Classism is differential treatment based on social class or perceived socialclass. Classism is the systematic oppression of subordinated class groups toadvantage and strengthen the dominant class groups. It’s the systematicassignment of characteristics of worth and ability based on social class. Many of us encounter such in one form or another from friends, peers, and Family . Our value is determined by what we have, how much of it we have, how we present ourselves, how well we speak English, the type of apartment we have and where it is located, and the weight of our last name. Each of us has placed someone in a certain category based on one of these factors, and we have been or are being placed in certain categories as a result. But are we really like this? Is this the kind of community and people we have built for ourselves? Our society's philosophy and values have been influenced by classism, which has resulted in the acceptance and justification of these inequities. Even the authorities admit that our society is divided into the rich, middle class and the poor.
