A social media argument is believed to have led to a shooting of a car with four children inside in Sydney's South-West last night.

Five people were in the car with the youngest to be 12-years-old.

NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly told Jim Wilson the children and mother were lucky to be alive.
