D.L. Hughley and the crew respond to actor Da’Vinchi’s appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday, where he criticized Americans as overly dependent and “incompetent” while discussing work ethic, parenting, and why overseas actors land U.S. roles; Newton pushed back that convenience and efficiency are not the same as laziness, and Da’Vinchi later acknowledged that his sweeping statement should have been more specific. The show rejects the broader framing—especially any suggestion that Black Americans should simply move past slavery—arguing that the institution’s legacy and the systems built from it still shape American life.
