Former NFL TE and current NFL analyst, Greg Olsen joins the show to talk about Michael Vick possibly coaching in college. And Dan addresses the comments from Washington Mystics owner Sheila Johnson criticizing Caitlin Clark’s Athlete of the Year award from TIME.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

Final Hour on this Tuesday down a Danet's seating off for today, but Fritzy doing double duty. Also, Marvin Paulie yours truly the back room guys as well. It's the Cup, make no mistake about it, Todd. It is the Cup.

It really is.

Yes, it is Bucks thunder tonight, It's the title game. It's the Cup, Todd. Todd just keeps walking around. He gets in here early in the morning. He just keeps going, it's the.

Cup because it's the Cup.

Bucks thunder tonight, ABC differ, That's that's that's football. The Cup coming up tonight. No bad ideas Tuesday. How to help the NBA. I don't want to say fix the NBA because you might say, well, what's wrong with it? Ratings are in ah, you know, not a sharp decline, but there's been a decline in the last ten years, and I think this year as well, something like twenty eight percent ratings decline on the mother Ship. And now you have the cop. Normally, the NBA season starts Christmas Day, and now the NFL kind of comes in and says, you know what, I think we're going to take Christmas as well. We'll share this with you. Used to be standalone for three games for the NBA. Now they don't even get that, yes, Marv.

And also for the halftime show for both of the games. One halftime performers Beyonce. The other halftime performers Marii here. They were like, so, just in case we're not beating you over the heads bad enough, it's good. They were like your husbands, your wives that don't like football, they're going to watch this.

That's a good point. Stat of the Day is always brought to you by Panini America, the official trading card, And so the program, we'll talk to Greg Olsen, NFL and Fox analysts. He'll stop by asking which franchise is in the worst shape, And you could throw the Bears in there, and you could throw the Raiders. After last night, the Bears four and ten, the Raiders are two and twelve, but the Falcons did stay alive. There's seven and seven and the Vikings now go to twelve and two. How threatening are the Vikings? Feels like we keep asking this week in and week out, and it seems to hinge on Sam Darnold's performance because you have the best receiver in the game in Justin Jefferson. You got a really good head coach who's gonna win Coach of the Year, Aaron Jones, you got Jordan Addison. You've got a very underrated defense. Brian Flores has done a great job as defensive coordinator. There feels like the Lions are vulnerable. And if you have home field advantage, if you're going to play the Packers, you know that'd be a big advantage for the Vikings there. But it feels like the Lions suddenly are vulnerable with all these injuries. The Vikings right there in front of us, we just refuse to acknowledge them. It's like if you're a teacher and you got the kid in the front of the class who's always waving his hand because he has the right answer, and the teacher sure acts like can't see him because he keeps answering every question. Now, granted that was never me. I was always in the bag, but it'd be like anybody you have done. They got twelve wins. I don't know how threatening they are on a scale of one to ten. Todd how threatening are the Vikings.

Seven and a half based on the fact that.

I think the Lions and Eagles are more dangerous as far as how deep they're gonna go.

Marvin one to ten eight, Paul.

Eight point two? Now what does the eight point two?

I don't know what that.

How about if you go over eight, you could see them in the super Bowl?

Oh oh oh?

Then seven point nine?

Okay, yeah, I don't see them in the super Bowl.

Yes, I'm gonna play a little game with here, bonus game do the Let's say the Rams made the playoffs and the Vikings made the playoffs.

Are they similar?

INDs? Do you think or belief faith?

Well, I got a quarterback who won a Super Bowl. I got a coach who won a Super Bowl. I got two really good wide receivers. No, granted, Minnesota's wide receivers equal.

I think you're fairly saying that you'd believe in the Rams a little bit.

I might.

The Rams have been outscored by twenty eight points on the season. The Vikings have outscored their opponents by one hundred and seven.

Yeah, I get it, I get it. But one game, I'm gonna go seven point eight and a half. I don't think they can get to this Super Bowl. I don't think so, yes, Marv.

Now, if they get to the divisional round, what decision do you make regarding Sam Donald, Like, say, if they lose to the Eagles by six points?

Okay, if they win a playoff game? Is Sam Darnald back? Doesn't he have to be back? And do you franchise him or do you give him a three year deal three years for one twenty three for one twenty sixty million guaranteed? How's that?

I'll take it?

Yeah, oh you will? Okay, yes, yes, Tod.

What if the.

Vikings do win one playoff game but had nothing to do with Donald?

He had a bad game, they got to pick six.

They recovered a fumble in the ensine, there was a safety, had nothing to do with it.

So kind of like Kirk d Cousins last night fifteen to nine, and uh, he's got one touchdown pass, nine picks in five game, last five games. But it certainly sounds like his coach is going to stay with him. Here is Raheem Morris, the Falcons coach? After the win? Can you assess Kirk's play tonight and where you're at?

I know you guys got the dub, but in terms of him as the starting quarterback move forward.

He's got to play better, and you know you got to go back. You gotta be to look at everything. But you know he wants to play better. He's got to play better. We got to find a way to get him to play better. And obviously we'll get to work tomorrow. And that's a part of our process, right. You go, you look at the tape, you review with the people that needs to be reviewed with. You know, we get all the cording intors the room, we'll talk with everybody, and we got to play better at the quarterback position.

Okay, that's about twenty two seconds of nothing. It feels like he's been saying that every week for the last like five weeks. Bill Belichick in North Carolina has a one million dollar buyout if he would happen to leave North Carolina. That should be mentioned. Should remind people of that because it's only a million dollars. If you're all in on North Carolina, it shouldn't be a million dollar buyout. Here is Bill Belichick being asked about NFL opportunities.

And do you feel as though you might have had and would have had opportunities in the NFL.

You know, that's a hard question to answer, Jim, because ultimately those aren't my decisions. But sure, I think there would have been some interest, But uh, in the end, really it's not about what there could have been or would have been. It was about the opportunity at North Carolina, and I just think this program is at the right spot now to take off. Chancellor Roberts and the board of Trustees have made a strong commitment toward football at North Carolina, and I'm here with Mike Micha Lombardi as our general manager to uh, you know, do all we can to accelerate that process. And we're we're gonna we're gonna get the team, you know, make it as competitive as can as soon as we can.

That's a Jim Gray asking the question on the Lectico podcast, coach, why is your buyout only a million dollars? You see this new thing that's happening in college football where if you're a coach and you have a bad season, they're kind of asking you to give money back. This happened with Mike Gundhy at Oklahoma State. He agreed to redou his compensation to keep his job. They went three to nine, so he is going to give up millions of dollars to be redistributed throughout the school too athletes. According to multiple reports, Brian Kelly at LSU, they didn't make the playoffs, and he said that he would match the fans donation to the NIL collective at LSU up to a million dollars. Mike Norval, the Florida State head coach, four point five million dollar contribution. This comes off as a penalty for being bad, maybe keeping your job. So the college sports pay for play revolution has entered new terrain here. According to USA Today, the Norvil is the third known coach to underperform this season and will bankroll the operation. So giving back to the community here. So that's the new thing going on in college football.

Yes, Paul, Remember in the old days, a coach would have an off year and they say, I'm not going to take a salary this year. Now it's out of your hands.

You're going to give it up.

Now you take my salary. Yeah. James Franklin, Penn State's head coach, who is going to lose his backup quarterback before their game with SMU, reportedly had this to say about the transfer portal. At this time of the year, we got.

Problems in college football, and I can give you my word. Bo Prabula did not want to leave our program, and he did not want to leave our program until the end of the season. But the way the portal is and the timing of it, he felt like he was put in a no win situation.

And I agree with him. I don't think.

It's in the best interest of the student athlete. I don't think it's in the best in of college football. But I think that's our challenge right now, right who is really running college football and making the best decisions for the student athletes and for our sport as a whole.

Okay, and that's James Franklin, Penn State. Let me just have a small suggestion here. Let's say I get the commissioners for the conferences and maybe I get them together, and I say, hey, why don't we talk about transfer portal or maybe on a zoom call, like something crazy, like a zoom call. We get everybody together, guys, we have to solve this. Let's do it collectively. Get as many commissioners as possible, because throughout college football, everybody's affected by this. If somebody leaves, then somebody goes, and then somebody leaves that place to go. You know, it's like when a coach gets hired someplace, somebody takes his place, somebody takes his place. It's a domino effect. How about we just do them. How about we talk about all of these issues that everybody keeps saying, we got a problem here, Lane Kiffin, we got a problem with it. Yes you do. Yeah, you got a few problems here. How about you get together. You don't need the NCAA. Let's get together, have a consensus. Maybe we have one rule for everybody.

How about that.

But you've got semesters ending and semesters starting. That's the tricky part of all of this. Kids are going to want to go and transfer and go to a school that's getting ready to start this semester. These coaches at that school taking your player want them to join their program immediately. They don't want to run the risk you get injured in a bowl game.

Yes, Mark, classes are really getting in the way of our college football.

No, Hey, I got an idea. Okay, what is it? How about no classes for our football players that'll solvent run.

Some team's already had on that a decade ago.

That'd be great if you had some coach Kate. Wait, you guys, make them go to class. We don't squeeze me. Stat of the Day brought to you by Pennini America, the official trading cards of the program. Poll question the results from the first two hours Todd.

Which NFL franchise feels like it's in the worst shape twenty seven and a half percent Cleveland Brown, Oh, twenty four percent, Giants, twelve and a half percent Raiders, and then below that becomes Bears, Titans, Other Jags, Panthers.

We started the show, I got in my soapbox. We were talking about, you know, taking a chance as a commissioner, taking a chance. We've seen that in the NFL. They don't it doesn't matter. But with baseball, we saw Rob Manfred take some chances, and I think baseball had a wonderful year. Ratings were up, certainly in the postseason. The NBA ratings have been on a steady decline, not crazy easy numbers, but on a decline. And I said, there's no bad solutions. Suggestions here for the commissioner. H Marshall in Charlotte Marshall, what's your plan? The Marshall plan?

Hey, guys, thanks for calling me back nine a squishy two thirty. My proposition you start the season on Christmas. You have each team play their own conference three times and the other conference too, for a total of seventy two games. You see the playoffs one to sixteen, regardless of the conference, and you start him in June, end of in August.

Okay, all right, list again. Now, Todd suggested, if you miss a three pointer, you take three points away from that team.

How exciting. It's ninety four to ninety one with a minute and a half left and you shoot at three and you miss instead of going up to six total.

Hold on here, what about the Bulls and the Hornets last week? So they missed seventy five to three pointers. Is it going to be a negative?

Absolutely, you have negative twenty three. Work your way up from the negative. It doesn't just a stop in zero.

Okay, there were seventy five missed threes.

Yes, that's what you gett You know, if you do like a scorecard, each player, the coach goes a Steph Curry, he's allowed ten three pointers this game. A Draymond Green he's allowed three. You're allowed to shoot that many three pointers and then that's it.

Blake in South Carolina. I Blake, Hey, what's happening?

Dan?

Help?

So?

I was thinking, you know, you want to talk about positionless basketball. I don't know if this really solves that, but just like you got to check in. You know, certain plays down by the goal lineer wide receivers are who catches the ball and who can go past the line. There's only two or three designated people who when they shoot three, that counts as a three, and then everyone else you can shoot from wherever you want. But they're doing with a count as threes from behind the line and then inside two minutes before halftime or two minutes put the end of the game than anyone who shoots behind the york it's a three again. But if you know there's two people who got shooting reef and you got to guard them, maybe that could change it all.

Right, So a DS instead of a DH designated shooter.

I like that.

Michael and Nanashville, Hey, Mike, Hey, ADP, big fan.

Man just kind of spit ball with what that guy said. He had kind of my exact idea for that. But you know, maybe possibly too, you know, if the big men are gonna get upset about not being able to shoot threes. Maybe have dunks become three points, or maybe have all ups become three points. Maybe you can incorporate something like that to where the big men can get in, well, can get more points as well, just so that they're not left out of it. And honestly, the probably would bring the big man back into the game. And uh, I think it would be a little good thing.

I say, well, these these big men love shooting threes. They love it. It's no fun down on the low post. They want to they want to handle the ball, they want to shoot threes.

Yeah, Marv, how about only players six six and above can shoot threes? They can't shoot threes? Oh, can't shoot They can't shoot. If you're say, if you're six seven and.

Above, Wow, that's that's height ism.

That is so that means Klay Thompson can't shoot threes.

Yeah, well, I don't know. He might be right there the DS. Yeah, yes, yes, you could do a.

Challenge where they measure the player on the spot, just to make sure that the proper height to that.

Like there's a ride at Disney World. You must be taller than this to shoot three, or shorter than this to shoot threes, Yes, Marv.

And you know what, now, there won't be any more program height. It'll be your real height. So Michael Beasley, you're not six ten at Kansas State, then six seven once it's time to really measure you.

Let me take a break. Greg Olsen will join us coming out. How threatening are the Vikings? Would he bench Kirk Cousins? What team is the most hopeless team in the NFL? We're back after this. He's Greg Olsen, NFL on Fox Analyst and he called the Cowboys Panthers on Sunday. He'll be doing the Ravens Texans Christmas Day that's on Netflix with our good buddy Iron Eagle kick off at four point thirty Easter Beyonce. By the way, halftime performer Greg joins us, Now, do you get to meet Beyonce before after during?

You know, I think that's a great question.

I actually last time I was involved in a game that Beyonce was also involved in, I lost the Super Bowl in Santa Clara who was the halftime show, So I had mixed feelings. Hopefully, hopefully the result goes better for me this time.

What's it like when the there's somebody performing that a lot of people would probably want to go out of the locker room. Did anybody sneak out to see Beyonce perform?

Not to not to my knowledge, but you know a couple of years ago, you know when I called the Super Bowl in Arizona, Rihanna was the halftime show. So, I mean the excitement of the crew. So we get ready to go to halftime in all week, We're like, you know, it'll be cool, We'll get to watch Rihanna.

Got great.

I mean, we've got the best seat in the house, fifty yard line up in the box. And then like the second to last player the last series of the second quarter, Mahomes gets rolled up on, he gets his ankle rolled up on, he gets limped in. So the whole halftime now, instead of being able to sit down, catch our breath watch Rihanna for five minutes, we had to scramble and do the whole Oh my gosh, could you imagine if Pat Mahomes doesn't come out for the second half of the Super Bowl, and thankfully he did so. I'm excited to watch Beyonce. I love Beyonce. I think it's going to be fun. I think the entire experience is going to be super cool for everyone that's participating. And I know our crew, Noah and I are super super pumped to get together, work together for the first time and kind of see what happens.

Can you see Mahomes modifying his style? I mean, we've had the ankle injury every year, almost had a severe knee injury as well. But he's not a runner. I call him an opportunist. But can you see him maybe modifying.

I just think at this stage in your career, it is so hard to just change your play style. I think you know so much of what makes Mahomes so special and so such a generational player is his ability to play off script.

Right.

It's almost the entire underlying of their entire offense is his ability to extend plays, move in the pocket, remain a passer. To your point, he's not necessarily a scrambler in the sense of I'm looking to run with the ball to convert. He's he will run, he will pick up first downs, but it's his ability to stress the coverage because he just holds onto the ball so long without getting sacked. And I think that's kind of the balance that every team in the league's trying to saying. It's one thing to hold the ball, it's one thing to stress the coverage. But as you're stressing coverage, you're also stressing protection. So it's finding that balance. That's what makes Mahomes and Josh Allen and now Jayden Daniels and you know, Lamar and just some of those guys are just such a handful because even when you defend everything, you still haven't defended everything.

So I just don't know if there is any going back. Injury is part of it.

Hopefully he dodged a bullet here with the ankle, and you know, obviously his style of play is just incredible.

We have a poll question, Fritzi, would you give Greg the wording on the pole question?

Which team right now in the NFL is in the worst shape now and going forward in the near future. And we had the Bears, Jaguars, Browns, Texans, Giants. Where are you on that?

Yeah, So I think it's combination of, you know, what does the current winning culture look like in the building they doing it multiple years in with the same coaching staff in regime, and then where are they in terms of finding their future quarterback?

Right?

So those are all the things you.

Give first year coaches, you give first year rookie quarterbacks, Like I see what's going on in Chicago. I think that's an example of Obviously, the season's gone off the rails. Ever since they lost on the Hail Mary to Washington. It feels like things have fallen apart. I think they've lost eight in a row or whatever. But they've got Caleb Williams, They're going to get a new coach in there and a new staff. They've got you know, good pieces in place. So that should be a pretty you know, that should be a pretty popular destination, I would imagine in this hiring cycle. But then you look at the Giants and I like Dable, you know, I thought he did an unbelievable job his first year making the playoffs, go on the road to Minnesota. I called that game and they come out with the with the upset victory. Since then, it's been a bit of a disaster. And you know, but then you look there and you say, not only have they had a culture of losing. They let Daniel Jones go, they don't have their future quarterback on the roster, and now they've got to start all over again. So, you know, as much as I hate to say this because I just love Dable, I love who he is as a guy, as a coach, I think they're pretty far removed from having an ability to win. They're in a really tough division. It doesn't like Philly's going anywhere. Dallas will bounce back. Washington's obviously the prized team in the league. They've got a tough division, don't have their quarterback, and they're you know, losing at historic great.

But other than that, other than that, things are good. How much coaching is done on an NFL level from the head coach as opposed to coaching in college, I.

Think it's different in every franchise model. So I think you look at the coaches that are also the play callers. You know, you look at a team that's having a ton of success. We saw him last night, you know, on National TV on Monday night play, you know, Chicago with with Kevin O'Connell and the Vikings. So you look at what Kevin O'Connell is doing on a week by week basis. Aside from delivering messaging and addressing the team and putting together the plan and keeping the locker room and culture and vision and tech act, he's also in the in the weeds of the game plan and he's you know, on the sideline. He's charting plays and he's formulating his play call and getting his opening script done. So he's part offensive coordinator, part head coach. That's very challenging, right. That's Andy Reid, That's Kevin O'Connell, that's Sean McVay, Kyle shannan, you know of those sense. So those guys are in the weeds coaching on a day to day basis. X's and o's in plays. Then there's other coaches where their impact on the team is just as great. They're just not actually the ones on game day calling the plays directly, you know, to the to the quarterbacks headset. But you know, you look at Dan Campbell, he's not necessarily calling the plays. He's got two very good defensive offensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, maybe two guys that are gonna get head coaching opportunities this cycle. But he's involved in every single thing they do. Talk to him during the week. We can ask him about the offensive plan, the defensive plan. He knows both sides of the ball, like he's actually gonna call the plays on Sunday. And then of course he handles all the game management and the motivation and the speeches before and after the game. So I think every coach is a little bit different as far as what their role is. But the best coaches are the best communicators. The x's and o's and the plays. That's stuff Wall take care of itself. The best guys are the best communicators. They deliver the message, they put out fires, and they galvanize a group. And you know, you look around to the best teams in the league, it's not a coincidence that they also have some of the best leaders, some of the best messagers. It's a huge part of NFL football.

I'm talking to Greg Olsen NFL and Fox. He'll be on the call on Christmas Day. The game is on Netflix. It'll be the Ravens and Texans kickoff at four thirty Eastern. Speaking of these two teams, which one's more threatening come playoff time, Ravens or Texans.

It's a good question.

I've kind of started diving into them this week just in preparation for next week's game. And you know, I mean you start with Baltimore obviously, you know we've seen them do it MVP Lamar, they add Derek Henry. I mean, that is a that is a scary group. And I would say when you've played well, you've come out of that game saying that's the best team in the league. And then there's been some other games where you go, okay, like they're good, but can they just put the you know, pedal down and just dominate somebody. And I think their defense is getting a lot better. I think their defense is much improved. Earlier in the year, they had some ups and downs. They've started to string together some some good performances here of late. So I think as long as you have Lamar, I think Harball is a fantastic coach. I think they had a culture initation of winning, which again to our early to your earlier question, is so important in this league. Guys expect to win, they expect to show up and have success, and that's very powerful. And then with Houston, I think what's what's so unique about them is last year all that talks about CJ. Stroud and he busts them onto the seam as a rookie and he was incredible. They win the division in him and Demico Ryan's first year and everyone saying, oh my god, he's incredible. This year, it's been the defense. I mean that defense is young, they are good. They can rush the pass. Daniel Hunter, will Anderson. They've got two really good young corners Derek Stingley might be the best in the league right now, and then Lassiter, who's the young rookie on the other side. So they're young, they're talented, they can rush the passer, they can dominate at the line of scrimmage, and then the offense is opportunistic. It's you know, last week they force four turnovers against the Dolphins and they score seventeen to their twenty off of turnovers. So they're they're making the plays they have to. They're not as dominant offensively as they were, even though I love their skill positions. Their offensive line is the question mark. They struggle up front, they struggle to pass protect, and then everything kind of goes from there. So I think it's a fascinating matchup on paper to me at this stage, it's Lamar and Thatt Ravens offense against this Houston defense led by Timiko Rans, Like that is the matchup, and I think it's gonna be awesome.

Level of concern for the Lions is what.

Gosh, you know, you just you can't help but just feel for him, because four or five weeks ago they were the best team in football. And it wasn't just because of the offense. It wasn't just because you know, golf's playing at MVP level and the offensive line has been good there for a long time. And of course Ben Johnson's the bell of the ball, He's the coach everyone's looking for. And the skill players unlimited. And then on the defensive side, they were so good. Obviously with you know, losing Hutchinson and then losing Angeloni. Aaron Glenn's held it together as long as he could. But you go back to like the top two of their Robster death early in the season, I don't think anyone is left. And then of course the other night in that awesome game, you know, they lose Alee McNeil, they lose Carlton Davis, they lose more starters, and then now the words coming out with Montgomery the back alongside Gibbs that he might be now out for the year. So it's just it's unfortunate that this is the way it happens, but we see it all the time. There is an element of luck to NFL runs. There is an element to the teams that stay healthy the longest make their run. But listen, if we've seen anything about Dan Campbell, he's going to alter his approach. He's going to get super aggressive, he's not going to apologize for it, and they're going to have to try to make up for what they're missing on defense.

That they are going to have to carry the load.

Hence why he on side kicked with ten plus minutes to go in the game like that was not just an arbitrary gut reaction. He understands the efficiencies of the defense. They can't stop anybody, So why is he going to let teams go eighty five yards for a touchdown when just let him go the short way and get the ball back.

I mentioned Josh Allen was like a better throwing Cam Newton when Cam won the mvpick. That's fair to either of these, both of these guys with that comparison.

Yeah, I think it's very fair. I think.

You know, when you look at a lot of the things that Josh is doing, it's a very similar play style to how Cam played. I would argue that Cam was maybe used more consistently, especially those first five years or so, in the run game, and then it was quarterback power, or it was quarterback run, it was downhill like they use Josh. I think really smart, like the way they activate him as a design quarterback runner. It's red zone, it's short yardage, it's perimeter runs, it's spread QB draw. They do a great job saying, Okay, we're not going to just run him into the ground, but when we need them, ball is going to be in his hands because he's the best player in the league. So I think in that regard, they're both physical. They're strong, they can outrun you, they're powerful, they can protect themselves. I think that's an element that people are starting to see with. Yes, the quarterback run is such a weapon, and when you have a guy like Josh Allen and you have a guy like he's silly not to use it. But what guys are finding is, over the course of a season, are you able to sustain it? Do you have a guy that is built to take those hits and can be a runner. If your quarterback every time he's in space to get hit just gives him stuff up and he's not willing to run through contact, you lose the advantage of running your quarterback. And that's where Cam was so unique, is when he got in the open field, they didn't want to tackle him, can't they Bigger Cam was at more risks standing in the pocket, getting to get injured, getting guys at his legs blindside than when he was actually on the offensive as a runner. And I would say the same thing about Josh, and then obviously his Josh's ability to throw off platform and throw from outside the pocket, and some of those throws he made the other night on the run against Detroit were just I mean, they were just out of this world. So I think he's the MVP. I think I can't. I mean, I can make an argument for Glamar, I can make an argument for Golf. I just what Buffalo's doing right now. You could argue they're the best team in the league right now, and he's the best player.

I was amazed when I first met Cam how big he is, Like when you see quarterbacks, like, he's probably bigger than you.

Oh yeah, Cam's eye to eye with me.

And when we were both playing, we were probably within I don't know, anywhere between five to ten pounds of each other.

In any direction at any kind. Yeah.

Cam could have played defensive end, Cam could have played tight end. Cam could have played outside edge rusher. When you talk about just unique physical specimens that have come through the NFL, Cam Newton's at the top of the list. The first time I ever met him in training camp, I had just gotten traded to Carolina from Chicago, and I walked into the training room and of course watched him at Auburn and watched him win the national Championship and the Heisman and all that. And then but again to your point, when you see him in person, you don't realize just how imposing he really is.

And you know, when I saw him, I was like whoa.

And then obviously he got out in the field and the way he's able to run, and he was long legged but powerful and obviously could just rip it. He was a unique physical product. But yeah, just his sheer size was very unique.

Thanks for joining us. Happy holidays to you, and our best to Iron Eagle on Christmas Day on Netflix. It'll be the Ravens and the Texans, four thirty eastern.

Thank you, Greg, all right, appreciate it. It was good to see it.

Well, take a break. Last call for phone calls.

Right after this, be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern, six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.

We have football tonight. We have a Bowl game tonight. I don't know the name of the bowl, but I know who's playing.

Dan.

It's one of the great traditions in Bowl history. It's the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Ball. Remember we used to hang out at your house and watch that.

Yeah, Oh, brings back great memory times with the kids. And then they pour hot coffee over the coach. Who wins hot Coffee?

I like it?

Memphis at ten and two versus West Virginia at six and six and the Scooter's Coffee Frisco.

Ball Memphis favored by five? Yeah, favored by five? Okay, who wins the Cup? Todd, you have been talking about the Cup constantly. By the way, Charles Barkley will join us on the program tomorrow.

All right.

To go with Duck in the Bucks.

Then we're gonna win this one. We're gonna bring it home to Milwaukee. They deserve it.

Marvin, who wins the cup?

Because it's the Cup in the Bucks? I have championship experience. I'm going Milwaukee, Okay, Paul who wins the Cup?

This is tough because it means so much to so many, especially me.

I'm gonna go with the Bucks. I'm going with my Thunder. I'm going with my Thunder.

Will you attend the parade?

Uh h, zoom wise? Zoom wise? I will Was it the new WNBA commissioner who suggested that the entire WNBA should have been on the cover of the Time magazine honor for Caitlin Clark?

Marvin it was the owner of the Washington Mystics.

Oh okay, So I don't know who this person is, but felt like, if you're going to celebrate the WNBA, why not celebrate it with everybody in the WNBA or some of the bigger stars and Caitlin Clark. But if you're Times person of the Year, it's not the people of the Year. It was a person of the Year. Can't we just acknowledge Caitlin Clark changed the w NBA. That's it. It's okay. You want to throw in Angel Reese, you want to throw the memory of Cheryl Miller or of Cynthia Cooper like it's a win. We gotta god, just this is a unique moment. Caitlin Clark did for the WNBA what Wayne Gretzky did for the NHL when he went to the La Kings. It's okay, take a victory lap. You don't have to go, oh my god, we gotta you got these people are mad, or this person's mad, or this group is mad. It's a Caitlyn Clark changed the WNBA. It's okay. It's okay to say that. You're not diminishing what the founding, you know, fathers of the WNBA did.

You're not.

Just she's the time person of the year. That's all the league one. But every time we think there's a win, there's somebody who brings something else up, and it's unfortunate. It's like when Tiger joined the PGA Tour, did we say, oh, times, you know, man of the year. Well, you can't have Tiger on there. We have to have everybody on there. Enjoy the coverage. It's a win. Stop making excuses for Caitlin Clark's greatness and what she did. She did something different than anybody else in the WNBA, the history of the WNBA with the way she plays, Oh my god.

Yes, Marv and I always go back to Pauli's article in GQ. There's a different between great players and phenomenons. No one ever said Caitlin Clark wasn't like, no one ever said there weren't ever great players before Caitlyn Clark. There was never phenomenons. Not in my lifetime with women's basketball. And I went to Yukon, so I've seen plenty of great players, but nobody's ever moved the needle in my lifetime like this.

Yes, that's how this is, But.

I don't know. You keep chipping away at it, and it shouldn't be. You should reinforce what you've built. You're building around it new franchises. That's because of her, Just what Gretzky did hockey in the South. I just I hate I hate to see the WNBA cannibalize itself this way. Yes, Paul the.

Washington mystics with the owner that was upset. She had the biggest crowd in the history of her franchise or any franchise at twenty one thousand last year for a home game. Yeah, I just against the fever.

Yeah I don't. There's been a lot of great players in the day NBA, a lot of great players.

This is different.

We're celebrating this year. It was different. Has nothing to do with the past. It's just right now in front of us. If we celebrate show Hey, o, Tani, are we doing you know something to the founding fathers and Hank Aaron and Willie Mays and Pete Rose. No, it's right now, it's right in front of us. It's in the moment. Celebrate it. Damn. It just drives me crazy that we keep you know, it's black, it's white, it's the new, it's the old, it's the she brought eyeballs. That's all. You're flying charter jets.

Now.

Now, let's see how you build on this when when Juju comes in, when Page Becker's comes in, h Hidalgo comes in, like you got a chance, stop bickering with each other. Damn drives me crazy. And she doesn't have to apologize for anything, and she shouldn't. You just played and look I was critical and said she didn't deserve to be on the Olympic team. She said, yes, that's true. Oh you got to have her on. We need the PR. I don't want to be on a team for the PR. I want to be on the team because I earned it, and she knows she didn't. That's the respect she's showing the other players in the league. She admitted that, I just want them to get build on this momentum. You got something, there's a great product. Now you have people watching, people are opining on the WNBA that never happened before. You're fighting against yourself. That's the problem.

Yes, Ma, Yes, we've never seen any coverage we talked about the WNBA or we talked about Kaitlin Clark last year. All the time it was Otani Lebron who at NFL Caitlin Clark? And now the well what about? Oh it's a lot of what about?

Isn't I know?

Like, can't we just be grateful that she's bringing so many eyeballs to the sport that normally they weren't watching this No matter how great a player, Kelsey Plump Sabrina, I ask you, Brianna Stewart, all great players but they weren't doing this.

No, No, Kelsey Plum scored thirty five hundred points in her career, but she wasn't the attraction here. Sabrina Iyronescue was a triple doubled organ. She's not the player that Caitlin Clark is. She got people. Now we see these other players. It's a benefit. Now people are seeing ground As Stewart's one of the greatest players of all time, maybe the most decorated player of all time. If you look at college in the players, it's an advantage. It's a plus, Paul, to stay in sports history.

You'll like this one. Dan nineteen ninety one, the worst blowout in NBA history happened. Cleveland beat Miami one forty eight to eighty.

Oh brutal. That's it. I just let that stand. Okay, one forty eight to eighty. Can you get the box score for me?

All over it?

Thank you?

Let's go round the room. What we learn in the program? Todd, I'm gonna start with you. What'd you learn today?

Greg also hopes to see Beyonce perform at halftime Christmas Day when he calls Ravens Texans. But the last time he saw a perform. His Panthers lost Super Bowl fifty for the Broncos.

Marvin, would you learn today your siblings ratted you up? I'll go in to church.

They did, and I hold a grudge. Paul, would you learn?

Sacramento State Football?
