Best of The Herd

Colin believes the Jets are starting to look desperate in their pursuit of Aaron Rodgers which is never a good look for NFL organizations. He proclaims Jimmy Garoppolo as the perfect fit for the Las Vegas Raiders. He also questions the Panthers draft approach following their big trade to acquire the number 1 overall pick. Plus, Super Bowl Champion Will Blackmon joins the show in studio to give his perspective on the reported list of demands Rodgers gave to the Jets as they continue to assess a trade for the 4-time MVP.

This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowhern on Fox Sports Radio. Oh, it is Tuesday, A glorious, fun filled Tuesday in cold and about to be very wet Los Angeles. It's the Herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Great to have you in today. One hour from now, Nick Wright stops by on the circus of NFL free agency and j Mack who For the many of you who know Jason, he is a Jets fan. There is a lot of tension and anxiety on our set today. You are pushed back on the idea that Aaron equals super Bowls this morning. How do you feel with what's transpired? I love how you have super bowls plural as if he's won multiple super Bowls in his career. This guy, this drama queens just dragging everything out. Are you over this diva or what. Well, let's start with that. It is incredibly fitting that if Aaron Rodgers goes to the Jets. This is your introduction to Aaron Rodgers R. E. L A X BRAH twenty four seven drama, always on his terms. Welcome Jets to the world of Aaron. You think you're getting two years, You're getting one maybe, and then next year he'll disappear in the offseason, play the game again. So at least it's appropriate. It's fitty. This is what Green Bay has been going through for half a decade or more. Now, the good news is the Jets are working to sign Alan Lazard, green Bay receiver. What does that tell you? It tells you that Aaron has given the Jets boxes to check. Hey, hire Nathaniel hack At my buddy. Maybe it'll help get Alan Lazard. You've got a bunch of young receivers. Get me somebody I know, maybe it'll help. Wouldn't mind David Baktiari and Randall Cobb though those haven't been made public, So it feels like Aaron has given them boxes to check and he's waiting for them to get deals done. That has always been the worst part of Aaron. You can do everything he asks and you still have no idea where you stand with him. I mean, Green baysment in this relationship for sixteen years. Do they like each other? I don't think so. Is he coming back? Nobody's sure. And listen, we all understand. I don't care if it's messy. Ronaldo, Brady, Jordan, Kobe, all time greats are demanding. But I always sort of feel with those great athletes, like if Brady wanted something and you delivered it. He had his demands maybe and mostly private, but you knew where you stood with him. You never do with Aaron. He's passive, aggressive, he hints it retirement. He doesn't have a big social circle. He's kind of private. So you can make all the changes and all the sacrifices and fill all the boxes, and you still don't know where you stand with him. Green Bay still doesn't know sixteen years where they stand with him. And it's not like the green Bay front office is a complicated bunch golf shirts, dockers, work hard, head down, not overly complicated. They love football, and they still don't know what they get from Aaron. And Aaron gives off the vibe that I'm not sure if I like you. That is why this is so fitting. Welcome to the world of Aaron Rodgers. And the other thing is, and this needs to be said, and it's completely true. When Lebron made demands, he got you to the finals. Peyton or Brady made demands, they got you to a conference championship or Super Bowls. Aaron makes all these demands. He couldn't beat Detroit at Lambo, he couldn't beat an outplay Garoppolo at Lambo, he couldn't beat Old Brady at Lambo. So what do I get on the other end. It's not like I'm getting conference championships. I'm not getting Super Bowls or NBA Final appearances. So the Jets now are desperate, shocker, They're desperate often. The Cleveland Browns were desperate. Shocker. They signed to Shaun Watson because they were desperate often. And what happens when you do that is the quarterback now controls you. Deshaun Watson's contract will eventually control everything Cleveland does. And Aaron Rodgers, not even a Jets employee yet, is making it very clear this will be on my terms. Get me the players, I want the coordinator, I want. It doesn't guarantee you'll get me, but it'll give you a better shot at getting me. And this morning, as everybody in jets Land is freaking out an anxiety, Aaron is saying, Hey, brah r e l a X, what an appropriate entrance to the New York Jets. The reality packer, fans, media teams, coaches, executives have been living for the last five to ten years. So I thought this story was interesting. I don't know really what to make of it. Albert Breer reports that Garoppolo is a better culture fit with the Raiders than Derek Carr was. Albert Brer says, for better or worse, they didn't see Derek Carr as a culture fit after having in the building for a year. They aren't guessing on whether Garoppolo will be better in that regard. They know because Josh McDaniels used to coach him. So you know, if you've listened to the show for years, I've always said, I like when the Star matches the City. Bird in la and Magic in Boston would never have been that cool. Magic was perfect as a Laker showtime Bird Top Feisty was perfect as a Celtic. It's why it's the greatest NBA rivalry in a decade of all time, and there's nothing really close. They were perfect personalities for their city. One feisty and combative, one having a good time, all smiles and fun. Garoppolo is perfect for Vegas. Maybe Derek Carr wasn't. I've said this about Brady in New England. Tom was committed, passionate, driven, willful, all business, very Boston. Josh Allen and Buffalo played for a Wyoming cowboy. Now he's got a Bison on the helmet. Small town guy, perfect for Buffalo. Joe Burrow and Cincinnati, Midwestern kid, great work, Ethos, unassuming, not into fame, perfect for since an Addie, even Mahomes in Kansas City. He's chill, backyard barbecue, fun guy, loyal, not into fame, wants to have a good time. Joe Montana and San Francisco, Big Ben and fit Pittsburgh. It just felt right for the record Green Bay and Aaron never has the California hipster and the conservative Midwestern executives. It's why there's a constant battle year after year. But Garoppolo in Vegas, single, good looking, fun, semi committed, good time, Jimmy Garoppolo's the kind of guy that if he called you and said, hey, guys, want to go for Vegas for the weekend, nobody turns it down. I like Derek Carr, but he didn't have a lett it Rip quality. That's the thing about Garoppolo. Kyle Shanahan asks him to make those tight window throws over the middle. He does. Sometimes they're picked, mostly they're not. But he never lacks confidence. Garoppolo never lacks confidence. Remember when Davante Adams, star receiver for the Raiders last year, complained that, hey, man, just because I'm double team, let it go, let it rip, let it go take risks. Derek Carr's got a Kirk Cousins vibe. What did Stefon Diggs complain about Derek Carr? Let it rip, throw it into coverage, take a big swing occasionally. It's why I always thought Derek Carr in Conservative Carolina was perfect. Frank Reich increases your efficiency played in the NFL, like Derek, a really nice guy, head down work card. I thought it was perfect. You know, when Brady went to Tampa, Jason wasn't working on the show at the time, but I said, what worried me because I lived in the New England region. I said, literally, Tampa is the furthest thing from New England. It's ebor Cities cocktails at four. You know, Belichick is do your job, Arians is go hang out with your fam. Neither's perfect, neither is right. But it was a completely different cultural fit. And after the first year Brady in that franchise nothing but headaches. Arians is now upstairs. Todd Bulls, who knows Byron, left, which wore him out. The fit wasn't right. Brady made it work for a year, but even the year they won the Super Bowl, they were seven and five and screaming at his chatter on TV in Chicago. It was never ideal. Mark Jackson in the Bay Area, Steve Kerr in the Bay Area. One really fits again, Magic and Bird. I like Derek Carr a lot. I thought New Orleans was a weird fit. It's like, it's a little like Vegas, right. But what Josh McDaniels, according to the Albert Brier story, is saying, we know what Jimmy does. He'll lubricate the room. Socially, he's a guy's guy. He'll let it rip. He's loose he's fun. You know what you get with Jimmy Garoppolo. It's not a knock on Kirk Cousins and Derek Carr. I've been a Derek Carr fan from day one, but Garoppolo is a totally different vibe in the room, and I think it works. I like the move, I really do. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdayson noon Eastern Ampacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app. So this is odd. So the draft is in late April. Free agency now, that's why it's confusing for the Jets and difficult. They want Aaron to sign. We know what we have, we know what we don't. We can make free agent moves. Teams want some clarity on what they have what they don't have, and they want it now. So the Jets on pins and needles. Welcome to the new Aaron Rodgers version that Green Bay has been dealing with for a long time. Carolina called Chicago gave him three great picks and a star receiver to get the number one pick. So you think they got a quarterback they have in mind. Apparently not. The story today is they're down to two quarterbacks cjs Sroud and Anthony Richardson. Okay, that's weird. They're two different quarterbacks. So CJ. Stroud may be limited, but he's polished and refined and accurate and efficient. He is a multiple year starter. Anthony Richardson is the opposite. He is clay you hope you can mold. He's raw, inefficient, inaccurate, not a prototype, A million question marks. Frankly, Carolina, I don't think you really know what you want. Those are that That would be like my wife coming up to me and saying, listen, I've narrowed it down to two cars. They want a Ferrari and a jeep wrangler, or me going to her and saying, listen, two vacations. Let's either scale Mount Everest or go to a beach in Maui? Am I seeking a conquest or relaxation? If I went to my financial advisor, tax free Muni bonds or dump it all into bitcoin? Pick a lane? What do you want to do? CJ. Stroud is ready to play very soon in the NFL. Multiple year, efficient, accurate starter, had a very good offensive coach, played with NFL receivers. An elite NFL offensive lineman gets the pro game, ready to play. How great he's going to be, I don't know, but he's ready to take NFL snaps, multiple year starter in the Big ten, full stadiums, big games, a lot of pressure. Anthony Richardson, You have no idea. It's just clay. You hope to mold into something. But it's raw, it's inefficient, it's inaccurate. He hasn't played much, hasn't played with nearly the wide receiving talent or offensive scheme as c. J. Stroud. So it feels like Carolina likes the number one spot but doesn't really know what the number one player is. And also feels like Frank Reich, who I like a lot as a coach, is dealing with an owner, and the owner has a vision of what he thinks the franchise should be as well. So this, to me is really strange to give up that much. First round, two seconds a star receiver and down to two quarterbacks who are completely different. One is known as a reluctant runner, very accurate passer, the other one known as an inaccurate passer who would prefer running and is great at it. Weird. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd Weekday said noun eastre not a Empacific. We know it's there's certain things in the NFL we know to be true, but we hate to admit it. Half the teams that made the playoffs will not make the playoffs next year. Sorry New York Giants. Nothing's guaranteed. So half the playoff teams out. Here's another one. A third of your first round picks that you think your stars will be whiffs. Here's another one. Only about thirty three percent of NFL free agency acquisitions make any impact. Many don't work, many don't fit. So as I'm watching all these moves, a couple absolutely work, and they're both for the Denver Broncos. Sean Payton walked in and here's what I know. The Denver Broncos offensive line is better this morning than it was a week ago. Right tackle, and they just bought in Ben Powers, one of the best pass blocking guards in the league from Baltimore. So when Nathaniel Hackett had this team, there was no clarity, there was no identity. We just even the first game, remember the timeout situation, the clock management, like should Russell call the time out? Should Hackett call the time out? The whole season. Why isn't Russell Wilson rolling out more? What is the offense? How come they don't throw to Jerry Judy? There was no clarity with anything they do in all my years of doing this. One of the reasons Fox succeeds is they have real clarity. They do conservative politics, they do big World Cup, NFL World Series, big events, do them well. They have a brand. There's clarity on what they expect and what they do. And the rival for this company, ESPN's been all over the map for years and you've seen a loss and an erosion of ratings. What are you? What do you do well? What does Sean Payton do? Rebuild the offensive line? Why does it matter? When Sean Payton was in New Orleans for sixteen years? What is the statistic? The Saints led the entire league in do you know what it is? Not points? It's not wins? Third down, Andy Reid third down, Kyle Shanahan third down, Mike McDaniel, Miami third down, Sean Payton third down. Teams that are good on third down, regardless of how you turn third into first, regardless of how you do it. Buffalo at the end of last year, didn't we complain they have no run game. Josh Allen making it up as he goes. They lost an identity. What were they offensively beyond Josh Allen's really talented, that's not an identity that's grasping at Straws Chargers second half offense all last year. What were they very good early? What are they in the second half beyond Justin Herbert's really talented, But with Drew Brees smaller than the ideal size, weaker arm at the end of his career, they were the best team in the league on third down. Sean Payton builds offensive lines. Everybody succeeds that offensive line will give him an allotment of time to experiment. They can run, they can pass, So this is everything Sean Payton's about. Create an identity they never had it with Hackett. Of all these free age it moves, I've seen two of them. Denver zone line acquisitions absolutely will change the team. They like athletic guards who can pull. It's his offense. They'll be great on third down. By the way, Russell Wilson I always thought was a pretty good third down quarterback until he got to Denver last year and knowing what you are knowing and providing that clarity to everybody in the locker room. Kansas City is a great example. So they go to the Super Bowl with three cast off wide receivers and a rookie sky More. Go to the second half against Philadelphia. They were unbelievable on third, fourth, red zone downs because they know what they are. It may look like razzle dazzle experimentation to you, it's not. When they get in the red zone. Kansas City is the most complex, risk interested, clever offense in the league. Ring around the Rosie, they're move hike in the ball to different players. That's not complicated to them because Kansas City knows what they are. You ever see a team that's kind of conservative and they try to run trick plays and it's just a tire fire. Kansas City does like seven a game, often in the red zone, in crisis, third down, fourth down, it's what they do. So this is the classic Sean Payton rebuild. The old line, be great on third down, move the chains, defense off the field. You look at the great coaches in football. The play in football, to me that's always defined more than just the play is third down. I said this ten years ago. I always look at the end of the year, as you get to week twelve, thirteen, fourteen, who are the good third down teams? The good running teams don't all make the playoffs. The good passing teams don't all make the playoffs. The good defensive teams don't all make the playoffs. Generally, over the last ten fifteen years, if a team's highly functional on third down, it doesn't mean they have the best personnel, but it means they have an alignment. Everybody knows what they are. By the way, Philadelphia on fourth down, the rugby push. Everybody hated it except Philadelphia, but it became part of who they were. Great old line, smaller quarterback, guys behind him push for a first down so effective. Were like, it's illegal, this can't be legal. That is when you're well coached. Everybody in the league. In New England twenty years fourth and one, Brady Sneak. You knew what was coming. You couldn't stop it. So Sean Payton and New Orleans. The number one thing he did first down efficiency on third getting a first down. By the way, what was Denver last in the league at last year? Third down? Peyton sixteen years first on third down. That's a real thing. These moves for Denver are a real thing. Hey, I'm Doug gottlie The podcast is called All Ball. We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's more about the stories about what made these people love their sport and all the interesting interact actions along the way. Listen to All Ball with Doug Gotlieb on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, orherever you get your podcast. So the Warriors eight straight home wins now embark on a road schedule five of the next six games, and I think it's I think it's five straight or five or six. They've been a terrible road team, thirty three road game, seven wins, atrocious. A lot of it, we assume is because the team is a little clickie this year, the Draymond Green Jordan Pool incident. There's a divide between young players who want more time and older players who are more established. That is my guess, my hunch. There's no reason in the world this is one of the worst teams in the NBA on the road. It's still at Dynasty. They won last year. They were good on the road last year, even in the finals at Boston. They're atrocious this year. Last night, Clay Thompson was unbelievable, thirty three of US thirty eight in the first half. Jordan Pool was good. You know he's got these every other night. He's tortunate. Steph Curry was great. They have ridiculous guard depth and ridiculous guard scoring. But I was told last night that Andrew Wiggins probably will not return this year. It's not one hundred percent, but there they believe inside the organization there's a likelihood, maybe seventy thirty he won't return, and he is a hugely critical piece. They can't win a championship without him. He's the best on ball wing defender. He allows Draymond Green to do what he does well, which is rome intercept, clog up lanes, defend multiple pieces. You can put an Andrew Wiggins on a Luca or a Lebron or a Paul George or a Kawhi or a Jason Tatum and at least make their night difficult. Without Andrew Wiggins, you ask more of Draymond Green, and you ask more of your guards. And as good as Steph clan Pool are, they have bad nights. So Rick Buker talked about Andrew Wiggins. The feeling is negative, not positive on Andrew Wiggins return. They certainly can't win without him. I'm not even convinced that they can win with him. I just don't believe that they have enough. But certainly he and Gary Payton, if they were available, could cure a lot of their ills. And I don't know the details, but it is a personal issue and they are not convinced by any stretch that he's going to make it back. So if you look at this dynasty, look at the players they've brought in and the ones that work. Kde worked why not because of his scoring. He was a willing defender, he always has been. Andrew Wiggins worked not because of his scoring. He's a willing and excellent defender. Andre Igwadala years ago worked a willing defender who didn't D'Angelo Russell, nice shot, won't defend, not depend will on that end. So we pay so much attention to Steph and Clay and the Splash brothers and the scoring, and they are loaded Defencenzo now as a leader. Peyton's coming back. They they're gonna make some moves in the off season. But if you look at who didn't work, James Wiseman probably didn't think the pace of play he could defend. So without Andrew Wiggins, this is not a championship team. He is that jinga piece, Tatum Kawai, Paul Luca Lebron even at k deep makes their scoring more difficult, their efficiency drop. And if he's not coming back, it's personal reasons, it's family stuff. There's no reason for me to break the story. I don't have the sources anyway to do it. But to me, you're gonna see when you go on the road. They always say this in football, defense travels. Shooting always doesn't. Offense doesn't travel. Defense is effort. Effort always travels. It's why this dynasty has worked. They go on the road, they shut you down. They shut Tatum down, They shut the Celtics down late in key situations. Without Wiggins, not the same team. Okay, So J Mack said he had an Aaron Rodgers take during the break and when I needed it, he said, asked for it. So I don't know if I need it. Nick right top the next hour. But what is your Aaron Rodgers take? You don't know if you need it. I don't know when this hit me, but I got a text this morning on the way into work and started letting it marinate a little bit. So do you remember when Tom Brady left New England? Yes? Okay, So on a Tuesday he announced I'm leaving the Patriots Sporting World three days, four days. By Friday, he's a Tampa Bay buccaneer. Colin, what did he bring to Tampa? As soon as Leonard Fournette was released, Hey, Leonard, come on down. As soon as Antonio Brown realized I'm gonna come back to the NFL, Tom Brady, who cultivated relationships with stars throughout the league, Antonio Brown, Hey, come here, Gronk, you're retired, Hey, why don't you come back? Nobody says no to Tom Brady. All these guys like him. He's very well liked relationships. Matter what happened in the Super Bowl, Gronk scored, Fournette was a beast Antonio Brown awesome. Good point. So Aaron Rodgers now is dragging his feet. All reports are he's trying to get guys to come with him to the Jets. Who's he leaning on? Randall Cobb, that's his guy. That's the relationship he has, Randall Cobb. Tom Brady brings stars to Tampa. Aaron Rodgers is trying to get Randall Cobb to New York. And now maybe he's like, oh, maybe we can get Alan Lazard. Those are the relationships Aaron Rodgers had relationships matter and the other guys talking about Mercedes Lewis Apparently Mercedes Lewis and Randall Cobb, those are who he's trying to bring to the Jets. According to the reports, I can't stress it enough. Like he's just a different dude. He never won over the locker room. He never really liked guys. Guys didn't get along with him. So when it comes his his big moment in the Sun Colin his free agency, well not free agency, but he's leaving the Packers. Who wants me the Jets? That's the market for him right now? What other guys are going to come with him? Randall Cobb, Mercedes Lewis, maybe Alan's art Well it's yeah, I mean Aaron is different. Brady would have these Kentucky Derby parties. Yeah, Brady's just a different guy. Big family guy, you know, married family guy, close to his parents. That he's a good hang He's a cool dude, like I don't want to say Lane, but he's a cool guy. People like Brady. They gravitate toward him. He got a winning smile. Way Peyton Manning was the same. In Indianapolis and Denver, guys like hanging out with Peyton. Peyton's fun, Peyton's picking up the bill. Peyton's a good time. Absolutely you hear anyone else in the league of Davante Adams is he clamoring to get to New York to play for the Jets. I know they're boys. It's kind of locked into a contract, but well, it does matter. It's the knock on Russell Wilson. Who does he hang with? It's a good point. I mean, all the Seahawk guys all took shots. The Denver thing didn't work. It matters, like the stuff matters. So who are your guys? Who do you roll with? Brady Peyton Manning a lot of them, by the way, it was a knock on Big Ben in Pittsburgh offseason, didn't hang out with anybody, hung out with his family. Who did he roll with? He never rolled with the guys in Pittsburgh, like the receivers, the backs. I mean, it was like Brady always had Edelman, his backs, his tight end, his offensive linemen. Like Brady had his guys. That's why, by the way, that's Garoppolo. Garoppolo's at Warrior games with Niners, Giants games like Garoppolo's known as a good hang. He's got his boys, He rolls with his guys. He picks up the check for the private jet. They go to the big events, the boxing matches. That's part of it. Patrick Mahomes, last year they lose Tyreek Hill. How many? How many receivers want to go play with Patrick Mahomes. Now we know he's great, but he seems like a cool dude. You know, you gotta have that be able to cultivate relationships. You like to say, be a good hang. Colin. When FS one recruited jet back, how many people did you call to say we gotta get you here. I still remember the phone call, ladies and gentlemen. When Calherd calls me up, he says, well, I can't say what you said, but you were very excited, yes about building a group of I'm all people who you get along. I'm also married, I've got kids. So that's that's my real that's my life experience. I'm part of stuff Aaron. Again, I've said this about Kad he tends to be a wanderer. Katie's not married, no kid. It's okay, but Katie doesn't Who does he roll with? Crazy Kuki Kyrie? Who does Aaron roll with? So it's a reality. If this is something I've talked about, everybody listening has this is that you know, you meet people and you have your high school If I don't have a lot of high school friends, I have one I still communicate with. But you know, I was a small town, but I've got two in college I still connect with. And every city i've gone too, I've got a series of people I still connect with that I think it's very normal. I think most I'm speaking for men, most guys have that. Aaron's a little different. So he doesn't get along with the front office. I think he and his brother have reconciled. Not sure if it's the parents. Doesn't have a ton of teammates not bok tr likes him, Randall Cobb likes him. So let's be fair. He does have a couple of guys, Mercedes Lewis, He's got some guys. How much Simon Greenback over a decade and you just named two dudes. Maybe I'm trying to be fair with Aaron Rodgers because I think he views guys like me as unfair. I've said this before, first ballot Hall of Famer, little, finnicky and high maintenance. For my taste, I'd rip the band aid off if I was green Bay, but I'd still put him into the Hall of Fame. I think he's one of the twelve best most talented quarterbacks I've ever seen. I always liked him more than five despite Farv's recent incidents. I always like I thought Aaron was more of a thinking person's quarterback, less of a gun slinger, higher efficiency. I thought he was a modern quarterback, smart, thoughtful, accurate, no gun slinging. Like sometimes the knock was he was too safe instead of just letting it rip. So I do. There's a lot I like about Aaron. And I also know the word normal is kind of a dangerous word. What is normal? I've always compared Aaron to Kevin Durant. They're a little thin skinned. Some of that is because they probably spend a lot of time thinking about themselves because they're not married. Animals kits all that I don't have time to be on the phone. I see people complaining about Twitter. I'm on it an hour a day reading. I don't have time to be on it. People sitting complaining about Elon Musk. Who knows that much about Twitter? It's just a goofy app. But again, so I try to be fair with Aaron. He is too high maintenance and noncommittal for my personality. But he does make the Jets absolutely, unequivocally, inarguably better if he signs, that is indisputable. One more Herd. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day, seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you like. Bording to Diana Russini, very well connected Aaron Rodgers. Listen to this has This is what we said two hours ago to start the show. We said when the Alan Lazard story came out, it sounds like Aaron has given the Jets a list of people to acquire. Boom we hit it. Aaron Rodgers has provided the Jets with a wish list of free agents. He has asked them to target and acquire. Listen to this list. Randall Cobb, he shot, Alan Lazard's a number four receiver. Mercedes Lewis I love, but he's a blocking tight end. And Odell Beckham junior who wants twenty million a year. So you have to now dismantle some of your defense to get these pieces in. What does it mean for Elijah Moore and the rookie out of Ohio State. I mean, so Aaron Rodgers spent a career complaining about what Green Bay didn't get him, and now he's asking the Jets to go get the guys that green Bay got him. I mean, this is this is a laughable Odell Beckham's talented, he wants twenty million. I'm not paying that. I'd love. Mercedes Lewis is a blocking tight end. Randall Cobb's a nice guy, but he's never healthy. And it's over Alan Lazard. He's a three four that's what Alan Lazard is in the NFC North. Maybe Allan Lazard is something in the AFC. He's irrelevant, irrelevant. If I'm the Jets take a walk, no way, I'm allowing this. Can you imagine being pushed around like this talk about an uneven relationship. I gotta go out. It's not like he's saying, sign DeAndre Hopkins. Okay, I'll go get him. You want me to sign DeAndre Hopkins, I'll go get him. Or make a trade for Stefan Biggs. I'm in Not one of these guys is in their prime. I guess Alan Lazard is, but they much of a prime. So Cobb's passed it, Mercedes passed it, Beckham's passed it. And again I'm not anti Allen Lazard, but what you're saying is you have to The packers are laughing their ars off at the Jets. The Green Bay Packers see this story and they are howling with laughter. By all means, please take Cobb Lazard off our hands. Please didn't want random cob anyway. Oh my god, does Aaron have any self awareness? Does he really think at all? This is such a bad look for Aaron Rodgers. This is an awful look. Diana Rassidia doesn't make stuff up. She's about the last three or four she's dropped. She's hit on all of them. It feels like a hostage crisis. No, I mean, Rogers essentially is trying to call the shots an hour ago. You know, now, you say what's different with Brady? Brady got your Super Bowls, and Brady wanted Antonio Brown. Electric Gronk still remain the best blocking tight end, like Mercedes, Mercedes Lewis. I would bring in Mercedes Lewis a blocking tight end for Breece Hall in the running. I bring in Mercedes. You get it. You're not gonna charge a million bucks a billion bucks. But when Brady went out and got Leonard Furnette still had something in the tank. He's a top five thick and they didn't have a running back. Brady basically filled needs. Gronk instantly started right draft him Antonio Brown right to the slot. They didn't have a slot receive. Remember they the small a couple of small guys. They were like Notty Miller. So the Jets this week cut Braxton Barrios, who was solid, good buddy of Zach Well. And by the way, and Braxton Barrios is a nice slots better than Randall Cop. Let's be real, Oh it's not even at this point, not close wants Randall Cop to come into the slot. Now you're talking on Alan LA's art. He ain't playing over Garrett Wilson. I don't even know if he's better than Corey Davis. And you got Elijah More who they drafted still on the roster. I know he's in the doghouse for a moment. He's better than Randall copp where's Odell Beckham play the way? Aaron's gonna come out because this land so poorly. He's gonna come out and deny all this. Aaron's gonna call. He's gonna come out and deny all of this. Diana Russini's not making this up. She's getting it from somewhere. Mike, who do you think gave Diana? I think the Jets are at their wits end. Yeah, so I think the Jets are like, this is so ridiculous. Let's put that out there so our fan base sees what we're up against. So this is the Jets leaking it to let everybody know. And I would do the same thing because the Jets are getting crushed by their fans. So the Jets are like, time out, this is what we're dealing with. Diana, leak it boom, It makes Aaron, It makes the Jets look I feel sorry for the Jets. I think Aaron's out of his gore. I think that's spot on. Why would you leak that now just so when you get out of the Aaron Rodgers business, Jets fans understand why a lot of people are seeing this is like no, no, no, I don't want Aaron Rodgers. Maybe the Jets leaked it because they're about to back out. But all I know is when this lands, my interpretation is, I don't blame the Jets now for backing out. If having lived in the Northeast, wfa N is a big, powerful radio station, tomorrow, the reaction will be, you can't blame the Jets for not getting Aaron. I mean, this stuff is nonsense, that is non set, makes him look ridiculous. And again, Aaron's gonna deny it. But when I lived in the Northeast, they always put stuff out to see how the fans would react. The Jets and the Mets that all the time. The Giants basically kept up private, but everybody else leaked stuff for the media to go crazy on. This makes Aaron look bad and it makes the Jets look like they're trapped. I mean, if you're a Jets fan, you are. If I'm a Jets fan, and I see this. I'm like, let's take and go get a good quarterback. Okay, so let's spin it forward. Jets say sorry, Aaron Rodgers, goodbye. We're not in the Aaron Rodgers business. What's the move? Where do you go from here? Colin? You got Lamar Jackson's out there, Caleb Williams, Mac Jones, Matt Jones, you all right? The other side of the coin, Aaron Rodgers, I'm going back to Green Bay? How does that land in the green Bay locker room and the front office and Jordan Love. I don't know who has a bigger headache, the Packers taking Rodgers back or the Jets having no quarterback? Who ask yourself this, who has cap space right now in the NFL? Who can take these contracts and get Aaron? Because that's interesting? Well, the Bears had catface. They're doing They're not doing it. I haven't looked at what Tennessee has done this week. But remember you were the one who said he's got a house in Tennessee. I'm just saying they didn't sign Tannehill yet. If if Memories serves so, you're gonna have to overpay for Randall Cobb Odell Beckham, Alan La Mercedes Lewis is a not a big chip and I got to inherit Aaron's contract And all the Jets have been known for the last ten days is reworking contracts to get cap space. Now you're throwing me these. I think the Jets have just come to the point at the at wits end. They're like, Aaron, we'll make a move for Alan Lazard, We'll bring in Mercedes to block. We can't bring in Odell Beckham and Randall Cobb. So you've been at the negotiating table, right, No, I never have. I have an agent. I don't want to be nearly a negotiating table. I don't want to be near it. I don't want to. We bought a house and you know there's some negotiations. This is years ago, and you get to the table and you're like, listen, we don't want to fall in love with this house, so we can't walk away. You got to fall in like it was easier to walk away when you're not in love with it. Are the Jets in love with Aaron Rodgers? No? Why would they be. They have no relationship. They got they have no relationship. I think Green Bay is sitting back. They're nervous now they got it. Brian Gudencoons is texting all his buddies in the NFL. I guarantee you NFL gms are texting Brian gudencunst at this moment going good, God, get him out of the building. Good luck with Jordan's love. And this stuff is nonsense, ridiculous. Jets move on. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays and noon Easter not Ampacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app. Okay, I came up with a new theory. Will Blackman twelve years in the NFL Super Bowl chat with the Giants, So Diana Russini for those just joining us, comes out twenty five thirty minutes ago with this somebody leaks this tour who Aaron has provided the Jets with a wish list of free agents he would like them to target and acquire. It includes Randall Cobb, Alan Lazard, a big receiver, Mercedes Lewis, and Odell Beckham. Aaron leaked it. Here's my theory, that's your theory. Here's why Aaron leaked it because the deal as Trey Wingo speculated is very close to done. Aaron's buddies, really good buddies, are Randall Cobb, Mercedes Lewis, and he's got a friendship with Odell Beckham. They both live here in La Aaron's got a place in Malibu bel Air for I think O'Dell or Beverly Hills. So Aaron leaks it so when the deal gets done, Aaron doesn't lose friends. Eric can say Aaron Rodgers can say, dude, he can go to Randall Cobb, Mercedes and Odell Beckham and say I tried to get you in. It was reported. Now Lazard is somebody. I do believe the Jets. He's a bigger receiver. He could play for a lot of teams. Not a one or a two, but he's a big receiver. So Aaron, who, by the way, you were in a charity event with this weekend. Aaron leaks it, so when he signs with the Jets, he at least has cover to his guys, to his boys. Hey, I tried to bring in the Jets, Wooden Budge, I think that's nonsense. I thought, I think that's the worst there. I heard a long time time. Who leaked it. I don't know who leaked it. I don't know Jet is not making it. What was that like a minute? Was that a minute right there that you did for the theory That theory is nonsense. Who do you think? I don't know, but I don't think what do you make of that demand? I think that demand is silly to him. Oh maybe maybe he did have a conversation, but I don't believe that Aaron straight up provided a list of a list of demands or a list of players that I need to have. But we need to try to get um so why I can come to the Jets or to make them feel good, like, hey, I try to get you guys like no, you know it's as you just mentioned. I was with Aaron this weekend. We played a charity football game where I ended up pulling both hamstrings much you have to at leasta, I don't anymore so, but he but his energy there is like he was he was so stress free and just and chilling, not worried about the situation. I didn't ask him any questions because I'm sure he was getting Brandon Marsha was there bombarding him with questions, because that's you know, Brandon and I don't know. I just he just looked real chill and relaxed, and so I'm thinking, like all this stuff, especially we talked yesterday on the show um with a Show how he's holding team's hostage and all this stuff, and I'm just like, he's in a He's in a situation very few athletes ever get to be in where he can he controls his own destiny wherever he wants to go, you know, and if he wants. But but these are all really difficult decisions in terms of sure, yeah, if he staying green, but he gets fit to me in dollars, you know, or sixty whatever it is. But does he does he want to stay there? That's that's for him. He's at the point of his career where he's trying to figure out does he want to go to a new challenge where it's it's unknown with the Jets, or does he shut it down and retire, which is probably the most difficult decision, you know, for most athletes. So I'm kind of like, man like, I'm I'm happy that he's in a position where he can do whatever he needs to do. Like, I'm not even tripping about it. Usually though I've left a couple of times when you leave a relationship, business or personal, you go somewhere where they provide you with something that's missing for sure. So what is greed? He's not seeking money, He's not seeking fame. He's got plenty of that. He's not faming, seeking respect. Green Bay respects him. They're tired of him, but they respect him. What do they provide They don't give him privacy, an easier division, an easier conference, more money, fame. One are the Jets providing him that? Green Bay isn't just a new challenge. It's okay, that's that's pretty much what it challenge. That's that's pretty much what it is. I look at that when you know, why would Brady leave and go to Tampa Because he wanted more control of the offense and he got it. Yeah, and he had and he had a new challenge for him, the same thing Peyton when he went to Denver. He brought everything over to Denver. It was a new challenge, it was something different because the previous organization, well Indy wanted to move on anyway from him. So that's how I see it. He's in the point where he could not play another down and he's a first bout Hall of Fame or no question. So on this point, he's just adding to whatever he has. So I just see him if he goes there is for a new challenge. But I can he has three difficult decisions to figure out, or three options that are would you do if you had two hundred million in the bank, not married, no kids, to different life than year? I probably I would probably go to New York. Wow, I probably would. It's a circus weird ownership coach on the hot seat, perfect that tatan a hurricane. Let's do it just because, just because if if I'm measuring myself up and I'm like, look like I want to, you know, if you're Montana fan, he went and played for Kansas City, you know, and like I mentioned the ODSWO quarterbacks, Kayton got a ring and Brady got a ring and Stafford got a ring. Yeah. Let me let me especially especially in recent years, right, let me let me go see. Wow, what um? You had an agent? I guess your entire career. Yes, I have said, with all due respect to Lamar's family, I think having an agent protects you, meaning no other teams are going to bad mouth you, even if they don't like you because agents have lots of clients, and those teams may want the clients if your mom's representing you. The minute you hear about Lamar and money, teams went public, hard passed, not interested. It was like that was almost personal. Do you think it's time that Lamar goes? I gotta, I gotta get an agent. I mean he's obviously he's not very trusting, right, A lot of people aren't trusting. I get that. I mean a lot of people in this country did not trust the vaccine. They didn't trust our government. I understand a lot of people are like, I don't. I'm not giving somebody ten percent or eight percent of my money. But where did impass here? Where do you go with that? Yeah? I mean I think in my case now, especially running you know, running a business, like I had to go and get you know, a business attorney or you know, a business advisor or all these people who understand the legalities of stuff so that I am protecting some certain way. So him getting an agent, you know what, help. He can just negotiate the fee. He doesn't have to give the full three or whatever it is. He can hey point five or just handle this free agency. He can set the terms of in terms of what he wants. So yeah, I can see in that situation because perhaps something probably could have gotten done. Now they can't talk him till tomorrow, I believe Wednesday. So but again, he's he's in a unique situation because because who he is who he is, he's, you know, one of the top quarterbacks in the league. I mentioned his MPPs and he is a he's a once in a decade type of quarterbacks, no question about. All right, good news for a New York football team. Breaking news. The Raiders are trading tight end Darren Waller stud to the Giants of New York third round pick per Schefter. So for the record, that's huge. Oh no, He'll be a sixty five to seventy five catch guy, half a dozen touchdowns. He's a great player outside of Travis Kelsey. Most talented tight end football he is. I saw him at the Super Bowl. He got defensive end. He is jacked. That is a great get for the Giants. A third round pick, that's a massive There's not a guy in the third round is talented as Darren Waller. I can say that. Well, no, yeah, no, there's no way, no it's not that's such a good get for them. Good for Daniel Jones, got some money, you got a tight end. Let's go not get him. You're a former Giant. I am a former Giant. I love the Giants, love him. Yes, they didn't end badly, did not. If anything, they saved my career. Okay, all right, so that feels like a big deal Darren Waller Giants, Yes, offensive piece. Just just again, he's and he's going to I think they're training their training staff got an a plus in terms of keeping guys healthy. Yeah, so yeah, good, Um, I like that. Yeah, so the Bears, now, don't the Raiders have moreau? He is the backup tight ends, pretty capable guy, and they had to cut some salary here because they're you know, they brought in they're pretty stacked. Offensively, how do you think? You know, we all kind of roll our eyes at Jimmy GQ. But um, what do you make of him in the Raiders? Does it matter in that division? Or is it just all window dressing? It won't matter. How do you view Jimmy Garoppolo? Yeah I don't see so I viewed Jimmy like I think he finally gets to I think, take a deep breath and breathe again. You know, because in San Fran every year it was in question, you know, either his health or getting another quarterback, super Bowl run or yeah, or or not finishing the deal, you know. And so he's now in a situation where obviously the Raiders can still go get a quarterback. You know, there's nothing is free agency is still going on. The draft hasn't happened yet. Um, but he's in a situation where it's it's familiar, and you know, he's he got whatever the money he wanted, yeah, decent money. Yeah, and he has you know, legit weapons. Well he just lost one, but he has you know, Davante has a running back that they stood in pay it and Josh Jacob, So I like it for him. I also picked up Jacoby Myers unfro Josh Jacobs. Jacoby Myers and Davante Adams and a good and a more than solid old line. Right, that's still a really good set of players, right in an offense where he's you know, probably gonna push it more. And because I felt like he was, he had a lot around him in terms of coaching and in defense, and you know, sophisticated run game where he did what he had to do to get the forty nine ers where he needs to go. I think now he's in a situation where you know he'll be able to push the ball ball down the field and it won't be it's not that type of offense that Shanahan's running. Wow. So today, Aaron Rodgers, what's your guests today right now? What is your guess? First of all, that nothing happens today, Nothing happens today, and he's gonna stress everyone else out. Nothing happens. To know, he's he's still gonna wait for these teams to figure it out for sure. Do you think if he goes to the Jets that Green Bay within a year deeply regrets it. No, do you think Jordan Love can play? That's what made that. They went and got him in the first round. They're ready for him. They're ready. They've seen him for three years in camp. That's Gooncou's is guy. That's who he went when you when the GM is hired, he gets his quarterback. That's what the ego do, and he got it. He got his quarterback, and everyone other guys on the team were like, hey, we see him every day. He's ready to go, he can start. You would know fundamentally if he couldn't play a leg for sure. You would also know if he's great. If he was great, Aaron would already be gone. You wouldn't have signed the extension if you thought he was like great. I think he was a great. I don't know if Aaron would already be gone because Aaron was still great. I think the drama if you thought he was Mahomes Burrow Josh Allen Lamar in terms of what talent Jordan Love, you would have moved Aaron last year. You wouldn't have signed him to that extension. You get the cheap kid who's Mahomes So we know he's not that. We know he's not Trevor Lawrence. True, but he also know. You don't just move on from Aaron easily. Well, if he's great, you do, yeah, I mean you moved off Peyton Mann because of Andrew Luck. They were like see next surgery. Well he was all, he was still viable. If you knew you had a Burrow, you'd have moved off Aaron a year ago. So we let's just say he ain't top six. But you also know he's not Zach Wilson or you wouldn't make them move. So the question is is he a B minus or an A minus if he's in the middle cousins dak Well. For a team to like want to reset their franchise for a thirty eight thirty nine year old quarterback, then he has something like I was literally a year ago to I wannestly not today, but February last year. He I was at a party. He just he walked in. He just won MVP, like he just won it. Yeah, I know. So it's like, but you wouldn't want to if if you knew you could pay Jordan Love a nickel or fifty large Daron, and you thought this kid was Burrow, you'd move on. You'd be like and by the way, well you know what, you got a good point because I did see that happen. Five just took us to the Entcity Championship game and they moved on. They were like, dude, Aaron's great and by like Jordan Love, he was all they had practice footage. But and then but yeah, what Aaron though, like, I haven't seen Jordan Love. You to your point, Aaron, Yes, was I know? Guys that were at those practices. We meant we went to a lot of games where their starter was not better than our number two. You were there, Yeah, So I'm saying if he was that they'd have moved off Aaron. They moved off far of who was wildly popular. So he's not a top six guy and he's not terrible, or they wouldn't make the move now, so he's somewhere between. He's in the middle. He's in that B minus A minus space. My guest, he's probably firmly planted in the B and and and with this roster A minus. That's a that's a B B minus A minus. Is Russell Wilson? Do you think he's Russell Wilson? I think he's better than russ Oh boy, oh boy? Hold on, what you think Jordan loves better than Russell? Well? How goes? Okay, make a prediction? How good is Jordan loved this second? Give me a quarterback? A comp? A comp ray now, comp? Drum roll? Pretty please give me a comp. I'm going through Authorty, Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Tannehill, that's your comp. I'm saying, is he Ryan Tannehill. That's so hard? Yeah, that's what I'm I can't give you a cop, can't give you a camp. I'm saying, if you knew you got a cop, Ty Lance. Oh he's better than Tray Lance because Trey Lance. Kenny Pikett, I think that's a good one. That's a good one. Kenny Pickett not great, can win games, but you can see it, you can see like you can see something. I think Kenny pick it's a good comp. If you think he's as good as Kenny Pickett, do you move on? Yeah? Because Pittsburgh and Green Bay are kind of the same very few needs, well run, draft developed well, consistently solid to excellent. That's the same franchise NFCAFC, Pittsburgh, Green Bay. If you think he's Kenny Pickett, you move on. That's a good comp. There it is? Or you go where do you? Where do it go? You? You any time to think a little bit, right, you see something? You don't think he's mahomes, but he can win you games if you give him good peeples and I think Green Bay in Pittsburgh, I think I think they both have really nice higher third rosters. Hey, can I ask Will when he was a young guy with in Green Bay, what was Aaron Rodgers, like in the locker room to you as a young guy, friendly, super friendly. He's always that's funny, he's always been friendly. Um, I never like you said, you said, we get each other though, right, he's like Calaghama BC guy. So it's like, I get they're both academic guys. Well they're both smart schools. You're a smart guy. You're a wine Somalia. You're a smart guy. I can't figure out whortle. You've memorized wines. And he was a smart guy. He was kind of a prank so like he this is long. You can look it up on on you can google it of him photo bombing every captain's picture. So we McArthur would pick captains. We stand there in front of every there's like fifty slides of him behind us doing something stupid like that was that was him. A wacky fundster academic. He's funny. He's funny. Yeah, I bet he is. He's driving people crazy, but that's their problem. Kind of it is if your wife said, will you're driving me crazy? Would you say, well, that's your problem. That's not what you'd say. That's different, that's direct. That's my wife. Okay, Lets We don't even know Aaron. It's all relationship. My aunt would say, I'd be like man that personally bugs me, Like why they bug you, what they do to you? They just they just the way they are, because that's your problem, all right. You look at yourself, all right, Will Blackman
