This song was written before I knew what it was actually about, it came to be in the middle of a transformative period of my life, where things felt really strange and uncertain. To me, this song encapsulates the period between manifesting transformation in your life and it coming to be. the liminal space where you’re not where you used to be, but you haven’t quite reached your next destination. the aching for steadiness in a rough sea, while holding gratitude for the journey itself. Being in a (slightly) less chaotic era of my life, I look at this song with a lot of tenderness. I felt confused by Hidden Treasure in the writing process. Now I look back and see so clearly that this song was written by someone who was grappling with the realities of being in their first committed queer relationship, deciding to dive into music full time and navigating the massive life changes that happen in your 20s.

The Devil by Tanya George
There's a wink buried in this song, and that's what makes it so good. Built on a cool, laid-back groove with a playful bounce that pulls you in before you've even clocked what's being said, recounting a slow, almost inevitable slide from innocent wallflower to willing participant with the kind of candid humour that only comes from lived experiences or seeing others go through it.

I think it’s a feeling that you get driven to when you’re with someone who won’t commit, who keeps you a secret, or makes you feel like you’re not enough, and I’ve experienced that heaps of times. In a way, you just want them to love you even more desperately, to prove that they were wrong about you, even if, realistically, you know you’ll never be what they want. You can see that sentiment in lyrics like: “taking off my clothes to be the secret that you keep. I know that i’ll never be the person that you need”.
