EXCLUSIVE: Taine Woodford’s inspirational footy comeback after overcoming cancer

View descriptionShare

Rabbitohs Jersey Flegg second-rower Taine Woodford has spoken about his remarkable redemption story ahead of his rugby league return match this weekend.

In October last year, the 21-year-old was diagnosed with cancer after doctors found a 12 centimetre tumor between his lungs and heart.

But after undergoing chemotherapy and recovering earlier this year, Woodford was given the green light to return to rugby league.

This weekend, Woodford will suit up for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Jersey Flegg NSW rugby league competition after spending time out of the game due to his illness.

“It’s really exciting because the whole process going in and out of hospital has been tough for me and my family” Woodford said.

“I was pretty touch and go for a while there, I think the doctors got annoyed with me asking the tough questions about life getting back to normal.”

“But it’s really satisfying to get back on the field.”
