The location for the State of Origin opener has been thrown into disarray after Victoria went into what's being called a 'circuit breaker' lockdown.

The decision has seen numerous 'plan B' venues thrown into the ring with Townsville being a possibility.

Queensland legend Johnathan Thurston joins the Continuous Call Team saying hosting State of Origin would bring great change for the region.

"That's what the stadium was brought to Townsville to do, (it) was to bring world-class events to Townsville and the North."
