Researchers at Northwestern University have developed the world’s smallest pacemaker—small enough to be injected with a syringe and powered by light from a wearable chest patch. Designed to dissolve inside the body once it’s no longer needed, the device could be a game‑changer for newborns with congenital heart defects who only need temporary pacing after surgery, cutting down on risky procedures and repeat operations.
