Guest: Zulaikha Patel- activist
For our #FeelGoodCorner this week, we’re talking about the power of youth activism and how young voices are shaping the future. We’ll be looking at inspiring figures like Zuleika Patel, who, at just 13 years old, led a movement against discriminatory hair policies in South African schools. Her courage shows how young people can stand up against injustice, and we’re here to discuss how these movements are breaking down barriers.
Today she is an internationally acclaimed speaker, human rights activist, and author. She has now been honoured with the Media Influencer of the Year Award at the BRICS and SCO Young Leaders Award in Kazan, Russia. The prestigious accolade was officially announced during the Republic of Tatarstan’s Student of the Year 2024 awards ceremony on 26 January 2025.
This globally celebrated event brings together exceptional young leaders from BRICS and SCO member nations, recognizing their contributions to sustainable development, public diplomacy, and societal transformation. Zulaikha’s recognition highlights her unwavering efforts in identity empowerment, amplifying marginalized voices, and using storytelling as a tool for advocacy and change.
