Another week, another streamer rom-com has taken over the internet. This week’s film of the moment? Voicemails For Isabelle, the Netflix hit everyone is calling the best rom-com in years. The film follows Jill, a grieving chef played by Zoey Deutch, who keeps leaving wildly confessional voicemails on her late sister Isabelle’s old number - only for that number to be reassigned to Wes, played by Nick Robinson, an Austin real estate hotshot who starts listening in and falling in love from afar. So, is this a swoony 90s rom-com throwback, or are movies trying to recreate something that was lightning in a bottle? Or does it not really matter, and can’t we all just suspend reality for two hours and watch hot young people do hot things? We discuss.
