About Mark Holmes

Mark began his publishing career back in the UK before moving to Australia in 1998. Mark was key in the setup, management and implementation of the Melbourne Trading Post online website and sales teams before moving on to work for Channel 9 as a project manager for key programming sponsorships including The Footy Show, Getaway and A Current Affair. In 2003, Mark ventured into creating his own business ‘Yarra Media Pty Ltd’ with the sole focus on producing an informative, fun, children’s newspaper title that encouraged reading and learning across both primary schools and also homes nationally. Today, ‘Just Kidding’ is Australia’s largest kids magazine in circulation distributed to over 800 primary schools with a circulation of just over 220,000 copies per issue.

About Just Kidding

Just Kidding is an informative, entertaining read that appeals to both boys and girls aged 7-13 years. The newspaper title is curriculum aligned where the most common educational learning themes are constantly researched and developed alongside specific teachers notes for in class learning. With a pagination of between 80-120 pages per issue, Just Kidding makes reading fun not only through educational content but also through the likes of sports, interviews, movie news, competitions, activities and much more.

About Ian Preston's work

Ian's work is wide and varied. At the Murrumbidgee Academy of STEM Excellence he provides STEM opportunities for students in his local learning communities. This includes the Aeronautical Velocity Challenge, F1 in Schools, Science and Engineering Challenge,  STEM lending ending library enhance staff capacity and confidence to deliver STEM & much more

As the Deputy Principal at the NSW Virtual STEM Academy he provides STEM
enrichment for rural, regional and remote students, with particular emphasis on female and Indigenous students in collaboration with the QLD Virtual STEM Academy with Wendy Bode and John Jose.

He is part of the Australian Virtual STEM Academy which is a collaboration between QVSA, NSWVSA and NTVSA, with funding from Schools Plus and the St George Foundation

Through the iSTEM syllabus, he has been involved in contributing by writing and reviewing topics and & materials

He was a contributor to the Australian Virtual Astronaut Challenge in its first year and continues to be so today. This STEM challenge is available globally.

Through the iTeachSTEM website, he is involved in its implementation including the sharing of resources

Ian is a Global Teacher Ambassador and is about to deliver an online PL session on STEM for Malaysian teachers. This will be on their nationwide PL channel designed to continue staff professional development

Dr Vhairi Mackintosh is the Learning & Outreach Manager for Science Gallery Melbourne at the University of Melbourne where she manages an annual transdisciplinary STEAM program for school students. She is an Earth Scientist by trade, but has spent most of her career co-designing, facilitating and managing informal learning and outreach programs. She works to create more equitable opportunities for all young people, so that they have the skills and knowledge to choose any pathway.

About David Crisante

David Crisante is a communications and comedy expert who trains others on more impactful communication styles. He founded the Sydney Comedy School and Future Science Talks – which runs Australia’s only government-funded Science Comedy Program for scientists.  Each year he trains thousands of people on how to be more effective when on stage and giving presentations.  

David ran media and communication teams within science and health organisations for over five years.  Prior to this, he was in diplomacy and international crisis response for Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.  He specialised in the response to MH370, the Syrian War and was a political speechwriter for the Foreign Minister.

David started his career as a journalist for seven years, where he was a reporter for the ABC and SBS, as well as an international correspondent in Tokyo for two years, where he specialised in reporting on the nuclear disaster of 2011.

In 2024, David has featured in seven festivals including the Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Brisbane Comedy Festival, Darwin Fringe, Melbourne
