FULL SEND with Robert Garrigus

PGA Tour member Robert Garrigus is known for his unfiltered, blunt honesty. In this episode he calls players out, talks LIV and PGA Tour leadership, tells wild stories, and discusses the future of the professional game.

They're being so petty about this, which is just bullshit because this is not their fight. You know, this is our deal. This is a PGA tour players, DP World tour guys, the corn Ferry guys, all the affiliated PGA tours. Um. I don't know how many there are ship there's probably seven or eight now, um. I mean, this is our deal, like, and they're making it about them, not us. And it's really frustrating because there's no reason that the live guys shouldn't be getting pumped or pub you know, get that publicity. There's no reason that the DP World guys who've played on live shouldn't be getting that publicity because, to be quite honest, there's only a couple of players out here that really have taken a stance that they actually care. And the douche bag with Billy Horschel, he won't shut the funk up and I can't stand it. Um And even Rory has taken a step back, and Rom's taking a step back because they realize is that it's not a fight you can win. It doesn't matter. Welcome back to the Grind Slash Fire Drill. We're gonna release it on both of the platforms just because we think this interview is so good. Robert Garigis does not hold back. I had him on the podcast before. He just says whatever he's thinking, and this second podcast is very much the same. Talks about Billy Horschel, who he doesn't seem to be a fan of. UH, talks about Ja and the job that he thinks he's doing. UH, talks about Pat Perez, tell some funny stories about traveling, talks about the shooting in Caesar's that was covered up. I mean, just a myriad of things. And again I'll say this, I say you in the pod, I'll say it now in the intro is you can disagree with what Robert has to say. You can disagree about the way he says it. He swears like I do a lot um. But I think as fans we all want honesty from players in interviews. We we miss it from the top players, and Robert is exactly that. He gives you exactly what he's thinking. And that's and even if that pisses off a lot of people, so I respect the hell out of it. Robert choose from the hip. He does not hold back. So um, in just a minute, we're gonna get into it real quickly. I want to thank golf Tech. Golf Tech has helped us out a huge, huge part of what we are doing at fire Pit. Um, golf tech dot com go get some lessons all over the country. Great place to get lessons. They have all the technology you need. It's amazing. They will break down your swing. Uh compare it to to our players. They're the presenting sponsor on the Grind series which will be out soon. Um. They've just been a huge, huge help of what fire Pit and self are doing. So golf tech dot Com go to them, get some lessons. So uh, with that all taken care of, bills are paid. Here is Robert Garrigus. Robert So, I mean, what a welcome to Robert Garrigus. And is Kenny Lurk and Morris Uh, Robert, let's kind of go back. It seems like years ago that you were the first name leaked two that was going to live somehow, it's like eight months ago or something. I don't even know when it was. It wasn't that long ago. I know it feels like years ago. I mean one of my favorite guests is Robert Gargis. He I mean doesn't. He just says it what he is. I say this all the time. I said it after Robert's first podcast came out. Is all we asked from athletes all the time, as journalists, as people who do podcasts, as fans, which I am. I guess all three of those is we want honesty. We don't have to agree with anything. We just want to us And that's what Robert is. You're just like gonna tell it like it is. Uh, Robert, how are you man? I'm awesome, brother, Just getting ready to go to Bermuda. Um right now we're on the number. But I talked to the people and bring me to They're gracious enough to give me a spot regardless of where my number finishes. So um, I'm gonna go over early playing the Monday pro am and um, hob about hob nob with all the Butterfield people and you know, go have some fun over there. I like that golf course. It's usually hard, usually windy, um, you know, and you know I hit the ball really low, so it it bodes well for me over there. But yeah, I'm doing good. I've just been watching a lot of baseball, hanging out with my kids and working out and getting ready running the mountain up here, and yeah, just getting ready for one tournament that I get to play in the rest of the year. Do you is that the only one you're gonna get in, Robert? Uh? Straight away? Yeah, I'm gonna either have the Monday qualify for Houston or RSM. But um, yeah, I thought I was going to get in more with all the Lives stuff, but um, those numbers have kind of filled up, and I don't think I'm gonna get anything other than and Bermuda. But that's okay. If I play well there, then it sets me up for the West Coast? Are you do you look this far ahead, Robert? Do you, like say or do you just kind of concentrate on this week and then make a plan for next season based on like what happens in this fall. Yeah, basically I'm not. I don't. I don't know what the hell is going to happen, because you never know. I mean, I've I might win and get into the Masters and you know, get my card for next year. You never know with me, I mean, let's either one or the other. I mean, I I can hit it good enough, um, and if I get some momentum and make some putts because I'm a momentum putter. If I if I get rolling, man, you never know, I could win the golf tournament. And I still believe in that, and um, everybody on me believes in It's just getting some mojo and you know, getting off to the fucking racist so to speak. It's kind of frustrating when you don't. But um, I can still stripe it. I can hit it better than anybody out there. Um, and you know that's not a cocky thing. I just I've been doing it for so long. I know my ability, and UM, you know, I just gotta believe in myself and go out and make some putts. And you know, like anytime I get on the golf course and I started making birdies, you know, and on the last few holes, I want to play more because I just I'm I'm a huge momentum guy in the golf course, and once that momentum starts rolling, it doesn't stop. And it seems like it's been that way my whole career. So UM, I'm just really hoping that I can get some mojo going this week and um, you know, get back to where I should be as a fully exampt player on tour? What so eight months or I don't even know how long it's been rubber eight months removed? What from a player's perspective, right? Like journal can all look at it? Uh? Uh, you know, but none of us are players. Are very few that are journalists now our players? What what does LIV mean? Do you do you watch it? Robert? Do you have any interest in it? What's your thoughts on it's let's just start there? Do you watch it? You know? I I look at the scores, um, and I know that, you know, there's a lot of guys that are on live that I could. I would play for a million dollars a whole there's no question about that, um. And I see the scores, I see the money they're making, and I make fun of Perez every time he finishes last and the team wins. My girlfriend actually made a badass meme, UM, which made me laugh my ass off, something to the effect of, you know, Dustin Johnson getting carried by some you know, getting the papers carrying Dustin Johnson in this field of whatever, and it says, you know, something really funny. But I sent it to him and he hasn't responded to me yet. But whatever he you know, whatever he does, it's usually in good banter. But he hasn't responded to me yet. But um, I look at the live stuff. I would see the money they're making and I just giggle. Um, there's a lot of money being thrown around, and you know there's some good play um, no question um. And it's obviously by the top players in the world that are playing, um, but the lower half. I mean that's why I wanted to play some so bad because I felt like I could, Yeah, I can kick some mass out there. Go ahead, lorcan go ahead. I mean forty eight players, you went out there quickly, especially with some momentum. And no, the no cut, I mean you're just going from the start. I mean, Robert, that has to be a huge part of it. And Lorc and you can weigh in on this after Robert is I mean, like for you know, I can only speak with the few the only a couple of times that I've been on Caddy down tour, but like the cut is an always prominent part of your day, right, Like I mean, Mark and I don't talk about it, but you know the number those kind of things. So it's like that has to be that would have to be very free to be able to, like, you know, just play knowing that you're gonna make some fucking money. I mean basically, yeah, I mean that's you know, and everything around the PGA tour is centered around your cuts and what you make in your retirement. And the older I get, the more money I get in my cuts plan, the more money I'm gonna make down the road to UM and having no cut events that would free up every single shot that you have, every single time you step on the t box at a second shot at the chip. But whatever it is, you have no pressure, Like there's no pressure to be like, my god, you know, I gotta come down on this last all I can't like, you know, can't make a bogie or I gotta make a birdie. Like it's always in the back of your head unless you're unless you're rolling, Like when you're rolling, it doesn't matter, you're not thinking anything anyways. But you know, in the last five six years for me, you know, it's a big part of you know, getting to the weekend just so I can then free it up a little bit and you know, get after it. Um. Having no cuts is just as silly like that would be that would be amazing. I think all the no cut events I've ever played, and I think of top five like, yeah, I mean it's just been it's been one of those things in my career where it's been a freeing experience, so to speak. What what's your take on the on the whole o w g R debate, Robert, I mean, obviously, the top half of the lift fields are good. Uh, there is no cut that is obviously as a player, you know how you know pressure pack Friday's can be um and what that can mean to your career. There's no qualification process the things that the o w g R has put in place in order to uh or what they say currently is the requirements in order to get o w g R points. So uh, I mean maybe should live get o w g R points And if so, you know, just kind of the reasoning for against depending on on what you say, Well, honestly, I think any tour that has the top whatever players in the world should be getting World ranking points, regardless of cuts or regardless of anything that the o w g R sanctioned board, so to speak. Who has half of the p G a tour on their board? Which is going to have to change because I'm surprised that, you know, I'm surprised Greg Norman hasn't told those guys to take a hype already and try to get them off of there, because they're never going to vote for anything that's Withlive like it's it's it's a it's kind of contradictory area of how it's supposed to go because if they're gonna have cuts in there, you know, whatever, the what are they the meta tour? Is that what it was? MENA Tour? Yeah? That made me fucking giggle, says and just sitting there like, well, they're trying to buy their way into the O W g R, which was smart, you know, because they've got all the money in the world. Um, and then you know all the other MENA Tour events are like seventy five grand, here's one for million, and there's sev you guys go play for sixth grand and we're gonna play for fucking four million over here. Have a nice day. Oh, by the way, you know, this is a real tour, Like they're trying to slide it behind them a little bit, which I thought was smart. I thought that was pretty funny. Um, but I actually think that they should be getting world ranking points because they're playing against other world rank players, like and the PGA Tour is going to try to put a you know, their finger on the ant every time they try and crawl out of the hole, and it's it's gonna be comical just the way that they have to go about it. But eventually they will get their events to have cuts. They started with this horse ship forty tour and ties thing, you know, which is fine. You know, you can get four dudes to get out of there, but they're gonna make their hundred dollars. Um. I just think in the end, it doesn't do golf any good for any of them to not have world ranking points because then you know, obviously the pg Tour won't be trying to monopolize the whole situation, which is kind of how it is, you know. Um, I think that they should get world ranking points for gardless. I mean, this is what we do for our livelihood. I could give two fups about what anybody says online or Twitter or whatever. It doesn't matter, Like unless you have your name on your bag, shut your fucking pie hole. Like that's just how I think because I've been doing this my entire life. I've worked my whole life, and I've been better than most of the world at it basically since I was twenty two years old. And I don't think anybody should be discussing anything other than us when it comes to the World Golf Rankings things, because, um, it's pretty easy to see that they're better than everybody else over there. Do you do you think, Robert, that they the board? I mean, I totally agree. I don't know if I agree with they that they should get World Ranking points. What I think they should do is definitely. I mean, I think it should be up to a board. I'm not for or against them getting points. I think it should be up to a board that's independent. And obviously, as you just stated, the old w g R board is anything but independent. Uh is it? Is it just a true? Uh? Like? Do you think players should be a part of that board? Do you think? You know? Because it's really hard in this day and age to find, you know, people business wise that are not tied to some person who's going to be tied to either one or two of those tours right sore of those tours? Is the board? Could the board be players. Is that I don't even know, you know what a fair way to do this is, but that is what needs to change, is the board that decides whether they get points or not cannot be associated with the tour that is currently in the fight. M No, there's no question about that. UM. I don't know how you do that because the money that's involved with everything is centered around these five tours or four tours or whatever it is, Japanese Tour, um DP World Tour, which is soon to be canceled. Um, you know, the PGA tour, and then do you think that the DPS trump, I don't know how they can survive, like, to be quite honest, I mean it's really it's going to be interesting to see how you know, these people are going to fund that tour when well, obviously they're letting the live guys play out there, which you know, and they try to take a stance like, oh, we're not gonna say this guy's name, or but the dude that just one played in the first three events on the live and they were they were sucking him the first three three days when he was breaking scoring records, they weren't even saying anything about him, and then finally one and they finally had to say something about him because it was his home country. Like they're being so petty about this, which is just bullshit because this is not their fight, you know, this is our deal. Um but and even Rory's taking a step back and Rom's taking a step back because they realize that it's not a fight you can win. It doesn't matter. It's just It's really frustrating when people say in public, Hey, you know, I can't believe this guy's on the driving range, like whatever. I'm like, you can bow your chest out as much as you want, but once you get punched, it doesn't matter. Like you're You're gonna get knocked out regardless. And that's one of the things that I can't stand. The guy's getting on you know, TV and interviews saying all this ship about the live guys. But when they're on the driving range, and I'm gonna say ship to them, nobody's gonna nobody's gonna get a fight on the driving range except for fucking Grace and Bury and Kevin. At least he's lucky. What I mean, what what Lark? We're gonna get to Larkin in the stories of how Robert and I mean, I'm not worried. I gotta get I gotta get to the kid locked in the fucking car started. There was a number of other stories after that. We'll get to him. We'll get to him. Um, Robert, let's let's start at the beginning here. What do you I mean? You're again? This is why I love you as a guest. What's your take on the job that Jay has done. Uh, since Live has announced. I'm gonna say my outside perspective, but I'm not a player and I'm not trying to pretend. It seems like it's been a lot of reactionary that he dismissed Live for a long time and then kind of was like, oh, ship, this is a real thing and kind of reacted to to that. What what's it like on the range in in the clubhouse? Uh? Is Jay still have the support of a majority of players? You know, there's a it's a mixed bag, to be quite honest. Um, every single guy that I've talked to said that he's probably gonna be gone in the next year or two. UM, which I don't know what's going to happen with that. Um. Like I said, he's a really nice guy, but he's not a very good wartime president. To be kind of blunt about it, like he doesn't he didn't really prepare for this, um, and we all know it, and he knows it, like he all he can do is give you the business like answer and say all this was all play and with that's all bullshit, Like all of a sudden, they find hundreds of millions of dollars out of nowhere and you know, say that this is what we planned on doing, and that's bullshit. They didn't plan on doing any of this. You know, they were forced two throw money in the hat because their players are going to live, and they just won't admit it, which is annoying because if they did be like, you know what, if they did say, you know what, we're trying to keep all of our guys here, so we got to throw more money at them, that's all they had to say. And that's bullshit that they didn't, because now they're trying to hide the fact that they've known about this for years and you know, basically dismissed everything that Greg Norman was gonna do. Is like, oh, he can't get a tour gone, he won't be able to sustain it. The Saudis won't put enough money up. Well, the Saudis are putting up fucking billions, and now the PGA tour has got to fork out a little bit too. Um And I think the people on the PGA tour, including myself, UM know that Jay's gotta I don't think he needs to be fired, but I think there needs to be somebody in there that might have some balls, and that's not a parent right now, Like it's just he has to be so political, he has to be so I guess he has to tiptoe around every situation with a business like manner. And I've known that from every PGA Tour commissioner, especially Fincham, Like Fincham didn't even know my name, like you could, you could introduce yourself and five minutes later like who are you? Like I couldn't stand it. But Jay knows everybody. He's a really nice guy. I just don't think that he was ready and his and I don't think it was him per se. I think it's the team around him that are a bunch of fucking goobers, all of them. And it's so unfortunate that the people around him didn't prepare him because it's not really now his job to fight the fires. He gets up and says everything. I think everybody around him, who gets paid millions of dollars to sit in a cart and be a mope like that is just I can't stand that. Like the people that do not do ship and get paid one point five million dollars, there's a bunch of them out there and it's really really frustrating when you know those people didn't prepare they're king, so to speak, because everybody kisses Jay's ass like he's the king. They didn't prepare him for it, and it's unfortunate. I mean we all saw it coming and nobody did anything about it. Do you have I mean you had? Uh the last time we talked Robert on the podcast, you had talked to Jay a lot, and um, you know said what you wanted to say. You're you said then, and I assume you feel the same now as he works for you, Uh, he works for the players. It doesn't seem like that at times from the outside, but um, have you had conversations with him or maybe through him, with people you know underneath him about what he could improve or what he could have done better? Yeah, there's been a lot of conversations with everybody. Um. Obviously when I've talked to Jay, um, it's always been you know, what can we do to make our tour better? And most of it is me telling him that he needs to fucking hire you. And I'm not kidding, especially with all of their social media, it's fucking terrible. I mean, it couldn't be any worse, they have no stories. They try to steal your fucking ship that you post, and then they repost it, even when they're sending you cease and desist letters to tell you not to post ship, but then they go right ahead and fucking do it, steal it from you. And that's just fucking unbelievable. Mason. When we said, Robert, remember we set the world record the first week we were together on one hole. Whatever it was Ryan at the time, you'll know better. It was it night eight or nine under part one. So Robert, you may or may not notice. I think that you do know it. But anyway, we got to number we teat off on number seven at uh Kim Trace. I'm there's the restroom right there, and I ran right in there and I texted Ryan and I said, man, here you go, this has just happened. I said, get on Twitter and you can. You can fucking have this story. And then was the PGA tour. We're not then, we're there, not in touch with you with him. As soon as you released it, right, they were like, yeah, they they put it out. I mean again like it is. I mean, they do it all the time. I appreciate you saying that, and it doesn't have to be I mean they should do it. That That's always been mine is like that's uh what they you know, with cuts and people guys struggling to get up and the things to go through. That's what the PGA tour has that live will never have because all of these guys are getting money up front, which I'm not mad about. Again, I've said it a million times. I totally understand why players are going, uh, you know, like pet Perez, you know, I totally get it. But what the tour has going for them? You know, if we're comparing apples to apples, is they have stories and they don't tell them. And uh, I've said it. I've said it all the time. Will's Alatorus finished sixth and um, you know at the US Open is first major or whatever it was, the second or sixth or whatever, Everybody's like, who's Will's Ellatorus. I'm like, Will's Elatoris has been the best fucking player in the country since he was twelve years old. And it's embarrassing. It should be embarrassing to the tour that people are saying, who's Will Selloturs. I mean he was fucking awesome on the corn Ferry tour. He was awesome at Mondays. Prior to that, he was awesome at wake Forest, Like go invest in the future of the PGA tour. Uh, It's just it's nuts, um it. Do you think that's the biggest issue, Robert is like, they're not you know, outside it. They tell the top player stories, um and and they have. They don't ever tell the struggle, right, They always tell the like and I'm all for telling, you know, Rob Ross stories, the guy who got through and changed his career. But there's a side of pro Roberts. I'm not gonna get into an event. I don't know, you know what the next week brings. I don't know if I'm gonna play Cornford. That's a story too, and people don't know about it. And the tour has access to everyone who with the story, like tell those fucking stories. Yeah, they just don't do it and don't put the effort they have. And I don't know if it's because they're fucking cheap. I don't know what it is, but they could hire ten people to go out and get the stories from every player. They have all of our phone numbers and all of our emails and all of our rights to all of our fucking media. But they don't put the effort into anything because I don't believe they think that it's going to make them any more money. And that's the biggest part, like there's no there's no connection and telling a guy that's struggling two in their head to making a couple more million dollars, because that's what it's all about. Its corporation, you know, nonprofit bullshit. There's billions of dollars in that fun that they don't tell anybody about. But that's fine, Like they can hide all they want. That's the reason why we don't have a players union. Also is because there are taxes a status, so you know, finding those stories about people struggling, they don't give a fuck. They don't care. And that's the one thing that I've noticed about everything is they only fucking care about twelve people, maybe fifteen people, and they pop them as hard as they can. They show them every week on TV, and they don't show any of us, you know, making a put to make the cut, which is fucking huge for us, or you know, whatever it is. They show that top five, top six people and the production team for NBC and ABC, a golf channel. Whatever fucking blows and everybody knows it, and they just can't change it for some reason. And it just makes me laugh every time I'm watching golf, I'm like, why am I watching this guy fucking doing this right now when somebody's who's never had a top ten before, you know, like it just doesn't make any sense. Yeah, I mean, uh, Andy Johnson said it, Shane Bacon has said it, and I have been a huge person like Friday Golf politic uh or Golf TV broadcast should be was only associated with the cut for the most part, show the leaders whatever. No one cares who the fucking leader is on Friday. Uh. It doesn't have anything to do with Sunday for the most part, Like go chase down, like you know, concentrate. I say this all the time. Is what's best about my job is I controlled the narrative. Like no one's telling these stories, so the stories I want to tell. Like so picked seven players that are near the fucking cut and follow them from keen holes and interview them after whether they missed the cut by one or they make the cut on the number or whatever, and and and infest in the who that is, like tell every story like you miss the six for to miss the cut. That interview would be great and it's real and it's what players go through. Like tell that story, Like tell it. It's so fucking It's like it's not that hard. It's just not that. I mean, if they would have followed me the last seven weeks that I played golf, there have been some serious ships going on. I know that, And imagine interview they would have gotten from you and a Victoria National when we stuffed out wedge to that pin. I mean, you know what I mean those seven weeks into making Yeah, I mean I missed six or seven cuts in a row, maybe more, I can't remember. Oh we played in seven weeks National and he rips it right down the middle three fifty and the pin was just over that bunk or on the left, on on that ridge. It's like you cannot hit it close at all, and Rob hits it to like four ft right right above. It was problem probably in the top been top three golf shots you've hit since we've been together. But they didn't show it. They don't have a fun. It was huge for us as a team, like it was huge for you. And it doesn't matter that it was a corn very final it the mental Your mentality is the same whether you're sounding in the middle of the eighteens that August are standing in the middle of the eighteen to Victoria National trying to make the cart. Your reality doesn't change and the quality of the golf shop doesn't change in the circumstance. Yeah, I mean I used the Cliff Krusty line all the time. It's like, yes, you feel in Robert, I assume you feel the same way. But you can add to it. As you know, he said pressure at the top, of course, there's pressure. When I was near the lead and you know, he was playing at bay Hill against Tiger and he's like, sure, there was pressure, but I was playing the best. You know, when you're near the lead, you're playing your best. It's pressure because there's a lot of crowd but not your game. Pressure is like when you have your c game and you're one off the fucking lead cut and you need you know, birdie on the last all that's pressure, right, I mean, that's that That is where golf fans need to be taken. In my opinion on some of these these broadcasts. No, and I'll I have I had a little feather in my cap for a long time on the PGA tour um for nine straight seasons, if I was on the cut line on Friday, I never made bogie to miss the cut. And I made birdie to make the cut ten times. And for nine straight years, I never fucked up on the eight team. My eighteen toll on Friday to miss the cut. And I'll never forget the very first time that I did was that the Players Championship in two thousand and fourteen. I had to make par on number nine and I made bogie and I I still remember, I remember every shot, and that was fucking eight years ago, you know. Um, But that, like you said, that attention needs to be turned to those people and those players, because that's your right. When you don't have your a game and you're trying to sack the funk up and you know, put something together and or not funk up, you know, there's a lot of things going through your head at the at the moment when you haven't been able to do it, and or you know you've been shipped all day and you just need to put it all out of your head. And go ahead and do what you gotta do. But I agree with that, Um, Robert, So where in your opinion? Where does where does this end? Uh? Is there an ending? Like do you do? You do you see a future where Live in the PGA twour just coexists, you know, separately and as we stand now, that's the way it is in the future. Do you think live? And you know my thought and this is just a total guess is eventually Monahan goes away because he's kind of drawn the line in the saying that you know, he refuses to work with Live and Live and the tour coexist. What is live eventually go? You know, what's your thoughts on what where golf is in you know, two or five or ten years, whatever that number is. You know, that's a situation that's gonna be a year by year deal. I think that the pg Tour and Live are gonna have to co exist at some point um, regardless of what stands that Jay is taking at the moment um, there's gonna have to be give and take because it's just going to be a fight for the rest of eternity. If everybody's taken the stance that they're taking right now, Um, you know what, the lawsuits and all the other bullshit and the fluff that's floating around the PGA Tour is going to have to be like you know what, you know, whatever we've got going right now, you know, banning all these guys and everything. Eventually that lawsuit is gonna make it so they they're not banned, um, because there's no way you can tell somebody that they can't play in an event when they were qualified. Um. And that's that's another thing. I think it's going to play out when the lawsuits get settled, which you may take a couple of years or a year and a half or whatever it is. Um. But in my opinion, I think that they have to coexist or there's gonna be more guys that are going to be going to live. Um. But I tell you what, live is probably the best thing that has ever happened to the p GH. We are financially for the guys that are playing fully exempt right now? Is there in that respect, Robert isn't? Is there? Uh? Frustration that the PGA Tour had to have their hand forced in order for some of this money to be returned to the players. The players that you know, have made this tour. Um is that is that feeling accurate on you know, on the range or in the clubhouse hundred percent because the money has been there the whole time and we haven't been a part of it. Um. Now the guys are getting to see what they deserve. And I don't care what anybody says how much money we play for. You tell anybody that you know what you can go out and you can make twenty million dollars this year, but you could also lose fucking three grand. You want to go, give it a shot. Like That's just that's just one of the things that I've as stuck by. It's like, if you want to, you know, bitch about the money that we're playing for, put your fucking name on your bag and come out and see how it goes, you know, Like that's one of the things that you know. We deserve to be playing for twenty million dollars. I mean, I've made two twenty some cuts on the PGA Tour, maybe more. I I don't know the number. I've played over three seventy events, and I've never played for twenty million dollars once. And I could have played better to get to the ten to fifteen million dollar events. Um. But obviously I'm getting older and I'm sucking. My brain is a little scattered sometimes. But now these kids are getting to play for this money, and I'm sucking so happy for him, but I want some of it to Like I want to get out there and play for this talk and twenty million dollars Like that's fucking awesome. That's given me more motivation, which I don't think I would have had otherwise. Um, but I think it's great that they are playing for it. Yes, everybody is a little frustrated of how it happened, but fuck it, it happened. Thanks Norman. Appreciate it. The third the pot, he's sitting there with his fucking Witch's broom just laughing at everybody because now everybody's playing for twenty million. In the end, I think Greg Norman was on all the players side, not the PG eight tour, not in Saudi, all that bullshit. He's in it for the players because he's tried to do this before, and I think that's great. And I've met Norman. I've played with Norman shipped back in the day when I was a rookie. Um. I've always thought he was on our side, and that's all you can ask for. Um, what is your uh? I mean this elevated events? What's your understanding like the field makeup? Robert? I feel like it hasn't been kind of I mean I actually just text somebody It's like, is the Waste Management supposedly he's going to be a elevated event? Are they still to have a Monday because that Monday is the best the best month from a from a journalist who covers mondays, that's the best Monday of the year or one of the best. Honda used to be, UM, Yeah, what do you what's your understanding of what that field makeup is? Like? You know, they haven't explained anything to us yet. They said, hey, you're gonna get to play for twenty million in four events. We're not going to tell anybody if it's a fucking invitational and open or nothing. If you top ten the week before, probably go fund yourself like normal. Um. I would think that the Waste Management Open should still be an open and should still be a Monday qualifier for that UM because last year I was pretty close to top tenning at Pebble Beach. I think I finished like sixt something like that. And I didn't even know if I was going to get in the Phoenix Open if I had a birdie the last couple holes, I had no idea. Um, turns out I may have, but I might might have carried over to Honda. I don't know. Um, but I don't know anything, because I know Heritage's like a one twenty Um Wells Fargo that's a one fifty six, I believe, if I'm not mistaken. And what was so Travelers Travelers, Yeah, Travelers is a one six. I mean those Monday qualifiers just got about seven hundred more applicants. They're gonna have to do fifteen pre queues, like yeah, I mean the fields are going to be a hundred and because like every for those listening that don't know, like past champions who are not in fields sometimes travel across the country to play, sometimes don't, depending on how their game is and how they feel and those kind of things. Robert, I'm saying that's incorrect. You know, if a guy's not playing great and he lives in scotts Dale, he's not going to the Wells Fargo Monday. But now if it's twenty million, he's like well maybe I can, you know, put a bant aid together and shoot sixty five. He's going and the fields are going to be ridiculous for those Mondays. Ridiculous. Yeah, we're gonna need fucking world ranking points for those mother Parkers for sure. All right, um so Bermuda. Uh, let's tell some funny stories on the way out here, gentlemen. So uh, I told this story. You told me this story. Uh, but let's tell it in more more detailed that a tweet doesn't do it. So you're at the is it the barrick Was it Barracuda? Yeah? Okay, so we're at Baracuda. Robert comes up to me on the range and says, you won't believe this, so take it from there. You're you guys are grilling Lorcan you're there, you're grilling Parkin was not grilling. Markin was spectating, which is what he always does and for for in my opinion, and I will argue this with anybody on the PGA tour, the best person, the best boss, but the most important, the best human being on the PGA tour inside the rope. That's my own personal opinion. And I'll go to my grave and I'll argue today is I work for the best person on tour. Not only is a world class golfer, but he's fucking Gordon Ramsey. When the song goes down here he's grilling who who knew Robert Robert Garrigis was a fucking cook. But he's so it's so easy, and you got the fucking bag. Just chill out with the you know, you don't have to jerk him off right here? Bedroom esterr bedroom was an on suite and a gas grill and everything else the house. How did you learn the kid was in the fucking car? So kid? So I'm I'm sitting I'm sitting in the kitchen and I hear him the horn of the car go off, and I was like, what the fun? Like, what is going on out there? Um? I go outside and there's nothing, nobody around the car and nothing and the horns not hawking, And I'm like, well, that was weird? Was that even my car not? So I go back inside and tend to the uh Friday rice I was doing, and I hear lorkin upstairs. I could hear his footsteps and I'm sitting there and I hear the horn go off again. I'm like, God, damn, he's sucking with me like something's going on, and grab the keys. He's like messing with me or something. And I go outside again and the car is like shaking and the horn is honking, and I see this lady walk up next to it, and I'm like, I'm like, what the flying funk is going on over here? So I opened up the grill and the chickens grill on this karaoke chicken, and so I've gotta tend to it. I don't want it to burn. And I look over at her and she's like, um, is this your car? I'm like, oh, I'm sorry, Do I need to move it? Like I thought I parked in the wrong spot? Whatever? She said, no, no, no, Um, I don't know how to say this, but my seven year old nephew just got in your car and locked himself in it and he won't come out. And I literally started belly laughing. I was like, what the funk are you kidding me? Like that's awesome, like I thought it was so funny at the time. And he's in the car, just killed vipers, unreal, And I'm just sitting there and I'm like, Okay, how how do we get him out of the car, And like, well, that's fine. He locked himself in there. I've got the keys. It's like, that's that's easy. So Laurcan comes downstairs and he's like, what the fun is going on? I'm like, dude, I don't know. I this kid just locked himself in our car. Um And I go over there and I hit the unlocked button. The kid just looking a him and he hits the lock button like he won't come out, like he's just staring at me a little prick. And I hit it again. He hits it again. I hit it again, he hits it again, hit it again, he hits again, like holy sh it. And so Laurcan is trying to grab the door knob while I'm hitting unlocked, and they finally get the thing open after this kid stops sucking around. So the story is is the kid didn't like what his dad said to him at the recreational center across the street, which is three d fucking yards away three yards and he walked barefoot, soaked in water across a busy fucking street. Could have got killed easily, could have got killed about this part, but the story is so good it's unreal. So he walks across the street, decides to get in the only open car, which was my fucking rental car. Sits down and starts hawking the fucking horn and looking at his aunt like he's like, he's somebody, So will you get up to the car? And Lorcan is standing next to me. He opens up the door and I look at this lady. I'm like, is this kid autistic? Because if he isn't, I'm ripping him out by his fucking hair because he's tearing my rental car up and he's got no business in my fucking car right now. And so Lorcan's like, okay, dude, let me handle this, and he can. He can take it over from there. Lurkan let me hear. Okay, So the kids got the door open. Yeah, well he's like Robert said, he was inside of the car, beating, beating on the dashboard, on the horn. He was covered in grass. Somehow it was covered in grass. It was ship all over the inside of the car. And yeah, anyway, I'm a train, I'm a trying d m T. So I said to Rob go get the go deal with the food. I said, I can, I don't. I don't how to talk to a kid that's in distress like this, as you learn it in the fire Academy. And I talked to him and I said, you like football? No, you like baseball? No? Um, what do you like? Nothing? Do you like golf? I love golf, That's what he says. And I said, well, you know, one of the best golfers in the world is staying right there in this house. And he said in what house? And I said, that gentleman that was just here talking to you was one of the best, one of the best golfers in the world. And he said really, and I said yeah. I said you want one of his hats? I said, he'll sign it, and he goes yeah, And I said, well, you gotta get out of the car. He gets out of it, gets steps down, out of the car and he said I had That's what he says. So I said, let's go over here to the steps. So Robert's grilling. I go upstairs and getting one of them, one of the men Dalia hats. I bring it down and then I handed to the kid and the kids throws it on the ground and he says, it's not fucking signed. Seven years Roberts and gotta fucking ask me to sign it, and then I'll okay, brings the hat up to him. Well it's not even polight, he's just like hands it to him like that. Robert asked him his name, signs, signs, the name, gives the kid, gives the kid the hat, and then the aunt says, I don't have the cell phone. Can I borrow your phone to call my dad? Oh? Yeah, no problem. So Robert's getting I said, he's dealing with dinner. I'm gonna deal with you. Takes my phone, calls probably six or eight times, no answer. Front desk at the recreation holls them what's going on? To go out to the pool to get the dad. Finally, Robert and I actually sat down and started eating dinner. Right now, these people are still outside our our condo Tahoe, and the phone rings, and the mom or them, I give it to her, she says, oh, tells him where he are. He comes across the street. They don't get out of the car and acknowledge and the thing that we've done with this kid. They put him in the car and the dad turns around to the kid and I quote, do you want to go get ice cream. Oh my god, that was it. They shut the door aft and Robert turned to me and said that right there as a kid that's going to shoot a school up. And that was itable unbelievable. That was part of a series of three different things. Yes from there. Yeah, Lauren, Robert's girlfriend, was at a bachelor bachelor bachelorette party in Caesar's in Vegas, and Robert said, do you want to go to Vegas on Saturday night? And I said, we'll go. So we went to Caesar's and that Rob Rob you can you can start telling stories from there from where you will point down and turned it into without seven ground quickly. Yeah, So we go down to gamble. There's a there's a whole bachelor bachelor at party, like a combo party with my girlfriend's brother his fiancee. And we go down there and I decided I wanted to gamble a little bit, so I took five hundred bucks down my birthdays eleven, eleven seventy seven. So I always play eleven and I have a system when it comes to roulette, and I usually win. Um. I usually went a lot, and I'm probably up a half million dollar gambling on the roulette table in my life. Anybody can attest to it that's ever seen me play. Um, So I go down there, I put two hundred dollars or no, yeah I did. I put to two dollars on eleven and a bunch of other numbers. I put, you know, three hundred dollars on the rest of the table, and it fucking hits eleven and that's seventy right out of the box. And I'm sitting there, I'm having a good time. I'm you know, it was like, all right, I lose a couple of grands. I decided to cash out. Well, I had been up you know, and we traveled and all this stuff, and I decided that, you know, Lauren and I are going to go back up to the room say goodbye to his brother is you know, future sister in law. And we go up to the room and I get a phone call from working and he's like, dude, are you okay? Like where are you right now? I'm like, what are you talking about? Him? Up in the room, He's like, dude, there was a shooting down in the casino. And I was like what. He's like, yeah, it's like this guy ran by me with a gun. It's like sucking people scattered, and I was like, what the fuck? Um and Laura, can you know? Obviously I told him the room number. He ran up there. He's fucking soaked. He looked like urban cowboy with this fucking rattlesnake boots on and his fucking white button down shirt and he's soaked, like completely fucking soaked, sweating, freaking out like there was a fucking shooting inside of Caesar's in the food court, Like there was only three shots or four shots fired. You know, the guy was probably shooting at one specific person that wasn't like a mass shooting, and the casino fucking covered all of it up. Oh ship, we went down. I went down in the street and I came back in. Man, and Robert will tell you they've called felt like felt curtains around the entire casino and unplugged every slot machine and that was it, and everybody disappeared. So it was when we got there, it took us so long to check in. Caesar Is one of the busiest lobbies in Vegas on a Saturday night, and zero people. Nobody was around at all period. Everybody was gone. What what a week? You guys? Had what a week. That was Holy sh it, that wasn't over. Yes, I was up about bucks on a slot machine and I had to wear with all in a public shooting to push my chair up against the machine like I reserved it like, and then I life. So I don't know if that makes me smart or degenerate. Cobler General Cobbler. Yeah. Then then we get up the next morning and we got to catch a flight, and you know, I don't drink, and Lurcan wasn't drinking. So nobody's hungover except maybe my girlfriend. I think she had some drinks. Whatever. But we get we get to the airport and you know, we get on the flight. We go from Funk. I didn't any know where we were going to be quite honest. Uh we went from Vegas maybe the Yeah, there we go. We find in Minneapolis, and uh, I get off of the flight. Now Laura and I were up front. I don't think we were in first class. I think we're just all the way up front, like behind first class, and Lorcan was all the way in the back. And get off the flight and I see seven police officers waiting at the front as we get off, and I looked at Lauren, and I was like, I will gearing fucking to you right now that Lorcan knows exactly what happened to have those seven police officers there, and I'll let him take it from there. I'm literally sitting in the very last row of the airplane on the aisle, so directly in front of where the where the crew is back there. And I got on. I was one of the last on and I sit sit in my seat. Well right opposite me, there was two kids and they both had the lanyards the what did they call it, unaccompanied minor lanyards, And I don't think anyway, there's an open seat right there beside the aisle. Seat is open. This guy gets on and sits down. Um flight flight takes off. But these kids, what they attacted, My attention was, they're kind of reminded me a little bit of how I would have been in the fights, an accompanied miner on an airplane. Like they're no, they were totally fine, they weren't misbehaving, but they're definitely like trying to figure out what what the funk we can do to cause some ship right when I not get in trouble. So anyway, the flight goes off, no problem. I fall asleep. And when we get to Minneapolis, the deep plans clearing out from the front, going back, going back and back, and the air hostess talking to the people in front of me on the two on the two rows on each side, and then she comes back and she says, can I have a word with you? And I was like, yeah, in the middle of the flight, let me I forgot about this. In the middle of the flight, the guy that came down and said something to the guy on the aisle beside the two kids, and then he got up and he went to the front of the plane. So she came down at the end of the flight and she said, can I have a word with you? And I said yeah, And she goes, did you see that gentleman on the aisle do anything inappropriate with either of those kids? And I said not not one and I have no And I said no, no idea at all. And she goes, are you sure, And I said I've never been more sure of anything in my life and I said I didn't. I didn't see anything. Nobody down there. So everybody said they saw nothing, nothing. There was nothing to do with this anyway. Those two kids said some story that this guy did something inappropriate with him at thirty eight thousand feet. Look the dude right off the plane. And when I saw Robert, he had this look on his face and I was ever to m to not to not say, dude, it was me. I got caught in the bathroom doing something a thirty eight ship. Holy sh it, what a three days out of control? Yeah, we're looking for a quiet week in in Minneapolis. Man, what didn't get buddy collapsed for like seventeen over after fifteen or something we left. Yeah, we got a quiet week all right? Oh ship, guys as always great, Robert h I'll say it again. All we ask is journalists fans is for people to be honest and and thank you enough for your honesty about all this stuff. Um. People can disagree with you or whatever, they can never say that you know, you don't, just speak your mind and I appreciate it more than more than I can say so, Larkin, thanks for being on um. Robert man, you guys, you guys have been great and I appreciate it very much. Yeah, you got a brother, and I'm still pushing for the PGA tour to I are your ass or buy out your fucking deal, so you guys can work for him and actually push the fucking stories that need to be told, because they're pushing ship that doesn't need to be told. So I appreciate all your work and everything you do, brother. I will keep doing it, Robert, look forward to telling uh the story of why this top ten in Bermuda means the world to you and what it means to your career and those kind of things. So play well down there. Thanks for your time. Thank you, rather have a good one.
