STORY 2: Taylor Moody Named Newton County Schools 2025 Teacher of the Year
Taylor Moody, a literature teacher at Newton College & Career Academy, has been named Newton County Schools' 2025 Teacher of the Year. She will represent the district in the Georgia Teacher of the Year Program. Moody received a $1,000 cash award, a crystal vase, and a three-month car rental. Runners-up Brian Coates and Heather Wood also received crystal vases. Moody, who began teaching in 2020, is recognized for her dedication and passion. The program is supported by community sponsors, and Moody is praised for her inspiring commitment to education.
STORY 3: Bulldog Football Game Against Westside Macon Rescheduled For Saturday
The Morgan County High School Bulldogs' game against Westside Macon has been rescheduled due to expected stormy weather from Hurricane Helene. Originally set for tonight at 7 p.m., the game will now take place on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Ed Defore Sports Complex in Macon, Georgia. This will be the Bulldogs' first region contest of the season.

STORY 4: Toy gun leads to charges against Newton High School student
A 16-year-old student at Newton County High School was arrested for bringing a toy gun to school, which another student mistook for a real weapon and reported. The school went into lockdown during the investigation. The student faces charges of disorderly conduct and disrupting school operations. He was released to his parents' custody at the scene.
STORY 5: Soaring Heights to celebrate ribbon cutting Oct. 3
Soaring Heights Communities Inc. will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 3 for its new inclusive housing model in Conyers, offering independent living for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and affordable housing for teachers and first responders. This public-private partnership aims to foster community integration and address housing needs for IDD individuals and the workforce. Located on the Lighthouse Village campus, the development includes three apartment buildings and a community center. The initiative is seen as a model for replication across Georgia and beyond, addressing critical housing needs in the community.
