Seven premierships in the 20 years from 1968-1987 meant that Carlton had a deserved arrogance. But going into 1993 Carlton were in unchartered territory. They’d gone four straight years since making the finals, and it had been 90 years since they’d gone 5 years without a finals appearance.  

With this mini-rut in motion Club President John Elliott had gone back to the future in 1991 and hired the man he sacked in 1985, David Parkin.

Going into 1993 the pressure was on. They were desperately unlucky in 1992 to miss out on the Finals, but with players like Kernahan, Bradley and Silvagni at the peak of their powers and the addition of Williams it was seen as now or never for the Blues.
