Perth Lynx recruit Lauren Scherf is refusing to fall into the trap of believing that Liz Cambage’s exclusion from the Australian Opals’ World Cup squad will make it easier for her to break into the team.

Scherf joined the Lynx in the off-season and was then selected for the Opals at the Asia Cup where she won a bronze medal. Australia named 24 players in the 2022 World Cup squad this week and the 196cm Scherf is among the players competing for a position.

But with Cambage removed from the Olympic team earlier this year, Scherf said she still had to get past the incumbents.
