KEY TAKEAWAYS

Q.What are some of the things that have kept you and your programme relevant for 20 years?

A.One of the fun things is that we don’t know what is going to happen, you have to roll with the punches, you have to move with the times and our advice is market-led, we give advice tailored to the conditions at the time.

Q.How do you maintain the love for your profession?

A.That is easy, I have done it on television for 20 years but I have done it in real life for 26 years. It still gives me a real buzz to meet someone, sit them down and tell you of their dream property, to be in a position where you can influence and lead that and then to be able to find it, that in itself is a huge buzz and I will never get bored of that.

Q.What was your funniest moment whilst filming for Location, Location, Location?

A.The funniest moment I can recall has never been transmitted. It was whilst filming the pilot during a discussion about what the programme should be called. It was originally to be called “The great house hunt” however we soon changed it when we realised that any title with the word hunt, is likely to go wrong when said live.

Q.Many people are predicting a recession. What would you say to people trying to get into property at this time?

A.On the one hand, the availability of good credit has never been easier so why not fill your boots? However on the other hand, I do not feel that yields are that exciting at the moment. We have got a housing shortage, added with the societal changes, long term demand is only going to rise and therefore demand will increase. You have an increase of people who want to rent, but because of the tax changes in investors, that means less investor-owned properties and less for tenants to rent from.

Q.What is the best advice you have ever received?

A.My dad said to me that “an awful lot can go wrong in the world if you own the roof over your head” meaning that bad things may happen, but only to a certain degree if you own the roof over your head. Concentrate on that.

Q.What does the word disruptive mean to you?

A.I think it's about somebody who thinks about things in a different way. Someone with an independent mindset and is prepared to do something about it. See things in a different way, don’t follow the herd.
