Nothing gets the D.L. Hughley Show fired up like a little controversy, and this episode had plenty of it. The crew took aim at the growing backlash surrounding Converse after the sneaker giant pulled and apologized for an ad featuring K-pop star Karina that critics said evoked Ku Klux Klan imagery and historical lynching symbolism, sparking outrage across social media and calls for accountability. D.L. and the team also weighed in on Shaquille O’Neal accepting an honorary FBI badge from FBI Director Kash Patel, questioning why beloved Black celebrities continue to lend their credibility to controversial political figures. Adding to the conversation, comedian Tony Rock stopped by for a candid discussion about modern comedy, cancel culture, political commentary on stage, and growing audience sensitivity, while also sharing hilarious stories about life in the Rock family. The show also featured another round of fan-favorite One Voyage Jeopardy with Jamal Kingsley, helping build excitement for the upcoming One Voyage Cruise.

The conversation turned more serious when the team discussed reports that 28-year-old Venezuelan DoorDash driver Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was shot by an ICE officer in Austin during an immigration enforcement encounter. The incident has drawn national attention, with local leaders and advocates calling for a full independent investigation as conflicting accounts continue to emerge about what happened before the shooting. Along with updates from Sybil Wilkes on legal challenges involving White House press access and other national headlines, D.L. continued his trademark mix of sharp political commentary, social criticism, comedy, and cultural analysis, delivering an episode that balanced laughs with tough conversations about race, power, accountability, and the stories dominating the national spotlight.
