And today’s good news! A recent survey has confirmed the population of wild tigers in Nepal has grown significantly in the last 16 years, up to 429 from 121 in 2010.

Headlines: Japanese earthquake death toll rises  

Today's headlines include: 
Inflation is increasing at the slowest rate since February, according to new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Officials have confirmed the deadly H5 bird flu strain has reached a fourth state, after a migratory seabird washed ashore north of Brisbane.
At least 13 people are dead after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s southern island of Kyushu.
And today’s good news: Australian sprinters Lachie Kennedy and Torrie Lewis both broke 100m national records with medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow overnight.

Jacinta Allan has resigned as Victorian Premier four months out from an election, after her Deputy Premier Ben Carroll announced a leadership challenge on Monday. Allan, who initially vowed to fight for her position, stood down on Tuesday, saying a lengthy leadership battle this close to the election would leave the state “in a position of uncertainty”.
