Perth Glory head back to HBF Park with zero points on the board after an insipid, first half against Brisbane. Blayne, Jaxon, and Renton break down what went wrong at Suncorp, why square pegs in round holes are killing Glory's process, and why the midfield urgently needs Jay O'Shea pulling the strings.

Elsewhere, Bayswater City are flying the WA flag with pride in the Australian Championship, taking the scalps of Marconi and Sydney Olympic. The lads call out the A-League's chaotic Sunday scheduling clash, unload on the $46 A-league tickets, and discuss Auckland FC getting exposed by the Wanderers.

Plus, Harry Kane takes home the 2026 Ballon d'Or, Sam Cosgrove earns a suspension for his press conference blow-up, and the panel previews a high-stakes Round 3 home clash against Adelaide United.

The Homecoming

Round 1 is in the books, and the A-League is back with instant controversy, tactical teething issues, and plenty of fire. Blayne, Neil, and Renton unpack a chaotic opening weekend, starting with Perth Glory’s frustrating 2-1 defeat to Macarthur in Campbelltown. Despite a world-class 25-yard strike from skipper Tom Lawrence and an immense shift from young centre-back Cher Deng, Glory left empty-handed after a contentious handball penalty against Calem Nieuwenhof turned the contest on its head.

The boys dissect the fallout from Lawrence’s unfiltered post-match comments, slamming media pundits who think players should be silenced by club PR shields. We review the drab, scoreless Sydney Derby, questions why the league insists on burning its marquee rivalry chips in Round 1, and applauds Bayswater City for flying the WA flag with a stunning 3-1 win over Marconi in the Australian Championship.

Plus, Neil vents about the hideous Chicken Treat sponsor sticker ruining Glory's slick 90s retro kits, the panel calls out Newcastle Jets for banning a veteran journalist over unpaid wage reporting, and the lads preview a sodden Friday night trip to Suncorp against Brisbane Roar.

An unnatural position

The longest off-season in world football is finally over! Blayne Treadgold, Neil Sherwin, Jaxon Bassett, and James Renton pull up their chairs for the season opener as the 2026/27 A-League campaign kicks off.

South Melbourne blew the roof off Australian football by becoming the first non-A-League side to lift the Australia Cup, taking down Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park and setting the promotion and relegation debate on fire. The lads break down what this historic cupset means for the domestic game, why our off-seasons are absurdly long, and the looming 2029 Silverlake loan deadline.

Back out west, Perth Glory celebrates its 30th anniversary. While Macron’s 90s style retro kits and the nostalgic return of Chicken Treat look absolute class, the reality on the pitch is far more tense. With Adam Taggart mysteriously unattached after a two-game stint in Vietnam, no proven goal scorer on the books, and an unproven squad heading into Round 1 against Macarthur, the crew debates whether Glory can avoid another bottom-three finish.

Plus, Jaxon shares his off-season PlayStation 2 repair hacks, Neil vents about player recycling killing club loyalty, and the panel locks in their fearless (and wildly differing) ladder predictions for the season ahead.

Key Topics:

The 146-Day Itch: Surviving the longest off-season in professional football, Jaxon’s retro console restoration project, and why Australia desperately needs an expanded 18-team competition with a proper 34-round schedule.

South Melbourne Makes History: The magic and significance of South Melbourne’s Australia Cup triumph over Melbourne Victory. What this win proves about traditional clubs, football narrative, and the urgency of a national second tier.

The Pro/Rel Blueprint: Insights from Matt Windley’s FSAA briefing, tackling structural governance, the 2029 Silver Lake repayment cliff, and how an open pyramid can finally reconnect grassroots football with the top flight.

Glory’s 30th Milestone & Squad Reality Check:

The verdict on the new 90s heritage kits and retro merchandise.

The glaring holes in the lineup: who steps up as the holding six, and where do the goals come from without a recognised number nine?

The ceiling and floor for Adam Griffiths’ side heading into Round 1 against Macarthur.

The Adam Taggart Mystery: Unpacking the bizarre saga surrounding the former skipper’s abrupt exit to Vietnam and why he appears stuck on the sidelines until the January transfer window.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly:

Good: The winter Italian football festival at Dorrien Gardens and Sam Kerr Football Centre, plus Jaxon surviving his maiden amateur season with Perth Hills United.

Bad: The Socceroos failing to kill off Egypt in the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, and the financial reality of 94% of English clubs operating at a loss.

Ugly: Wholesale squad turnover across the A-League stripping away fan connection, and Manchester United's shambolic Premier League collapse.

2026/27 Predictions & Round 1 Tips: Premiers, Wooden Spooners, Golden Boot contenders, and Johnny Warren Medal picks, followed by opening-round previews of the Sydney Derby, Auckland vs Melbourne City, and Glory's clash in Campbelltown.

It's the hope that kills you...

The 2025/26 A-League season has finally crossed the finish line, and the boys are here to hand out their final grades for the Perth Glory

Blayne, Neil, Jaxon, and Renton take a ruthless deep dive into the good, the bad, and the very ugly of a campaign that saw the Glory finish 10th and miss the finals yet again. From Adam Griffiths' iconic "I am a Lion" press conference to the disastrous sacking of David Zdrilic just two games in, nothing is off-limits.

Plus, the crew debates the massive off-season rebuild: who stays, who goes, and what needs to happen to bring Aleague success back to the West?.

Key Topics

The Season Post-Mortem: Neil praises the brief three-game win streak that brought some much-needed joy back to the fanbase. Meanwhile, Jaxon highlights the sheer brilliance of Tom Lawrence when he was fully fit and firing.

The Bad & The Ugly: The boys rip into Glory's abysmal home record of just 16 goals in 13 games. They also blast the club's ownership for absolute radio silence and the chaotic mismanagement of sacking Zdrilic in October after backing him all off-season.

Report Cards: The hosts dish out their grades for on-field performance, off-field operations, and overall progress. While the club's media team gets a glowing shoutout for surviving the trenches, the board and ownership receive a brutal failing grade across the desk.

The Griffiths Verdict: Will Adam Griffiths be handed the reins full-time?. The boys agree he’s the most likely—and cheapest—option, even if he hasn't entirely convinced everyone.

Contract Crunch Time: With a massive list of players out of contract including Taggart, Lawrence, O'Neill, and Pennington, the crew debates who to build around next season. The ultimate hypothetical is thrown on the table: signing Jason Cummings.

A-League Finals Preview: Newcastle officially lifts the Premier's Plate, while Adelaide dramatically sneaks into second. The boys lock in their predictions for the Auckland vs. Melbourne City and Victory vs. Sydney FC elimination finals.
