After looking at the historical and literary context in which the Book of Revelation was written, Cale begins to dig into the text itself, looking at Revelation 1:1-7. We also see the importance of the priesthood that all baptized Catholics are called to take part in in the kingdom of God.

Continuing through the Book of Revelation, we see today Jesus Himself address seven churches. In this episode we look at what Jesus says to the church in Ephesus — and what the Lord has to say to you, too.

Continuing the series “Unlocking the book of Revelation”, Cale addresses the ten days of persecution mentioned to Smyrna, as well as what is meant by “the crown of life”. He also discusses the letter to the Church in Pergamum and the importance of staying faithful to the teaching of Christ. “And to the angel of the church in Per′gamum write: ‘The words of him who has the sharp two-edged sword.“‘I know where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is; you hold fast my name and you did not deny my faith even in the days of An′tipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and practice immorality.So you also have some who hold the teaching of the Nicola′itans.Repent then. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone which no one knows except him who receives it.’” Revelation 2:12-17

Revelation 13 is perhaps one of the most misunderstood chapters in the Book of Revelation. In it we see two beasts, one that rises out of the sea and another that rises out of the earth. What does the number 666 mean? Who is this first beast? In this episode, Cale gives the historical context for this passage and what it meant to the first hearers of this Scripture, which in turn helps us to understand it when we read it today.

Who is the second beast that rose out of the earth? What is the “mark of the beast” and what does it mean? Cale continues to unpack this mysterious chapter by drawing on history, as well as both the Old and New Testament to shed light on what the text means.

Throughout the centuries people have posited who the Antichrist might be. There have been some absurd claims. Revelation 19:17-21. The justice of God. Cale shares the story of a modern Christian missionary, Graham Staines, who was martyred for his faith in Jesus. The reaction of Graham’s wife is a striking example of the mercy and love of God. What does the ‘thousand year reign of Christ’ refer to in Revelation 20:4?

Revelation 20:1-10. We see a bottomless pit, the Devil being bound then let loose, and martyrs. What is the ‘thousand year reign of Christ’? Did you know that Solomon was an exorcist?

Revelation 20:11-15 . God fights for His people – and you have a role to play in the drama of salvation history. Much of the apocalyptic imagery in Revelation that speaks of the return of Jesus echoes similar depictions in St. Paul’s letters.  Cale also looks at the great ‘white throne judgment’.
