STORY 1:  Drama Dogs Win Third At State Competition

The Morgan County High School Drama Dogs secured third place at the state competition with their One Act performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Directed by Dr. Lenae Rose, the team included All-Star cast members Sora Rose and Aaron Cooper. The musical comedy, featuring quirky characters in a spelling bee, previously won the regional competition, where Sora Rose and Crayman Burke were recognized as All Star Cast, and Aaron Cooper was named Best Actor. Dr. Rose praised the students' hard work and well-deserved recognition.

STORY 2:      Covington Approves Cell Tower Permit

The Covington City Council approved a Special Use Permit for T-Mobile and VB BTS II LLC to erect a telecommunications tower off Bob Williams Parkway, aiming to enhance cell phone coverage. The 195-foot mono-pole tower, located near Interstate 20 in the Airport Hazard Overlay Zone, exceeds the usual 150-foot height limit but received FAA approval. Jattaniah S. Jahn, representing VB BTS II, confirmed the tower will provide 4G coverage from Alcovy Road to downtown Covington and allow co-location for other providers. The Planning Commission had recommended approval, and the City Council unanimously agreed on November 18.

STORY 3:  Terry McRae Appointed to Rockdale State Court Bench

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced several judicial appointments, including Vasco “Terry” McRae to the Rockdale State Court, filling a vacancy left by Judge Clarence Cuthpert's resignation. McRae, an assistant solicitor general in Gwinnett County and a retired U.S. Army major, has a distinguished military and legal career. He has also served as a Magistrate Court judge and has extensive experience in corporate leadership and youth sports coaching. Other appointments include Ralph W. Powell to the Tifton Judicial Circuit, Amy E. Smith to the Houston Judicial Circuit, and Sarah Stimac Japour as district attorney for the West Georgia Judicial Circuit.

STORY 4:  DEJA VU: Another Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Gwinnett

Gwinnett County has recently seen a streak of Powerball success, with another winning ticket worth $2 million sold at a Shell station in Lawrenceville for the November 16 drawing. This follows a $478.2 million jackpot win on October 23, where the ticket was sold at a Quick Mart in Buford and shared by two anonymous winners, marking the largest prize in Georgia Lottery history. The latest winner, who matched all five white-ball numbers with the Power Play option, has claimed their prize, but their identity remains undisclosed. Powerball drawings occur thrice weekly.

STORY 5:    Congressman Johnson Honors Local Community Members as Unsung Heroes

Congressman Hank Johnson hosted the Sixth Annual Unsung Heroes Awards on November 17, honoring 15 individuals from Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District for their community contributions. Held at Legacy Park in Decatur, the event celebrated honorees from DeKalb, Rockdale, and Newton counties for their generosity, leadership, and resilience. Categories included Diamond of the District, Pillar of Power, Community Cornerstone, Beacon of Light, and Champion of the 4th. The awards recognized efforts in education, faith-based and civic support, youth mentoring, and advocacy for veterans and underserved communities. The event was livestreamed on social media platforms.
