For many teenagers, skin struggles are more than a passing phase. They shape confidence, social interactions, and how young people see themselves. Breakouts, inflammation and sensitivity are rising among South African teens, but so too is a concerning trend: young people are copying adult skincare routines filled with potent actives their skin is simply not built to handle.
This phenomenon is heavily driven by social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, where influencers, some very young themselves, share product reviews, "get ready with me" (GRWM) videos, and viral content that makes adult regimens seem essential.

The Madlanga Commission continues today, with the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona.
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona is expected to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.
Senona and his son, Thato, have been linked to criminally accused tender tycoon Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. The commission previously heard that Thato Senona had business interests with Matlala and that the pair had a potential property deal in place. Senona will be expected to respond to allegations of a questionable relationship with Matlala. Last year, Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo presented evidence showing WhatsApp exchanges between Matlala and Senona. Matlala allegedly requested FICA documents from Senona for his son, Thato. In one instance, Senona referred to Matlala as “brother”, raising questions about a potentially corrupt relationship with the man accused of capturing the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
