If you've looked for a true crime documentary to watch on any number of streaming services over the past few years, you've probably encountered the Murdaugh case. A complex story of murder that played out in documentaries, the podcasts, or a drama miniseries. 

This week, the story got a new chapter nobody saw coming. The South Carolina Supreme Court overturned disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh’s double murder convictions and life sentence, ordering a new trial in the killings of his wife and son.
