Supreme Court Rules On Anti-Discrimination Protections

View descriptionShare

Today, Dom Giordano led off his show by discussing a Supreme Court ruling yesterday which rules that  federal anti-discrimination protections apply when companies fire people because they are gay or transgender. At issue in the dispute is Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which, among other things, bars discrimination "because of sex." The Supreme Court has applied that prohibition in several other contexts, but Monday marks the first time it has weighed in on whether the protections extend to gay and transgender people. The ruling came with conservative Judge Neil Gorsuch siding with progressive judges, leading to a 6-3 vote. Also, Dom discusses the shooting in Atlanta which saw a man asleep in a drive through steal an officer’s Taser, resulting in his death. (Photo by Getty Images)
