When the day’s guests had gone from the Adairs Summer House, Home Beautiful Editor-in-Chief Elle Lovelock stayed behind to record one more bed styling masterclass, just for you.

She starts with one of the questions she hears most about bed linen: does thread count really matter? Elle’s answer is a personal one. A sleep retreat, and time with a sleep psychologist, showed her how sensitive she is to her surroundings. Around the same time she swapped the sheets on her own bed and, for her, it “changed everything”.

From there it’s a practical guide to building a bed around the way you sleep. Elle shares the questions to ask before you buy and the fabric to try if you run hot. She talks through linen and the different cotton weaves, and how to get a plump, high-loft quilt with or without feathers.

Then comes the styling, including a bed cover look borrowed from the beds she grew up with and a pillow trick from magazine shoots. Elle also explains why the size of your room should decide how many cushions go on the bed.

This episode is presented in partnership with Adairs and was recorded at the Adairs Summer House at Villa Alezalia, in Bellevue Hill, Sydney, during the launch of the new Adairs summer collection.

Moments You'll Hear:

* Does thread count really matter, and what to ask yourself before you buy sheets

* The fabric Elle suggests for hot sleepers, and the one that feels like your favourite T-shirt

* Why linen sheets are a safe buy, trend or not

* How to get a plump, high-loft quilt if down and feather isn’t for you

* The bed cover look Elle grew up with, and a fresher take on the throw at the end of the bed

* A note for anyone who rests their head on the display pillows

* The magazine shoot trick for perfectly stacked (or standing) pillows

Does thread count really matter? It’s one of the bed linen questions Home Beautiful Editor-in-Chief Elle Lovelock is asked most, and her answer has more to do with how sheets feel, and how you sleep, than the number on the packet. In The Edit’s first Masterclass, filmed at the Adairs Summer House at Villa Alezalia, in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill, Elle explains how to choose sheets, quilts and blankets that suit you, then shares styling tricks borrowed from magazine shoots and from the beds she grew up with. Presented in partnership with Adairs.
