna have one hundred, one hundred year and it's gonna be But by the All Star break, Wow, Tanya one hundred, one hundred, and then here we are at the Midsummer Classic. What a year from show? Heyotani, Like, our number is gonna go up for some players, Yeah, for others it's not, and they're gonna go away from it, not use it anymore. Aaron Judge has more home runs than anybody. He's not using a bat. As he said yesterday, why would I mess with this? Yeah, I got it. You're right, You're absolute right. Why would you do that? So, yes, it's gonna be a big story for a while. It's a fun story. It's a big deal, but it's nothing illegal. Everybody's gonna start using them. This is kind of like I feel, it's like kind of like the tush push argument in the NFL, where oh, one team is really benefiting, but anybody can do it, but you just can't do it better than anybody else. So now we're gonna try to site a whole bunch of of reasons why they can't do it. Oh, the injury issue in this part real life, you just can't do it as well as the Eagles, And that's a big push to ban these things. So it's kind of like that where it's like nothing illegal is being done. You just can't do it. But the Yankees got out ahead of you.

Want.

Now you gotta wait for the shipments of these torpedo bats. But it'll again, it'll be a big story for a little while. It'll be fun. In the end, it'll taper away, and good. Good on the players for being able to say, Okay, now we can kind of match up a little bit better against the error of pitching. We can't leave the best batter's box. We have to go to time. That's an advantage for the pitchers. Now we get a little bit something back here with the bats. This is just part of how baseball goes. Man, this is not that big a deal, but I will not say that to my dad.

Very good.

Yeah, just a nationwide audience of several million across the globe on the iHeartRadio app and our five hundred affiliates nationwide. That's good. Look a couple of things. Number one, first mover advantage. First, real first mover advantage, because there's been a couple of batters that have used as they were saying, Stanton was using it last year in the process. But that's it. Everybody else will catch up. This is where I fault major League Baseball as a whole. The hell almost one hundred and fifty years and you're just figuring out, now, hey, you know what, we could do something with the bats. Really, all this other elaborate forms of chicanery, and it was as simple as manipulating the wood. So also, I want to get after all the guys that you know have the insights of what they tell me I should be investing in Yo by gold by gold. No, I should have maple trees everywhere because everybody's gonna want my torpedo bats.

Well, pretty soon you can tell you how far are we from saying what if I just wait for retree to split with lightning and I make one boy out of it.

No, got to use that, No, because then they'd say there was divine intervention and someone playing illegal. Really they especially if you had that giant etching in it. That has to create an advantage.

Oh well yeah I would. Yeah, you probably wouldn't want to use that. You use the etching in that, but you would go not you would go non etching. Maybe you non etching and you have a bigger bat.

I really do enjoy the fact that in the first day you're back from a little bit of a break.

We got Wilfred Brimley into the show that fast. Yeay, guys, you know who used a torpedo bout tonight? Who's at Ellie Dela Cruz. He went four for five with two dingers.

Torpedo bats Man torpedo bats. I do like that.

They look very much like the bats we used to give our kids when they were younger. So when you're out playing, playing with them with a whiffle ball, so I mean that that's a meme that that.

You were cheating when you were a kid.

Wow.

Well, I mean wow, cheating. I saw it. I call it innovating.

Well you say cheating, I say innovating, and you can't prove it. Oh very nice.

Hey, Baseball agreed with me. Their rules don't have much beecivicity at all.

Well, getting set for the second half of USC and Yukon Yukon just two quarters away from heading to the final four. The page Becker's redemption tour continuing, and again I said it earlier, I'd love to see USC make a huge I'd love to see it. Don't know they have it in them. It's really Yukon is just Yukon has just really done everything they wanted to do in the first half and they've been able to stop them from getting in any kind of rhythm. Look, when you don't have the best player in the country, it's really really hard to do it. It's a fourteen point lead right now. I think of USC can get it inside ten for the fourth or that would be a big be a big achievement. Maybe we'll see something close down the street.

Can they get something from Little Juju like we had Little Penny from the Science Club?

Oh sure, Oh yeah, says hello, Hey Tara, you left? Okay, so we'll have more on this, but getting set to join us now. I'm the hotline after a big day in NFL news. Longtime NFL insider check him out on Odyssey one of five seven the Fan in Baltimore, Washington Post. He's on Twitter at Jason Locking for It is Jason Locking for Jay? What's happening?

Man, what's going on?

Gentlemen about it?

You know, it's nice to show up and have everybody say, hey, you know, here we are. Owners are all ready to talk today and then talking about a whole bunch of different things like it's like, hey, okay, it's nice. They like to continue to move the the the plot lines along with us and not just give us some downtime before the NFL draft.

Well, it's in.

Mean, it's timing of this, right, it's right smack towards the culmination and the NCAA tournaments and writers baseball's taken off and it's a great sign to engender artificial NFL So no thanks, it makes defense.

They always want their cut of the pie. And let's be real, what they're talking about there, especially among the owners, more than anything else, is how to continue making obscene amounts of money.

Yeah. Uh so, let's start with Jimmy Hasselm. The big news of the day. The Browns owner said, listen, we had a big swing and miss on Deshaun Watson, basically saying, okay, you know, we know what. The Deshaun Watson air is over. I love that he said, But if you look into blame someone blame me and de his wife, the owners of the Browns, And I want to say, who else are we going to blame on this? Jay? There was nobody else to blame on this?

Right?

Like? What?

What?

What?

What? Like he's he wants to blame that he should be getting.

Yeah, I don't think there's been much of a disconnect on this. He wanted Deshaun Watson. He didn't want to do any real research on We don't need it realtigate this, but y'all know what happened. He shall wants to want nothing to do with Cleveland. He got to stolt about it. He told his football people, let's just keep throwing money at him. They said, there's a process we have to go to. They threw They pretty much made a mockery of that in terms of spending any real time with him or know, really getting into what was his mindset and he's sort of real examination into what he had done and what he was capable of, and you know, did he actually have any sort of remorse? Brainess? Like all that was just secondary and it was he got infatuated with the guy, so he authorized his people to do whatever it took, and whatever it took was a ridiculous contract that he quickly came to regret for a multitude of reasons. So yeah, I don't think there was like a whole lot of people out there saying, boy, that's silly Stefanski. Why did he really want? Why did he feel like it was Deshaun Watson or Buffing somehow convinced that owner to give him two hundred and sixty million, fully guaranteed. I think we all kind of knew the genesis of this one. The origin story was widely known, and brain had already been going to the appropriate people.

Now as it moves forward, I mean it we got Captain Kirk showing up at a Chipotle. Now they say it has nothing to do with any with the Browns, but it wouldn't be the first time someone lied to us.

Well, the problem there is that Arthur blank who boy is he bungled his air of quarterbacks? Sure as well, but looks like they may be onto something there in tennis. But he doesn't want to just admit the seat and accept that cousins of the sunk costs and therefore it's a salary dump. And you take which you can, you eat what you have to eat to get rid of you know what, what portion of that you don't want to pay, and he's treating it like it's a football trade. And when you see what the Russell Wilsons of the world are getting, and you see that, you know there's nothing out there right now that Aaron Rodgers wants to latch himself onto. Well, that's how teams are valuing kirk Cousins coming off a lost season and his own achilles issues. So at some point in time, I would think, just to avoid quarterback controversies and just to avoid you know what's behind door number two, and just to fully empower penics, that they would want to rid themselves of this. But the way they've handled it in their initial conversations society really initial. At this point, we're pretty deep into it. The way they've handled the situation has frankly left other teams, you know, sort of jaws a gaate, like these dudes aren't even in the real world, like we guess their owners making them say this ridiculous stuff, but they're not acting like a team that wants to trade kirk Cousins. I suspect at some point that changing.

Jay when we try to break down the quarterback situation here, and and you Kirk Cousins in Cleveland. Of course, we're still waiting to find out what's going on in Pittsburgh with Aaron Rodgers. I just keep going back to this, right, at some point, we're going to find out that the Steelers have another plan besides Aaron Rodgers saying he's coming, right, Because that's the part that I can't get past the last few days, is that, Okay, if Aaron Rodgers does come, what the hell are they doing? Like there's something else they have that it's not just Hey, we're really excited about Mason Rudolph, is it?

Well?

I think we just talked about Kirk Cousins. I mean, I think Kirk Cousins is a very valuable option for them again that the Falcons are gonna have to get real about the finances of that sort of deal. Yeah, And I mean after that, it is what it is. I mean, do you do you start to think about, you know, I'm Malik Willis. Do you want to try to, you know, explore Will Levice. I mean, there's there's things I guess you could do. You know, Tannehill. None of that is great, Although you know Tannehill did have a career renaissance. I guess with just splitting around for part of that, it is what it is at this point. I mean, what are those options? You know, draft Jackson Dart. Maybe they maybe they wait till Day two and take the wrong Maybe they can't wait to quite that pick to take him.

There are options.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that any of them look like it's gonna propel them into the playoffs. But we would have also said the same thing about the Denver Broncos and bow Knicks. It just a year ago, would we not have.

Yeah? Probably it will look right there.

Sitting here a month before the draft and I'm going to say, well, that's okay, They'll just take bow Nick's twelfth overall, and you would have been like, you're out of your bleep in mind, what are you talking about? But well, I would have to take them there, and then I'd be like, yeah, they're gonna take them, and then they're gonna they're going to go to the playoffs and he's gonna you know, he's gonna be like one of the best road quarterbacks in the NFL and he's not going to turn it over and everybody have been like that. That's a lot of crap, you know, So we don't always know, and you know, and I'm not saying that there's a Sean Payton on that Pittsburgh Steer which staff either when it comes to the quarterback development, But yeah, I mean, I don't think it's out the If it's something other than all those names I mentioned, and I think I probably got to about ten of them in the end, i'd be really surprised. That's that's that's the reality of the situation. The most likely one is that I think Rogers just eventually takes what's on the table. But look, if Atlanta comes to their senses first and they go and get Kirk Cousins, then I don't know where that leads.

Aaron Rodgers, Jason Lockabor with US one O five seven, the Fan of Baltimore, Washington Post, longtime NFL insider with us here as he is each and every week Jason Smith Show with Mike Rman here Fox Sports Radio from the Tirerax dot Com studios. So in the owners meetings, we start seeing some momentum towards the tush push and it's being banned and it seems like every coach is now falling in line. Sean McVeigh the latest say that doesn't look like football to me? Is this eventually going to get just run out?

Oh?

I think it just depends, you know we I kind of anytime coaches talk about this stuff, I tend to tune it out. And unless they're getting their directive direct you know, from the owner, and they're just you know, being good soldiers and parroting what they know is already the way the winds blowing, because ultimately doesn't no one cares what the coaches think. Like in that when these rules are changed, it's the thirty two guys who never played the game, right, it's the thirty two rich guys who decided they're thirty one game they don't really have one. I mean, I don't think Mark Murphy might qualifies, but that's how it gets done. So, you know, like they value their coaches until they don't. If they take that away, then they need to just eliminate the ability to push a ball carrier anywhere, right, Like, if we're eliminating that, I just hope it extends to this what's become commonplace of the running up behind a guy, you know, in some cases multiple people running up behind a ball carrier and just seeing how long, you know, help help of a rugby scrum can we create before his momentum sufficiently stopped for him to hit the ground or the officials to eventually get around the blowing it dead. Like, if they're going to take this away, I hope they eliminate anything that resembles this in any way, shape or form, even on like a hook and ladder type play, Like, it's all that I think should be eliminated in the name of player safety.

Of course, of course, of course.

Now go now, yeah, of course, let's let's make sure of course, of course, yes, yes safety. Let's make sure we say player safety, player safety. I gotta say, I'm enjoying the poker game being played by all three teams. At the top of the draft, you have Tennessee saying, oh, yeah, quarterbacks are are so important, but yet we're open for business, the brown saying we're not locked into a quarterback at number two. The Giants say we're not going to force a quarterback at number three. How much of this what you're saying, because this is a great poker sofar, I got it. Sadly, this is just everybody amping it up.

Well, the Bros added, as reigning Super Bowl champion Jason come on.

Yeah, I mean, but I look at it. I go, this is fantastic, But cut through it for us here. How much of this is poker? How much of this is Hey, one team's going to say what they're gonna do here, But really, the quarterbacks are coming off the borderly.

I have a problem up coming on this. On the Washington Post, i'd been taking people's temperatures about the subterfuge. I'll say this that the Miami quarterback is going to Tennessee the length that the Browns went to, it's amazing. Like we knew who was going to have dinner with Abdul Carter, right, we knew I think we knew who was going to be sitting to his left and who was going to be sitting to his right. And you know Jimmy has when Sun and Law is going to be there, Like we knew the whole traveling party in delegation in their entire plans, like two days before they even went to Happy Valley. They want to have to value to see a player who's not doing anything physically whatsoever. They did bring their coach with him, and he'd already spent the day with them in their building. It's just interesting, right, how much we knew about that in real time, and they really need what a quarterback, right, and they just gave They threw money at Miles Garrett until he shut up about not wanting to be there anymore. So I would say if sa Door Sanders went to the Cleveland Browns right now, there's twenty of gms in a league, wouldn't be surprised because they think they don't protest too much. And if he is sitting there, I'm still not convinced the Giants tatum and now there are people in the league I talked to who think they will. I just we talked about this before. I don't think he fits the mode and the model for that owner. And if this guy's gonna be my guy the next fifteen years, I just think the idea that he's that outspoken and that bold and that brash, I don't think that's with that quoter, with that owner wants. But what they've done is create a climate where you know it. Put it to me, they'll cover their ass enough like so that if they don't take a quarterback the owner is not going to probably freak out, but they haven't brought anybody in there who would preclude you for playing him right sooner rather than later if you do take one anyway, and they can kind of both sides it to other teams, and if they want teams to think they're okay at quarter they can sell them on that. And if they want teams to think, no, no, this is just to get us through the first half of the season and then we'll trade one of those guys into the deadline, and none of this is going to stop us from taking a quarterback trying to get somebody to trade up into their spot. You know, they can probably play those cards as well. And maybe I'm giving them too much credit because the Giants and they haven't got a whole lot right for quite some time. At the end of the day, I think they take the best player on their board, and I suspect it's not a quarterback, And you know, I think they hope and pray that Arch Manning comes out a year from now, although there's also a lot of people who would say, go study the Mannings. Those kids don't come out until they've been there four years and they've been pretty well developed, and he hasn't obviously played that much to this point. But there are certainly people out there who feel, like, you know, they would move heaving in art to get our expanding in a year from now if they weren't already in position to get them just because well they're probably gonna suck.

Yet he's on exit. How at he's on exit Jason lock and for check him out Odyssey as well. The column coming up on the Washington Post about the quarterbacks one oh five seven the fan in Baltimore. Jay as always, Buddy, appreciate it man. We'll talk to you next week.

USC has cut Yukon's lead to nine nearing the end of the third quarter, so maybe things will get interesting. Gino ri Em is screaming on the sideline, so you know things are not going Yukon's way. However, you know, I always like to say I would moonlight really well as a public relations advisor to the stars right teams and athletes and coaches who need my advice for me to say, Hey, don't say this because you look stupid.

Yeah, you have a lot of thoughts about what other people should do with their lives and situations.

Well, at least or the right things to say when you know what you want the public to know about things. Sure, and the team that needs my absolute biggest advice right now after what they said today are the Minnesota Vikings, because I would tell them, hey, guys, you need my advice. Hi, Jason Smith PR. You have Fox Sports Radio PR. Listen. I want to tell you something it's important not to do when you talk about things football related. Don't look stupid. That's the biggest thing.

Well, nice summary statement.

Don't look stupid today. You know, big owners meeting is going on. We had a lot of big news to go on that we're going to you know, starting to hit throughout the show tonight. Head coach Kevin O'Connell wanted to make sure that he came clean about the team's dalliance with Aaron Rodgers earlier this month, and he wanted to make sure that we knew that, Hey, this did not reflect any concerns they have about JJ McCarthy, O'Connell saying on Monday, hey, I had a relationship with Aaron Rodgers. We happened to be one of those teams he reached out to. You know, he's a guy, he's a four time NFL MVP. We've had respect for him. Happened to be a point time in his career he was free to have some dialogue what his future might look like. But we still love JJ McCarthy. Yeah, again, don't say stuff like that because you look inept. You look absolutely inept. That remember, because everybody knows that you're a team that decided to let Sam Darnald walk. To let a guy again, that was a Pro Bowl quarterback, top three quarterback in the league last year, right, But whatever I think about him, he came through right, four thousand yards, thirty five touchdowns, fourteen and three. He went to the playoff when you thought the season was over in August, when McCarthy got hurt, and you decided, no, no, we love JJ McCarthy so much, we're letting Sam darnald walk. Okay, I can disagree with that, but okay, you love JJ McCarthy. But now when you go out and talk to Aaron Rodgers, it seems like, no, you don't love JJ McCarthy, and you just look like you don't know what you're doing. We allowed Sam Donald leve when we should have played a little bit better. Maybe we could have franchised him and then traded him because we could clearly could have done that. We could assign him it to it, We could have done a lot of different things. He could have come into this year with hey, different things going on with our team. Oh but if we signed Sam to money, we can't sign the guys we signed in free agency. Yeah, that's true, But you don't know if you have a quarterback. It's the most important position on the team. I think you would rather have a quarterback and have holes elsewhere than have everything else buttoned up and not know if you have a quarterback. So stop, you just look inept. And the more talk about Aaron Rodgers, the worse you look. I can't change it any more that it got out, but I would just say, hey, sorry, it's done. JJ's our guy. He's the number one, because you can't bring in anybody that's gonna fight for the job with him, because that would be counter to everything you put out there as a team. And again, you don't want to look inept. And with this whole Rogers thing, they have looked inept over the past month, with and ham handed with how they explain letting Sam Darnold go, but still looking into Aaron Rodgers when JJ McCarthy is our guy that we love so much. Really, I look at him and I just go, either they're just not smart or they don't know what they're doing, or could be a combination of both.

Well, you got a lot of things going on.

You also had Daniel Jones on your roster in Indianapolis came and got him. Meanwhile, you grabbed a couple of Indianapolis's offensive linemen. See, we'll show you. You take the quarterback, he's got nobody to protect him now. But when we look at how they're going about this, it's the we want the honesty until we actually get it right. Because you kicked the tires on Aaron Rodgers. Clearly you decided Sam Donald was only taking you so far. Whether that's Kevin O'Connell not wanting to look into the mirror and take any responsibility for his own shortcomings and play calling and situational football. And it's not to excuse Sam Donald, but just saying it's a big blame buy and everybody gets their fair share in my world. But for Kevin O'Connell and company, clearly they decided Sam Donald was the guy that we're not gonna pay him top dollar, keep building roster. We'll figure it out. And you may, like JJ McCarthy, we don't know where he is physically surgery and then clean up of that surgery and swelling and everything else. So why not have some other conversations from a guy who's climbed to the top of the mountaintop, as O'Connell even says, the guy that he knew from his playing days. It's how long Aaron Rodgers has been in the game, Kevin O'Connell. I remember his New England Patriots trading cards when he was supposed to be the next guy after Brady and then praying Brady played for another decade.

Yeah, well, I mean, it just is what it is.

But you're you're just at the point of you're doing your due diligence, but generally you do that behind closed doors and outwardly you're wearing a sweatshirt that has JJ McCarthy's face on it.

Yeah, he is your guy.

Don't remind anybody that you might not be smart, like I always say that, don't remind people, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh that's right. That's the guy that doesn't know what is it?

The better to be quiet?

Yeah, and open your mouth and prove that you're an idiot or whatever.

Yeah, let people assume maybe you are, maybe you're not, rather than open your mouth than not. Oh, they don't know what they're doing. The less you say about Aaron Rodgers, the better off you'll be. Percent.

Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

App Exitdasca, Exit Swollen Dum, Jason Smith, Mike Harmon, Lifromthetireck dot Com Studios. We got a big NFL story and a big baseball story coming up next. Guess what Star, I guarantee you'll be traded soon. That lead back out and now the Yukon lead is back safely into double digits.

And then you had a nice little handoff and three that gets knocked down, but us us continuing to bring the fight at the free throw line with the clock stop.

Greatest momentum swing right there.

Smith add a couple of points on the board and try to get back in and claw into this game. But it's been a fun battle watching Yukon struggle and watching Geno oriamas you know, we need that picture and picture of the coach, so we'll keep.

You updated on this again. It's a sixty four to fifty one lead for Ukon, about six minut's to go in the fourth quarter. The final of the final four teams women's tournament about to be named in Jason minutes. Yeah, what do you got, Frostburg.

Make sure every time you talk about that, you make sure in every sentence, Juju Watkins is out.

I think people know that. I think people Watkins is out. Juju Watkins is at not playing, not playing tonight, Juju Watkins. Cheryl Miller also not playing tonight. None of them are playing, none of the none of the former great USC greats. They're not playing tonight, not playing. Juju Watkins out without Juju Watkins.

Yeah.

I don't think you play like golf where you get extra points or anything.

With but I think you, like, maybe that's how they call it. Yukon leads us C without Juju Watkins, Like it's not the USC Trojans. There, USC without Juju Watkins.

Is the exactly how it goes for the rest of the tournament.

Yeah, there you go, USC without Juju Watkins. Uh, so again, this could be Paige Page. Becker's moment could be her tournament. She has another jumper again, a thirteen point lead for Yukon with about five and a half left.

To go without Drew Watkins, without you, yes.

Without Juju and you not but not like Juju Watkins got traded. Uh, Yukon is not playing with Juji Watkins. Uh. So, look, we talked about the torpedo bats. Uh. You know, we got a couple of big takes on this because it's taken baseball by store, it's become the biggest story in the sport. But before you get to that, I gotta say this. I can already tell you the next star that's going to be traded. We have played not even a full week of Major League Baseball, and I can already tell you the next star player who will be dealt sooner rather than later.

You ready hit me.

It won't be Garrettshe it's good to got traded from the White Sox and got a contract extension worth about double the highest the White Sox have ever paid out.

Oh yeah, he got a he got a lot of money.

Six years, won seventy Maybe.

Come on, now, he got a lot of money.

So it's not him.

Uh No, it's not him. It is not him. And uh and and the Mets. One tonight Peede Alnzo hit a Grand Slam. It's not pin Alonzo. Right, you know it's not pin Alonzo. But I guarantee you if you need a third baseman, if you need a hitter, you can call the Red Sox and get Rafael Divers some point, very very soon. This is not just an historically awful start for Divers because of all the drama that's gone along with it. Right, Divers now is oh for nineteen with fifteen strikeouts so far this season for the Red Sox. Now you can talk about he's had a slow start. He didn't have a lot of at bats in spring training. And I saw a lot of talk today well as bats, beat is behind, and of course it's behind. He's oh first nineteen with fifteen strikeouts. What do you You're telling me something I already know. But this is not just here's a star who has started slow. If you remember when the Red Sox went out and got Alex Bregman, this guy's a gold glove third baseman, and Rafael Divers is not right. He's a below average third baseman, and when this trade was made, Devers said, I told them I am a third baseman. I'm a third basement. I'm not playing anywhere else. I'm a third baseman. And the Red Sox tried to figure it out early in spring training by saying, hey, let's try Bregman at second base. It's just like, what, come on, don't be stupid, but the guy's at third basement. You figure things out now, and Divers was absolutely absolutely his situation was in flux. And then they decided near the end of spring training, Divers, you're the DH and Bregman's at third base, which is probably the right move, except now you look at Divers again, Oh for nineteen with fifteen strikeouts. Right now, I'm not gonna sit here and say he's tanking, you know, although the timing is really weird that, hey, after he's so upset at the team that he doesn't want to do anything but play third base, this is how he starts out, Oh for nineteen with fifteen strikeouts. Timing is a little curious, however, is how much is Devers still mentally locked in? Right There's talk about him being overweight. Jonathan Papelbond former Red Sox clothes went off on mat on social media earlier today. It just doesn't seem like this is a situation that with time can get solved. If you start out slow, certain things happen. Yes first week major League Baseball, it's not a lot to get into. There has been a lot of draw and you can see how bad of a start that this is off. This is off to and again I don't know how how Devers is how much he has committed mentally, because it really, again, all of the stuff happening and here he is zero for nineteen and fifteen strikers, Like that doesn't happen, Like that's not a run that I think Pat Burle had a run like that in the World Series like fifteen years ago. But that kind of run doesn't happen if you are locked in, if you're missing. And maybe he needs torpedo bats, maybe he needs a thousand torpedo bats. But this has not been a situation that has gone on then that has started out well, and it just seems to be deteriorating on the field, and at some point there's going to be pushed to a trade and I guarantee you you can, you can call and get Rafael Devers and the Red Sox will listen at some point, very very soon. If he makes it out of April as a Red Sox player, I would be surprised at this point. I mean it's not a month. But if he takes a little bit time to make a trade to realize this isn't working out, we can't get him back. We're not going to get him back mentally, We're not going to get him back to be in the player he was. He's twenty eight years old. We paid him a lot of money, but still teams will go out and get him. But by the end of April, you can go out and get Rafael deeper.

Yeah, I mean this becomes a huge issue.

I mean we talked about it in spring training and wondering how long it would take to come to a head. More so just a clubhouse kind of dissent and having an issue. The fact that Devers's game is just tanked altogether, Yeah, is just amazing, right because it's it's one of those we see.

Guys going the phones.

I mean, hell, I watched the first game, right, the Yankees Brewers game. You know, that was the first thing on Friday, and you watch Churio couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. It's one game, Okay, a couple doubles since, not that he's off to a hot start, but clearly he's at least got some semblance and consistency in his approach, falling pitches, off, extending at bats, whatever before going down. Devers just lost right now. His his his head is somewhere else. Whether it's a battle with the front office. I like the idea, you know, this makes for good, good hot takery of hey, oh yeah, tak him to get out of there.

He's trying to force an issue.

I think that's Look, look, if Devers is doing that, like, that's that's something you can't like, you can't get it. Dude, are you tanking or you just I don't care, Like there's a difference between tank tank. You go up there, I'm I'm I'm on purpose striking out and I'm you know, I could hit this pitch, but I'm not going to right like that. I don't know that that is the case as much as he doesn't care, because you throw it all in there. Mentally, how how in was he with these moves not very much physically where is he? And and it's not. I mean, how are you going to solve this? The guy wants to play third base. He wants to play he says, this is my position, even though it's like, hey, dude, understand you're not quite the player. This makes us better. We have a World Series caliber team. But when I told when they sign Alex Bregman, I said, listen, Red Sox is a team that can go to the World Series. They can out hit everybody, like this is gonna be a fun playoff team, Like you'll figure out the pitching. But man, this lineup is immensely talented and Devers has been really good, Like the guy's been solid as I mean, he's a twenty five hundred guy basically every year, right and he's still hits two seventy. He doesn't hit two twenty. Like, this is a guy who is gonna give you a warrant of three and a half to four And all of a sudden, look where he is. Man, look at everything that's gone into I don't think there's any there's any lack of any coincidence that this is how bad the exhibition season went, and this is where we're starting out like like like a James Harden or somebody else that I'm just done here and I'm gonna keep just, you know, kind of going out there and going through the motions until I get a trade and I get to someplace I want to be that I'm gonna get to play third base and I'll be happier because it's not like the guy suddenly has lost it. I mean, like he's twenty eight, he still is a terrific Well he's not. Yeah, so there being teams going, oh, we can go get him and we know the money that's in Yeah, okay, and they can't keep him around forever, right, how long do you keep him around? I mean we're still you know, we're still We're one day away from being in April. I was by the end of April, Boston's gonna have a big decision to make because either they can play him or they can't, or they sit him. You want to trade him while he's still got really high value, as high value as you're gonna get. I don't know that this is solvable. I don't know that this is fixable, and that does my first Bowl prediction he gets traded by the end I.

Think it just comes back to the psychology of it all, right, of like, are you having a grown up discussion with him? Like where are you in this process? Like what do we need to do? Do we need to send you to the sports psychologists down the street?

Is this just you and Bregman?

We need to lock you in a room and you guys fight, and whoever comes out gets to play third base? Owing to the fact that he's been historically terrible as a third baseman.

Uh huh uh.

Right over the last seven years, has he not led the major leagues and errors pretty much every year at the position. So I mean it's it's not good. And they didn't pay you three thirteen for your acumen.

No, man, I.

Gotta imagine sitting there as he talked with the agent and any presentations that were done in negotiations, if he was president of them at all, at no point did they reference his ability to play third base.

Yeah, dude, you're not You're not Brooks Robinson. We're not going back looking at some of the great plays you made against the Reds and the nineteen seventy World Series, right, We're not doing that. But it is a thing, like I get players are like that certain players are this is my position, is what I've played my whole life, and you're telling me I can't do it. And it plays into it and it gets a little bit further away from the Hey, a player who moves from playing the field of being a DH he's not as connect doesn't feel as connected to the game because he's not in the field anymore. That's different than just I'm upset that I'm not playing my position. I'm pouting and and I don't know what kind of effort you know, the guy is really giving, you know, going and mentally, whether it's preparing or how he's going out there every night. Like that's I mean, that's a that's a that's a big thing. Man, that's a really big thing to say, Hey, Okay, I'm gonna we're gonna stick with this guy for how long? Like again, it's it's like a James Harden thing. How long can you stick with somebody when this is going on before it's just hey, we have to move on for everybody involved, we just have to move on. We have enough hitting that we can figure something else out and it's okay, but we'll get stuff back for him. A team you know Steve Cohen, I'm sure, or somebody that makes you know, the Yankees or whatever. It won't be the Yankees, but a team that has a lot of money to spend. Hey, we're okay, we know this guy's really good for the next ten years. We're okay with three hundred million, that's a that's pretty good for us. Getting a twenty five one hundred guy with a war of about four of a year, We're pretty happy with that. So, yeah, he'd eminently be tradable. But you can't just wait forever on it.

So what does this mean for Rafael Divers?

Rafael? What does it mean for Gail Devers? What does it mean for trying to Gary Jeevers? Oh, Cherry che he had the best mask right when he had the stitches on the mask. You had the stitches on the mask.

That was awesome there, you like, that's see what we did there.

Now, maybe he just needs a torpedo bat. Now, that could be it.

I don't know, it doesn't hurt.

Well, boy, that would really be something if he was using a torpedo bat and he's still got fifteen strikeouts.

Well doing that.

Wan Soto's ops is one and a half he's fine. It's everybody else not hitting. It's it's every single play. Well in Lonzo the ground.

Everyone's standing there waiting for haters pitch the break.

Don't forget we also had the chiever letters.

Sure, oh there is bad, very good the chiever letters. But I want to say this that, like, like thinking about this now with the torpedo bats, right, is that is there a way because I think that I think we need this now. And I don't know if a website that will do this, but is there a way for a website every day to aggregate all the home runs hitting Major League Baseball that day and the number that we're hit with a torpedo bat?

Yeah, I think we just need to disclosure. Everybody with a torpedo bat, you don't have to agree about the game because they're not hitting any Yeah.

I mean well, I mean look, Lindor's been using them all season. He hasn't gotten hit, So I mean there's that. But I mean like, like we could start with that and say, okay, and let's see what the what the real effect is, and then get even more into her. Okay, let's aggregate the stats of players using torpedo bats and then see what the average is compared to players who aren't using torpedo bats. Like that's like an alias sports beeer. Maybe maybe Steve Desager can call the great Sarah Langs and get and get that out kind of that. If we'll start with the home runs first and then we'll go with everything else and see where the where the hitting numbers are.

Just think about how many home runs ron Karkawis would a hit you.

We'll just let and then we'll just let steroids back in the game. Why not if you're doing that to let staroids back in, just let them back you Why We'll do everything, give the advantage back to the hitters. Let them do whatever they want.

I got no problem with it. Let's go. It's all them for entertainment purposes.
