STORY 1: Warming center opens in Conyers
Rockdale County and Conyers First United Methodist Church have opened a warming center at 921 Main St., Conyers, to provide shelter for those in need. The center will be open today, Dec. 5, and Friday, Dec. 6, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.
STORY 2: Madison Man Injured In Fatal Wreck
A fatal accident in Oconee County on Nov. 29 left 19-year-old Jackson Dodgen from Brunswick dead and 35-year-old Joshua Herrington of Madison seriously injured. Herrington's F150 allegedly crossed the centerline and struck Dodgen's Honda Accord head-on along Ga. 24 near Thomas Farm Road. Dodgen, a University of Georgia student and Glynn Academy graduate, was pronounced dead at the scene. Herrington was hospitalized with serious injuries. The Georgia State Patrol and its Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.
STORY 3: Rockdale officials to be installed; county to have first all-female Board of Commissioners
Rockdale County's group installation ceremony will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. at the Rockdale County Auditorium. Newly-elected officials, including Chairwoman-elect JaNice Van Ness and Post 1 Commissioner-elect Tuwanya Smith, will join Post 2 Commissioner Doreen Williams to form the county’s first all-female Board of Commissioners. Newly-elected Superior Court Judge Maureen Wood will also take her oath, succeeding retiring Chief Judge Robert Mumford. Six re-elected officials, alongside two recently appointed judges, Vasco T. McRae and Tim McGuire, will also be recognized. Oaths will be administered by Judge Mumford.

STORY 4: Cultural Center To Host Annual Community Holiday Concert
The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center is hosting its annual free Community Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 15, at 3 p.m. in the historic theatre at 434 South Main Street, Madison. The event will feature a mix of song and dance performances by talented local community members, including musicians, dancers, and church groups. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance with a limit of six per person. Guests are encouraged to bring canned goods for the center’s food drive benefiting the Caring Place in Madison. STORY 5: Indian Springs State Park plans December full of outdoor education
Indian Springs State Park has a variety of events planned for December. Highlights include a tree identification hike on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 14, activities include a pine cone ornament crafting session (11 a.m.-noon), a history walk (3:30-4:30 p.m.), and Black Lights and Bugs (6:30-7:30 p.m., $5 per person, pre-registration required). A salamander nature journaling class is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. ($5 fee for the journal). Friday, Dec. 20, features a Christmas campfire from 6-7 p.m., while Saturday, Dec. 21, offers a salamander stroll (11 a.m.-noon) and an insect collection class (3:30-4:30 p.m.). A $5 daily park pass or annual pass is required for all activities.
