Hour 2 - Backward Hat Cowherd

Published Dec 27, 2022, 9:02 PM

In this hour of The Herd, Colin must wear his Miami Dolphins hat backward after losing a bet to news anchor Jason McIntyre. While youthfully sporting his hat, Colin starts with his Herd Hierarchy and later welcomes in First Things First's Nick Wright to discuss the NFL's hottest topics. Finally, Colin reacts to Tom Brady discussing retirement on a podcast and considers where the elder quarterback might play next year.

Here we Go Live Ben Los Sanngelus. It's the Herd wherever you may be, however you may be listening iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio FS one. I well, I didn't want to make a bet. J Maac foisted it upon me because he has to get the Seahawks logo. I mean, we became local radio doing stunts. You're gonna get a Seahawk logo shaved into your head if they win the next two games. Correct. And then he lured me into I don't like hats on backwards for my quarterbacks. I don't like it at all. Only it's just I don't like it. And so I said, I loved Miami this weekend and they were leading twenty to seven, and then it appears that two got a concussion and still played and was just out of sorts. So it's time to shut him down for the year. So that so I have to wear this on for the next hour, had on backwards. The downside of this isn't wearing it on backwards. It's that it's well a little bit. It's actually the best looking hat in the league. They've had this. I mean, most of these teams changed logos and stadiums every fifteen minutes. Dolphins have changed stadiums. Is that a great looking logo or what? That's the best logo in the league they've had to say, I don't remember that. When I was a kid, I think this was a logo. It's just clean and everybody loves it. In my it looks like Miami's weather. I mean, it's it's the best professional sports logo. But all you're gonna see is this What a bummer. But since I made the bet, there we go. Look that. I mean, do I look ridiculous, not at all. I have worked my entire life in this career and now I look like the you know, the guy around the corner. I don't know, just the guy around the corner. So anyway, with that, Nick Wright is coming up in a few minutes. What a discouraging way to look for our number two. Here we go. It's the Herd Hierarchy top ten teams in the league. Herd Hierarchy the top ten NFL teams according to College the Packers. That's how I feel like I should talk with my hat on backwards. The Packers on a three game winning streak, third comeback win of ten plus points. That's the best and the most in Aaron Rodgers era. I've been critical of Matt Lafleur. I don't think he's incapable, but I'm not sure he's as good as the media makes him out to be. Well, Aaron and Matt Lafleur are fifteen to no in November, so it counts. I do worry about the injury Toon Watson. It's taken them a while to get Aaron in. These young receivers conjoined they have. I still wish they'd run the ball a little more with Aaron Jones consistently, but they make the top ten Packers at ten. Number nine the Chargers. They've won four or five. Listen, their defense with a defensive head coach is finally planned well. They have had thirteen sacks in the last three games. And here comes Bosa who's supposed to return this week. All you have to do to Justin Herbert is played decent defense and he wins. He's eighteen and four when the Chargers hold opponents to fewer than twenty seven points. So when they play average defense, Justin Herbert wins. They did last night against an awful team, and he won again. Number eight the Jaguars. I had them above the Lions last week, and people push back. I think it's a real football team. I think Trevor Lawrence is a star. He's the best quarterback in the NFL passer rating since Week nine, big tall moves, he has the large just increase ever in passer rating one year to the second. They're on a three game winning streak. They don't know what they don't know. They're young. If they do make the playoffs, they are a one and done. But he has become with Doug Peterson the quarterback, I thought he would be Jags at eight, number seven, Minnesota at seven. The ceilings lower. But Kirk Cousins is eleven and oh in one score games. That is just insane. If Dan Marino was eleven to know and one score games, that would be insane. He's playing with confidence in the last three weeks, leads the NFL and passer rating. They've got start. They've got a lot of things. I like a capable quarterback, an offensive coach, a star receiver. You know. I think we all kind of realize this is not going to be a super Bowl winning team. But they're fun. It's a great city that loves its football, and they got a heck of a team. Number six the Eagles. Lane Johnson's not played, so they're not a top five team if he's not playned. That's their reality. I don't care what they did. This is not a standings list. They are not a top five team without Lane Johnson as the guy with a hat on back word says, but their defense has six plus sacks does Philadelphia in four straight games. That is a lot of sacks. The d line really good. They can stay in games. Cross your fingers on Jalen Hurts coming back Philadelphia at number six. Number five Dallas Cowboys just beat them. Was a backup, but they're seven and two since Dak returned. They've scored twenty five plus in eight straight games. So we all thought they'd bring on OBJ. It hasn't hurt them. They're doing a good job offensively. Now Dak has eleven picks since returning from injuries. That's the most by any quarterback since Week seven. It is a little concerning and in big spots. I don't trust Mike McCarthy, but we've got to be fair here. They remind me a lot of the Chargers. Great individual players, not quite buttoned up to be a Final four team, but Dallas they can pop you. They're a heavyweight with a punch. I don't know what their chin is, but they're a heavyweight with a punch. Number four the Bills. Okay, we all like the Bills except Nick. Right. Here's the thing about the Bills that worries me. Twenty four giveaways this year. Only the Colts have more. You're not beating Kansas City in Cincinnati if you're giving the ball away two and three times a game. Now they're on a six game winning streak. There's so much. I like the owners, I like the GM I pretty much like the coach. I love the quarterback. Josh Allen, though, has had five multiple interception games this year. That is the most in the NFL. I think you can get away with that in the NFC. I do not think you can get away with that in the AFC. That's why I have Buffalo at four, number three the Niners. I have questions about brock Purty two, but they have an eight game winning streak. They have allowed twenty or fewer points in eight straight games. Don't listen to anybody. This is the most talented roster in the league. They have a pro bowler everywhere, corner, safety, two it, linebacker, rush end. They're great. This team is loaded and brock Purty, as I said a month ago, he is good enough to win most ultiple playoff games. Can he go to Philadelphia and win a playoff game? I'm not sure, but this team is absolutely stacked. I couldn't be happier for John Lynch, who I covered in Tampa was a teammate of at Fox. Now he's the GM and he has crushed at This roster is fantastic. I have them at three number two. Kansas City beat him and beat him soundly in the Bay Area. It's the best offense, the scariest offense. They have more touchdown passes thirty seven than touchdown passes aloud thirty one. And again they've rebuilt a defense, oh line rebuilding receivers. Now they're not as electric as they were with Tyreek Hill. So I do not believe this team is the same kind of team that can trail twenty four nothing to a playoff level team like Houston a few years ago and come back. But it's Mahomes, it's Andy Reid. Steve Spagnola dials up good playoff defenses. Kansas City at two number one for the second straight week. I have Cincinnati at one. J Mack was selling this stock like crazy two months ago and I said they lost to Dallas, and I said, the second half of that Dallas game, that's who they are. The real key to Cincinnati isn't Jamar Chase. It's not Joe Mixon. It's Joe Burrow. Plus this, they're one of two teams they have the same starting offensive line in each of the first fifteen games this season. So the key with Cincinnati now Burrow's not getting hit. Burrow has a lot of time. They've got two running backs if one goes down, multiple receivers if one goes down. This is how you build an NFL team. And we don't know if Zach Taylor's a great coach, but we have to be honest about this. You can't win as many big games and close games as Zach Taylor is done. He deserves credit too. He's from the McVeagh tree. For the record, Sean mcvay's coach in Minnesota eleven and oh and one score games. Sean McVay tree coach in Cincinnati, been to a Super Bowl. So what is happening is Jehan McVeigh is becoming the Andy Reid of this generation, where his assistants are sponges. They soak up his information. Brandon Staley's from his tree. He just made the playoffs. So there is there is my herd hierarchy. What do you make of it? No holes at all. This is probably your best effort of the season. I just can't get over the hat backwards. You look like you're about to talk to some teenagers about vaping. You know them. I'm sorry, I can't contain myself. The internet is gonna have some fun with this college. I have a feeling that was funny. Thank you, kids, don't vape. I will say I've always liked when my quarterbacks and I'll just do this for a second. When my quarterbacks come to the podium on Wednesday, and they have the team hat on in Century Bank behind them, and they address the media. I think this looks kind of like college frat boy, which, by the way, when I clean my garage out every year and you got to go into the crevices and the corners, we all do it in the spring. I wear my hat backwards. Interesting. I don't love to look publicly, which is why I'm being shamed today. No vaping. All right, do we have Nick right a? Is he here or not? Oh? We do, It's not on the screen. All right, Let's bring on my buddy. First things first, co host Nick Wright. Look at this. What's up, my friend? You look like a seventies You're like a member of the Beat. Looks you look so good? Okay, and look at that. Thanks, I appreciate that. Did you see You know how you say? And I want to talk about your hierarchy in a moment, but you know how you say? Our show is the only show in sports with no budget. Yeah. Did you see what we did Friday to celebrate Trevor laurence arrival to the playoffs. We had professional trumpeterers in full royalty costumes come out on set just throwing money away. Colin. That's what you can do when you're the only show on sports TV with no budget. Can I have a few qualms with the hurd hierarchy, all right, so I agree with a lot of it. You said one thing though about the Jags that I don't know if you totally believe, which is you said they're one and done in the playoffs. Yeah, if they beat Tennessee in two weeks and they're at home. You don't think the Jags and Doug Peterson could beat the Chargers in Jacksonville in a playoff game in a four or five, Because I think they could. I think that, Listen. I think Herbert versus Lawrence is very very close. I like Peterson more than I like Staley. That would be a home game for them, the Chargers having to go all the way across country. I actually the Jags could win that game and find themselves in the divisional round. The other thing you said, you just took a shot at me. You're like everyone likes the Bills except Nick Wright. I'm just the only truth teller in America when it comes to everyone's favorite quarterback, Josh Allen Colin, would you leave me if I told you that over the last ten weeks. Ten weeks, Josh Allen is thirtieth in completion percentage, twenty sixth and passer rating and has the most turnovers of any quarterback in the league. That's two and a half months of football. He's supposed to be their strength. Their other strength was Von Miller, who's done for the year. Yeah, so that to me, I understand they're winning games, but I think Cincinnati is going to be a handful for them on Monday. And the last thing I'll say is this, I agree with you entirely on Cincinnati, but you mentioned the continuity on the offensive line, Lyell Collins being lost for the year with the torn ACL Yeah, I want to see how they deal with that because that has been such a huge part of their success and now he's gone. Yeah, he was real spotty early in the year. I think he got his stuff together then he got hurt. It's a bad time in the year for some injuries. It's so disheart you see these young guys get hurt at the end of the year and you're like, oh, it's so heartbreaking. So I do want to ask you have been critical of Dak through the years, and I think we've both had the same thing. He's a good B plus quarterback. I always say he's Kirk Cousins with a much better brand. So I look at this team like the Chargers. I don't trust him to win three straight road games get to the super Bowl. But I got to be honest that Dak's winning kind of the games he needs to. So where are you with Dak right now? Well? I thought Sunday was arguably the best win of his career. And that's kind of a compliment wrapped in an insult. And I don't mean it to be, but if that could be the best win of your career, it means you haven't won a ton of big games. However, given the fact that they lost the Jags game because of a pick six, and then you start the Eagles game essentially with a pick six, rallying from that against that defense, leading the team to forty points, getting the third and thirty to keep that game alive, and doing what he did. I now look at Dallas and I said, Okay, round one, they're gonna go to Tampa. I think that is actually a sneaky, tough game because of Brady. But let's say they win it. I would like them in a Round three against Philly with no Lane Johnson, with a Vonte Maddox now out, and with real questions like as Jalen Hurts going to have a month between games, A guy who has no playoff history whatsoever except for one game when he was bad was playing great now a kind of curious injury to his throwing shoulder that it seems like the team isn't giving us all the details on. To me, that's a real concern if I'm an Eagles fan and I could absolutely see Dallas for the first time since I was in fifth grade finding itself in the conference championship game. I don't think they can beat San Francisco, but I do think round three they could go to Philadelphia against an all of a sudden, very banged up Eagles team and win that game. I want to ask you about Mac Jones. I can paired him to Grayson Allen earlier, where I said Rodman, Romanowski Draymond Green have been accused of being dirty players, but you get such a benefit from their ability. I mean that Draymond Green is the catalyst for that offense. Rodman was the most annoying, you know, player in the league. In Romanowski say what you want, what nobody wanted to play against him? Well, Grayson Allen and Mac Jones are just not that good. And I've come to a point now I have three incidents with Mac Jones. I think he's become a cheap player. That's what I view. How do you view it? I think you're being too kind because here's the other part of it. Colin. You're on television every day, multiple hours a day. If a couple times a year you slipped up and cursed, you could say, illis it's a mistake. I'm on for literally hundreds of hours a year. If you brought someone on once a month for five minutes and every other time they cursed, be like, oh they have a cursing problem. They can't help themselves. Matt Jones has very limited opportunities to be dirty. Grayson Allen could be dirty every play of the game. Bill Romanowski had seventy snaps a game. He's playing quarterback. He only has maybe one opportunity a week to be dirty, and more often than not he seems to take it. Yeah, he gator rolled Brian Burns. He multiple times against the Bears slid spikes up which would have gotten you a red card if you were playing for France in the World Cup. And he hit a guy in the groin, and then that play on Eli Apple was awful. And even after the play on eli Apple, CBS didn't give us a replay of it. But after Romandre's fumble, there was a little scrum and something happened in the scrum Worth all three refs through their flags and when they came out they said unsportsmanlike conduct number two ten. We didn't get to see what it was, but it was on mac Jones. Like I, all of his behavior, Colin remind you of some of the we've all known somebody or played sports with, somebody who's always yelling at teammates, who's always whining to his coaches, and who, when he gets a chance, will undercut you on a fast break or the football equivalent of it. Like I just we have a lot of evidence that on his usage rate, Colin on opportunities to be dirty and times he's dirty, is like Russell Westbrook the first year without Kevin Durant. It's off the charts. We've never seen anything like it. Finally, I said, listen, there's there's I said, the media is the irs. We're not built to be liked. We audit. Sometimes we give you a check, sometimes we ask for more. We're not built to be liked. Sometimes we have to ask tough questions. My knock on the media is too often we play hall monitor like we have all the answers. Shame on you, Shame on you, Shame on you. I'm guilty of it. And with Tuah, sometimes the media is he can't play again, You've got to take him off. And my thing is fine, I agree with you, But Tuah is going to fight like mad to play because now he's been bad and he's unavailable. And I do think this situation. I wouldn't play him, I'd sit him for the next two. But I think two is gonna fight like mad. They've already tried to move off him twice. And I think this situation with two is sad. It's difficult, it's more complex than everybody makes it out to be. Or maybe I'm wrong. How do you view it? No, No, listen, let me be serious for a moment. This is one of the things that I have a tremendous amount of respect for you for, which is everybody knows the easiest stance possible that you will get no pushback for, which is just say, protect the player from himself. It's bigger than the game. If you say that, you don't even have to really talk about it on TV. You move on. I think you're giving a more honest answer, and I respect that it takes in this format. You know, a measure of media courage if you will. So I'll walk down that same street with you, even though all you know there will be some I guess potential blowback for it, because I agree with you. So here's where I stand on professional football and protecting players and concussions. I think it is incredibly important in the game in the moment to protect guys from themselves because quite literally, they may not have their wits about them. They might not be thinking clearly if it is a potential head injury, and so having you know, the independent neurologist, all of that that comes in and says you are out, you cannot fight to get back in this football game does not matter. We agree. I think that's good. Yes, I also think, and this is I know people will tell me this is maybe archaic or caveman thinking. I also think that once you are then removed from that days later, no one thinks the hit is now affecting your ability to make rational decisions. Should we let pro athletes do something that might be against their long term health knowing all the information and making a grown up decision? I feel we should. I feel like this is very different than ten fifteen years ago, when people did not have the information about CTE, when guys did not know what the potential long term ramifications were. Guys were making decisions without having all the information. Right, But do I think grown adults should be allowed to be presented all the information and then make a choice for themselves. That says my long term health might be taking a side to my career pursuits, or my feeling of obligation to the team, or me wanting to be great and make sure I'm the quarterback of this team because I've sacrificed so much to get here. I do think we should let guys make that decision. Yeah, and I know that that is increasingly unpopular of an opinion to hold, but it's what I truly believe, So I'm glad, Like I think they need to do a better job within the game of taking guys out. But then post game. I think we need to have a more honest conversation about what we are. Okay with guys deciding they're going to subject themselves. Yeah, and that's what it's truly about. Because I said this earlier, is they they had a tampering with Brady, they had to give up a draft pick, Deshaun Watson, Ryan Fitzpatrick. They've moved on. This kid's not to a nose. He's probably gonna clear protocols and he's gonna fight like mad to play. And I just want us on the media to realize I wouldn't play him. I'd sit him. But it's not as simple as everybody. Well, he was hurt in the game, Yes, I guess he was. I didn't see it, but afterwards the reasoning makes a ton of sense. But I think sometimes you should sit him. But it's not as easy when you're a young man fighting for your career and you pass all the protocols and it's not and everyone acting like and here's the other thing, and then all and then I know I'm going too long. Everyone acting like that, we are going to ignore the sacrifices people have made, the choices they have made to get to this level and then act like their career is just like any other job. It's not. It's incredibly a short window. The opportunity to play is you don't have a fifty year career in the NFL. Most guys don't have a fifteen year career in the NFL. And guys have already made a lot of choices that they that are putting them their bodies in more jeopardy than if they did nearly anything else. And I just what I don't like, and I'm open to being wrong on this copy, but I don't like when people act like it's obvious, it's a no brainer, and anyone that you're not allowed to have a contrary opinion here. I think it's more nuanced than that. Yeah, I also think we're being totally honest. This would have been an even better discussion if every time you came on camera you weren't wearing a teal backwards heat. Yeah, we just had six minutes of great concussion commentary. And you look like I mean, I mean, you look like Steve Semi in those commercials. Like I think Jay Max got to let you out of the bet. I think you've paid your penance here. It's twenty five minutes of the hat. I think he's got to let you go. Great seeing you, buddy. As always Nick Wright, first things first, trumpets on their show. We got peanut brittle here for the holidays. That's all we got. We got no budget. Happy holidays all right. By the way, if you are turning in, I did lose a bet, Dolphins bet. It's an absolutely gorgeous hat. Most sports league's hats aren't this beautiful. But I lost it. I'm a man of my word, so there you go. Yeah, you know, but it is an interesting situation. I guess my whole point with two has been what if he passes concussion protocols? You have protocols and the doctors are like, you're good enough to play. I would feel really uncomfortable as a league. If I was Roger Goodell, I'd feel totally uncomfortable him playing this week. Yeah, Brier made a great point about the league possibly stepping in. I just wouldn't be. It's gonna be a high. Everybody's watching this game. It's huge for playoff implications. Miami New England rivalry, big spotlight on this game. You don't want something you know bad to happen. To the quarterback like a fourth concussion right back in the second Live in La, It's the Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays and noon Easter not a Empacific tomorrow on Fox. The Holidays keep on giving as fifteenth ranked Oregon takes on North Carolina in the San Diego Country Credit Union Holiday Bowl. That all kicks off at zeven thirty eastern, four thirty Pacific on Fox. Yeah, and the Fox Sports APT watch that. Watch that Bowl, and that'll be fun. There'll be some points in that game. Drake May, Yes, you know, keep an eye on him. I'll put some college football winnings on my Instagram if you're interested in. Yeah. No, Drake May is going to be the number one draft pick. He'll be two after Caleb william Well, I think, but Drake's younger. So Caleb next year, Drake the following year, well, I think he redshirted once. Are they the same year? My bad? So next year it'll be Caleb and Drake. We're gonna see some Wembin Yama level tanking in the NFL for Caleb Williams and Drake. Yeah, this kid's really special. Moves, big arm his brother played college hoops at UNC hit a great shot in the NCAA tournament at the buzzer to beat Kentucky. I believe so good. Some good jeans in that family. Yeah this watch the game for the kid. Yeah, that's what you should do, and then watch the Cotton Bowl for the Caleb Williams. Because you're looking at you're looking at franchise quarterbacks, which is always When I was a kid on January First, I would get out like a notepad and write down the players who look good in bowl games. That was such a life still as an adult. By the way, I'm wearing a hat on backwards because I lost a bet. I will take it off at the top of the hour. But I lost my bet, my man of ward, and I looked ridiculous. Kids don't vape J Mack with the news. No no turns. This is the herd Line news. You know. I kind of want to rattle off some of the some of the funny lines that have come in about the hat backwards. Can I start with one? Colin? You look like you have a very successful paper route. All right, we could probably have some fun this hour. Let's move Let's move on. Kyle let's start with Josh McDaniels and the Raiders. It's been a turbulent first year, so fascinated by this whole story, fascinated by it. Their playoff chances dipped significantly, losing two of their last three Derek Carr struggle during that stretch. McDaniel says he needs to see some improvement in the passing game. The passing game and the production of the passing game, you know, usually has a lot to do with um. You know, how we protect you know, the routes we run, they ability to read the coverage together, throwing and catching, um, you know, there's a lot that goes into that. So I know that that statistic gets applied to just one person, but certainly there's you know, there's other factors, um you know. So I mean, look at that's not good enough, you know what I mean. And for us to be able to win at this time of the year and be productive offensively, you have to throw the ball, you know, better than what we've thrown it at times here in the last month and a half. It's a lot of word salad to say that my quarterback has not played well. No, I mean is this I mean, look at the choke up he gets when he says, that's that you know, that's not how we know. I mean, it's I've always thought I would bring him back, but there's no dead cap hit up. Note. So when I watched that press conference and I watched that game, that feels like he's he's got a contract that secure Garoppolo college kid. But that that press conference spoke more than just those words, and you know the owner is not happy. He's had a couple of meetings with McDaniels after games. All McDaniels has to say is, well, I don't have my quarterback. I need my guy. He can't run my system. Okay, go get your quarterback. Ye next up, Justin Jefferson is having a tremendous season. Colin already broken Randy Moss's Vikings record for most receiving yards in a season. He's sitting at seventeen hundred and fifty six yards. He was asked about the possibility of a receiver winning the NFL MVP. He said that he thinks he should be in the conversation this year. Now. According to Fox Bet, here are the odds. Jefferson a long shot. Shall we say to win the NFL MVP. If you notice Jalen Hurts has tumbled down the list, I think that's a sign that he probably will not play this week, or that you know it's mahomes Is to lose. What do you think about justin Jefferson, Well, I wouldn't give it to him just because it's due, right, Like, I don't think that's yea. When they gave Westbrook the MVP, it was more of a story that you know, he had the ball in his hands. But I do think this is the rare player that doesn't play quarterback or running back. They are eleven and oz and one possession games. That Buffalo game was one of the top three or four receiver moments I can ever remember. Now, there may have been many that were better. I mean, Randy Moss had a couple of unbelievable games with Brady, But if you go back to that game, Kirk Cousins on the road against Buffalo defense, his history tells you he gets blown out in that game. That was Kirk cousins most impressive win and it was the most impressive moment by a receiver this year. So that moment was like whoa, whoa, what are we looking at here. This is Randy mossed up, literally a taking over a game. I believe he goes up against JayR Alexander this weekend in a Packers Vikings game that is enormous. Minnesota's got to lose one of these one possession games. This feels like Green Bay's weekend. No team in NFL history has won this many one games, didn't ever, it feels like it's green Bay's weekend. Ken's up for Packers Lions in week eighteen. Packers they need some help from the Giants are watching him. But let me ask I think the Packers are getting in. I don't want to speak for our management, especially since I'm wearing my hat on backwards. I shouldn't speak for a vapor. But if you're asking me if it's a bad thing that Aaron Rodgers can sneak into the playoffs, that's a great thing for all of us. Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs. Nothing against Jared Goffin, the other guys on the line. That's a green Bay Packers are a top three brand. That's like, you don't have to love dak or Mike McCarthy Cowboys in the playoffs, Green band in the playoffs. It's fantastic for all of them. Who would you rather watch against Sam fran Carson Wentz or Aaron Rodgers. Here's a scary thing. I don't know that Rogers will have ever come into the playoffs with lower expectations, right, they weren't. There's no pressure on them. That's last year there was pressure and no, that's a very good point. They're getting healthier. Um, I still wish they'd run more with Aaron. I love Aaron Joe. I don't know what happened to him, man, I have him on my fantasy team. I don't care, but I'm stuck by into the final seat. He didn't do anything. Connie, time to buy some Packers win the NFC futures. I mean, Eagles are beat up, you Cowboys defense has gotten shredded the last three. Buccaneers only can play in two minute offense by garbage. Buccaneers are terrible right now. And the other team is Minnesota, who we don't trust at all. San Frid Packers and Aaron Rodgers could make things very interesting here. Final story, Colin, Let's go to the NBA. Anthony Davis has been out since injury his foot in December sixteenth, Lakers one and four without it. By the way, I was at the Lakers Hornets game Friday, Yeah, I got some tickets, took kids. Yeah. At devastating loss for the Lakers, I mean goodness, greatness Hornets to the worst or the worst teams in the league. Um, at any rate, losing the last four in a row for the Lakers. They lost to the Maps on Christmas. Lebron has made it clear that they miss Anthony Davis's reality is that, you know, without eighty, you know, we lose a lot of length, which we don't have already. So um, you know we have to make up, you know, in ways that you know, without a d is just it's very difficult, very challenging. Um So I think one at one point we had a lineup of I think I think a r It was the tallest gun in the court. Yeah, yeah, so it's not a Rockets and then a rocket sciences to figure that out. Lebron is having an unbelievable season all NBA levels, for sure. No, I mean he is. If I said to you five best players in the league, he's on the list. Jannis is obviously there, Lucas there, Steph Curry's hurt, but you got he's there, Lebron James And then your call is it Yo Kich? Is it Jason Tatum? Jason Tatum off the charts right now? Yeah, the internet loves Yo Kitch. But can I see something in the playoffs before it's fair? It's fair Jamal Murray carried them in the playoffs in the bubble. Okay, let's do real. Sorry. I like Yo Kich, he's really good, but Lebron at his age, it's insane. He had two dunks in a game. You may have been at this game, No, it was the game before then. Yeah, he had a couple of dunks in the game, and ask like, take your breath away stuff, Tomahawks. He's in year twenty. Yeah, I mean like Brady. Well, I mean if Brady winning the Super Bowl. The weirdest part is Lebron leaving it all on the court and then two players go to help him up, and you're like Max Christie, who the hell is that? And Austin Reeves like Lebron he's really playing with a bad line. No, I mean he is Lebron in any eight minute spurt. Next, if you take out Yannis in any eight minute. Spur is the best player in the league. Still, would you hold it against him if he went into Ropolinka's office and do something? Out me, what are we doing? Why he should be doing this? Of course, at some point you pay Ma Holmes, you pay Lebron, you pay these great players they get one time. Now. Now Lebron did that with Westbrook, that's correct. So Lebron's done it more than the media knows. Kind of going in and saying I want this. Lebron wanted Westbrook, the front office wanted Buddy Healed. So a little bit of this bed has been made by Lebron. In fairness, he's out of Lebron just said, you don't have to do what I want to do. Do something. Get me a third or fourth guy. We need help here. Yeah, I get it. Jamack with the news, Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by. The herde A couple of interesting stories. There's a team with Tom Brady that nobody's talking about, and it feels unbelievably obvious to me. Hat on backwards. I lost a bet. Only ten more minutes of it live in LA. It's the Herd. Welcome back, hat on Backwards ten more Minutes, Lost a beat? Dolph lost to green Bay. Good for green Bay though. So Tom Brady was on his podcast Let's Go with Jim Gray. Remember Tom Brady didn't want to retire. Tom Brady's wife at the time, Gazelle, wanted Tom Brady to retire. Tom Brady's father has been quoted saying in the last year, I don't think my son wants to retire. So Brady addressed retirement on his podcast with Jim Gray. Well, I think next time I decided to retire, that's it for me. So whenever that day comes, we'll figure it out. You know. I think what I really realized last year was, you know, you've got to be really sure to do that. And you know, for me, you know, it's a lot of people have kind of gone through a situation. I'm going to take my time whenever that time does come. Okay, there's an obvious one for Tom Brady, and that is San Francisco. His parents are aging, They've got a plug in play roster where he can be a Super Bowl favorite the minute he arrives, with an offensive coach and a Hall of Fame left tackle. He will if offered take the Niners job. He will consider the Raiders job. With very good offensive pieces in the entertainment capital of North America, with a head coach who was his former coordinator, he will consider it. But nobody's talking about the Miami Dolphins folks fastest wide receiver tandem maybe in league history. Jalen Waddle's a star. Tyreek Hills maybe a bigger star. Capable running backs, Mike Gasecki's an excellent young tight end, a Hall of Fame level left tackle, a brilliant offensive coach that runs the same system Kyle Shanahan does, which is not quarterback dependent. Take a snap, three steps, get it out, read the defense. It is a perfect system for Brady. And by the way, the Dolphins already had to give up a pick for tampering, might as well get something out of it. They were interested before in Brady. He stays in the state. He stays on the East Coast. I was told when the Chargers made a run at him, and I don't know if this was Tom or Gizelle, but at the time he thought he didn't want to be that far away, kids, school, all that stuff. Now, I think he would go to the Bay Area now as his parents age, that's the obvious one. He's not going to New England. They got no weapons. To get that off the board, but Miami feels really, really strong left tackle, offensive coach, lots of weapons and organization. He's played, by the way, just throw this out there. So the Jets don't have their quarterback and New England's got an average one. So he looks at that division and he says, all I gotta do is beat Josh Allen. So he's already beaten Mahomes in a Super Bowl, right, so he's proven head to head. I got Mahome's number. Joe Burrows got a lot of weapons too. Wherever he goes, he's gonna want weapons. Miami's got the two fastest wide receivers arguably in the league, the fastest tandem ever. So wouldn't it be great if he goes to Miami has the tandems and can say I beat Mahomes in his prime, I beat Allen and his prime, and Burrow couldn't get past me. It pretty attractive, right, I'm gonna face Burrow and Mahomes and Allen, especially Burrow and Mahomes, you better have weapons. Miami has absolutely got him. So it's something to think about. Let me let me there's another topic I want to touch on here, Cliff Kingsbury Apparently his future with the Cardinals could It's got about two weeks on it, right, two weeks left in the season, and he's twenty eight, thirty five and one. I kind of feel with Cliff Kingsbury something most of you probably feel. I feel he's a college coach. He's good looking, young, a lot of energy, recruiting takes a lot of that energy. I think he'd be a great college coach. I've said if Brett Vennibles doesn't work in Oklahoma, I would hire Cliff Kingsbury in a second. But I think he also gets exposed because of the division he's in. Kyle Shanahan, Sean mcvahon, Pete Carroll. He sticks out like a coach that doesn't know what he's doing. In all the years in Arizona, they've never had a top ten offense, and that's with a very talented quarterback, good tight ends and star weapons. Never had a top ten offense. I think college coaching and NFL coaching, it's easier today to make that transition. Lou Holtz was a disaster, Spurrier disaster. Saban did not work out, Lou Holtz, Bobby Petrino did not work out. I think it's easier today than it's ever been. But Matt Rule was a ready good college coach, and that thing in Carolina was a tire fire. So I think Kingsbury never had a winning record as a college coach, but it was at a second tier college program. I think if you give him the brand, the name, the recruiting power and the money of Oklahoma. He returns damn to a very formidable team. That's if Brett Venables doesn't work, he may work. But Chip Kelly worked for an instant wore people out. Greg Schiano kind of work for an instant war people out. In college football, the coach controls everything. In the NFL, the owner and the quarterback control everything, and the GM controls the draft. So there's certain personalities that work in college. Certain personalities, I mean, dominating personality Siano, Saban, Spurrier, Holtz, Petrino s don't work in the NFL. Kingsbury does not have a dominating personality, so I thought it could work. He's not somebody that has to control everything. Chip Kelly wanted more control in Philadelphia. He alienated Howie Roseman and eventually how he's now back to running the franchise. It is a hard hard It's a hard sell now when you look at recent momentum to hire the college coach, I think it's a really hard sell Lincoln Riley In four or five years, probably somebody will make a huge run at him. But if you look at what's happening, Sean mcvay's assistant. Zach Taylor's in the super Bowl. The guy in Minnesota's crushing Brandon Staley just made the playoffs. It looks like the way to get the right coach. If you're not hiring a head coach, hire an assistant from a highly capable coach not named Belichick. Okay, our staff found it. I said, I have to wear this hat on backwards for this hour. I'll take it off in a second. And I said, the shame in all of it is what a great logo it is. It looks so much better like this. So our staff went and found the all time. I said, have they changed their logo? Of course they have. They had the helmet. I forgot that. And also now the dolphin looks more happier where it's you know, it's heading in the right direction. They've kind of moved its tail. That is though I think the best logo in You don't think stock Overboard. You don't think that it's a really good logo at top ten logo in the league. But colin. Another joke just came in. Someone said, after the show, you look like you're gonna go clean somebody's pool with the hat backwards. You know, pool cleaner guy out here in La is busy. Have you seen the weather forecast for LA for the next ten days? Not that warm? No, I mean forget the warm like you know. The rest of the country is getting the Arctic blast. Weather is a change, and we're getting ten days a wet which for the state and the drought situation. It's the only state I've ever lived in I root for rain. We're gonna getting some good news for all the farmers in the state and all the people struggling with droney advice on how to walk a dog in the rain. My dog does not like to get wet. Put your hat on backwards. Tell people not the vape. That is the way to do it. All right, We're going to the third hour in our show, Mercedes Lewis. So the packers here comes green Bay. They are hot, they are rolling, and for the record, they get Detroit and Minnesota Dome teams outside in Lambeaux, huge edge green Bay down the stretch. It's the herd
