Did I miss anything, little feeling? Not much happened in the NFL Draft that they sent me the stories. I'm like, this is the same time we were talking about three weeks ago.
Well in the draft, yes, but you know, sometimes you get caught up in the moment you watch a game like I'm watching the Clippers Nuggets last night. Those teams, it's a coin flip series. I mean, those who knows I'm gonna take Clippers in six or seven if the Nuggets won. But when you watch the Knicks and the Pistons, you thought coming into it, well, the Neck's gonna make pretty quick work of them. Detroit's young one young star. Hey, you know, hey, got a couple of rotational old guys. They're not quite ready. The only reason the Knicks are not down two nothing in this series is campaign. That's it. What a big fourth quarter in Game one eleven of is what fourteen points? This was a bad night for Cat and it was a bad night for Tips. Cat no field goal attempts in the fourth quarter, he didn't score in the third, the fourth quarter, and Tibbs, just like a defensive NFL head coach, no feel for offense. Clearly the Knicks. You watch that twenty one to nothing run in Game one. Clearly the Knicks are better with pace and tempo when they're moving up the floor, but often they become very static and very stale offensively. And we all like Jalen Brunson, but between the eighteen dribbles and nine pump fakes. The rest of the Knicks are standing around watching them. And it's young Detroit we perceive as less talented Detroit that's playing with more tempo. It's sharing the ball. I mean, the Knicks gave up six first round picks to get Karl Anthony Towns and McHale Bridges and they combined in the second half for six points. They're standing around watching, so there's no tempo to the Knicks. And we've said this about Mike Tomlin with Pittsburgh. At some point you can keep changing coordinators and quarterbacks and center. You don't have a feel for it. And the Knicks don't have a feel for offense. And we all like Jalen Brunson a lot, but this happened last year why they lost to the Pacers. Jalen Brunson led in usage rate and a little guy ball in his hands, constantly dribbling, getting hit to the line, fouled. You just run out of guess this is very much. And he's not as talented offensively as James Harden, But it's Luca a couple of years ago getting exhausted in the playoffs. It's Harden is OHA's exhausted the later he goes to the playoffs. The late Kobe Bryant used to tell young players, you can't have the ball in your hands all the time. You know, you gotta let somebody else run the offense occasionally occasionally. So, Brunson, this is not gonna end well for this team. Hell, it may not end well now against Detroit, but you're not beating the Cavs roster, the Celtics roster, and let's be totally honest, the Pacers roster. If Jalen Brunson is the offense and everybody's standing around. So I think this is problematic. The only reason they have been dominated in this game this series except for a twenty one Zhering run and campaign was on fire in Game one late in the game. Otherwise, and I'm telling you, this feels so Pittsburgh Steelers to me, where it's like I like the roster, I like a lot of the players, but it's like the same thing a year after year. They can't figure out the offense. And it's so obvious you can't have the number one usage rate guy in the league. That guy is gonna get worn out. This roster's already not as good as Cleveland and Boston. It's not as good as Oklahoma City, and I could argue it's not particularly close with all three. And they're probably eventually gonna move cat, meaning they'll give up more of their good players in draft capitol. So this just can't be a Jalen Brunson team. He's not that good. He's good, very good. He's not that he's not transformational. He's not carrying them the championship. And here's Jalen ana after.
It's very tough when there's there's definitely one ball and they'll we have a lot of great players on this team, and definitely it's it's on my shoulders. I'm not going to point a free age and say some people need to do that. In this it's it's on me to make sure I set the table. So I'll go back and I'll figure out what I need to do, We'll have conversations, and we'll come back better for Game three.
Okay, Well, the good news is he's a smart kid, Villanova, self awareness, looking in the mirror, not pointing fingers. I mean, that's that's the good news. And that's why he's so good at New York because if you're if you're a finger pointer, the New York media and the talk shows will eat you alive. So you know, he always owns it. You feel bad when you criticize him because he's such a smart guy and such a good guy, and he totally gets it. But some of this may just be coaching, Like this is kind of Tibbs. Tibbs always hits that sort of ceiling where we're like, listen, I love defense too, but go watch go watch the Nuggets and Clippers. Oh, I got buckets. Go watch Game one. Jokic got the buckets. That's what the league is, even in the playoffs. So I saw this story this morning. It's it's a wonky draft. There's a lot of stuff coming out. Giants considering trading up for a quarterback Jackson Dart later in the first round, so they would take somebody else, the best player available, like an Abdul Carter. Then later they'd pass on you to or Sanders, and later they would come up and get Jackson Dart. So this is one of the things. You know, the one advantage to age if you're reasonably observant, is you see people make mistakes and you don't even have to make them. You can just avoid other people's mistakes because you've seen so many. And if you look in the NFL and any business, bad businesses tend to overcompensate for previous mistakes and reach. You know, it's like the Jets giving Aaron Rodgers too much power because they missed on Zach Wilson, or the Browns paying Deshaun Watson the guaranteed contract, or the Giants, you know, choosing Daniel Jones over Saquon Barkley. It's just bad organizations over compensating for previous bad decisions. So the idea of the Giants now think Jackson Dart is the dude for the future in New York. Let me just ask you this. You ever notice that a lot of the quarterbacks that don't make it, you weren't paying a lot of attention to in college, and they suddenly got really hot after they stopped playing college football. Ej. Manuel Blake, Portles, Paxton Lynch, Zach Wilson, Daniel Jones. We never talked about him when they were playing in college. Suddenly when they stop playing and they got a combine or film films come out, everybody's like, oh my god, it's Daniel Jones. I watch Daniel Jones play. I watched him play at Duke. Never thought he was a first round quarterback. I didn't watch Paxton Lynch play in college. His games weren't on. Now you could say, well, what about Josh Allen. I got a binder from Great co Sell when Josh Allen was a junior in college at Lousey, Wyoming. He's like, this guy is a superstar in the making. Patrick Mahomes people were doing a year before Patrick Mahomes entered his last year of college, Brett Veach went to Andy Reid and said, watch this kid. So the smart teams in this league, you know, they knew who Patrick Mahomes was. Brett Veach was a year ahead everybody else in his division. They were like, look at this tape, and Andy's like okay, okay, okay. And he kept bringing tape standy. So he was not somebody that just suddenly got hot. But I say this about Jackson Dart his last two years with Lane Kiffin as a coach, and Ole Miss has big time players. They went and bought big time players the last couple of years Jackson Dart in the SEC. I mean, had he beaten Kentucky, they probably get into the playoff. How did he do against Kentucky seventeen points? How did he go against Bama, Georgia, and Florida the last two years and by the way, Flora stunk and Alabama had his worst team since two thousand and seven? How did he do against those teams the last two years? With Lane Kiffen more picks than touchdowns, fifty eight percent completion percentage. He won one game, and in that game he had thirteen completions. So it's like, you know, like even Tua, who I don't love. We were talking about Tua the year before he came out. Trevor Lawrence hasn't been as good as we thought. We were talking about Trevor Lawrence when he was a freshman. Matt Stafford. You know, most of the guys that end up being stars in this league, we have an idea who they are as they enter their last year, and there's a lot of talk. I mean, Arch Manning is already being discussed as the number one pick. He didn't start for Texas, So Mitch Trubisky was another guy. It's suddenly like, oh, Mitch Trubisky got better when he stopped playing. It's like, wait a minute. I watched him at Carolina. He's a front leg thrower. How are you telling me the first round pick Keedny Pickett's another guy. All of his flaws disappeared once he stopped playing. So I'm not anti any of these guys. But I never once looked at Zach Wilson at BYU. I saw him play Utah twice in the Huskies. I never thought first round quarterback. And then everybody's trying to convince me of it after the fact. So I do think Jackson Dart has talent. I hope he does well. I root for young people, but this feels like, you know, giants would move up to get him. Boy, oh boy? Is this over compensation?

Daniel Jeremiah NFL Scout three team, Now, this is a week draft, so in a very weak draft, can you argue he's a late first rounder? I wouldn't others what Here's Daniel Jeremiah on the show yesterday.
The way I would sell you on him, you know, in terms of the value there. It reminds me a lot of Hurts, you know, just when Hurts was coming out, and that you follow the trend line with Hurts, Hurts got better every year. He is a strong, sturdy guy. He's a Jim Ratt who's obsessed with being good. All the intangible stuffs off the charts. The toughness is there, the intelligence is there. So to me, I think you're just buying that. That trend line just keeps on going. I could see Brian daball fielm like he's a little bit better fit for that environment that they're in there in terms of the wheather, you're gonna be playing in, the wind, all those things.
Now, remember though, with Jalen Hurts, best offensive line in football, Davontae Smith, Dallas Goddard, AJ Brown, Saquon Barkley, best general manager in football. So that's different. Jalen Hurts goes to a aggressive, winning organization in a pretty bad division. The Giants are the bad team in that division, and they're not near as good as Washington now or Philadelphia, and I'd argue Dallas probably has as good a roster. So I think those are two different situations. But the argument is he keeps getting better, he keeps getting better, and this is not a shot on the kid's and I'm sure if this kid saw the video. Oh this guy hates me. They don't. This is more about the Giants because I've watched this in my entire life. You know, the Jets did this, The Giants did this, Cleveland Browns did this. When when bad organizations or poorly run organizations tend to reach and overcompensate for previous mistakes, and I don't now. And again it's a week draft, so maybe this is the year. But it's I look at all these guys who suddenly get better when they stopped playing, and you could say, well, what about Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson was great in college. The question with Lamar was because he ran so much in high school and college, will he be a good pocket quarterback in the NFL. It wasn't that he wasn't amazing as an athlete. It was I mean, there were people saying, I don't think he's a quarterback. I thought he was a quarterback. But it was a different conversation. Don't make that the same conversation Lamar. Everybody said he'll be the best athlete in the league. I mean, he's gonna be an That wasn't the question. The question was stylistically, Jackson darts to pocket quarterback. I just never watched him with Lane Kiffen and all those players, because I watch ole Miss football for the big games. I never watched him and went, wow, first round quarterback. What do I know? I mean, you know, except I'm right a lot Other than that, there's an old saying don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry and the giants are starving at quarterback. You know, I used to always have a thing when I would go to Vegas, and I don't go to Vegas much anymore, but when I would go to Vegas and I gambled, I always had one rule. And the staff always laughs at this. I would I would always gamble hungry. So the biggest time I would ever gamble was pre dinner. It'd be like four thirty to five thirty. I would go down on the floor and play blackjack. Okay why because if I hit eight or nine out of twelve hands, I knew it wasn't gonna I couldn't sustain it, and I'd say, boom, six fifteen, let's go to dinner. You'd never want to go gamble when you're full, because it's like you're you know, you're you're tired. I'll just sit there. Well, over the course of seventy five hands, you're not going to win fifty five hands, but you can hit like, you know, six of your first ten hands, walk away with three hundred bucks and go have dinner drinks on me. So, by the way, you know, people will say what about Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes as a sophomore threw for over four hundred yards four times. So the smart people you've heard Gruden tell stories about this and Brett Feach, the smart guys in the league knew what he was like as a sophomore. Everybody was like his dad played Major League baseball. His final year of college, he threw for over four hundred and fifty yards six times. So the question with him was, you know that conference, the Big twelve, does that offense carry to the It wasn't that Mahomes didn't have talent. I watched them one time in college and it was wild. It was like Canadian football. It was like three down football, just slinging it everywhere, no run game. So there you go.
Yeah, the Shadour at three to the Giants. Joe Shane made such a mistake with the Daniel. He has to make up for that or he's gonna lose a job and you can't tell me that he's thinking, I'll keep my job if we get Jackson Dart.
Well, here's what happens. If you draft a quarterback and you're a shaky general manager, You'll get another year, right, You'll get another year as a GM, because everybody's gonna wait and see if it becomes magic, and that would save you.
Well, that applies to first round guys, right, second round quarterback.
Probably, No, that's right. That's why I'm saying, if you move up and fick a first round quarterback, it's a little bit of a life preserver for a year for a GM that's in trouble because it's like, well, he showed real promise in those preseason games, which, by the way, in the preseason now nobody plays starters and historically nobody blitzes. Right, So you draft a quarterback late first round. He looks good against scout team guys in the exhibition season in August, and everybody's like, hey, Joe Shane may have found the next my homes. Zach Wilson looked good in preseason. You gotta slow down, you remember that, I do. Yeah, yeah, but that so that's there's a lit And don't kid yourself. There are gms in this league drafting to save their job. Don't kid yourself. They're drafting guys who have injury reports but can play immediately, but may have a lower ceiling because they can get on the field over a guy who's not ready to play as a rookie but has a much greater growth projectile. So be careful. One of the things that happened a couple of days, was it yesterday of the day before Nico Harrison. Oh my lord, so he is talking about that Luca trade. And it's really interesting because I've talked to somebody that I won't mention their name, who doesn't hold Nico in a high opinion. But something I have learned throughout the course of life why you should never surround yourself with a yes man and why you should never be a loaner. And I'll explain that coming up.

One of the things that is really true, and it doesn't really matter if you're Nike, You're the Dallas Mavericks, you're major League Baseball, NASCAR. It doesn't really matter who it is that you need to grow and you need to take chances. You don't want to be the Cincinnati Bengals who never move on the draft. You want to be Philadelphia. Now, Philadelphia, even with their moves, has made mistakes, and you have to be comfortable with making mistakes. But when I watched the Mavericks Nico Harrison make the Luca trade, my first take was, is he a loaner? Very few successful men are loaners like Elon Musk. You don't have to like him. He's not a loaner. Now. He works all day, he's obsessive, but he's got a big circle of influence. This is why you know, public companies have a board of directors. So if you're going to take chances, you have a lot of voices and a lot of opinions going into your big chances. So Nico Harrison said this regarding the Luca disaster trade.
I didn't know that Luca was important to the to the fan base. I didn't quite know it to what level. But really the way we looked at it is you know, if you're putting on the if you're putting a team on the floor, that's Kyrie Clay pj Anthony Davis and Lively. We filled that's a championship caliber team, and we would have been winning at a high level, and that would have quieted some of the outrage.
He keeps saying, we we, we we Mark Cuban didn't know about it, and Jason Kidd didn't get a heads up? Who's we some low level intern scout. I mean, what if Mark Cuban, pretty smart guy, I'd lean on him, didn't know. Jason Kidd, pretty smart guy, he didn't know. There's a story this morning that Jason Kidd resents it not being given a heads up like you're either a loaner and that qualifies you as being a GM. And this is one of the things that guys can struggle with. Women are more social than we are. They talk when they go to the bathroom, right, Guys don't. That's why there's a you know, there's seriously, there's a race for the cure. Women are there for each other during medical crisises crises. There is no race for the prostate. Right, Guys don't talk about medical stuff a guy can go golfing for six hours. You get home and your wife goes, what'd you talk about? And you're like, I don't know the depth chart for the Chargers? Who's quarterbacking the Bears? How are the kids doing well? I didn't ask him about his kids? Well, how are him and Shelley doing well? I didn't ask him about his wife? You golf for six hours? How did you not ask?
Well?
I did. We talked about the Bears. That's who we are as guys. So it's very important that guys make an effort to be social. And when I watched this Nico Harrison thing, my whole take is, bro, don't you have a circle of friends? Well, it was very private guys, marriage company house. You always got a guy you bounce it off of. Because when that deal happened, the very first thing all of us did, you, me and everybody, we went, that's that's fake. That's not a real trade. You're gonna tell me. Nobody in your social circle said bro, one first round pick, Luka dondis, what come on, Bro, you gotta get more than that. So the whole thing when I hear this that we we we well. Jason Kidd didn't know. Mark Cuban didn't know. By the way, the media that covers the Mavericks, there wasn't a sniff of it. So we didn't tell many people. I don't know who we is, but this is something. Guys are not social animals, but there are very few billionaires who are loaners or who are yes men. You gotta be willing to just ask buddy, ask friends, ask your scouts. You got to be willing for people to go You're totally wrong on something. I can't believe that everybody we that he talked to said yeah, I love the move. I can't believe that. That's not fun because every single one of us and we're just media. You're either in the media, you're a fan. Nobody thought the deal was real. I mean we were all like, what what happened? So here's Charles Barkley talking about Nico's pressery yesterday.
Man, don't do no more press conferences, Clake. I don't even know what you're doing. I really don't like. I got sympathy and love for you, but I have zero idea what you're trying to do. This war is over, brother, you you go to take you taken the ill. I hope you keep your job. I hope that team get healthy. But man, don't do any more interviews.
Yeah, the more he talks, the worse it gets. And I just I I understand taking a risk. I mean, Nike has done things as a company, and you're like, that's a bad ad campaign. One of the things I say privately to my staff all the time when we, you know, we were talking about sometimes media or stuff, I always say, did somebody in the room not raise their hand and go, yeah, that show's not going to work or that higher is terrible. I can't believe nobody in the Mavericks circle of trust or Nico circle of trust didn't go, guys, this is idiotic. One first round pick and Anthony Davis and I'm I'm an ad fan, like you got to get a d Austin Reeves in three to four first round picks to even sleep on it.
J Mack with a news no, no, no, this is the headline news.
Right on a little more than forty eight hours to the NFL Draft, and according to report, the Giants are kind of split on who to take. It seems like the front office and the coaching staff are not on the same page front office supposedly wants a quarterback. While it might be Shadoor Sanders. It seems like the head coach, Brian Dable, is not as keen on Shador, and that could be why the Giants are targeting Jackson Dart a little later. I would hope this reports true, Colin, because if you're forty eight hours on the draft and your front office and they coach are split, that ain't great.
That looks like it's finger pointing in the blame game. No, let me just tell you this is exactly what I've heard that day Ball likes Jackson Dart and Joe Shane prefers Shadoor Sanders. This is not a well kept secret. I was told that over the weekend from somebody in the league who has pretty good connections in the NFCS. So I trust my source on this. This is and here's the thing about about Shadoor Sanders. You got fifty games on it is a little concerning. If I, let's say you own the New York Giants, I think Joe Shane is disqualified from making the decision. I would lean on day Ball because Joe Shane, I watched HBO Max allowed Saquon Barkley to leave and gave an extension to Daniel Jones. So I think. I think if I own the team and this happens all the time, I would not trust him. And by the way, there are very well run organizations where the owner has a big say. It's kind of understood in the NFL. Steve Bashati with the Ravens has influenced even on draft weekend. So it's not all owners aren't crazy. They're billionaires generally pretty smart and make good decisions on average. But I I right now, I don't know if I own this team, I could trust the general manager, which is a bad spot to be in.
If you go back to that Lamar Jackson move with the Ravens, like you were mentioning, they built an offense around his skill set. Right. They may not have loved Lamar as a prospect, but hey, we can work with something here and next thing you know, he's a two time MVP. If Dabules sees Jackson dirt could do what I want him to do. He fits my system. I think you got to go with what the coach says, right, But the GM knows my job's on the line because of the Daniel Jones contract. Coach ain't given out contracts I am, and he gave out the Daniel Jones one.
It kind of I think it applies him from making because remember, if you draft a quarterback in the first round, that's two years minimum. You have to commit to it. And if it's the wrong guy, like even I mean Kenny Pickett a year and a half in, Mike Tomlin, who doesn't have great offensive feel, was like, this isn't working. You could tell about eight games in Kenny Pickett probably wasn't well. I would just pull the trigger on Shador and that's what I would do. All That's what you know.
We watched a full season of this guy. He's a damn good quarterback all season September, October, November. We're thinking he's the number one pick or top five pick for sure, and now.
Nobody wants them. It just feels a little weird.
Anyways, Let's move on to Devonte Adams Colonies on his third team in the last four years, after signing with the Rams this offseason. In a recent interview, he discussed the dysfunction he's been around at his last two stops, joking that he'll find out if he was the one making those organizations dysfunctional. He added it joining the Rams is true optimism instead of just true hope. And the most important thing was joining a good winning team. So he went from a Packers team where they were always contending for the Super Bowl, number one seed and everything, to six and eleven Raiders, eight to nine Raiders, and then last year Raiders and Jets were terrible.
Yeah, the Rams do a pretty good job of this, of finding value. They've done this a few times. He was He actually started playing very well with Aaron Rodgers down the stretch. It took a while to get going because they had some coaching movement. But I think this guy is still On any Sunday with like Matt Stafford, you will feel like, oh, he's still a one. There's not a doubt in my mind he can still play. He may not be one hundred and twenty five catch guy, is he a seventy eight catch guy with six touchdowns? Because Poka's drawing double coverage on the other side, and Tyler Higbee the tight end good running back, so it's not like you can just roll your coverage over him. He's going to be open a lot. And I thought they found some value with him.
Good coach, great quarterback. I think he's in great shape. The Week Guy hosted, we had a gambling guy on and his pick for the Super Bowl. You want to let do an exacta was Bill's Rams.

I thought that was a little surprising, but they might. They might be the best team in the out of No. No, it's not a lie. It's not the Lions anymore.
Right, Well, I think Philadelphia deserves the respect, but it's just just never forget when Philadelphia was rolling over people. The Rams went into a snowstorm and had the ball to fifteen yard line, and if they didn't have a six round center against Jalen Carter and had protection, they probably win the game and go to the NFC Championship, where they would be favored over Jayden Daniels. I mean that's and by the way, if the Rams got to the Super Bowl, the Chiefs left tackle situation with Jared Verse, they matched up very well with the Chiefs who were down tackles.
Final story, Collins to the NBA tonight, Lakers hosting the Timberwolves in Game two. I'm sure you're gonna be there, right, it's a big one, must win for the Lakers. I don't know.

You know, in the NFL, even in football, we've found that buys are not a big advantage people, even in football where you're tackled. Everybody's sore by the number one seed by at home. Remember the Chiefs played the Texans. You're like, beck Sims are giving Kansas any issues. So it's like, I think eight days off?
And then did they were fifty from three at twenty one threes? I mean they were plus eighteen on threes in a game that was like, you know, it should have been closer than that.

Now, do you want to get exotic and bet on the Grizzly thunder game?
Do you think the Grizzly kid bounce back? No, not even first quarter. I think the Grizzlies are completely dysfunctional, completely dysfunctional operation. Coach. Is that the right coach, is that the right star point guard. I just I think there were a dysfunctional franchise, and I think they're gonna get in. Oklahoma City's really really good and deep well coached smartly. GM the Oklahoma cities don't play around them.
Is a must win for Reddick, though he's got to show up here, your boy. Chris Finch coached a really good game win. They just had to get one game in LA. They got it.
I think you're right. The problem for the Lakers is they're a bad road team all year and Minnesota is a very solid road team. So now the Lakers are at a home court disadvantage and they have not closed out games on the road sub five hundred's. That's for a good team. That Yeah, jmck with a.

So it is sort of eye opening when Chris Sims goes on his show on NBC and says this about brock Purty, who's in contract negotia.
The Steelers want brock Purty as their quarterback? Would they want them right? Would they want to do it? Like, hey, listen, if it might be too late in the game to make a move like that for the forty nine Ers now, but damn, if I had something to say about it, I would have been like, let's just blow this thing up, Let's trade him away to somebody, and let's get somebody else at quarterback for the future and build this team again.
That's what I would want to do. That's what I would do. He has a market. There's six teams every year to eight that are desperate at quarterback. Okay, don't confuse lucky with foundational. Let's say you go to a grog sale, you buy a picture for fifteen twenty bucks. Twenty years later Antiques Road Show comes to your town and you sell it for twenty grand. That's lucky. Okay, that's lucky. That doesn't make it a business. What do you do for a living? Oh, I just go to garage sales and I pay twenty dollars for paintings and I sell them for twenty thousand dollars. That's not a business. Just be grateful. If the Niners are so brilliant, then why did they pass on Brock thirty six seven times the whole league did? They got lucky and he fits the system, especially when they're all healthy. Smart kid recognize his defense quickly. Not a big arm but he kind of fits the system. Doesn't have a big ego. He'll do what Kyle says. And this offense went healthy two years ago, three years ago. When he came into the league, was stacked. They were Super Bowl favorites. Every year. They were stacked. Let Pittsburgh make a mistake, call the New York Giants. Somebody that seven to eight teams every year are desperate. He's smaller than you'd like. Arm Is Okay already had two injuries to his throwing shoulder or throwing elbow. Shoulder and he does not play particularly well in inclement weather because of hand size. Don't don't confuse him as a franchise fifty five fifty eight million dollars a year quarterback. I'm not saying he can't be a franchise quarterback. But Kyle Shanahan, go look at his record against winning teams or when the weather's a little inclement. I've always said this, the difference between the haves and have nots in this league. Gino Smith with a run game in protection, can win you nine to ten games. I'm not paying him fifty five million dollars. I like Sam Darnold. I'd pay him thirty three million dollars. You're talking fifty five million. Puka Nakua said it last week. It's like windows closed. Don't don't confuse finding a twenty thousand dollars painting in a garage sale is you're a brilliant. So I I to me, don't even compare them to Jalen Hurts, who is a second round quarterback. People say, well, I've heard this before. He's Jalen Hurts a little bit. No, he's not. Jalen Hurts squat six hundred pounds. Jalen Hurts is an elite athlete. Jalen Hurts in the Super Bowl he lost, had four touchdowns, seventy percent completion rate and a and a passer completion rating of seventy percent and one hundred and two passer rating in the Super Bowl lost. Brock Kurty in the Super Bowl he lost was bad. Go look the numbers up. Passer rating in the eighties, one touchdown completion about sixty percent. They're not the same. Don't give me. Jalen Hurts was a better high school player, a better college player. He's a better NFL player. And I'm that's just Jalen Hurt. But I hear that comp once in a while. It's like, no, No, he's closer to Dak who's as good as the talent around him. That's what it is. Oh, the air thing I was thinking about. So I watched the Clippers Nuggets is a great series. These two teams are so even in the first game, it came down to Yokich hitting the big buckets late. Last night, it came down to Kawhi Leonard hitting the big buckets late, and I was sitting. I was sitting watching Kawhi Leonard. He is the strangest great player of all time, nonverbal, doesn't want to lead, no social media. Even his shoe was weird, his laugh is odd. But years ago I said this when he was actually playing more games. This year he played thirty seven games, and that's with restrictions on minutes. I mean I said this five or six years ago. I said, in terms of get a bucket, get a stop, He's very much Michael Jordan that everybody compares Lebron and Michael Jordan. Lebron is much more magic, Johnson, much more magic, elevates others. Kobe Bryant had Michael Jordan, so does Kawhi Leonard. Kawhi Leonard, hand size Jordan, mid range game Jordan, strength Jordan. Now, Kawhi doesn't have his durability or his personality. But if you took Kawhi and Kobe Bryant, that's Michael Michael and Kobe athletically with the same cat and both had a flare for the dramatic and a personality. Kawhi's not durable. Kobe was MJ was. Kobe had a personality. MJ had a personality. But the one thing Kawhi has that Kobe didn't is the hand size allows Kawhi to do things offensively, push off with one hand, use the other that even Kobe couldn't do. So I'm watching him last night and again he just doesn't play enough. He's a very all odd, all time player, but he is unstoppable when he's healthy. And I said this after they lost Game one. I'll still take the Clippers. They're a much better defensive team. They've got a better coach. Tylu will win one game. These games are in Denver. They could have gone, they could have won both. Jokic got real sloppy in this game. I think he had seven or eight turnovers. But James Harden's thoughts on Kawhi.
His career at the stopping start Nager, all the things he's gone through, do you think and he keeps coming back? Do you think he gets the appreciation from people for what he's known derrid and coming back from no.
Not even a little bit. It's always negative as always. You know what he's been through, and you know what he what he's not able to do just because of something that he can't control. Like, but we don't appreciate how great he is when he's out actually out there and putting on performances like this tonight.
Yeah, I disagree. I think everybody does appreciate him. I think everybody in the league knows how great he is. Everybody's just frustrated he's never available. I've never talked to a single scout in the NBA, a single person I respect that isn't in awe of his talent. Now, he wasn't as good as MJ early, right, McDonald's all American. He had to really grind on his game, and he does have like a degenerative knee problem. But that was his fourth playoff game with thirty plus points, shooting seventy percent or better. There is a lot of MJ. And I'll say it again, if you took Kobe and Kawhi, that's MJ. If you never saw MJ play the hand size the mid range game, I mean, Denver's got all sorts of athleticism and size, Michael Porter Gordon, they just kept throwing guys at him. He's like, nope, and he doesn't use pick and rolls. He doesn't need pick and roll Jordan. You're not gonna find a lot of Jordan pick and roll highlights. Michael didn't need it, and Kawhi doesn't need it. He's like, Gordon, come out and guard me. It doesn't matter. You can send anybody at him, it just doesn't matter. And is he is truly an all time great talent, but there's never been anybody like him where he's nonverbal and he's just not available. I disagree with James Harden that people don't respect him. I think people in the league fear him and are in awe of him. But it'd be like, let's say you love Lamar Jackson but he only played eight games a year. You would respect him, but you're like, it's too bad. Lamar Jackson's just not available. The reason we love Lamar among his brilliance is that dude takes hits. That dude is ready to play. So it's just it's not that he's not respected or criticized. Dude, when you're playing thirty seven games and you're on a restriction minute. What do you want us to say about him?
Yeah, that's why I have no read on this series at all. I don't know how much he's gonna play. Like Game one, he did not look great, right Game two bounces back phenomenal. He's one of these all time men. If that guy were healthy, imagine if he had Lebron's.
Health his entire career.
Kawhi Leonard, like, we're looking at it, one of the top twenty players in the history of this sport.
The other reason I love him and I think he's really good in the playoffs is that everybody talks about analytics. And I understand shooting three pointers over the course of a regular season volume, but playoff basketball. You have watched it in the last two In the first two games of this series, Nuggets Clippers, sometimes you just need a basket. You don't care about the math. We need to take a lead or tie the game. And that's where Kawhi is great. He can make the stop or he can get the bucket. And you know, we're never gonna think of Kawhi as mister analytics. But by the way, Westbrook has hit big threes in this series like several big threes. Let's see if that continues. I'm just saying, we gotta be fair on Westbrook. Westbrook in the first two games of the series has hit huge, huge shots. Last night, two corner threes. All right, Nick Wright is around the corner. On a Tuesday, it's the herd.
