Excitement is growing for Greenpop’s Reforest Fest 2025! Now in its 14th year, this flagship tree-planting and restoration event continues to evolve, offering an even more impactful and inspiring experience. Set against the stunning backdrop of Bodhi Khaya Nature Retreat in the Overberg Region, the festival will take place from 18–21 April 2025.
Participants of all ages will come together to plant thousands of trees, camp under the stars, savour plant-based culinary experiences, and take part in a variety of workshops, classes, and live music performances. The site features interactive art installations, with wellness and nature-based sessions held regularly. Attendees will also enjoy delicious meals crafted by renowned local chefs. Expert speakers will enrich the experience by sharing insights into key environmental issues and practical tools for embracing sustainability at home.
Greenpop is an official partner of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This global project is a 10-year-long commitment focused on stopping, slowing, and reversing the damage to ecosystems across the globe.

On 28 March 2025, Freedom Park Heritage Site and Museum, in partnership with the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Trust, and the National Heritage Council hosted a landmark event to commemorate 100 years since the birth of Dr Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe, one of the most revered leaders in South Africa’s liberation struggle.
Under the theme, "Return to the Source: Rekindling the Values of Robert Sobukwe," the celebration invites South Africans to revisit the principles that defined Sobukwe’s life—integrity, courage, Pan-Africanism, and an unyielding belief in African self-determination.

#FreedomMonth: Honouring Sobukwe at 100: A Centenary Celebration Rooted in Reflection and Renewal

In his oratorio, Messiah, German-born English composer Georg Friedrich Handel (1685-1750) gave humanity music with both meaning and artistic appeal. You would have to search deep in the canon of art music to find a work to rival Messiah in this regard and likely fall short. Like all iconic art, it carries mystery and legend. For example, why do we all rise to our feet as soon as the Hallelujah chorus starts, and why did Handel decide to premier this work in Dublin?
Handel looked to the poetry of the King James Version of the bible for texts, but Messiah is universal in its message and appeal.
In South Africa Messiah has been a staple for choirs of all backgrounds and proficiency levels over the last hundred years. There was even a performance of the Hallelujah chorus by political prisoners on Robben Island in the 1960s, recently the subject of a BBC radio documentary. Sections of Messiah still form part of prescribed repertoire for singing competitions and music examinations.
