Dan reacts to the news of the day: the NCAA Tournament and Kim Mulkey's blustering threats against the Washington Post. Dan and the crew also react to the NFL banning swivel hip-drop tackles and the language used to describe the newest penalty in the NFL rulebook.

You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio Final Hour on this Monday Best and Worst of the weekend.

What you saw that you liked? You didn't like?

Our bracket challenge Right now, Fritzie is leading the dan Ettes, Marvin is in last place, Seaton and I are in third to last place and proudly in that position. Once again, Todd proving you don't have to know anything about college basketball and you can do well in the bracket loser. Thank you. Yes, I am absolutely celebrity Bracket Challenge. You can watch it, you can follow along at Fox Sports Radio dot com. All Right, you got a lot of blue bloods here. We're looking for a Cinderella story and I guess the best we can do is NC State at eleven. And I'm fine with that. I think you know, we don't have a George Mason. Uh you know, Butler Like, it's okay. You just got good basketball teams here.

Yeah.

See, the further in the tournament that eleven seed advances, the more Cinderella e they've become. Yeah, right now, it doesn't feel like it, but all of a sudden, you know, Elite A Final four, It's like, dang in eleven seed.

Well we need one now, yeah, yeah, before you would just have one. Now we're kind of like somebody's got to be Cinderella here, and it looks like it's going to be NC State.

Yes, Marvin, wasn't the eighty three NC State team a Cinderella story?

Yeah?

Okay, Well they took down one of the most talented teams to ever play college basketball, one of the most talented teams to ever play college basketball, and so yeah, that was a huge, huge surprise. But that was just back then, no shot clock and Jimmy v out coach Guy Lewis. Because when you have Clyde the Glide and you have a keem Elijahuan, NC State had Derek Whittingham, is that right? Wittenberg, Sidney Lowe, thorough Bailey, COZL McQueen low Charles Terry Gannon. Those aren't NBA player. Thorough Bailey played a long time in the NBA. But you have talking two of the top fifty players of all time in the NBA and Clyde the Glide and a chem Elaijuan. But they took the air out of it, and you know, those teams aren't used to playing close games. And then you make them play a close game. And that's why I always bring up UNLV When they were running through college basketball, they weren't playing close games, and I always wondered if they got into a close game, were they able to close somebody out? And that tripped them up when they played Duke when it was a close game and they had a hard time getting a final shot off against Duke. But you get these teams that just blow through everybody. The true test is if you get that close game, do you know what to do?

Yeah, Marph is Houston in a conversation for a best team never to win the time, I think it went to maybe three final fours in that stretch, and they just could have pulled it off.

Yeah, and they've been Were they the number one seed last year in the tournament? They might have been, but they've been a number one seed a couple of times with Kelvin Samson, Yeah, they could be up there. I mean Gonzaga, as I pointed out, Gonzaga has and Purdue have more wins of any team in the tournament history who have never won an NCAA tournament. Purdue has played for a national title and Gonzaga has played for a national title. Yes, Paulin.

If you go back, if you remember, remember ten, twenty eleven, Butler made the final game two years in a row. That felt like a Cinderella crashing the party, especially twenty ten because they played Duke who had thirty four wins. But Butler came into that tournament as a five seed. But they felt like a Cinderella in the final game. And then they have a half court shop. I Hateward to win it. Yeah, it would have been, oh my gosh, you talk about it's a history that almost haven't Then they win the title game next year against you kind of think, but they didn't. They felt at the time like a huge, huge Cinderella.

Uh.

Tom Pelsero, NFL Network says, no surprise here. Despite the NFL Players Association objections, the NFL made it clear it wanted what it calls the swivel hip drop tackle out of the game. And now it is expect more fines than flags. As the NFL and coaches worked to remove this technique. I mean, we got to get rid of the swivel hip drop. I mean, come on, guys, I really didn't know it was that big of an issue. Then it became a little bit larger issue with injuries and then all of a sudden it's gone for the game. Also, they're going to vote on the kickoff modification and that is expected to pass as well. All right, eight seven to seven three DP shows we always do every Monday, Best and Worst of the weekend, Which you saw that you liked you didn't like? Tyler standing by to take your phone calls. If you're watching on ecock, thank you downloading the app and our radio affiliates around the country over four hundred. We know that shohe Otani is expected to meet with the media sometime this morning. We don't know if it'll be this hour, the final hour that we're on. Here's Dave Roberts, the Dodger manager, with that topic.

Joey said, if.

He's going to address this tomorrow, do you think that might help calm things down at all?

Is?

Do you have a reaction to that.

I think it's I think it's good.

I think it's the right thing to do, and I'm happy he's going to, you know, speak.

And speak to what he knows and give his thoughts on the whole situation.

I think it'll give.

Us all a little bit more play Okay, got to keep it vague. I don't know if he's going to take questions or not. That would be my big curiosity here. And how long do they make him available, because I didn't know at some point that we thought it was a criminal investigation. Baseball's investigating it now. I don't know if if there's a criminal investigation, then you could say, Look, I can't say anything there's a criminal investigation.

I don't know if there still is, but I thought that there was.

The FBI was involved and or somebody's involved in the investigation. I mean, that's how it came to light that they have this illegal bookmaker. But I don't know how much Otani's going to say, and I wonder if anybody is well, I'm sure they are, and maybe any inroads to follow up with the interpreter here to maybe you wait until Otani says what he says, and then maybe maybe the interpreter will want to give some more clarity to this. But I'm going to guess that it's best that he disappeared. All right, Well, final hour poll question Seaton.

Right now, Dan, we got up there one that's been working for a little while from Twitter. The poll today should be. Which role will Dan Patrick play in Happy Gilmore Molto another golfer, sports brought caster, a gold Jacket member or other. Right now, fifty four percent of the vote have you playing a gold Jacket member. Also, people think that you should play another character in the movie, but somebody should play you in the movie is also very popular. Okay, you play somebody else, but somebody else plays you.

Yeah.

I don't want to play myself. I've done that, and I.

Don't know if I'm in the position to ask Sandler and I play somebody. I think I'm just going to be myself and be a golf announcer. Probably odds to win March Madness. These are updated by DraftKings. It's Connecticut plus two ten, then at Houston plus five hundred, then it's Purdue, Arizona, UNC, and Tennessee. All right, based off what we know now after this week and would you still consider expanding the tournament? Is there reason to expand it after what we saw this weekend? And I don't have an a like I don't want to expand it. But if somebody says, oh, yeah, we have to because we have to get this or more of this in there, Yeah, seeden.

But then doesn't that make the more Cinderella type stories the bar for that even lower. Now you need a nineteen seed to make it instead of a fifteen.

Because we don't have a Cinderella story this year, right, And that if we expand it, then those teams aren't as good as the teams that are in it. Therefore it's even more of a long shot, is what you're saying. Yes, yeah, okay, yeah, I don't I'm not big on the expansion. It's going to happen, you know. The question is just when it's going to happen and how many schools. But right now, Connecticut is your big favorite. I'm looking at the betting lines. Connecticut's giving ten to San Diego State, that's the big number. Arizona giving Clemson seven, everything else is kind of tight. Marquette is giving NC State six and a half. Houston is a four point favorite against Duke. Tennessee is slight favorite against Creighton. Iowa State is a slight favorite against Illinois, and North Carolina giving four to Alabama. All right, they're expecting some fun times here, maybe some upsets here, some really really close games. And in case you're wondering Caitlin Clark and Iowa giving West Virginia sixteen, Connecticut giving Syracuse twenty, and USC is giving Kansas ten and a half once again.

When you see.

Juju Watkins, then you'll understand why I think I've brought her up the last three months. She has a whole lot of fun and she's different now. Her game is a pearl Washington and she is handle finish fun and she's only a freshman. See, I would love if Iowa played USC and if LSU played South Carolina. That would be fun. You can't go wrong there, South Carolina trying to go wire to wire here LSU with Kim Mulkey. I guess there is a story coming out in the Washington Post. I don't know when, but she called it a hit piece and said that this writer has been working on this for two years, trying to get an interview. And then what happens when you put an article or a story to bed. You always call somebody if they want to give you something else, or hey, you know you're going to be featured in here, and you give them that opportunity to respond to you. And the writer did that, and then Kim Moulkey had a press conference where she's saying, you know, he wants me to respond to this and gives me two days notice, while also saying he's been working on this, trying to contact her for two years.

So which is it now? Like then it.

Feels like, all right, story might have come out and then maybe we'd be interested in it, you know, the casual basketball fan. Now it feels like whoa, what's in here?

I mean?

And then she went on Bob Knight here and saying that she's hired a defamation lawyer. And you know, the Washington Post is not worried about your defamation lawyer. I don't think since they took down a president, I don't think they would be concerned about that. That Kim Maulky is getting out in front of it, or at least trying to and saying that she's hired a lawyer, going to go after this writer who is a well respected writer. And don't know what the angle is, but certainly feels like there's a lot more to this.

Yes, Marv, does that put even more eyeballs on a women's tournament? Just from a general sports not even a general fan point of view?

Maybe I think if you knew what the story was, then you would tune in if LSU was still playing, and then you go, oh, that's the coach that they said that about. Right now, it's like, we don't even know what story is. You're not going to tune in and go, oh, they're writing a story about her. But she's front and center, which she normally is, and trying to get out in front of this. But I don't know if she's doing a great job. You're not scaring the writer. They're putting the article out, and the damage will be done if you put it out, even if you're going after the Washington Post. But I'm guessing that this journalist is going to be pretty buttoned up if you're going to go into battle against Kim Maulkey and LSU or what happened at Baylor or whatever else is in the closet there.

Yeah, Paul, I.

Would suggest if you're the Washington Post, maybe don't put this one behind a paywall. Let's let everyone see it. They do that with these papers. Sometimes you don't see it. Yeah, let this one breathe.

But it feels like she's she's focused on that instead of coaching in the tournament, that she's already doing damage control, and you got to coach, coach now, be in the moment, like Bill self says, Hey, I was thinking about next year while I'm preparing for the tournament this year with this year's team. Like to me, you can't do that to the kids, these kids who are playing now, and you're thinking about next year because you're thinking about the transfer portal. You should have somebody on your staff. That's their job right now. Your Bill self, coach shouldn't be worrying about any of that. Something gets to you, great, you can sign off on it. Hey, this player is contacted us. Great, let me follow up here after a game. No, but he said, we'll play it.

Marvin.

Here's Bill Self with total transparency of what was going on during the tournament.

For the last month, I've.

Been thinking about next season, to be honest, not in the moments during the game.

Uh.

You know, obviously we played. We had eight guys on scholarship and we play. I mean that were healthy there late and you know, injuries are part of the game, so that's not that's not an excuse. But but we could have done a much better job as a staff putting more guys out there that we could play. Uh, and so that's something that I've thought about for.

A long time.

And and when you don't have as much firepower, you know that that maybe you've had in past years. It certainly showed this year.

Okay, you can't recruit guys now to play for you. So when he says, oh, to get more guys out there healthy, like, what is he talking about?

You have your players, they got hurt.

You can't go into the transfer portal and say hey, Jimmy, you want to come and play for us in the tournament here and you've got a huge staff. You're not Dukine, you're not Oakland, you're Kansas. What are we talking about? Your bill self, your Hall of Fame coach. It just feels like there's excuses now he said, well, you can't use injuries while he uses injuries where he says we can't put a healthy team out there, and then he's gonna say, you know, staff should have done a better job at what recruiting kids who don't get hurt, Recruiting kids you can play for you, like you.

Can't have them play for you now.

Just it was weird strange that he would say, Hey, I was already thinking about next year. How'd you feel if you're playing for him this year and it's your last year playing there, Hey, coach, coach, Yeah.

More, well, now the transfer portal it's open right now, so he probably can't help but to think about next year because some guys are available to transfer.

Yeah, but you can't do anything about it in the moment of coaching. And he said, well, I wasn't thinking about it during a game. Okay, Well then you know, so why is that an issue you weren't thinking about during the game. You could think about it at other times. You have a staff who does that? Am I missing something here? You might be in the transfer portal? Okay, let's talk about Hey, coach, by the way, such and such reached out, all right, follow up with him, Tell him I'm, you know, coaching in the tournament here, and I'll and I'll talk to him. You set aside two hours on one day, like you're not missing practice?

Yuh?

All right?

Like then he said, you know his staff, you know we need to do a better job. Okay of what.

I mean?

You got you got transfers, hunter Dickinson, you got a transfer?

What maybe the transfer?

Uh?

When you got.

Him from Michigan. Okay, did that Did that hurt you that year? I don't know if he said, man uh, I didn't do a good job that year. We got Hunter Dickinson.

Yeah.

It almost feels like this is an older college football or basketball coach right a passage the past year. You either leave the sport or you complain about the status of the sport or both at the end of your season when it doesn't work out. It can't be me and it can't be us that didn't win the game. It has to be the change in the landscape caused me not to be able to do it like I used.

To do it.

Yeah, this Peske transfer portal. You know, without that, you know what they would have done better this year. Now, your focus isn't on your team. Your team was injured, plain and simple. They were injured. Still got a four set, yeah, seed, but it still might.

Be a real issue regardless of whether or not somebody got knocked out.

This is that.

I mean, Yukon's not going to complain about it because this is kind of how they're winning everything.

Yeah, but it's an issue when your players leave. He gets players that want to come to Kansas.

Now I'm too busy trying to steal all the right Now, how do I do with them?

Yeah?

If he's coaching at New Kane, and he said, it's really hard to focus on the tournament because I'm worried that I have kids who want to get in the transfer portal.

Now we have an issue.

I don't know if Bill self is saying, hey, you know we're gonna lose players. I got to keep these players. No players transfer to Kansas, That's not it. That's a good problem to have.

You're part of the transfer to Portal more so than the transfer.

Out portal transfer from Portal. All right, take a break. More phone calls coming up on this Monday. We're back after this Dan Patrick Show.

Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer and Mental Wealth podcast on the Ieart radio app, Apple podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

We were talking about Tom Pelbalsero. NFL Network said they're going to pass the no hip drop tackle, and once again we're if you're a defensive player trying to understand what you can and can't do, they are making it almost impossible. And I don't know if this factored in normally it does. You had Tyreek Hill, you had Mark Andrews, and you had Tony Pollard. They were all injured because of this kind of tackle. When you have notable players, marquee players that get hurt, then all of a sudden we change things. You know, when Tom Brady got hit by Pollard with Kansas City, they changed that, you know, going at going low at a quarterback and you know, knocked Brady out that year with knee surgery. The tush push, I guess, is going to stay, and I have no problem with it. It's basically that really is what football is it's I'm going to do something. Let me see if you can stop it. And if you can't, that's tough. Why don't you try? Has anybody tried to replicate this? I mean, Tom Brady certainly did extremely well with quarterback sneaks, but it wasn't you know too, it wasn't presented the way that the Eagles do it. And then Kelsey, Kelsey's replacement, he got a big job. Now you're replacing him, and then you have to be instrumental. You have to be the lead guy in the tush push. So they're going to change the kickoff keeping tush push, and they're getting rid of the hip drop tackle.

Yes, Paul.

According to a couple of different reporters, the competition committee was unanimous on dropping the hip drop tackle. JJ Watt has already responded. He said, quote, just fast forward to the belts with the flags on them.

Yeah.

No, defenders have to be frustrated though, absolutely. I mean, but okay, you have to understand what defenders used to be able to do. And they kind of put themselves in this position where they were going to take your head off across the middle. They were going to use their forearm when they would rush the passer, they were using their fore they would hit you in the head like they were using they had weapons, or using their arms, using their bodies as weapons. They were blowing people up. That was the expression, you got to blow somebody up. Well, then after a while, the NFL is paying a billion dollars in concussion lawsuit, and they're like, maybe we should make this a little safer, Maybe we should protect our biggest investments, the quarterbacks. And then all of a sudden it went crazy because now you can't land on the quarterback. Because you land on the quarterback, he's out with the broken collarbone. Now we lose one of our marquee players. I understand the business approach to this. You want to protect your biggest stars, and those are your quarterbacks, but some of your biggest stars are your defensive players as well, and you're taking away weapons from them as well. You know, they're concerned about scoring. They want to make sure that scoring continues to be on the rise, and they've done everything they can to try to make sure that that happens. But I think you've got to be careful that. You know, we're just going to look at this and go, oh, God, you can't do anything, you know. I don't like when JJ says, oh, you know, flag football, it's not okay, it's still a violent sport. But when you say that, I'll put put skirts on the quarterback, like, Okay, we don't need that. I just don't know if the NFL ever gets to giving a defensive player some kind of advantage, you know, can't touch them five yards down the field, Like there's just so many things they've taken away from them. And that's why if I'm a defensive back, I basically hold every single play. I'm going to force you to make the game of mockery. I thought Seattle did this the Legion of Boom. It's it's like, we're gonna be physical. Let me see how many flags you're gonna throw before it's gonna become comical. And it felt like the Legion of Boom was able to play differently than most teams.

Yeah, see this one.

I'm not usually a like a lot of times when something has banned a certain type of hit, I could see why.

Yeah, and I guess that there is a reason for this one.

However, Man, does it seem tough when you're just watching and You're like, how how exactly are you supposed to tackle somebody then? And how are you supposed to know exactly when to let go? Because I might tackle them now? The angle the angles changed, the you know what I mean, It's like, does this seem like a tough.

It's like you're going to slow down somebody to the turf because you got a hold on And I, okay, now what can I do? I can't hit you a high, I can't hitch a low the hip draw. I don't even know what I'm doing anymore. And it's so reactionary. I just can't imagine that I would just tackle at all right, fifteen yards, all right, you know, doing my best.

But I don't think that you can change.

You're taught a certain way, and this generation is taught a certain way.

Now, I know, Pete Carroll, I think.

Talked about, you know, Rugby's style of tackling, and we could get back to actually tackling because a lot of these players they just throw their body into you.

Yeah see, but I don't even know how you teach to not do this. I don't even know how you I get. I get, okay, don't aim for their head. So I hit here. You can't hit people in the head anymore. I get teaching. When you tackle somebody, don't land right on top of them with all your weight.

You have to roll. I get how you teach that.

I don't even understand how you teach this out of the game, Yeah, Paul.

Yeah.

If you're an average side defensive back and you're tackling like Rock back in the day, or Mark Andrews or George Kittle, and you wrap him and he's dragging you down the field, you cannot body slam him. That's a penalty. And if you lose your weight to try to just slow him down and drop him, you have to like pity, pat your feet and kind of hopefully your teammates help out.

Yeah.

That, like Seton said, it's hard to see how this is going to work.

Yeah, Marv, Yeah, we've seen this.

When offensive players lower their heads, the penalty is on the defensive player.

Like, wait, they lowered their head.

How often does the running back get called for lowering his head? But I think, I mean, there's a rule in place, but I don't know how often that's leading with the crown of your helmet. Running Backs do that all the time. It's called running with the football.

Yeah, pong, So I'm looking at it now. It's rarely called in games, but I found about ten instances this shar year where a player was fined after a game, like Ama Rossain Brown or different running backs for lowering their helmet and they've gotten fined, but the rest didn't call it in the game. And there is a rule for low year.

Yeah, by the way, so some of the rule changes that are going to happen. The JJ McCarthy love continues. Now it's going to die down a little bit because we have too much time between now and the draft.

But this happens. You have a flavor of the week.

Sometimes it's flavor of the month, and it feels like JJ McCarthy. And from what I was told, my source said, who was at the combine, said, you know, we want to see more because we didn't see more. Now do we hold it against you that your coach loved defense and running the football and didn't rely on you to throw the football and you're a winner? Okay, we still need to see what you can do. And then I asked him, I said, well, what did you make from his pro day? He goes pro days are silly. Pro days are for ESPN that they live for that they can talk about that, they can do that the whole day. But he said, you know, a pro day, you should be great, and he wasn't great at his There was nothing where you go, oh my gosh, he said, even Caleb Williams, Okay, you throw the ball seventy yards? How many times are you going to do that in the game? He said, what we're looking for is reaction time. How quick can you throw somebody open? Change the play, the defense changed. Now what do you do? Five seconds, four seconds, three seconds? Boom, hike it? Now what do you do? He goes, that's the position. It's not Hey, I get to run around for six seconds. I'm gonna throw it seventy yards. Wow, that's unbelievable. And then you realize, no, not really. You want to see something that happens. And the draft is going to be what April twenty fifth, So we got a lot of time here for somebody to go. You know, now they're really there's a debate with Drake may like a real debate of there are scouts now, according to my source, who are locked in that he's a top five don't pass him up. Washington should consider him at two, and then you'll get people scouts who go, he needs some he's gonna have to be a backup. He's gonna be a backup. Gonna take him a little time. Has has everything you need. You know, far more athletic than you think. Their problem is decision making, like in real time, like you know what you would expect. Can you throw somebody open? That's what the NFL is. And but JJ McCarthy, it feels like you're told that he's good and then you're going, okay, but I need to see that he's good.

No, no, he's good. He's a winner, yeah, Paul.

But weirdly, the thing that might be helping JJ McCarthy is that we haven't seen it and there's more to see, you know, that old thing like oh potential, there's more and we haven't seen it yet. If we draft him, we get to see all of it instead of we may have seen what it is.

It is.

It is interesting, though, and it's every year at this time that this happens. Every year, you know that we have that guy and you go, man, like Trey Lance, I don't know, man, did you see him? North Dakota state he was unbelievable. I said, yeah, one year, okay, and yes he was perfect that year, But do I need to see a little more, Like the sample size is a year, and just imagine the mistakes that would be made on a one year observation where you go, oh, I watched him for one year, he's unbelievable, and then you realize you.

Just need a little bit more.

I need to know when you when your team isn't good, when you make a mistake. Instead of man, that guy they win by three touchdowns, they're awesome. I want to see if you're a fighter, you come, what happens? You got embarrassed. That's when you find out, because that's what the NFL is. Every player gets humbled at some point. Now what do you do? And that's the fascinating part. Caleb's going number one. I don't think there's any debate there now that Washington has at least opened the door for a possible trade. They've at least opened the door. Now I don't know what it's going to take. And that means are you going up to get Drake may or you going up to get Jaden Daniels. But I'm told that JJ McCarthy could be a top five pick and I go wow, Okay, and Minnesota might be moving up to Arizona. Arizona's at four because Arizona doesn't need a quarterback. Arizona can get a wide receiver. But I don't have we had back to back to back to back quarterbacks. I don't think that's ever happened before that. Could we have the top four picks being quarterbacks. But if I'm New England, if I'm sold on Drake May or JJ McCarthy, great, If I'm not trade out, you need a whole lot more help. I just don't know if they're going to be able to After what happened with Mac Jones, You've got to make sure you get your guy, at least somebody that you feel like will last at their rookie deal with you. I mean, Mac Jones got all of these guys, you know, nobody stayed. They're all gone.

Here.

You wanted for a sixth pick, Zack Wilson's going door to door? Hey, Uh, yes, hi, I'm Zack Wilson. I'd like to play for your team. Oh you run home? Does your mom know year round?

No? No, I coached. I was the quarterback of the Jets.

No, nobody was the quarterback of the Jets the game permission to seek a trade. It's like, we can't trade you, we're giving you permission.

Yeah, well you know, I'm going to go look for a go ahead.

Where do you go?

He's gonna be playing with Johnny Manziel in the Indoor Football League. Did you see where they reached out to him?

Was it the Arena League? Really?

Yeah?

I think so. I think so comeback season.

Yeah, they're still still trying to milk that a little bit here. Way we got Johnny Manziel.

Yeah, there's never been four quarterbacks taken with the four picks, but just what three years ago, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance first three at the board, and Kyle Pitts went forth. Some people said that Atlanta should have used that on a quarterback because Matt Ryan was going at the time.

But who would they have taken?

It could have been Justin Fields. He was in that mix. Yeah, top Tennis. See, I'm still bullish on Justin Field. I am for some reason.

I don't know why.

I'm refusing to let it go because I didn't see great improvement but he's in a really good situation now. And if you're going to succeed, you'll succeed because you got stability, you got some weapons, you're in a great organization. Uh, you don't have to worry about, you know, coaching changes or anything like that. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's your starting quarterback by the end of the year.

Yes. I was just going to say, now, do you think there'll be a change of quarterback sometime this year?

Well, okay, a change at quarterback that's not related to an injury, yes, right, yes, not related to anything.

Okay, let's take a break. We'll come back and we'll go around the room.

We're so ahead of the game. I love march quarterback speculation.

Yes, let's awesome. Take a break. Last call for phone calls back after this.

Last call for phone calls, what we learn, what's in store tomorrow, this day and bar It's history Michael and fort Wayne. Hey, Mike, thanks for holding what's on your mind today?

Morning? Dan, thanks for taking my call. It talked a great deal about the transfer portal for men it's called basketball, and how that's the way the programs will be built from now on. And you cited Yukon is a case in point of that, and I would push back against that. Just a little insighte Purdue. They may not be the Cinderella story you're looking for, but they're definitely the best story of the tournament with their redemption tour. Matt Payner, who would be a great interview on your program, by the way, he only took one transfer last year, only took one this year, and with six players coming in next year, is most likely not taking one next year.

Okay, Oh, they may be the anomaly, but look at Connecticut because they're the defending national champs.

We're waiting for Purdue to actually.

Not you know, melt as. We've seen them in the previous couple of years. Here got a great coach. But there's certain teams who build it in a certain way. We've really been talking about Kentucky mostly because they go out and get like DJ Wagner, what did he do this year? Here's the number one recruit in America. Wasn't he yeah, he was up there. Yeah, but they got hold of these guys. That doesn't mean you can play. If I'm building my team, would I recruit, Yes, But would I look at the transfer portal?

Absolutely, because if I can get somebody.

Who has two years of experience, who's done it in the tournament, done it in a regular season. Maybe it's a smaller conference, but I've seen something as opposed to what you do in high school, I've seen you do it, you know, against men in college, and I would certainly I would take advantage of the transfer portal absolutely. All Right, before the break, I brought up that I'm still bullish on Justin Fields and I could see him starting by the end of the year. Now I'm saying starting in Pittsburgh. And it's not injury related. Anybody think Justin Fields is a starting quarterback. Not something where Russell gets hurt. This is just performance based or lack thereof, Todd.

I can see that happening.

Seton I performance based Yep. Oh, good grief, you know, got admit I hate I'm trying real hard to say.

No, but I have to say yes.

Marvin, yes, PAULI, Yes, I'm gonna be specific week fifteen once they're eliminated from the playoffs a Steelers. If the if the Steelers are eliminated for the playoffs, which usually won't happen till December, then they have nothing else to do but put justin fields in Okay week fifteen.

Yeah, I think he's in there at some point the voice of the tournament taken over for Jim nanha Iron Eagle or Ian Eigel.

What join is coming up on the show tomorrow.

By the way, we brought it up a couple of weeks ago, I said, the NBA has got to look at the players in the United from the United States against the international players, and that's what the commissioners thinking are doing.

It's last gasp here.

If you want to have that the All Star Game have a little more meaning, then this might be.

There's a little more pride involved in this. I don't know if it solves.

It, but at least the commissioner is considering that, and I think it could be fun.

But I don't know if it changed.

Like I don't go to watch the All Star Game where I go, Man, I hope they're playing hard, like I would hope that you're doing something. If they think that's entertainment. They are wrong, tragically wrong, because it's not it's not fun. It's like a layup line. I need to see something where you see matchups that you know would be fun. But I don't know if you're going to get that ever again. This day in sports history, Pauline.

Just got a couple for you. I have nineteen eighty two. Wayne Gretzky, He's always on this became the first player in NHL history to score two hundred points in a season with time remaining by the way. Nineteen ninety five, boxer Mike Tyson was released from jail after serving three years in prison and nineteen ninety seven painful around here. The Hertford Whalers announced they would move from Connecticut following the ninety seven season and became the Carolina Hurricane.

Dun du d d d dun dum.

We do like teams named after weather, though, dun dun du du du duh. Let's see siebes in Pennsylvania, HIC seebs, thank you.

EP, and good morning to the dan Ems morning. Best of the week. A sport that flies under the radar, penn State Wrestling and a true dynasty. They won the eleven of the last thirteen championship. This year they had four first, two second and a third and a team record point scored of utter and seventy two. The worst of the week, March Mattness says, like you mentioned before, it hasn't been thrilling except for last night's Houston A and M game.

Yeah, but I'm looking at the point spreads of these games coming up later on the week, and uh, I mean, you got a potential for a couple of blowouts there, but it looks like everything's around five points or last.

Maybe we'll get some really tight games.

I watched a little bit of the wrestling and there was a wrestler who got caught in some kind of hold that is like he was he looked like a spatch cock chicken.

I don't know what the move is called.

Was he like twisted over his body over his own head kind of a little bit like he's being pinned.

He wasn't being pinned, he was just stuck there. And I don't know what it's called, but man, did it look painful.

Legs back behind, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's one.

On his head.

They called a double You do a double chicken wing and you walk it around and you kind of twist him apart.

Not that I think it was one word, like a travase er. Yeah, yeah, yeah, something like that. Is like they got him and the guy was just he couldn't move somehow.

His like arms were forward, his head was up, and his legs were behind his back.

Yeah.

The other way it was like, oh my god, yeah yeah, uh, Todd, would you learn today.

The Washington Post who took out a president likely not intimidated by a potential Kim Moulky defamation.

Loss seat, no counter and now not only having almost matter, I have an alma mater.

Yeah, let's go, Marvin. Would you learn.

Happy Gilmore too? Electric Buggoloo coming soon.

Man, we'll see Pauline.

You gotta find this wrestling term.

Have a great day, everybody. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
