John is President and Board Chair of Friends of the Washington Statue, the Virginia-based nonprofit behind the first full restoration of the George Washington statue in London's Trafalgar Square. An architect and developer from McLean, Virginia, John launched the effort after spotting the familiar figure during a visit to London. He then rallied partners, including Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and British architect Norman Foster, to restore the bronze, which Virginia gave to the United Kingdom in 1921, and to give it a new pedestal. The statue was rededicated in June 2025, a symbol of the enduring "special relationship" between the two nations.
