All right, it is a Tuesday couple of NFL games last night live in LA. It's the Herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for megan us part of your day. By the way, one hour from now. The Herd hierarchy. Uh, somebody's gonna be mad at me. Somebody is not going to be happy with me. I am willing to go out there, so jmath. We all feel Kansasity's the best team in the league. We doubt, but what I witnessed last night makes you wonder well, Buffalo is winning the Super Bowl. Now Buffalo forty seven, Jacksonville ten. That's more about the Jags. Come on, Jags are terrible awful. All right, Well, you have to be willing to fall in love even if in your life you've been burned, or you've been dumped, you've been singed. Happens to everybody. I've been burned so many times by the Buffalo Bills. I don't even I don't even like going into the kitchen. I don't like getting near the oven. I've been burned so many times. And they'll probably lose in mid January to Kansas City again in the AFC Championship. It'll be like twenty seven twenty four. Josh Allen will make a big mistake. He'll play well, he's Superman. He'll put on a cape and jump over linebackers with a single bound and then Mahomes will rip your heart out. He'll have the ball last. Yeah, that'll probably happen again. I mean, what's gonna change, right, same quarterback, same coach. Clearly, Kansas City is in everybody's head in the AFC and perhaps the NFC. But this time it feels a little different. I'm willing to fall in love and get burned again. First of all, Joe Brady and Josh Allen they're nine and one together, no more Stefan Diggs drama, and they feel more balanced. I get all the Josh Allen horsepower, but with more efficiency, more balance, and without all the silly mistakes. I don't know, maybe it'll be just, you know, like what I've seen. But it does feel more balanced, it does feel more it feels more like a complete team. And that's what Kansas City is now. They're actually defensive. Lad it's not Travis Kelcey and Mahomes. This kind of feels like, I get the horsepower, but without the mistakes, and that feels like the outcome would be different. And maybe it's just because the AFC doesn't feel quite as power or full. The Bengals defense is just not good enough to end up in a conference championship. Chargers feel like they're probably a year away. They'll be good, but a year away. I mean, the Ravens just don't feel right losing it home to the Raiders. The Texans are remarkable, but they have a young quarterback and they're a young team. Buffalo's not and Kansas City's not, and it feels like they've separated from the AFC. I'm gonna put myself out there one more time. I'm willing to fall in love again. I think it's different. I'm sure all most it's absolutely different. And I looked at the schedule this morning, and I'm willing to make the commitment before the next three games at Baltimore, at Houston, at the Jets. Maybe maybe in three weeks, I'll look up and go, Okay, yeah, there's a lot of home games. Jacksonville a j max point. I mean, come on, give me a break. Those guys barely care about football.
But I don't know.
I'm watching it, and I get all the torque without the turnovers. It feels different.
I like him.
I'm willing to have my heart ripped out in January because I'd like to see him win. I watched the Jim Kelly teams and they were great, but there was the Cowboys or there, and this team is great. It feels great, but there's the Chiefs. But Sean McDermott says it's different too.
When I saw us working together, all three phases supporting one another at times, and that was good to see. We're gonna need more of that move forward. And Josh, you know, I think he hit ten different receivers and his influences felt not only through his play but just the way he's leading our football team.
Okay, then there was the other game. For the record, not a big fan of two games on Monday night football. Thankfully one was a blowout so it could concentrate on the other, which was a better game. And everybody's gonna talk about Jayden Daniels, but that team didn't go into a season, nor are they a championship team.
Now.
I did have Washington making the playoffs. They were my surprise team in the NFL. So this morning I'm feeling pretty good about that. Yesterday I said the Ravens were gonna win seven in a row. I was hacked yesterday that. I don't know what happened there, but let me just say this, it was really about Joe Burrow last night, not his side of the ball, but it was about the organization. He's made them relevant, but he alone can't make them champions. They're twenty sixth in scoring defense, and that's having played New England in Week one and a rookie quarterback in Week three. They're garbage. They got a pass rusher, but Cincinnati's always been a cheap organization, always forever, and there's a reason why teams like the Bears and Detroit and Cincinnati have had great players. The Hall of their their team Hall of Fames are amazing, but they never quite it feels outside of those eighty five Bears, It never quite feels like they're willing to step up and go all in and pay the big money.
Right.
I mean, Jaden Daniels and I think he's going to be terrific averaged eleven yards of completion. He didn't look like that until last night, and I like him. But Cincinnati's a cheap franchise. They've moved off defensive players on the back end, and you saw it last night. And what does cheap mean. They have been working and moving off defensive players for two years. They haven't even paid Jamar Chase yet. They haven't paid t Higgins big money yet, the Joe Higgins, the Jajoe Burrow contract really hasn't officially gotten ugly and kicked in yet, and they're already moving off defensive players. They're cheap, I'm sorry they are. And great players win games, great organizations sustain success. I mean, we can talk about Mahomes all you want. That offense isn't very good right now, and Mahomes isn't great, but they the GM Brett veach, they hit on so many of their draft picks. I mean defensively, they just keep hitting on guy after guy after guy the coach and Reid wins those close games with a clever game changing call at the end situationally, like, you can't just pass that off as Hey, it's Mahomes, No, that's not it. Tom Brady from Ernie Adams to Dante Scarnekia to moving off Wes Welker and finding a quarterback from Kent State, and three years later Julian Edelman looks like a better version of Wes Welker. I mean, they just you can't pass that off. Yeah, Tom won a Super Bowl in Tampa, but that thing unraveled pretty quickly, right because that's what organizations like Cincinnati do. And again, Burrow has made them relevant at times spectacular, There's no question about that. I am not denying that he's made them viable. But players win games, organizations eventually win championships. It is not a coincidence that Brady and Mahomes had the best coach in their era and strong player development. New England went sideways at the end when Bill Belichick thought I can be GMN coach and he Reid doesn't do that. That's why they continue to draft so well. So I look at this game and you go out Jayden Daniels. I'll get the Jayden Daniels after the break. And I've said before is I liked him. I thought he was going to be a hit. I thought Washington was gonna be a playoff team. I think Cliff Kingsbury was a tremendous hire. It's amazing how many of these coordinator hires, Like when Nick Saban went and got Lane Kiff and people scratched their head at or Cliff Kingsbury failed in Arizona, why would you hire him. Some guys are just coordinators, and they're great coordinators, and some guys can be great head coaches. So Washington's gonna work. I think Washington has a chance in this division right now. I like him more than Dallas today, I really do. And I like him more than the Giants. I don't like him as much as Philadelphia, but I think they can make the wild card. But this, to me, watching the game was about Joe Burrow. He's done everything. He's made him viable, he's made him interesting. He got him to a super Bowl. But they have been terrified for two years. They just keep moving off defensive players. They're not even paying Jamar Chase yet, and they're already moving off the back end of their defense and they're owing three. And I don't know what happened yesterday.
I was hacked.
They're not going to win eight straight. And here was Joe after.
We're not happy with where we're at. But by no means is the season over. We're owing three, it's fourteen left to play. We just have to continue to get better, and you know, see where the cards fall in the next you know, ten weeks.
Listen, you don't have to be great defensively to get to a super Bowl.
You don't.
You can't be what Cincinnati is. You know, moving off defensive player years ago, you know Jesse Bates, guys like that Von Bell. They're moving off guys they keep one pass rusher. They're moving off guys they want to make sure they got room. This is why Cincinnati didn't have a big trophy room.
You're not.
When you get a burrow, you go all in. You just if you got to pay more as an owner, you just do whatever you gotta do and pay whatever you gotta pay.
Go.
Look at Carson Palmer in his prime, did the same thing Carson Palmer made, and he was great. Burrow and Palmer were great NFL quarterbacks made the organization viable. But in the end, Carson didn't have an organization that would go all in, wouldn't even consider a practice schedule, a practice facility. Steelers could have one, and Ravens have money. And you know it's just at some point, a quarterback has limitations. As great as they are, they all have limitations. Organizations sustain success the star player, even a quarterback, makes you viable. J Mac, I don't know. I've had my heart broken a few times. I'm gonna I am willing to go. I'm not even gonna wait for the three game roadie for Buffalo. I'm not even gonna wait.
I am.
I am already. I bought an engagement ring for the Bills last night. I am going all in. I don't even care, probably deliver it tomorrow the next day. I don't even care. I'm willing to be burned. So who they beat? One win Arizona and the opener. Arizona looks pretty interesting, but Arizona looked frisky. They came back to earth on frisky.
Who the Bills beat last week?
The team that was in front of them.
Yeah.
Oh so basically they're beating a bunch of weak.
No, no beating them. They're destroying people.
So that matters a lot.
Huh.
Just pummeling the Miami Dolphins, Tua and Skyler Thompson, and now they beat up on Trevor Lawrence and the hapless Jags.
I'll wait to reserve judgment. Let me see what they do against the Ravens. Hey, you can be reticent, you can sit on the sideline. Some of us jump all in, some of us are going all in emotion. Jets are still winning the division.
That remember you got to wear a Jets tank top or just a tank top in general.
I never signed a cop for that. That video of that big guy. Just like yesterday's show and the Bengals eight game winning streak, it's all disappeared into the ether.
By the way, Bengal Panthers Sunday's smash spot for the Bengels, Right, come on, they bounce back.
Yeah.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays and noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app Heard Hierarchy Now No Go the top ten NFL teams according to College number ten.
Okay, listen, it worries me that it's the fifth loss when leading by ten plus points in the fourth under Kyle Shanahan. But I said this, Finally, I look at brock Purty and see a franchise quarterback. No Kittle, no de Bow, no McCaffrey. Offensive protection at the line was okay, and he he was delan and so to me, it's like, yeah, I know, they keep losing, but the kid threw for three hundred and thirty three yards without his weapons. He had his number three receiver and even Brandon I us not working. And they're gonna get some of these guys back. But I'm sorry, I'm gonna trust Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purty at number ten over Dennis Allen and Derek Carr Niners at ten, number nine, the New York Jets. Here's the stat. Here's the stat that I come back to. Aaron Rodgers on third down this year has one hundred and eighteen passer rating. They have the best third down offense fifty seven percent in the league. I have been a huge believer in this stat forever. If you're doing things on third down defense rests builds confidence. It usually means you have a smart quarterback, you're good pre snap, you're getting better than average protection. The Jets third down stat is a real thing and they lead the league in it. And I do think they have a chance to grow because Garrett Wilson and Aaron are going to get better over time. They found that rookie running back out of Wisconsin. He's gonna get better over time. So that stat alone puts them at nine for me. Number eight. The Ravens. Listen, here's another stat. This is a flawed team. They lead the NFL in yards per play. Go ask the guys in Vegas who make a living gambling. That is a huge stat in the league. This forget the score on the Dallas game that was an URS kicking. That game wasn't even competitive. They roll Dallas and Lamar Jackson just look at his numbers this year, three hundred and eighteen yards a game. It's why I took him Sunday. And while I'll always believe in this team, I believe in Lamar Jackson. He's not perfect. We have one quarterback in the league that's perfect. Everybody else has a hole. Lamar's my guy number seven. None of you like Philadelphia. I do now, Jalen Hurts without Shane Steikin. Too many turnovers. They got one plus turnover eighteen to last twenty two games. And I don't love Sirianni, but good god, they outgained the Saints four hundred and sixty yards to two nineteen. And we love the Saints. There are just dudes everywhere. I love the owner, I love the GM. I'm not a huge fan of the coach, but I like their players. And now their AJ Brown comes back. That's a difference maker here. So now they're receiving cars banged up. But I think winning in New Orleans the way they did, the resiliency, the toughness just screams Philadelphia. And I'm a Hurts guy. He's flawed. I don't think he sees the field that has height that great. But I'm a Jalen Hurts guy. I got the Eagles at seven, number six. The Detroit Lions, they finally figured out, oh, we have the best offensive line in football and two above average running backs, maybe we should run the ball more. And they just punched Arizona, pretty scrappy team in the face. Jamiir Gibbs and David Montgomery. That's the best running back tandem in the league, the best offensive line in the league. Just run the ball. Just run the ball. Sam Laporta's injury worries me. This is a very solid franchise. Do I trust them situationally like I would trust Kansas City in the big spot. No, no, No, wouldn't at all. But I think they're a really good team.
Number five.
Okay, the Seahawks with the same players have the highest gridded defense. Now, they haven't played anybody, but I'm gonna tell you right now, when I watch Seattle, you know what I see a little like Kansas City. I see a fast defense with the elite guys at linebacker in the back end. Now, again, they haven't played much and we can bang on Gino. I'm as critical of Gino Smith as everybody. Dude is a completion machine. He completed seventy five percent of his throws. He's not going to give you anything off script often, but he is a I mean, they got a number one receiver, they got an edge rush, they've got a you know, it's like Kirk Cousins. They move the chains. I think they've got weapons I think their back end is outstanding. This new coach Mike McDonald. Baltimore's defense isn't the same. Why the coach. They are really really well coached on that defensive side, with playmakers on offense. I think Seattle's a bit underrated right now. I have him at five.
Number four.
Is Matt Lafleur the second best coach in the league after Andy Reid. What he is doing with Malik Willis is insane. I feel I picked them to beat Detroit in their division. I just think this story with Malite Willis is fascinating. They also lead the NFL with seven picks. We have been saying this for a decade. The only time Green Bay's defense has ever been great Aaron Rodgers won a Super Bowl. I always feel like they underachieved defensively, but they bring the head coach from Boston College over. They're young, they're fast, They're making plays and this has not been a playmaking defense for a long time. And what Lafleur is doing without Jordan Love is notable. This guy is he didn't promote himself. It's little market green Bay, but I still think they're probably they're young in a lot of places, even at quarterback. But I like Green Bay a lot. I have them at four, number three. I keep waiting for the bubble to burst. And Minnesota's good. Here's the other thing. They lead the NFL with sixteen sacks, So forget the offense. Every week. It's a different player defensively. And they're not even healthy. You know. I keep saying Kevin O'Connell has coached they're reckless out of Sam Darnold. I have three different general managers who have always told me you can win a lot of games with Sam Darnald. There's a lot of people in this league. Bill Belichick talked about it yesterday. Outside of the Jets, everybody likes Darnald, and it's the offensive coaches that like Sam Darnald. Back to back home wins. They have hammered the Niners and hammered the Texans. And by the way, I know Brian Flora has hurt some feelings in Miami. Is he the best defensive coordinator in the league. I mean, Brock Purty and CJ. Strouder good quarterbacks, they both said after they lost to Minnesota. Yeah, I saw stuff I've never seen in my life. It's like they saw UFOs, So I think Brian flora Is. I know he hurt feelings in Miami. You got to give that guy head coaching job. You got to consider him. That dude can coach number two. I know, I know, I know, Buffalo Kansas City's gonna break their heart in mid January. But Joe Brady is different. And here's the utter thing. They're not as Josh Allen centric.
They're not.
They've got a running game. They I mean, they're even Josh Allen said it, nobody's keeping track of stats. I like him. Are they gonna beat Kansas City in mid January? Probably not, But I do think this is the best version I have seen of them. I get a little older Josh. They're not as Josh relyant, but you still get the details of Sean McDermott. Number one. The thing that really is scary about Kansas City so they become New England now, is that they have a star quarterback and the best coach. But they're winning with defense. They're so confident situationally. I don't think people are given this defense credit because outside of Chris Jones, you know, they don't have a lot of big stars. Their defense is the fastest in the league, and Rashi Rice has become a number one ride receiver. I'm not saying he's Cede Lamb yet. I'm not saying he's Jamar Chase yet, but he's somewhere in that galaxy. Now here's the thing. They're the only team to start three to zero and they've been out gained total yards. To me, is something it's not. I think yards per plays bigger. I think third down efficiency is better.
I don't care.
I mean some teams, you know, the one of the reasons is they get turnovers so they don't have to play the long field game very often. So sometimes the outgained thing is just our defense is good. I mean, now England got out gained a few times in their career. There you go. It's my top ten again. I don't have the Saints in it. I thought they came back to Earth. It's not a knock on them. But if you're giving me Aaron Rodgers, if you're giving me San Francisco Shanahan, brock Purty, or you're giving me Derek Carran, Dennis Allen, I'm sorry. I gotta make choices here.
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays and noon Easter n am Pacific.
Well, he's the highest graded offensive lineman for the Buffalo Bills the last seven years. He's on his way to a Hall of Fame level. Seven years in the NFL, three Pro Bowls, he doesn't miss games, and now he's got his own podcast studio. So this guy's a player. Dion Dawkins, Bill's offensive tackle joined us every year.
And look at this guy.
Look at this guy? Look at that. Holy well, you got like you You're like a mogul. What's man? How you doing? So I gotta ask you, you know what's happened with Buffalo? And I've said this before. You guys break my heart every year, But this year feels different, area, Isn't it feels different?
Dion?
I think you have a better run game. I think ye had last year. At another tight end, I feel like the offense is got more chess pieces that me watching. Does it feel like that to you?
Yes, I would say that our team has more chess pieces.
That's a beautiful way to put it.
Our team has a whole board of pieces that can be moved in place to get the job done. I feel like in the previous years like everybody knew exactly where the football and was going, which is cool, Like we had Digs and we had those guys, Gabe, we knew exactly where the ball and was going. Now we have a whole rolodex of guys that could do it. We could leave the ball in Cook's hand. We could put it in Dalton ten, We could put it in Knox's hand. We could put it in thirteen, we could put it in put it on zero like, we could put it on ten, We could put it on fifteen like, we could put it on so many different guys at any point. And I think that that's what is keeping the game more exciting and more fun, because don't nobody know where that ball is going, Like if you have a long down, like everybody knew the ball was going to step on and now since we had the change up change, you know, it could go to so many and different pieces. But I think that you just put it best. It is kind of like a like a bigger chess board.
You know, it's interesting when you get into a game like last night, and for you, I mean you don't miss games. You dominate people, but not every That's not the way it works for most players early in that game last night, when you guys huddle and you're just doing whatever you want to do, could you sense by the second drive, Dion, could you sense like they don't want to smoke, Like this is just gonna be our night? Did you know it before it kind of exploded?
Man, I wish that I could say yes. I really do wish that I could say yes. I do think that you know what, Yes, I would say yes. I think after the first drive and everything worked to our accord because you're like, we like we practice, we have a game plan, so every game we just have to execute our game plan. And when when we executed our game plan as fluently as and we did, it's it's a great feeling. Like I know, our goal, like when we touched the football is we want to score. Every time we touched the ball, every time the offense gets on the football field, we want to score. So the first two possessions, when we got on the field and we scored, it was like, all right, this is this is going in the right direction of the coaches put a good game plan in and we're going to execute this at a high level and it's working. But up front, like as an offensive line, like we had a tough, tough battle, like like I had to play against against Josh and it was.
A it was a battle every rep.
And I know Spencer and was battling Connor, Cybo and Dave like every single rep. Like we were battling up front, which made it a good thing for our offense. But since we did our job, it just made it a little bit easier for seventeen.
You know, as I was watching the game last night, and maybe I'll sound like a fanboy here, but there's two places in the NFL that I always think that if you were drafted Bean Bay in Buffalo, and I'm watching that game last night, like everybody's got a jersey on, and do you ever just think, Damn, I got lucky, I got Buffalo, I got Josh Allen, I got a capable CA. I mean, there's a lot of guys coming this league, don and they don't get the coach, they get a bad quarterback, you get traded four times. I'm watched in Buffalo last night, I'm like, man, this thing's gonna work for like eight more years. You may never have to go and you play the right position. You ever think that or that stuff stuff guys like me talk about.
Now, that is the honest truth.
I'm a true believer and God, and you know, everything happens for a reason.
Like I grew up shoveling snow.
Then I get drafted to a place where I could shovel snow every day in my life. You know, Buffalo is just that. And then I get the first year, I get blessed with with with with the presence of being around Tyrod, Taylor and Peterman. And then the following year here comes Josh Allen and when I'm there, and then it's just like, all right, every piece of this is coming together.
The right way.
Like I had OG's that were around me early, which made me feel like I was supposed to be there to implement what was going to be for the future. I had Richie Incognito, Eric Wood, I had, I had OG's Lashawn McCoy, like I had these these heavy hitter players that you know, implemented what they implemented in me early. And then I got to throw it over to Josh and these guys, which now I have a team of leaders that is helping this this thing grow. But I do think that things happen for a reason. I am thankful that I am here, and you are correct with being here.
It is extremely unique.
It Bill's my feet is one of those places where you could be alignment and feel like a quarterback. You could be a long snapper and feel like a quarterback as well, and I'm pretty sure that Green Bay is the same way. And I'm thankful for an organization and a community like this that makes us feel like that, because who doesn't want to be someplace that they're not wanted?
Right Like?
Who wants to be there? But this place makes you feel extremely wanted. So I tip my hat to Buffalo every day. And that's why I give so much passion and I speak with so much passion. But I talk about him because this place is one of a kind and you know, yeah, and he did.
But everything is better when you're winning.
But I want to talk to about DeMar Hamlin's first interception last night, that agile layer. There's there's a layer with this team, and you talked about God earlier. There are things work in mysterious ways, and we watch what happened, how emotional it was. Now he gets an interception, what was kind of the reaction? I mean, that's a pretty special moment in a career.
What was that?
Like, you know, when it happened, I didn't even realize it was his first pick. I really didn't like. I like, I've seen DM and make plays. But the reaction was exciting. The stadium went crazy, yeah, crazy, three three went crazy, and everybody's excitement made everybody excited. So we were all excited just to be excited for dam which I call him slam like we we We were just excited to see this kid that has gone through one of the most tragic things in life and then come back and then be playing at a high level and then get his first pick or on Monday night ball, Like, you can't ask for a better situation. He's showing out in front of the world that has been doubting him and been telling them, oh, he should never touch the football field again, right, and now he's on the football field and it's moonwalking.
So I also tip my hat to de Shlamb.
He is one of the great left tackles in football. So I do a thing every Tuesday during the football season called the hurd Hierarchy. I rank the top ten teams and I gotta be honest, you've been more impressive than Kansas City. I have you number two. I don't know what to do at number three. Every time I pick a number three team, they lose. I have Minnesota Green Bayish in that spot. So I have you number two. Now, I know, I know you don't want to talk about Kansas City. But out of the corner of your eye, Dean like one percent, do you keep your eye a little on the cheek a little.
You are my guy, man, you are something else. I would say. You can never not look. You can never not look. You can never not.
Peek in and see what the reigning champions are doing out of respect.
You can never not do it. I focus on the week ahead.
Us as a unit, we focus on the day ahead, which leads us to folks on the week ahead.
But of course, I like, we're not robots.
I'm not a robot, and I'm pretty sure everyone does.
We all are looking at who won this week?
How did they play? How did this guy do, how did he do? Did this guy do well or did he do bad?
How is this DM doing.
I look mostly at the defensive ends and the d tackles. All I watch is DNS, So I do watch, I do peak and I do check on these teams, especially the ranning champions.
It would not be right if you weren't.
We're playing a game where we're all trying to get the ultimate prize, and if the ultimate prize has been held by one team every single year, I'm gonna keep my eye on them.
I want to know what they're doing.
I want to know what they're doing, what they're saying, how they talking in press conferences.
I want to know how they acting. I want to know what they wearing.
I want to know what type of energy they're bringing to their unit which is making them be successful.
Not just me, just me?
Yeah, well you just you has got your own podcast studio. By the way, all you have to like the studio, No, dude, all you athletes out there, do you notice how good this sounds and how clear it sounds and get a little free sponsor. I know that company what it is. They're loving this. So you have just sued. You have crushed it. And you're not only is Buffalo lucky, You're lucky. That is a great American NFL environment. I love having you on and you know, I know you're busy, dude, and you got stuff to do, but you gave me time today, and I appreciate that.
I'm honored.
I'm thankful, and like how I always say, it's an honor to be an offensive lineman and to do things like this. In this league offensive lineman, we don't have no awards, we don't have no trophies. We go to the SPS, we go to the NFL Honors, we don't get.
No awards, right, so this is an award.
I take this as that when I'm able to get in front of the world and talk ball and just to be seen, I take it with the most respect because it doesn't happen like we're not talking about some of these other tackles that have a personality Like I'm thankful that I'm in that position to inspire others, and I appreciate that this is just something that you know, I watch, I learned, and I say, if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right. And I want whoever's watching to following the right footsteps. Some gonna lead you to success.
The Pride of Temple Great ceeing you, Dionne truly, Yes, sir,
