He earned his undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his master's and doctoral degrees in education policy and leadership from Harvard University.

Professor Jeff Brand is the Deputy Provost, Education, and a Professor of Communication and Media at Bond University in Queensland, Australia. He has been labelled “Australia’s leading researcher of interactive games” for his biennial 22-year-long panel studies, Digital Australia and Australia Plays on video game audiences. Jeff has been awarded a National Excellence in Teaching Citation from the Australian Office of Learning and Teaching for developing a Virtual Learning Environment in Minecraft.
