Opinion Piece by Dudu Msomi: Young blood is needed to ensure corporations remain dynamic, competitive and innovative

View descriptionShare

Guest: Dudu Msomi, Transformative Leadership & Board Development Programme Designer - seasoned business leaders & academic

OPINION PIECE: It is disappointing, but not surprising that boards are still using ‘dearth of talent’ as reason for retaining members. In the instance of Sun International, the consideration was to increase the retirement age for directors from 70 to 75 years old. One of the most critical skills and responsibilities of a board of directors is strategic thinking. Having the ability to have a bigger picture, anticipate the future challenges and opportunities, and direct the organisation with a long-term vision and foresight. It is about focusing beyond operational oversight to shaping the future of the organisation that includes the leadership of both executive and non-executive talent.
