The owners of the Cross and Caribou gold mine in the mountains west of Boulder have warned town officials in the nearby town of Nederland to stop criticizing the company, after water quality inspectors found the mine leaking heavy metals into a mountain stream. The company’s complaints center on a poster going up around Boulder County accusing the mine of poisoning the watershed, but town officials say they had nothing to do with it.
