Story 1:   Farmview Rings In Christmas Season With Holiday Market 

The Annual Holiday Market at Farmview returned last Saturday, offering a festive day for families. Shoppers explored an outdoor market with local vendors selling candles, ornaments, crafts, jewelry, clothing, and treats. The event featured live holiday music, activities for families and children, and a visit from Santa Claus. Farmview Market, located at 2610 Eatonton Road in Madison, will continue offering holiday specials throughout the month. 

Story 2:  Cherokee Film Summit Expands to Reach All of Metro Atlanta 

The Cherokee Film Summit is expanding into the Metro Atlanta Film Summit, set for March 14, 2025, at the YANMAR EVO//Center in Cherokee. Organized by the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED), this expansion aims to enhance collaboration across metro Atlanta's film industry. Since its inception, the Cherokee Film Summit has hosted over 100 speakers and 1,500 attendees, fostering a robust local film sector. The new summit will feature networking, workshops, and exclusive roundtable sessions, culminating in keynote presentations. Story 3:   Holiday Tradition: Anthony Rodriguez reprises role in Aurora Theatre's 'A Christmas Carol' 

Anthony Rodriguez has performed "A Christmas Carol" at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville for 18 years, with each show offering a unique experience due to its interactive elements. The production, adapted by Rodriguez and Tony Brown, mimics a salon setting to engage audiences, especially younger viewers. Directed by Katie Erin Chambers, the show runs from Dec. 6 to Dec. 22 at the Lawrenceville Arts Center. Audience participation has become a staple, enhancing the immersive experience with special seating. Story 4:  Covington Ascend facility proposes to boost U.S. lithium carbonate production by 60% 

Ascend Elements, a lithium-battery recycling company, announced plans to produce lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) from used lithium-ion batteries at its Covington facility starting in 2025, aiming for up to 3,000 metric tons annually. This marks the first new domestic source of Li2CO3 in the U.S. in the 21st century, complementing a Nevada mining operation. The company's innovative process significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to traditional methods, producing 2.27 kg of CO2 per 1 kg of Li2CO3. The Covington facility, operational since 2022, is one of North America's largest battery recycling plants, capable of recycling 30,000 metric tons of materials annually. 

Story 5:  Georgia Voters Show Strong Confidence in 2024 Elections 

A poll of 1,541 Georgia voters post-election revealed high confidence in the voting process, with 98% reporting no issues and 98.5% feeling safe while voting. Poll workers received high praise from 98.3% of respondents. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger highlighted the secure and accessible nature of Georgia elections. The survey showed 96.2% had a positive voting experience, and 93.9% found it easy to vote, with 81% experiencing wait times under 10 minutes. Early in-person voting was popular, with 78% voting early. Partisan differences emerged, with 33.9% of Democrats and 59% of Republicans expressing high confidence in vote counting.

Story 6:   PEACH PASS Upcoming Transition is Being Rescheduled 

The State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) has rescheduled the Peach Pass data migration initially set for Dec. 12-16, allowing customers continued access to their accounts during the holiday season. This delay ensures minimal disruption for Georgia Express Lanes commuters and Peach Pass Plus Parking users. Customers can still use the current mypeachpass.com site, Peach Pass GO! 2.0 app, and Peach Pass Plus Parking. Toll violations will be processed after the new system launch. The new Peach Pass Verify app, enabling toll-free rides for vehicles with three or more passengers, is already available and well-received. For updates, visit peachpass.com/systemupgrade. 

Story 7:  Holiday Tour of Homes Ushers In The Christmas Season For Madison 

Over the weekend, thousands of tourists explored Madison's Historic District during the Annual Holiday Tour of Homes, featuring historic homes adorned with festive decorations. Organized by the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center (MMCC), the event included daytime and evening candlelight tours, raising about $100,000 from nearly 3,500 ticket sales to support the center's operations. The tour showcased nine private historic homes, along with churches and museums. David Nunn, MMCC's managing director, praised the event's success and credited co-chairs Jennifer Lockridge, Angie Fetch, and Kathryn Cardwell for their efforts. Homeowners generously opened their homes to benefit the community and the cultural center.
