This episode of the John Phillips Show is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the state of California's finances and the impact of taxes on its residents. Joining John Phillips and Randy Wang in the studio is Susan Shelley, a columnist for the Southern California News Group and host of the Howard Jarvis Radio Show. Together, they dive into the world of Proposition 43, a measure that aims to make it harder for local governments to raise taxes.

Proposition 43 is a crucial issue in California, where the cost of living is already sky-high and taxes are piling up. The speaker explains how the current system allows special interests to bypass the two-thirds vote requirement for tax increases, making it easier for them to pass measures that benefit their own interests. This can lead to devastating consequences, such as the recent Measure ER, which was passed with a simple majority despite its questionable intentions.

The conversation also touches on the importance of local government and the need for effective problem-solving. Councilman John Cruikshank from Rancho Palos Verdes shares his experiences with tackling issues in his city, where things actually function despite the challenges faced by neighboring cities like Los Angeles. Meanwhile, candidate Mike Netter discusses his passion for addressing environmental concerns, including the pollution in Imperial Beach, and the need for innovative solutions like Tesla power.

If you're concerned about the future of California and the impact of taxes on its residents, this episode is a must-listen.
