Jeremy Cordeaux is in the garage with Pete and Gary, and the mood is grim on the numbers that matter to ordinary families. Housing affordability has hit a record low, and Jeremy argues it is the direct result of policy choices rather than bad luck, with a generation now locked out of a market their parents could take for granted.
He turns to the $600 million being handed to consultants whose job, as he sees it, is to find new ways to tax us, and asks why a government that cannot fix the problems in front of it keeps paying outsiders to dream up fresh ones. It is money spent looking for revenue, he says, not money spent fixing anything.
Then the Lawn Hill deal nobody approved, a hand-back Jeremy says was done without the public ever being asked, and his wider point about decisions made over the heads of the people who have to live with them. All that, the calls, and his usual look back at this day in history.
